Stress is serious business. A human being cannot thrive in an atmosphere of stress. When a human being goes into a state of distress, wellbeing immediately declines. And so, it is only natural that we should want to make a change to the situation as fast as we possibly can. But often the situation that is causing us distress cannot be eradicated. It is out of our control to eradicate the stressor. So we are forced to manage with it, deal with it and adapt to it. We adapt to distress through coping mechanisms. But those coping mechanisms that save us, also become out prison. In this episode, Teal tells us how to let go of a coping mechanism.

I find that a coping mechanism is usually linked to a rationalization. The ego has a strong desire to emphasize where it is and because of that remains attached to the identity it claims. I've found that letting go of the story is powerful for no longer identifying with the coping mechanism. Great vid Teal.

Very elegantly done Teal. It strikes me that one needs to engage REAL INTELLIGENCE when listening to Teal's messages, and listen to them more than once. If one does not listen to the entire message carefully, thoughtfully and thoroughly, it is possible to misunderstand; and then we see those who have not engaged objective intelligence attack the message and more foolishly the messenger, because they have only half heard the message and consequently misunderstood. Teal's words rarely come sugar coated which is why those who can only cope with sweets reject them. Teal is not for everyone, but those who are blessed through her, treasure her greatly.

In Theta Healing we use a very similar process we call 'Digging' aka 'Belief Work' , where we tap in to the subconscious, go back to the first memory and lift the trauma, and complete the lessons/benefits from that time, + many other beautiful sprinkles 🥰 This has worked wonders on my addictions and escapism 🤗🥰 yay to growth and accepting our emotions

Weirdly enough, obsessively watching spiritual videos and refreshing social media for "answers" or "signs" has become toxic. I presume at some point it was or could feel helpful, but also, I recognize this as the ego's attempt to keep seeking validation and respite - while a larger part of me sees this, and how at times it only serves to propagate a sense of confusion, disorientation and distrust in myself. While often, there may not even BE an issue. It could all be that I am assuming something is wrong... or perhaps my body senses trauma and assumes a threat based on past conditioning, to which my coping mechanism has been to obsess over internet spirituality to seek answers because at times I just do NOT know how to handle the uncertainty or resolve the feeling I am having.

@@menthol1234 It IS the voice of others in the brain, it's habitual thinking! That's why I'd get a revelation, I'd feel trusting, and then a thought would go "but wait, how are we sure?" and then I'd go looking for more confirmation... see, that's why these days it's so important for me to trust myself more and regain trust and the ability to listen to myself when I am lead to something helpful or enriching. Just trust that it's all working out and stop stressing about needing constant confirmation and answers.

Wow I resonate with all of this. Seeking validation from different teachers and practices leading to less self trust. I don’t know what triggered the beginning of my journey, I just knew I wanted to feel happier and in a way the practices I was doing were a bandaid to the pain. I think someone who didn’t experience validation growing up can seek that in numerous ways in adulthood

I'm so loving, how I feel so absolutely understood by you.
I see now how this makes sense - that I don't want a hug, when I fight against the pain- a hug mostly starts making me cry - and that was what I was fighting against as a kid. Like " see you don't causing me pain -whatever you do to me it won't hurt me anymore "
It was in my schooldays, for getting a kindergarten teacher - when I noticed, that there are a lot of people together, having problems to solve, themselves -
I saw you first -when I already began my way to awareness - and hell there where a lot of pain- and you where my useful friend -took me by my hand - and walk with me way

  • @77ponch77

No pain no gain. You need pain to understand there is danger/harm out there. Pain is feedback as she stated, but to me its also like your mind/body hitting the gas and but you have to steer away from something bad or toward something good. Use the energy from pain/fear/etc. to drive you toward positive results. It's gotten me throught the toughest times. Unfortunately I coped also. And this coping lead to a breakdown 5 years ago. A slow process of worry lead to lack of sleep which lead to not eating then basically snapping and "uncorked" my painful memories and made me unable to control my feelings and left me with anxiety, panic, fear and I am constantly triggered by objects, places, thoughts, anything! My feelings are exaggerated. Things that were easy to deal with can cause intense anxiety or panic. I'm afraid to be by myself. I feel so alone. I'm 41yrs old and I was as tough as they come. I believe its PTSD. I have some hope because of a treatment I believe can help me I just hope I can get it and that it works. Great video

Thank You so much Teal. I Love Your mind, I Love Your humor, I Love Your darkness, I Love Your conscious analysis, You help yourself and others to understand life's issues from a (primarily) mental level in these videos... because We Are all in our precious HEADS!! Its an absolutely necessary step for many of us. Those whom criticize Your methods/approach are dealing with low self-worth (arent we all?) and simply 'reciting' You and not getting good results because no one wants to be preached to, they want to be connected with from the heart. They have not embodied the teaching so others cannot receive it. A different issue entirely. Why blame You? If they had truly integrated their minds, they would honor and respect the step of mind and its valid need for innerstanding and cultivation. Let's point our gentle fingers inwards Angels.. Lots of Self-Loving to do around here. You're a badass Teal. And they are just upping Your Love mastery/embodiment and Mine. Hugs and Aloha from Hawaii

I love it when I pause the video to write down and process what is being said....then the next thing I listen to is what she says next....lol....its funny but it also helps me to trust myself and realize the answers are within. They always have been....one of my coping mechanisms as an adult in relationships is to run far from them when things got painful...i just realized remembered that as a kid i used to run away from home to avoid getting a punishment....it was a way to deal or cope with the physical and emotional abuse I felt.i.e. pain.... in my current relationship while I kept trying to run I finally stopped running and decided to face the pain...i was able to leave not because i was running away from but finally seeing how unhealthy it truly was. making this connection immediately made me breakdown emotionally in tears....i got to see it and release it.

What Teal is saying about spiritual practices being coping mechanisms is SO SO SO SO SO very true!!!
Teal's dead on in what she's saying. It's so easy to escape our own lives by hiding out in "some higher secret practice" that's spiritual. I myself HAVE DONE THIS!!!! For many years! I am NOT doing this now, but I have. I used spiritual practices to justify my own irresponsible actions and my not facing anything. I've made messes that I refused to even SEE let alone deal with. And I justified it by saying my practices were more important.
I remember a Roshi in Chicago once being asked about a koan by a student. Roshi simply looked at the student and said something like, "Steve, you have a job you hate, you're alienated from your children, and your wife is on the verge of divorcing you. And yet you want me to give you the answer to this koan?!? YOUR LIFE IS THE KOAN!!!!"
BTW, the Roshi's name was RIchard Langolis.

I googled and found a full list of coping mechanisms and after reading it I really had to soften down, luckily I knew how now. I took again contact with words that do not make part from my daily vocabulary and I commit to analyse and work with each coping mechanism. After all this years of life, I now discover that I'm made of copying mechanisms over 95%. I can't even have an opinion without being judgemental about myself, but I really wish that the idea of knowledge would be more underlined and bolded into children, students mind, adults etc. Good luck to everyone who's working on this now!

Anyone else who was brought away from spirituality as a result of this realisation? After I noticed I wasn't as logical as I hoped I was, all of my beliefs went under scrutiny, a rigorous one I must add, and as these illogical (but necessary to survive at the time) beliefs were exposed, I was lost for some time, like my whole world collapsed on its head. It was a terrifying but humbling experience. Now I'm rarely that sure of anything, (maybe this too is a coping mechanism) but this way I'm more open to learning and hearing other perspectives, and I know that it's okay if I'm not perfectly logical (expecting myself to be perfectly logical is an illogical expectation, given that I too am a human).
Thank you for this enlightening video, I wish I had found it sooner.

What an emotional wake up call this video is!! It reminds me of the video Teal has the coincides with this video pretty well, the video, Emotional Wake Up Call....After I write here, I'm going back to that video to listen to what she mentions there...for the more you awaken, most likely the more you recognize the coping mechanisms have become a part of life, for a way to avoid/cope with/deal with stress...for I've become recently very aware of a threat going on in my life that has caused a reaction from me to that threat, a reaction I realize that has been nothing but a coping mechanism...until I realize now, that everything I have been doing or attempting to do, has been directly related to being nothing more than a coping mechanism to that very threat.....
Being blackballed by people that I had been close to in my original family environment, had been the most excruciating experience of my life, and I had learned to cope as a child, through coloring, drawing pictures, and trying to make everyone around me happy, and as a way to heal the very blackballing from happening....I took that coping strategy and turned it into a career, where currently I have a degree in interior design, and have been creating harmonious environments through color, placement (space planning) and materials...for over 20 years...
For me, coping turned into a real desire, for the desire to create a harmonious environment is always within me, and comes from a deep, deep desire....
I still have the people in my past blackballing me to this day. They are hell bent on treating me as the 'evil child' they did when I was younger...
The only person on the face of the earth that has provided me with guidance, healing, and a clear path through the emotional pain of that is Teal Swan.
To see or hear people try and blackball Teal Swan, gets a real rise out of me, knowing from personal experience, what that really feels like...
Going around and saying people are 'evil' and trying to blackball them, is a real epidemic in our society...where there seems to be a lack of awareness regarding discernment. Teal mentions this in her video with Ralph Smart....
Anyone told they were an 'evil child' in childhood, or treated as 'difficult' or 'bad' or with any other judgments, read the book titled, 'Childism'-Confronting Prejudice Against Children' by Elisabeth Young-Bruehl. This is a must read for why as a child, you learned to cope with the child prejudice you experienced..
I experienced so much child prejudice as a child, and so much emotional torment and torture, as well as physical abuse, that went along with that...that coping was the only way to survive....
Finding Teal, and receiving her guidance, and from a place of understanding that she has been exactly where I have been, has been a blessing to me in my life...

I love your videos bcuz you break everything down so ppl can really understand and recognize the behaviours you are talking about, I can always relate. I'm assuming the several videos you posted of ppls stories and how you helped them was a response to the hate videos and I think that is very classy !

Your right about this. I've done this before and I stopped using. Although I dont do yoga and chakra meditation no more. I feel being thankful for my feelings no matter if they are good or bad is a way I use my God given conscience to make my own decisions about how i want to feel.

So all we have to do is Relax and be ourselves? I nearly cried watching this. I’ve been running from Tension in my Body my whole life and have always used Alcohol to cope. Ran away from A.A because I felt controlled by people in that fellowship.
