I was going to answer your question at 1:07 but then I just decided to be a tool and list them all out for you. 😁 A couple took some close looking or listening and a little bit of Googling but I mostly got there. 1. Nazem Kadri, then of the Toronto Maple Leafs, now with the Calgary Flames 2. Evgeny Kuznetsov of the Washington Capitals 3. Pavel Datsyuk (prounounced DAT-suk or DAHT-sook, then of the Detroit Red Wings, now retired 4. Jonathan Toews (pronounced TAYZ) of the Chicago Blackhawks 5. Alexander (or Alex) Ovechkin, Ovi, of the Washington Capitals 6. Taylor Hall, then of the Edmonton Oilers, now with the Boston Bruins 7. I'm having trouble figuring out the players team (they're playing at the Flyers, I know that!) or the number of the player. Number might start with a 3? Someone else might need to help me with this one. 8. Jason Spezza (pronounced SPET-zuh, like pizza), then of the Ottawa Senators, now retired 9. Ovi again 10. Zdeno Chára, then of the Boston Bruins, now retired. As the announcer said, all of 6 feet 9 inches and still able to play a nimble defense, hit pinpoint slap shots from the blue line, and occasionally score goals like that. Total cheat code for those 2010s Bruins. 11. Spezza again 12. Blake Wheeler, then of the Boston Bruins, now with the Winnipeg Jets 13. Andreas Athanasiou (don't ask me how to pronounce it here; I can kinda mimic what I hear the broadcasters usually say but I wouldn't know how to type it out), then of the Detroit Red Wings, now with the Chicago Blackhawks 14. Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins 15. Vladimir Tarasenko, then of the St. Louis Blues, now with the New York Rangers, who he scored on here ironically enough 16. Nathan (or Nate) MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche playing here with a team of North American under-24s in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. The WCH is an odd tournament which is sanctioned by the NHL and not the International Ice Hockey Federation who puts on the Olympic hockey tournaments and has its own world championships (although big NHL stars don't always participate in that). The WCH has only been put on a few times and this last time in 2016, it included senior teams from the US and Canada, this age group North America team from both US and Canada, all-age teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, and Sweden (seen here), and a Team Europe with players from all other European nations not already represented. 17. Ovi again 18. Datsyuk again 19. Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers 20. Probably Datsyuk again but based on the graininess of the footage, could be Slava Kozlov (they had the same numbers but Kozlov left Detroit and then Datsyuk took it over) 21. Mario Lemieux (pronounced Luh-MYOO) then of the Pittsburgh Penguins, now long retired. Super Mario, one of the greats, definitely worth a further watch. 22. Ovi again 23. Sydney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins 24. Jordan Eberle (pronounced EBB-er-lee) 25. MacKinnon again, now actually playing for the Avalanche 26. Peter Forsberg, then of the Colorado Avalanche, now retired 27. Benoît Pouliot (pronounced POOL-ee-ott) then of the Boston Bruins, now retired 28. Rick Nash, then of the Columbus Blue Jackets, now retired 29. Denis Savard, then of the Chicago Blackhawaks, now long since retired 30. Matt Duchene, then of the Colorado Avalanche, now with the Nashville Predators 31. Too quick and grainy. Can't even tell who he plays for or who they were playing against. Someone's going to have to know this specific play or have seen it in a better highlight somewhere. 32. Pavel Bure (pronounced BOOR-AY), then of the Vancouver Canucks, now long since retired 33. Lemieux again 34. Johan Franzén, then of the Red Wings, now retired 35. Patrick Kane, then of the Chicago Blackhawks, most recently with the New York Rangers but is currently a free agent 36. Steve Yzerman, then of the Detroit Red Wings, long since retired 37. Datsyuk or Kozlov again 38. Bobby Ryan, then of the Anaheim Ducks, now retired 39. Thomas Vanek, then of the Minnesota Wild, now retired 40. Ilya Kovalchuk, then of the New Jersey Devils, now retired 41. Too fast, can't make anything out 42. Definitely Datsyuk this time
Kind of figured this would be a Pavel Datsyuk highlight reel. I think I counted 6 or 7 of his in there. Along with one of the Red Wings general manager.
The man at 1:16 is Jonathan Toews. One of the best players in the league the last two decades. Three time champion and captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. He was named to the NHL''s Top 100 players of all time list, however he might be retiring this summer.
I cant think of a moment but everyone agrees, pavel datsyuk was the goat when it comes to dangles. "datsyukian-Deke" is a modern phrase based on his skill used by announcers all the time
Your question about the greatest piece of skill ever performed is a tough one because of that video arguably has all of them. The one where Alex Ovechkin is scoring on his back (1:25) is a classic, in part because it was early in his legendary career, and the coach of the opposing team happened to be the guy who owns the career goal record he is now chasing, Wayne Gretzky. I think Gretzky called it the greatest goal he's ever seen. I have a suggestion for you. Since the beginning of the millennium, before Connor McDavid started to dominate, there were five players who were in a class of their own: the aforementioned Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and 2 goalies, Henrik Lundqvist and Carey Price. Lundqvist is retired and Price should follow him soon because of a knee injury that won't heal. I recommend checking out highlights of any of these players, but I have a soft spot for Price, who did amazing things but was in the wrong organization at the wrong time, and couldn't win because of it. Here's a good video to react to: th-cam.com/video/b01JiScRl7U/w-d-xo.html
I love the fact two brits are acknowledging the sport of hockey and oh hard it is not just to play the game but to also have the skills to pull off moves going as quick as the do
Pavel Datsyuk was nicknamed “Magic Hands” for his incredible ability to dangle the puck against some of the best players and goalies in the game of hockey. There is a video just dedicated to “Magic Hands” Pavel Datsyuk.
The greatest skill in NHL question is difficult, but this video had my personally favorite. Its known as "The Goal", performed by Alex Ovechkin (#8 on the Washington Capitals) I believe in his rookie year. He makes an amazing dangle, falls on his back, and still manages to score. The opposing teams coach was the legend Wayne Gretzky who said it was the best goal he's ever seen.
Jonathan Toews was the guy you paused the video for, incredible player. If you want to see the filthiest puck handler you’ll want to watch Pavel Datsyuk!
When you see a video full of these plays it's great, but it takes away from the moment, because they really stand out in the middle of a game where it surprises and amazes you. .o
Honestly, this is the best part of hockey. Not the hits - though they are awesome to see. Not the fights. The dangles, and the saves are what make hockey so friggin' special. The skill level today is just absolutely insane, and getting better every year. I do love the Rick Nash (Columbus #61) goal that was in this video, and I love the Nazem Kadri rush too (Toronto #43). Watching players take the puck to the net, while the defenders do everything to keep them from it, is so satisfying - whether it results in a goal or not.
I agree. I've been watching hockey for 70+ yrs and the skill levels & creativity are insane now. But it's the speed + skill that really gets me. Some guys can do the skill, some the speed but the best of the best have both. McDavid has that like no one I can recall.
There's an awesome, short, video of Patrick Kane stick handling through pucks... and on the same pop up is a video of Kane using a go pro so you can see what he sees and exactly how his hands and stick work from the closest angle you'll ever see...
The Bobby Ryan one will always stand out to me because 1 I'm a Die-Hard Ducks fan but 2 it was the only one in the vid I watched live and it was amazing to finally see one happen live in the moment.
1:08 "Who was this?" ...That was Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007/2008... Soon thereafter he became their Captain, led them to Stanley Cup victories in 2010, 2013 and 2015 and afaik is still their Captain today, though dunno yet if he will return for next season. He was named one of the '100 greatest players ever' in 2017, when the NHL celebrated its 100th year.
Yes, fellas! The rough stuff often brings new fans to the game but they stay for the skill. It's unbelievable doing this at high speeds while using a different form of transportation than just your shoes. Best saves or best shootout goals would be great reactions. As for Damo's question about best skill play, it's probably something Connor McDavid has done, that guy's absolutely unreal. You'll see some contenders for that on a best of Connor McDavid vid.
I really enjoy when the guy just keeps the puck in the attacking zone. Remember all the offsides rules you guys learned, and how if it goes over the blue line it’s an issue. So when they can barely keep it from going back over the line, it just adds a whole different thing.
Datsyuk, Patrick Kane, mcdavid, Mathew’s and ovechikin are probably a couple players i would check out if you want to get an idea of modern hockey and skill.
I think the greatest piece of skill, at least that I've seen, is the Alex Ovechkin goal on his back. It's early on in this video but you should check out a better look at it. As far as someone who is consistently a magician with the puck, check out Pavel Datsyuk at some point!
Funny that most of these were by Pavel Datsyuk lol. I remember watching his breakaway goal against Marty Turco live I was so blown away by it. I've never seen a deke like that before. The best camera angle of it too is the ice level one facing Turco directly; it's a better view of Datsyuk's sudden sharp break to the right and really shows just how fooled Turco was. Greatest piece of skill ever performed by a hockey player? I'm not sure exactly what you mean but I heard a story that Todd Bertuzzi was strong enough to puck handle with one hand on his stick without getting tired. It was pretty common for him to shield people from the puck with his body and one arm while controlling the puck effortlessly with his other arm on the stick. He used to be really good at puck control because of that. I'm not sure how common that skill is for big men because I don't really look for it. Usually players have both hands on the stick.
Thank you. I was watching the NHL and the announcer said “dangly doo” I was very high and kept dangling a rope in front of my pitbull saying “oh what a dangly doo”. 20 years ago you would have gotten something completely different if you looked up “best hockey dangles”. 😂
A dangle can be a deke, but not necessarily. A deke implies changing the puck between forehand/backhand, while a toe-drag dangle generally keeps the puck on the same hand. They all do get misused, though, which further increases confusion. Like when an NFL announcer calls a jet sweep a reverse, for example.
Blackhawks fan, but Pavel Datysuk was fun to watch and I'm pretty sure he has done the best move ever. Only problem is deciding which one was his best.
These guys are incredible. They’re not just great athletes. They’re acrobats. I still don’t know much about this game, but it’s apparent how much skill it takes to play at this level.
For the greatest piece of skill ever performed question, I’d say maybe McDavids goal against the rangers or when he burned Morgan Reilly. Or any Datsyuk highlight
Loving your NHL videos and your recent playoff highlights run! As so many have already said, Pavel Datsyuk is a must! Ovechkin, Crosby, MacKinnon, Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard highlights just from the World Juniors this year are all amazing!
The goal of Ovechkin falling on his back after the deke and one-handing it in the goal is called "The Goal" and what made it better was he was versus Wayne Gretzky's team he was coaching at the time (Phoenix Coyotes). IMO not the best/most skilled goal but iconic. I can't pick because that question is so subjective to personal preference lol. My favorite is always Bobby Ryan versus 2 guys where one loses their stick @5:37
Definitely check Pavel Datsyuk out, he's probably in 40% of this video's clips. He made top NHL players look like amateurs on a weekly basis. One of red wings', russia's and the NHL's most skilled stick handlers, ever.
4:10 such a good point. There are so so many beautiful dangles that don’t get shown because they don’t lead to goals. As far as the most skilled moment, it has to be The Goal by Ovechkin when he rolled over his back to score without looking
I’m not sure if a video has been made on it yet or not but a video on the florida panthers playoff run this year was pretty incredible. Also the Las Vegas knights run a few years back was extraordinary because they literally just got made a new team.
Nice video, keep it up with the good work ! I think it's time to give some love to our goalies. Best saves in hockey !! Or reactions to some of the bests. I suggest Carey price, Henrik lundqvist, Andreï Vasilevsky or M-A Fleury.
NFL is my number one but NHL is definitely number two. Go to some games live when a rival comes to your city, the atmosphere, the intensity, the hits and the fights. Multiply that by 10 when the playoffs begin.
Again, I just heard you ask basically what was the greatest player of all time in hockey. Nobody could put it to just one play, but again, you really wanna watch somebody who can handle the pot. It’s Pavel Datsyuk. Thanks again for everything.
Greatest piece of skill is either “The Goal” by Alex Ovechkin (in this video at 1:25) or McDavids 1v4 goal vs the rangers in the 2021-22 season, absolutely mind blowing goal
I feel like the McDavid Vs Rangers is slightly better. The Ovi goal was amazing, but to see McDavid skating the blue line, looking and deciding to take on the whole team alone, and succeeding, it's just madness.
Crosby and Ovetchkin were similar to Messi and Renaldo for many years. Both potentially considered the greatest. Currently it is Conner McDavid with Conner Bedard in line to be next. Conner Bedard was just drafted first overall in the NHL draft. You should review these players highlights.
Erik Karlsson in the 2017 playoffs. He had chunk of his ankle surgically removed right before the playoffs began. The thing that was impressive isn't that...but the fact he made one of the sweetest sauser passes I have ever seen. From his goal line like 20 feet in the air the puck dropped on the opponents blueline flat and right on the tape of Mark Stone who scored.
I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest skill, but the greatest even has to be the night Mario Lemieux scored a goal all 5 ways that you could score a goal in one game. It was the first and last time it happened in NHL history.
Guys, I’m lovin these NHL reactions. So you two have now seen a lot of what the NHL players have on offer. I know you give these players respect and acknowledgment. But my question for you is…. Are you guys going to be forever hockey fans going forward ? Or has all this just been a fun novelty to check out???!
If you want to get into one of the greatest players that's still playing (though at the tail end of his career), I'd suggest following Alex Ovechkin. He's the all-time leading power play scorer in history, and the #2 in goals all time (and hopefully will surpass Gretzky in the next 2 years). He's the captain of the Washington Capitals. He's got great hands, an amazing one-timer, he hits, he's energetic, and has lots of highlight videos about him (some of the goals in this video were Ovi's).
You should react to highlights of some of the recent greats in hockey. Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovetchkin, and Conner McDavid. Then Conner Bedard the 17 year old projected to be one of the future greats. Might be best to leave Conner McDavid for last otherwise it will make the others look slow.
Yeah a lot of people that dont follow hockey dont realize how insanely skilled it is. They just think fights and hits but its as skillful of a sport as any in the world. Hard to find a sport that needs more skill. Also that player was Jonathan Toews
There was a play performed by Ovechkin on the boards, where he received a pass then passed the puck to himself off the boards, did a spin move around the defender, and got his pass to himself back off the boards went in and scored. I'm sure it would be included in an Ovechkin highlight video
Might not be a popular opinion amongst the hockey community, but the Sedin twins were something to see. There's a play they made against the Flames on a goal against Mikka Kiprusoff that is some of the best hockey IQ I've seen. They were telepathic how they played off each other
At 4:25 you ask about a legendary goal, first one that came to mind was Rick Nash, the very next clip that you paused at was the goal 4:45. Nash just makes everyone look foolish! 😆😂
Some of the most skillful things to happen in hockey are tipped shots. It's incredible what players can do with their hand eye coordination to perfectly deflect a puck moving at 90mph, with their back turned to the net, to deflect it right into the smallest of openings, and there's guys that have made careers out of doing it so it's no fluke. I've seen some tipped shots i just can't believe..
Not sure I understood you. Did you say Ovechkin is Canadian? He's not. He's Russian and loves Putin. I lost all respect for him when he defended Putin in his war against Ukraine. He is a very skilled hockey player but if he's going to defend Putin his morals have left the building. Especially when he gets to watch uncensored news in North America.
Was certainly a typo, yes I know he’s Russian. Too bad it got political and not that I love or even like Putin but do you have a problem w LeBron James who likes China? Do you have a problem w any American player who likes America? Arguably the world’s biggest bully/ terrorist/ bomb dropping nation to ever exist? Relax w the politics and thank you for the correction! Not sure what my sentence is supposed to say other than that goal in my opinion is the best ever and that I think he’s the most Canadian styled player ever to come out of Russia. He’s not soft at all. Cheers
Greatest display of skill? That's hard to quantify. But here are some names to check out highlights of: Dominik Hašek || Pavel Datsyuk || Pavel Bure || Jaromír Jágr || Sidney Crosby || Patrick Kane || Alexander Ovechkin || Nathan MacKinnon || Connor McDavid Pretty sure you've reacted to several of these already, but all of these belong on a list of most skilled. Also worth checking out career highlights / deep dives of Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, & Bobby Orr.

I believe # 19 was Jonathan Toesws. Played for the Chicago Blackhawks. Loved the video!
It was definitely the Captain himself.
it was Toews during his rookie season, he's not particularly known for dekes and dangles either
@@SaltyFrosticles thanks for the confirmation.
Gonna have to react to "The Magic Man" Pavel Datsyuk. Easily one of the best danglers in the history of the NHL
I second this for sure. That guy was a magician.
The amount of decisions and moves you have to make on the fly as a hockey goal scorer has never ceased to blow my mind
I'm a Flyers fan but maaaaaaan, Pavel Datsyuk was just on another level!! 🔥🔥🔥
3:25 Mario Lemieux, if you haven't yet, he deserves video reation of your's
Oshie vs Russia, Ovechkin scoring from his back, Datsyuk's dekes
Nobody said dangles 20 years ago. It was a deke.
Yep, and deke > dangle.
I didn’t know it had changed. I still call it a deke.
Thank you. I was watching the NHL and the announcer said “dangly doo” I was very high and kept dangling a rope in front of my pitbull saying “oh what a dangly doo”. 20 years ago you would have gotten something completely different if you looked up “best hockey dangles”. 😂
@@bostons_departed3631😂😂😂😊
A dangle can be a deke, but not necessarily. A deke implies changing the puck between forehand/backhand, while a toe-drag dangle generally keeps the puck on the same hand.
They all do get misused, though, which further increases confusion. Like when an NFL announcer calls a jet sweep a reverse, for example.
As for the best dangle I have seen... Pavel Bure full speed puck to skate to stick score.
Just watching NHL best dangles. Honestly, if you want to see the best in the game, his name is Pavel Datsyuk. They call him the magic man.
Blackhawks fan, but Pavel Datysuk was fun to watch and I'm pretty sure he has done the best move ever. Only problem is deciding which one was his best.
Being a red wings fan, Pavel Datsyuk was unbelievable
These guys are incredible. They’re not just great athletes. They’re acrobats. I still don’t know much about this game, but it’s apparent how much skill it takes to play at this level.
Bobby Ryan's life story is crazier than the goal you really liked by him.
@1:02 that’s Jonathan Toews for the Blackhawks
Pavel Datsyuk highlights, won’t be disappointed
The goal of Ovechkin falling on his back after the deke and one-handing it in the goal is called "The Goal" and what made it better was he was versus Wayne Gretzky's team he was coaching at the time (Phoenix Coyotes). IMO not the best/most skilled goal but iconic. I can't pick because that question is so subjective to personal preference lol. My favorite is always Bobby Ryan versus 2 guys where one loses their stick @5:37
i was looking for this comment
The lack of Datsyuk clips in this video is disrespectful he can beat all 5 defenders and still score like he did against Nashville
One of them would Sittler scoring 10 points in one game with the leafs vs bruins
Definitely check Pavel Datsyuk out, he's probably in 40% of this video's clips. He made top NHL players look like amateurs on a weekly basis. One of red wings', russia's and the NHL's most skilled stick handlers, ever.
Im going to make a crazy claim Datsyuk is the Ronaldinho of Hockey
4:10 such a good point. There are so so many beautiful dangles that don’t get shown because they don’t lead to goals. As far as the most skilled moment, it has to be The Goal by Ovechkin when he rolled over his back to score without looking
I’m not sure if a video has been made on it yet or not but a video on the florida panthers playoff run this year was pretty incredible. Also the Las Vegas knights run a few years back was extraordinary because they literally just got made a new team.
Niklas kronwall hitting people and the announcer screaming "He just got Kronwalled" would be a fun video
Nice video, keep it up with the good work ! I think it's time to give some love to our goalies. Best saves in hockey !! Or reactions to some of the bests. I suggest Carey price, Henrik lundqvist, Andreï Vasilevsky or M-A Fleury.
As an american that has never watched hockey, that was incredible. I may need to tune into some hockey lmao
NFL is my number one but NHL is definitely number two. Go to some games live when a rival comes to your city, the atmosphere, the intensity, the hits and the fights. Multiply that by 10 when the playoffs begin.
@@StephenH1 I would definitely go to a game but my state doesn't have a NHL team, that's part of the reason I've never watched any hockey.
Datsyuk turns hockey into more than a sport but a beautiful work of art.
Pavel Datsyuk!!!!
Can't be the best of ALL time without a Bobby Orr highlight!
Or Pavel Bure...or Erik Karlsson...
I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest skill, but the greatest even has to be the night Mario Lemieux scored a goal all 5 ways that you could score a goal in one game. It was the first and last time it happened in NHL history.
That was December 31, 1988.
PAVEL DATSYUK
PAVEL DATSYUK
PAVEL DATSYUK
HES CALLED HOUDINI FOR A REASON.
1:15 Johnathan Toews, this was his first NHL goal. He then went onto winning 3 Stanley cups captaining the Chicago Blackhawks.
Connor McDavid
To end on Datsyuk is perfect. You guys should watch some of his best dangles. Also Alex Ovechkin best hits and goals video.
From the southwest, we played roller hockey on cement. These moves look so smooth.
"Like silk" - Damo said it right.
There was a play performed by Ovechkin on the boards, where he received a pass then passed the puck to himself off the boards, did a spin move around the defender, and got his pass to himself back off the boards went in and scored. I'm sure it would be included in an Ovechkin highlight video
Bobby Ryan’s famous goal with ducks and sens are sick
Mario Lemieux...5 goals 5 different ways.
Power play, short handed, penalty shot, 5 on 5 and empty net
This is a must-watch!
Two words. Alex Ovechkin.
Recently, the Lacrosse goal has been a unique skill.
Might not be a popular opinion amongst the hockey community, but the Sedin twins were something to see. There's a play they made against the Flames on a goal against Mikka Kiprusoff that is some of the best hockey IQ I've seen. They were telepathic how they played off each other
The video you paused on to ask which is the greatest skill ever , is actually my favorite goal of all time , The Rick Nash one
Lets not forget Mike Bossy and Bobby Orr scoring while in mid air!!!
At 4:25 you ask about a legendary goal, first one that came to mind was Rick Nash, the very next clip that you paused at was the goal 4:45. Nash just makes everyone look foolish! 😆😂
Jonathan Toews (Captain of the Chicago Blackhawcks) guy you asked about :)
Pavel Datsyuk, Patrick Kane and Connor Mcdavid arent Humain
Agree w the Ovechkin goal on his back, lifetime player, Canadian, insane goal.
Cheers
Saw one Pavel Bure dangle. Would have thought you'd see more from him.
Paul Karyia underrated goat
when you pull a nice move and don't score hockey players say "all swedish no finnish!" brilliant
There's also ultimate clutch play by Peter Forsberg. Olympic gold medal game. Shootout to win and he does what is hence called the Forsberg
0:56 Chicagoans can see that man clearly on any CCTV ! That’s the great JONATHAN TOEWS !!
So when I was younger, I don't hear it as much today, they used to say he has the puck on a string. You can see why
Datsyuk was a total masterclass in puck possession and puck protection. He was our Messi.
If it's number 8, It's Ovchekin.
Check out the top 30 calls in hockey history
Greatest display of skill? That's hard to quantify. But here are some names to check out highlights of:
Dominik Hašek || Pavel Datsyuk || Pavel Bure || Jaromír Jágr || Sidney Crosby || Patrick Kane || Alexander Ovechkin || Nathan MacKinnon || Connor McDavid
Pretty sure you've reacted to several of these already, but all of these belong on a list of most skilled.
Also worth checking out career highlights / deep dives of Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, & Bobby Orr.
There are so many amazing current NHL players..with wicked skills that never disappoint their fans! If I had to pick ONE player however, it would be..Detroit Red Wings #13 Pavel Datsyuk!!! hands down!! Nickname: "The magic man" During his 14 memorable years with the Wings..Datsyuk was I believe, the premier defensive forward in the league. His ability to..steal, control and skate the puck out of his own zone..PURE FINESSE!! Any video's on Datsyuk..will not disappoint guys! 🏒👍
The greatest skill ive ever seen is just McDavids highlights.
Other than McDavid the two other modern goats are Crosby and Ovechkin
Cheers from San Diego, lads!
Thanks Erik 🤝
