@@chewsir Yup the head gasket was the only argument I couldnt win when someone was bashing Subaru. Like the Ford dual clutch tranny on the Focus its something that should not have gone on for over a decade.
I am Canadian who owns a 2004 outback anniversary edition with 180,000 miles. Still in excellent condition. Biggest repair I did was alternator. Great car.
Ditto. The 4th gen Legacy was unusually good looking for a Subaru. Haven't been impressed with what's come since though...looking to replace my '07 Legacy 2.5i Limited with a Mazda 3 turbo AWD one of these days, but for now still going at 177k miles and burning through my second set of head gaskets!
That’s because these generation Subarus were designed by someone that designed cars for Porsche. Which anyone can agree Porsche designs attractive vehicles.
the 3.0 was bored and the connecting rods changed for to the offset ones for longer stroke to get to 3.6, most other changes between 3.0 and 3.6 are minor. Those offset connecting rods show up again in the FA/FB H4 motors.
I had a 2009 Outback, and loved it! I traded it in, for a 2015 Outback 3.6R, but I still miss the body style of my 2009. I'll be keeping my 2015, for a very long time. @ 78K miles, I replaced the spark plugs, ugh! I'm so glad that doesn't have to be done very often, LOL!
I'm on my second 2005 3.0R sedan. I still have my first one but at 273K miles it developed a burnt valve. Up until then it was running great and even on 5 cylinders it still gets around, lol. My "newer" 05 3.0R sedan has 117K on it and is a good car too, just needs a few minor fixes from the same Subie dealership I've gone to for 15 or so years, King's Subaru. Their service department is very good.
The Subarus are excellent cars, very reliable and safe, the issue of corrosion should improve; I live near the sea and at least twice a year I have to remove and protect the entire steering and damping system from rust; Beyond that, very few cars reach 167 in these conditions👍.
Hi, first I wash everything with a liquid kitchen detergent, once dry I use steel or bronze brushes depending on the type of rust and finally I apply a rust neutralizing liquid with a brush. That has given me good results, the bad thing is that you end up quite dirty😆😅
Brake light + Traction light ON - 2012 Outback manual - 112k miles - No codes - Any ideas? … checked pads, gas cap, new batt + alt, fluid, reseated abs connection, reseated fluid res. connection, reseated connections on dash parking brake panel, the actual parking brake is engaging/disengaging … had a C0042 using a harbor freight scan tool for one event of a code read but has not come back
This vehicle had been on a video a little over a week, an the problem. Was ac not cooling below 65 f and❤ you diagnose it as a failure on the ac compressor. The owner did not want it repair due to high cost on parts needed. Price should be adjusted accordingly for sale.
That Y-pipe was such a bad design by Subaru for that era. The one pipe split in two leaving a very tight V where the pipe split. Plenty of room for water and salt (and a single sheet of paper) to get in and corrode things, but impossible for a welder to get in to fix or patch it. No choice but to cut it out and go aftermarket like this. When we replaced our 06 LCAs the new ones were aluminum. Another thing to look out for was the rear subframe bushing, they get squeaky.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure those are legacy GT aluminum lower control arms cause I looked into those but unfortunately they don’t work for the fifth gens. Also, if I’m correct the transmission has a filter on the driver side.
I've got a 2009 Forester X with 200,000 miles on it. Never broke down on me, but I think the U joints or something is going out because when I make turns I feel some light clunking. I don't know what it is.
@@RicArmstrong I had noise turning and on some bumps at 150k recently replaced problem solved. I also did sway bar links they are cheap enough if done yourself. i live in rust belt so i took flame to all the bolts. Good luck with you car. my subaru was abused as shit when i got it and it is much better now was mostly the simple things(sparks,transfluid,diffs,serp,pcv, clean throtle,cataclean). Replaced a radiator with transmission lines and the front wheel bearings. I am no mechanic either i just watched you tube and got tools.
he Lower control arms are likley from a Legacy Spec. B. those had all kinds of cool aluminum suspension parts with Bilstien shocks. great oem+ upgrade if your car didnt come with them.

Thanks, dude... I'm not a mechanic but learning. 2011 Outback 130000, Southern car 2" lift. Now... for an open question. Popping noise in front left sus when entering depressions and turning. Now... money is an issue, and I don't just "get a new one" when something tears up. However, should I get just go ahead and get the Control Arm Kits that have everything new for both sides, or just the???? micro issue? I can do the work either way. I have the tools. I think? I am looking at the total package for possible ease of installation plus I get new stuff on both sides. Is my thinking flawed? Also, rear wheel bearing... should I just get 2 new Hub kits? Final question... Looking at re-charge impact wrenches for Auto's, s, small equipment (consumer not pro). Is the Milwaukee Stubby a decent choice? 1/2 or 3/4? Thanks for your shares and channel. It is very helpful to me. 👴 Oh, for those that wonder... 245/65R17 Falken Wild peak AT's rub like hell. Look great and are excellent tires but too large for this model. I am going back to what it was designed for 225's. 4 years of "living with it" is not fun...Trust me.
250k km plus, and when it start to rattle on cold start in a hot summer day the time has come...😅 i am on this stage now and will replace the head gaskets too - still on the original ones and no leaks😂, water pump, pcv etc.full engine refresh:)
Mr Subaru. I'm wondering if you can help me. I just bought a 04 Outback with 90k on her and I'm very excited!! The area where the vehicle was is pretty rough road-wise with lots of speedbumps and I feel as though the ride is very rough, but can't spot any leakage in struts. I have a 2008 2.5 and I love it. But the head gaskets just went on it. Oil is frothy and it drains the radiator. At 195,000 miles not sure I want to put the money into it.
The subaru community is struggling with Thermo Control Valve issues on the new vehicles. They go bad after a couple of miles and sometimes after warranty has expired. Can you please give us your input or a solution about this issue?

Obviously no warranty would apply for me. I am trying to source a new TCV and replace it myself. I just cannot stand not using all the features of a new car for a faulty part.

just bought a 2013 legacy 2.5 premium 145k couple days ago waiting for subaru dealership to detail and install new windshield however after watching all your videos im scarred did they fix the head gasget issues in in 2011/2012 or no ? am i safe or safer ish with my 2013 head gasgets ? i havent actually signed final papers yet untill pick should i run scarred or just expect to be out 2k in the near future ?
hello there Mr subrue I'm the original owner of a 2019 Crosstrek 2.0 the mileage just hit 52k and it started burning oil we always change the motor oil at 3 k. At the dealership tells me the valve guides are bad this normal or common
I have a friend that ran her outback with no oil, so I got it off the road changed what oil it had but now it has a a bad piston slap how can I fix that? It runs great other than that

That's my car...Falken Wild Peak AT. IMO, the performance and look of the tire are a perfect match for the Outback. Road noise from the tread was not an issue.

My 2009 Legacy 3.0R has 300k on it and still runs like clockwork no issues with it whatsoever
The only people that complain that Subarus are unreliable are the ones who neglect them!

no external transmission oil filter on the 5EAT used on the H6 or Turbo. The 4EAT's had them.

Sway bar endlinks make a hell of a noise when bad.
I'm rebuilding the engine of a 2006 obk here in Brazil and it's been hell to find parts.
Great videos, have you ever worked on 09 Legacy 2.5 GT is so what are your view on that model.
