I'm about to buy this kit and thanks to this vid I now know it has a separate engine detail which is great news now I can swap a V8 onto it very cool car too.
Hi Mateo, thanks for watching and the question. Yes, I use retarder especially for Tamiya acrylics since they dry so quickly. For small pieces I do not use retarder but for any parts that are larger than small then yes use retarder.
Thanks Will for the comment and also subscribing. Are you using model color or Model air ? For Model Color I use the Vallejo Airbrush thinner and also some Vallejo flow improver. I don’t remember my exact ratio ( will have to test and let you know) but just thin enough that if you lift the paint to the edge of the paint mixing cup that it drips back down easily while leaving a thin coat of paint then it should be good. One important tip for Vallejo paints is to make sure you use a primer since they lift off easily unlike other model paints.
@@weekendhobbyist Thanks buddy, yes I’m using hobby air with flow improver and thinner. I think it’s just me, trying to understand what pressure, mixing ratio and weather etc. Sometimes it works great and sometimes it splatters, could me my airbrush too, so many things can make it wrong but I think experience will be the only way to get it right. I always use primer. Thankyou for your quick reply and help mate, will be watching your videos, I only just found your page. Have a great week mate. Sending you a hello from Australia ☺️👍
@@blackphantom99 Hi, from the other side of the 🌎! It sounds like maybe the paint is too thick if it splatters. Have you checked and fully cleaned the airbrush needle/nozzle? I use around 15 PSI. The Vallejo Model Air should be thinner than usually already so 🤔. For beginner airbrushing, I love airbrushing with Tamiya Acrylics and of course Mr. Hobby Acrylics. I always use the same-branded thinners to reduce problems. They are more forgiving in terms of thinning ratios and go on butter-smooth. Oh and if glossy paints you can add a little Tamiya retarder or Mr. Color Leveling thinner to them. Take care , and have fun !
@@weekendhobbyist Thankyou for all your help mate! Will trying thinning a little more and experiment, I will also drop my pressure to 15psi as I have it at 20. I have mr hobby leveling thinner but the Vallejo hate solvents and the colour I’m using I can only find with Vallejo for the car. Once I’m done, I’m switching to my mr hobby and tamiya acrylics as you said they are a lot easier to work with. Again thanks for all your help! Take care buddy 😉👍
Hi Thanks. They are very nice rims. I bought these 20 years ago and finally got a chance to use them. Perfect 90’s wheel. Here is the link to the set www.scalemates.com/kits/aoshima-015469-racing-sparco-ns-ii-tire-expedia-s-07-set--246593
I built the convertible version of this kit in the mid-1990s. Beautiful model and looks great in this color scheme.
Me too! I built a black one. What color was yours?
I painted it green.
This is great. I have this model kit but don't know how to start and this vid gave me an idea how. Thanks!
Thanks Jericson. What color will you paint yours? My other favorite FC RX- 7 color is white.

Very nicely done!!!
Thank you Scale Auto Garage! ☺️
Very nice build!!!. Why do you use paint retarder when you brush the paint?. Does it leave less brush strokes?

Beautiful job mate, how do you thin your Vallejo? I’m just a beginner and still not getting it right with the airbrush.
