In spite of their decisions, it's impressive how Sega was able to resonate with certain markets during different generations and create a Rock Paper Scissors effect: Master System dominated Brazil, flopped in Japan and NA. The kids and game magazines during the 90s always see the Saturn is weaker than the PlayStation but now looking back the difference is actually not that huge and are almost negligible in retrospect. The crt tvs and scanlines used during those years also made 32bit games look better than what is being shown on modern hd tv and youtube too.
The Saturn is my retro motto. I have such great memories on it is still something awesome. It wasn’t a failure in my point of view with all those import gems. The Dreamcast was the failure in my point of view with only half of the Saturn catalog. I was so upset when Sega decided to stop the Dreamcast. The Saturn has such amazing rare variants ( hi Navi, super prologue, SGX …). Nowadays we have also new homebrew and translation.
I've just bought my first Saturn because of your channel. A lot of bad decisions in the last 5 years got me in my lowest point in my life. Retrogaming and channels like yours helped me in those last years to overcome depression and other bad things. Heard that Saturn helped you too in some bad times, so I decided to buy a (yellowed ahah) japanese Saturn and two controllers and a multi function cart. I cleaned it and now I'm enjoying it. Unlocked the Stratos in Sega Rally Championship at the first try, and I unlocked all the cars (and the horses ahah) in Daytona USA in 30 minutes, but man, Astal is kicking me in the ass, didn't expect to be so "hard". Btw, too much words, thanks for your suggestions!
I think I’m obsessed with your content, it’s like it is made specifically for me! 10/10! Thank you for every video you make, you have no idea how much it’s been helping me through the hardest time in my life.
I was born in 1993, and i didn't learn that the Sega Saturn existed until 2008. Upon learning this, I immediately went on Craigslist and bought one cause retro gaming was an incredibly cheap hobby back then, and I've never looked back. I can't say that it's truly my favorite 5th Gen console, but I love it just as much as it's more popular contemporaries.
Yes, bro. For the record, I *love* these marathon videos. I put them on whilst I'm doing a particularly monotonous task that takes ages, lol. Mega Drive/Genesis next, please. 🙏🤞
Just bought my Saturn a year ago, and I cannot stop playing it. There are so many great titles, I even modded a second Saturn to have the entire US library on it. I was even reading that lately Saturn has been getting a lot more attention over the PS1. This will only help the console get a lot more attention that it deserved. GGz Sega!
@@Adamtendo_player_1not all of them, but yeah, the games designed for Saturn from the ground up have aged better than most of the stuff made for the PS from the ground up.
damn I just spent 2h listening to Sega Lord X talking about my favourite console's games. Didn't even notice 2 hours had passed. Awesome video for us Saturn fans and a showing of its great library.
I recently purchased a saturan and some of the must have titles, I did so because of the fond memories of playing at my friend's. One of the first games he got was Bug! As clumsy as it is today, I still LOVE it
Sega Rally is a real masterwork on saturn. Till today the best Rally game for home consoles. The programmers must be gods to port all physics of an racing wheel based game to a perfect gameplay with only 8 Way on a Saturn Pad.
When I got my Saturn modded to play Japanese games and got my hands on X-men vs sf and my true love msh vs sf. God it was like hidden alien tech. It felt like I had a cps2 board at home. I felt above my American gamers. Modern Gamers will never have that feeling. That 4mb ram cart gave me amazing memories. So sad what’s happened to capcom and marvel also NRS. Game companies give us the same boring crap now, I am so sick of hunter monsters and evil residents
I have been gaming since the early 80s and the Sega Saturn is my favourite console. It has graphics and audio unlike any other system and I really wish it would have been more successful. I’d love Sega to release a Saturn mini but doubt they ever will. I hope that Saturn emulation progresses in the next few years then I can invest in an emulation machine
I was young for this sega. I had the Dreamcast and picked up another one. I’m looking into getting a sega Saturn. These graphics are amazing I had no idea
There was only one Saturn in my neighborhood, and we absolutely got down on Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Cop. Most of the time, people who write badly about video game systems like the Saturn (or other things with potential) is that they need to make a quick buck off the words while the discourse is hot. Always been that way.
When the 16 bit era arrived, I was pressed for the Turbo Grafx and always kept my eye on the SNES. My family went with the Genesis, and I was happy that they did because I always felt the 6 button controller was by far the best. Fast forward to the next Gen, Saturn and PS1 were, and N64 was well on its way. I read an Gamepro article on Night Warriors, and saw the graphics and knew they had kept the 6 buttons on the face of the Saturn controller, with two bumpers. Right there, I knew I would go with the Saturn, and I never looked back.
I've been gaming for 40 years now and the Sega Saturn is to me the very best video game system of all time! I mean c'mon online multiplayer on a console in the mid 90s?! Web browsing, those amazing Sega exclusives!! Um panzer dragoon, panzer dragoon saga, burning rangers, guardian heroes ,nights, Sega rally, virtual fighter and the list goes on, btw the only game system in history that is as innovative and superb as the Sega Saturn, was / is the Sega Dreamcast. If Sony never ruined the game market with their shitty yet somehow popular PlayStation, boy imagine how much further we would be today, Sega made consoles in the 2000's !? Just imagine the innovation we don't have, that's where Sega would have rocked the gaming world. They were so innovative! I consider myself a PC / console, hardcore gamer I own every video game system known to man since coleco vision and guess what there is 1 Sony console in my epic collection a PS4 that was given to me , and it has 1 good game ( which is on every console) sega's phantasy star online 2 ! SEGA!
Your work and dedication you put into your videos are incredible, you truely are a enrichment for retro gamers, gamers in general and everybody who's enterested in video game history itself. 👌✌ Nevertheless there is one problem for me: In my region the Saturn and Dreamcast are only avaiable via TV antenna cable. It really is a bummer that Sega ever refused to use AV cinch cables like Nintendo and Sony, which basically have been the norm since the mid 90's.
Las weekend I finally got to make run properly a Sega Saturn Emulator and got to play Saturn games for the very first time in my life.. 1- Clockwork Knight is an amazing game 2- Astal is a feast to the eyes (I know where you got your intro) 3- Nights is more magical than I expected Somehow I felt like a 10 year old boy again.
Thank you for what you do, Sega Lord X!! You are one of my inspirations. Our gaming experiences are similar. I have been watching for a few years now. I love the way that you tell it like it is and call out piss poor work. Yours is one of the most entertaining channels Sega or otherwise, on You Tube. Keep up the good work and we'll stay watching!!
I absolutely adored Mr Bones! It's one of the games I mention to a lot of retro gamers that is so unique, and charming. It is hard and certain levels are unforgiving, but well worth the time imo.
The Sega Saturn is one of my biggest Sega regrets and this is the best console from Sega and I aim to get a Saturn before the end of this year so I can get to experience it’s great library and it’s games I’ve held up much better than the vast majority of PS1 games.
Awesome video, the ultimate saturn reference. Thank you, it was a joy to watch it. We really felt your passion for the Saturn trough it. I understand your disappointment about Panzer Dragoon Saga, expecting another rail shooter, and the price tag being unjustified (well yes and no, demande and offer...), but if you take the game for what it is, at its release, for its backstory that went on development hell, soundtrack (!!!!), the cutscene, gameplay, Graphics, the world! This game is a miracle on the Saturn, a développement tour-de-force that DID compete FF7. And in the end, it also did show the world that the Saturn was capable of what everybody thought it could not do. It doesn't deserve more spotlight because we dont want the price to go higher, but it should not be forgotten as a masterpiece and the pioneer that it was back then. Sega has too much innovative Ip that went forgotten or were overshadow by more mainstream title, and ended up just being another title with poor sales from sega, starting with the very first PSO on the Dreamcast that was one of the most innovative game of all time at its launch and legit changed the industry for what it is today, over shadowed by the launch of xbox live and the online play on other console. It's never mention in top 10 of all time even if it deserve its place next to mario 64. PDS redefined rpg and story telling on console and looked waaaay better, cutscene and in game graphic included, with voice acting, that ff7. Its combat system was never seen before. Let it not sink in the forgotten realm of Sega pioneering IP.
Assault Suit Leynos was recently released for the Switch in Japan, I wonder if they will localize it for the west at some point, though I have the Saturn version, on a good sale might be worth checking.
My best friend of 30 years had a Saturn back in 1996 when it came with the 3 game pack including free copies of Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona Racing, and Virtua Cop 2 and we had hours and hours of fun with those three games alone across many weekend sleepovers, but our favorite game to play on Saturn was actually Area 51 as stupid as that sounds. It wasn’t until much later that I realized how unique a console it really was.
Oh yes! We are in dire straights for this. There so many games unpayable on ebay. Collecting all Saturn games has basically become impossible. 199$ for a Saturn Mini with build in TFT HD monitor and like 25 preinstalled games, all running butter smooth with 60fps would be a blessing.
The Sega Saturn is an amazing console it’s better than the N64 if Sony and Microsoft never came out with consoles it would still be just Sega and Nintendo blessed to see all from 1980-Now
A lot of what released on N64 either didn't age well or wasn't that good to begin with. The reason for that was Nintendo wanted to push 3D on the system which hurt it in the long run. There is a reason why the Saturn got more games than the N64. The N64 used cartriges instead of CDs.
Brother, you have just... you made my summer man! Let me explain, my friend. I started watching this video when your Assault Suit Leynoss coverage started, and it was like being struck by lightning... It was like being transported back to 1996'ish and I'm in my parents' home reading EGM or GamePro. I see a new release in Japan- Assault Suit Leynoss for the Saturn. I absolutely loved Target Earth and wanted this game badly. Unfortunately, it never released here (or that I know of). As luck would have it, my cousin (also a gamer of our age) is watching this with me. He tells me... "Bro, they just released that on the Xbox Series X and PS5 as a Saturn Tribute. I have it pulled up on our Series X right now, and he's thumbing through our PS5 store to find it there. The cheapest platform wins or failing that the Series X takes it. The Xbox Series X gamepad is the absolute best in the industry. The PS5 is good but finally, Microsoft got it right. It only took them 4 generations of terrible ganepads to do it. ;)
The PC version of Powerslave was actually running the Build engine (Duke3D, Blood, etc...) and was a different, less cool experience. It was more linear, the map design was worse, there was a lot of repetition, but the positive was the guns had standard ammo instead of weird orbs and a bar you filled up for weapon power, which made it tough to tell exactly how many bullets you had.
I was a weird kid and went with the Saturn and N64 in that generation. Let's be honest here, 3D at that point was in its infancy. The N64 was the only console that did 3D decently well with titles like Mario64 and Ocarina. I feel that Sega should've just included the RAM cart and pushed for more Capcom and SNK arcade games.
Panzer Dragoon 1&2 look great still, Nights looks really good, Virtua Fighter 2 and the fighting games that came after it all look good. Yes, 3-D was is in it’s infancy, but that doesn’t mean it all looked like shite. I remember playing Panzer Dragoon when it came out and it blew my mind.
I got one off Santa Claus in 96. Life changingly loved it. Panzer Dragoon Saga was the absolute 💣 Shining Wisdom too. Resident Evil too. Class. Motor packed in on mine and cd stopped spinning about 10 years ago so got rid 😢
shining force 3 and holy ark, and dragon force1 and 2 , and lunar 1 and 2, and dracula x , and sonic r , and marvel sh vs sf, snd x men vs sf, and guardian heroes, and policenauts, batsugen and hyper duel and radiant silvergun, battle garegga and cotton 2/boomerang, thunder force v and layer section and darius gaiden and metal black and psythe and fughters mega mix and metal slug and liquid kids and bulkslash. sega rally and nights and vf2 theres just so many that i love for this console, it’s definitely my favorite with dreamcast right behind it, and of course mega drive, sega cd , maybe 32x.
It was a shame that Saturn couldn’t hold its own here in Australia and it’s why I waited for the N64. Mario 64 set the new standard, however I had access to all the Sega games at the time and when I saw virtual fighter 2, I was blown away.. that should have been a release game and it’s a amazing what can be done when developers have time and the good sdk.

Imagine you wanted to have a complete Saturn library of games. I think even 20.000$ wouldn't be enough lol
@@osimos nowadays yes. Between 2000 and 2005 that was easy
Thank you!
GGz Sega!
Saturn games have aged beautifully while PS1 games have aged like milk 😂😂
@@Adamtendo_player_1not all of them, but yeah, the games designed for Saturn from the ground up have aged better than most of the stuff made for the PS from the ground up.
damn I just spent 2h listening to Sega Lord X talking about my favourite console's games. Didn't even notice 2 hours had passed. Awesome video for us Saturn fans and a showing of its great library.
I recently purchased a saturan and some of the must have titles, I did so because of the fond memories of playing at my friend's. One of the first games he got was Bug! As clumsy as it is today, I still LOVE it
When two hours just isn't nearly enough time to cover something...
Still my favourite console of all time.
Sega Rally is a real masterwork on saturn. Till today the best Rally game for home consoles. The programmers must be gods to port all physics of an racing wheel based game to a perfect gameplay with only 8 Way on a Saturn Pad.
Watched the whole thing.
Really respect the work that was put into this.
Astal was the first Sega Saturn game that I played at my friend’s house and I STILL am blown away by that game.
Still playing my saturn to this very day. Nights into dreams is on my tope 10 favorite games of all time on any machine.
Love your content so much SLX. Been a viewer for years.
Always appreciate the SEGA love. I'm with you man.
loving it !
Guardian heroes a legitimate candidate for one of the best soundtracks of all time. Dragon force a contender for one of the best games of that era.
Best gaming history channel ever. Thank you Sega Lord!
SEGA!
Amazing resource to have A. to Z., thank you brother
Your work and dedication you put into your videos are incredible, you truely are a enrichment for retro gamers, gamers in general and everybody who's enterested in video game history itself. 👌✌
Nevertheless there is one problem for me: In my region the Saturn and Dreamcast are only avaiable via TV antenna cable. It really is a bummer that Sega ever refused to use AV cinch cables like Nintendo and Sony, which basically have been the norm since the mid 90's.
It’s fun hearing your voice sound different between videos 😊
Las weekend I finally got to make run properly a Sega Saturn Emulator and got to play Saturn games for the very first time in my life..
1- Clockwork Knight is an amazing game
2- Astal is a feast to the eyes (I know where you got your intro)
3- Nights is more magical than I expected
Somehow I felt like a 10 year old boy again.
I love ps1 but I really have an ultra love for Sega, Sega Saturn
Thank you for what you do, Sega Lord X!! You are one of my inspirations. Our gaming experiences are similar. I have been watching for a few years now. I love the way that you tell it like it is and call out piss poor work. Yours is one of the most entertaining channels Sega or otherwise, on You Tube. Keep up the good work and we'll stay watching!!
Two hours in SEGA heaven 😍 Thanks a lot for this wonderful presentation !!
assault suit valken, i think, is a prequel that was released on the switch. It has a lot of quality of life features. RECOMMENDED.
I absolutely adored Mr Bones! It's one of the games I mention to a lot of retro gamers that is so unique, and charming. It is hard and certain levels are unforgiving, but well worth the time imo.
The Sega Saturn will always be special to me!! ❤
I loved the original elevator action game! Never knew there was a sequel?!
Over 2 hours of pure bliss ❤
Dragonforce and Sega Rallye was one of the best games I have ever seen. I really love the saturn.
Assault Suit Leynos was recently released for the Switch in Japan, I wonder if they will localize it for the west at some point, though I have the Saturn version, on a good sale might be worth checking.
Like the Turbo Grafx 16 and cd Hated at first. Now loved system!!
That was a fantastic FRAKING video games review my ninja
I'm Sega Lord X and I LOVE me some Sega Saturn
My best friend of 30 years had a Saturn back in 1996 when it came with the 3 game pack including free copies of Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona Racing, and Virtua Cop 2 and we had hours and hours of fun with those three games alone across many weekend sleepovers, but our favorite game to play on Saturn was actually Area 51 as stupid as that sounds. It wasn’t until much later that I realized how unique a console it really was.
There's also a remake of target earth. Aka, Assault suit lynos on the 5, steam, and everything else. It is a good play.
No way you upload a 2 Hour Saturn video in 2024. Let's goooo!
wish they would finally release a saturn mini
This is amazing! Now do one for the Mega Drive 😅
WHAT!!! Cheers SLX
This is a great video. You should put timestamps. This is a type of video that I would come back many times to search for some games to play.
#5 i also support you doing this for the genesis! 👍
I'm sad I missed out on the Saturn back in the day, but the choice was out of my hands because my dad wanted a Playstation.
Wow man you put in a ton of work! Great video!
You are the master! SEGA Saturn Bliss!
shining force 3 and holy ark, and dragon force1 and 2 , and lunar 1 and 2, and dracula x , and sonic r , and marvel sh vs sf, snd x men vs sf, and guardian heroes, and policenauts, batsugen and hyper duel and radiant silvergun, battle garegga and cotton 2/boomerang, thunder force v and layer section and darius gaiden and metal black and psythe and fughters mega mix and metal slug and liquid kids and bulkslash. sega rally and nights and vf2 theres just so many that i love for this console, it’s definitely my favorite with dreamcast right behind it, and of course mega drive, sega cd , maybe 32x.
I wish i could go back in time and grab a few copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga at MSRP. Lol.
Jep, and don't forget Conkers Bad Furday for N64 while you're at it.
Alien trilogy first level music "Droid! is the best thing about the game.
2 hours! I'm so happy 😆
Finally, a video long enough for me to sleep to ^^
Long live the Sega Saturn!
Ima download the hell out of this video
I love you
Sega Saturn is my favorite console of all time. It does not matter if N64 or PlayStation are good or not, Saturn is great.
Missing the wonderful Discworld point and click adventure game.
nice, og Sega make a new Sega Saturn
Astral é uma obra de arte! / Astral it's a masterpiece ❤
HOLY MONSTERVIDEO BATMAN!
What a festival - Great games great system even from european point of view- Thanks retrogaming Saturn ages well compare to PlayStation- 2 thumbs up videomix
good god those commercials might be the worst ever. was a Nintendo fanboy back then and they just made me laugh. i knew saturn didnt have a chance
I am glad Bulk Slash got translated. Now it's time to destroy stuffs and hire navigators.
