- I'm leaving Los Angeles for Austin, Texas y'all! LA is a really fun place, but after nearly a year there I'd say it's better to visit than live unless there's something keeping you there that you absolutely LOVE.
Since graduating Salt Lake City, UT; Los Angeles, CA; and now Austin, TX. I have been in love with Austin since 2018...it's one of the hardest cities to leave for me and one that truly feels like the closest to home than where I was born. I'm really excited to do some meaningful work here in both journalism and aviation.
In LA I did find sunshine, and just this chill vibe that I quickly fell in love with. I realized soon though that I had a roommates that didn't make the move for the same reasons I did, that I was overpaying for everything (in both time and money), and that overall west coast people, weren't my people. I'll be exploring this more in a future video which I look forward to sharing!

Ahhh thank you Shaun! you’re the best. me too, it’s crazy how big of an impact environment can have on a person! thank you yes excited to be back and to stay this time 😂🫶🏾
Good to see you Malick! Good Luck in Austin you will be much happier there and the food looks amazing especially the donuts.
Randy! I don't know if I ever thanked you for your note and gift - thank you so much! I still want to send you a note. Hope you're well. And yes voodoo is always a good time haha
+ yes I'm soooo excited about atx!!
@@malickmercier yayyyy I am so happy you received it I just wanted to brighten up your day especially when you're flying.
Your video made me very hungry…. LETS GO!!!! I can’t believe you live here!!!
HAHA craving torchys everyday now 😂
daaaamn. LA does sound fake. it's crazy. it's so sad :( it's so competitive and fake your way to the top. i truly could not survive it there lol. i wish you were able to find a community there :( i can't wait for the video about your experience!!! i'm intrigued
excited for the next chapter!!!!! yay
You’re so sweet! Thank you yeah it’s a bummer I really didn’t think it was true but my experience is it is. I have a ton of connections…in 10 months ONE person took a meeting with me. ONE. It’s like really unproductive compared to NY
But thank you!! I’m so excited too! Gonna do my own thing and take it to the top ❤️
@@malickmercier and it has nothing to do with you, your talentS, capabilities or who you are, it’s LA not you. It’s almost a compliment if you can’t fuck with LA lol. Can’t wait for more videos!!!!! - new subbie
Omg I missed your vlogs! Hopefully you’ll start vlogging again ❤
awww thank you so much for welcoming me back❤️ yes, I think i'm back for good now. so much easier to focus here...so much was happening in LA 😅
Congratulations bro happy for you 🫡🫡🫡
awww thank you!! 😊 already getting in my groove here so much content coming!
I agree. I lived in Southern Cal for 9 years and I found so many people to be superficial. It took me a long time, but I was so glad to get back to the east coast.
Yeah I had another transplant tell me no one would help her in LA and it just hit me of how many people did not help me, said yes, but really meant no
Yeah being the hometown coast I love it so much…crazy how the coasts are like different countries 😅
I’m from San Diego and in some ways I miss So Cal but for the most part I don’t. You did the right thing moving to Austin.
I can imagine. It’s weird because when I land im still excited to be in LA LOL despite all the issues. But then once im out in the streets im just like 😅 thank you for your support Laura!
When I was in my 20s and 30s LA was a great place to visit for a few days but not to live, unless you're in the entertainment industry
feeeeel this. even then i'd really give it thought if you're not from there. it's so fun to visit!
I love the Ithaca College connection‼️ 💙💛
me too
LA doesn't account for the entirety of California. I live out in Temecula and its the really nice out here. LA is a cess pool of fuckery. I wouldnt move to LA period. Yes Texas is the new frontier. Congrats on your endeavors tho
thank you David! and very true... I haven't been out to temecula, but still hoping to explore more of the state. I've met some really cool people from CA suburbs
Tanisha is a real sweetheart! I feel like I’ve seen her before. Does she sing? I’m sorry LA turned out to be a bust! That wouldn’t be the place for me either. I lived in Austin back in the late 80s (when it was cheap!) and commuted to JFK. It was a double commute back then. There was no JetBlue yet, and no one had flights AUS-JFK then. I don’t think anyone flew nonstop LGA either. Austin has grown like crazy! I don’t like that airport. It always seems overcrowded and chaotic. I’ve never seen that many people watching the bats before either. I liked living in Texas. I hope you’ll love it too!
Awww she doesn’t sing 😂😂but I just sent her your comment im sure she’ll say thank you☺️. Thank you for your kind words. I’m still grateful for the experience overall. No wayyyy that you did the AUS-JFK commute back then. Austin has grown like crazy and honestly the airport resembles the city…it’s grown almost TOO fast. The airport needs more room for sure! I’m so happy to be here though, thank you for continuing to be be here for my journey❤️
@@malickmercier yes, and I also commuted AUS-BOS for a while. I had a couple of friends who did that commute also. We’d commute out early in the morning, sit around inflight all day, then fly to Europe that night. Maybe that’s why I’m still perpetually jet lagged now! lol. I have it figured out. It’s Tanisha’s voice. Very similar to a singer I saw on TH-cam. th-cam.com/video/G11O4uZg4-c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UhGQPpMQeS0nPSUH. Did you say that Tanisha lives in AUS also? That would be awesome to have a good friend so close by. AUS has nonstop flights everywhere now. Most of the nonstops, when I lived there, were intrastate, or to hubs.
Congratulations!!!🍾🎊🎈🎉
Thank you so so much Garry!🤗
Of course you’re welcome!
Sup man Airline Worker here dallas tx here welcome to texas man maybe i will see u at my airport dallas love field
mauricio!! thank you for saying wassup! no way, that would be awesome, i'm sure commuting will bring me through love field soon! would love to say hi!
anyone relate with LA? super curious!
Hey Malick! I'm an LA native and I'm sorry you had that experience. From my run ins, anyone who has been toxic has always been a transplant or someone trying to sell the "LA image". But honestly, it just depends on the area. Most natives have been priced out of living in LA. But the deep culture and spirit of the city lives on in the outskirts. Despite the bad people, I hope you don't feel sour on LA in general. It gets a bad rap, and it's hard to hear that about my home. But I'm excited for this new chapter in Austin!! Best of luck to you!
I been in LA for 10 years , originally from the Mid West. I love LA. Definitely a better quality of life for me. My experience with people in Southern California has been so much better than the Mid West. I plan to move to the Inland Empire. I’m more of a suburban person. Can’t see myself ever leaving California. Sorry to hear your experience hasn’t been as positive. Hope your new journey works out for you.
la is a place that will make you feel lovely but NorCal is so different from SoCal it’s not the whole west coast
You’re right actually! I wish I had added more context but will make a more complete video soon. I have a friend from the bay who is very different from the people I met in LA. it’s almost like he’s more NY. i think living in more of a city gives you makes you move through life differently. Seattle, the bay, Portland all very different from LA which imo is more of a collection of towns.
@@malickmercier well thanks, hehe I was offended 🤣💋 NorCal is so incredibly expensive and the more major cities are more dangerous but there are some beautiful and safe pockets! you’ll be successful anywhere you go!! Good for you for knowing when to leave! I feel like la has had a huge cultural shift too and people are even more shy, nervous and anxious which turns into being fake people masking their insecurities with ego! it’s unfortunate but hopefully we can look forward to some awakening in the coming years! congratulations on your move sweetheart! new subscriber!! 🤙🏽💋🧃🫶🏽🌊
you can always eventually move back 💋
I hope this is the place for you kid.
Awww Mike thank you ❤️ i’ve always wanted to live in different places so i am grateful but moving is so expensive and exhausting 😅
I adore you. Wait a min. With Delta 30 years what discount does UPS offer ???? I use FedEx and its expensive as hell…. Ps. Dont ever shave yo legs 😉
TEXAS is FULL! STOP MOVING HERE!
Austin is not for you Bro let me be the first to tell you LMAO.
This seems super negative
@@miracleseverywhere6907 It's conservative but have fun.
