I’ve successfully used Alclad chrome for years and in my opinion you sprayed way too much chrome Alclad on them and you need to spray a bit further away. Just trying to help.
grew up in HK 2004 - 2010 lots of good memories 👍
great video, i´ve got a question: what if i don´t use glossy base for this metallic paints? thnx for answer.
For the best metal finish you will have to use a smooth glossy black base. With a non-glossy base the final finish won’t be as smooth and reflective.
@@weekendhobbyist thanks a lot for the advice.
Nice😊
Thanks Big Charlie!
Has the naming of TS-86 changed? It's called Brilliant Red on their paint chip banner currently. I'm restoring my OG clod and I never liked the dark TS-8 color. It was too dark for what C/K trucks came in originally and was never the right fit for the Clod to me. Brilliant Red looks like original Crimson/Cardinal red where Bright Red looks like original Hugger Orange. Either would be better choice, just trying to verify 86 has changed in chemistry.
Hi. Yes I think they changed the name but it should be the same paint. Thanks for watching.
I've bought the Aoshima Lamborghini Aventador pre painted in the gray colour same as yours but i was very disappointed because the body and the other parts was different grays, im gonna paint it again its that bad
people like you are why I wish x4 speed was available
People like you are always so negative
Yeah ZoomOn tends to throw in some extra parts. They sent me some extras too. No mistake there.
The best hobby shop I have ever been too, please support when you can
very useful video, I'm looking for a satisfying red tone for a US coast guard helicopter, maybe TS49 is a good start :) thanx!
Buy a printer.
100% game-changer. Speaking of which, I have an upcoming video of me 3-D printing some off-road wheels for one of my builds 👍
Are you able to test on models? Plastic spoons aren't made of the same plastic and it does make a difference
I' ve been a model bulder for over fifty years. But what's with the gloves? You won't get nuclear radiation! It's plastic!
I saw them in front of me so thought I would try them for this video. Too distracting?
ZoomOn make some excellent components. You've made me want to see your AE86 build too, can't wait.
Thanks. I’ve been wanting to start the Initial-D AE86 but have some others in front of the line such as the Tamiya NSX and the S2000.
Nice, another NSX transkit I was looking at was the Scale Stars Advance Flatout bodykit for the Tamiya NSX. Often with many of these transkits each different bodykit or part is from a different and separate model detailing and transkit company with many different companies for different parts. So far from all the model car transkit/detailing companies in terms of fit and quality ZoomOn definitely is one of the ones at the top followed by Alpha Model/Hobby Design.
Thanks for the info. I should do a detail kit comparison soon. ( I have some of them but would need another one or two to compare.)
You should also check out Iceman collections
Thanks, will do!
@@weekendhobbyist Nope. buy a printer. learn to use it. Game changer.
if the spons was not clean tat can maybe be the problem or a to thinned primmer. spekulation.
I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol before painting.
Well, 2 years later and almost 1k subs! Great videos and hard-work payed off! Subbed.
Thanks for the sub. It’s been hard at times growing my channel but I appreciate every one of you who subscribe and take the time to comment. You all keep me going. My channel isn’t as hot as the others but still going. BTW I wished I had about 200k or even 2k subscribers 😁
@@weekendhobbyist😂Whoops! Edited that comment. Looked at views 😊 Either way, I only watch yours for your skill and of course paint comparisons!! Those subs will continue, stick to it!
Thanks @specialk3357. What types of my videos do you watch the longest? Any suggestions for any upcoming content? Any kits you want to see opened or built? Thanks.
If I could visit these stores I'd screw out may credit card and pay a huge extra fee to dispatch them home... 😅
It’s a miracle I didn’t go broke at this store 😝
Nice channel! Subbed.
@zeroa6 Thanks for the sub! 🙏
Looks like a fun build. I owned 2, '72 Z cars. I still think it was the best looking, driving car ever built. This kit with all of it's moving parts, wow!
Thanks. What colors were they?
How in the world did they make this tooling without CAD in 1973 ?
The same way they made all the 1:23 1:24 cars. 👀
which one do you think is better? its priced almost double the other version, worth the value?
If you were planning to add aftermarket details, I would just buy this one since it’s included. If you just want to build the kit out of the box then stick to the regular version.
@@weekendhobbyist when do you make the comparrison video 🙂
Looks like an excellent kit, thanks for showing it. If you build it on your channel then it will certainly be a huge undertaking and I wish you luck with it.
Huge undertaking, literally 😂
I think you should build it I would love to see it complete.
@Pinkys-one-offs After going through this kit, I am considering building either this kit or another large kit from my stash but I’ll need a bigger spray booth. Also this might not make any $ sense but considering getting a new version of this kit to avoid issues with decals and missing parts 🤔
@@weekendhobbyist I think the big kids would look good if you detail up the engines even extra and add a little bit of weathering to make it look so real
I’m slowly getting into extra details/scratch-building and weathering so it will be a learning curve for me.
Did you thin the vallejo primer? The little one for airbrush
Yes, I thinned with Vallejo thinner and also a little of their airbrush flow improver.
@@weekendhobbyist it's only works with Vallejo thinner? Cause' I used water 1/1 to thin it and still jamming the nozzle 😐
I wouldn’t use water with it. Try the Vallejo thinner and the airbrush flow improver by Vallejo. These acrylics dry fast and primers are usually thicker. Have you had luck using water to thin Vallejo paints?
@@weekendhobbyist yeah, with the paint I don't have problems thinning it with water, only the primer give me issues
I built the convertible version of this kit in the mid-1990s. Beautiful model and looks great in this color scheme.
Me too! I built a black one. What color was yours?
I painted it green.
Thank you very much. A great job showing the differences between brands. Tamiya is clearly the best. Can I use the Tamiya wash on acrylic paints? I'm brand new to the hobby so I find your stuff very educational. Thank you.
Thank you for watching 🙏. I think so ask long as you spray a clear coat on top of the acrylic and let it fully cure (maybe a week or so)
Overall for model kits in terms of ranking of quality I would say 1: Tamiya, 2: Aoshima, and 3: Hasegawa and Fujimi imo.
I agree too! I think the only reason Hasegawa and Fujimi is #3 is that their kits tend to be older and they have less re-releases than Aoshima.
TY very good!
Thank you. I’m always trying to make these better.
Prototypical colors 1st and 3 rd ones. Favorite, Icy blue on white spoon. My experience with Testors. Undependable results. Always something. Might be just me.
I’ve always had issues with Testors too. Those enamels are definitely day and night compared to today’s lacquers.
Damn - one year late to the video and one week late after selecting paint for the latest build! That TS-58 looks like a nice blue tint silver - especially over black primer.
Oops 🙊. What are you painting?
@@weekendhobbyist flying saucer from The Invaders - just ordered a can of Tamiya Aluminium but really wanted a blue tint to it.....
Maybe also get a can of transparent blue paint? TS-72.
I prefer pink primer, when I paint red colors
Definitely 👍
Looks great, I can't wait to see the result when you've completed the build.
Thank you 🙏
Really cool store tour.
Alclad version is trash and so disappointing when I paid for it to only get a super dark purple. So many swore by it and disliked my comments before but yeah there’s better versions of GM to use and love all of mine minus the Alclad.
Looks spectacular. They seem to have all the kits that I've been looking for. Please ask them if they'll move the store brick by brick over to my town.
would love to be there
Camera is moving way too fast.
Thanks I will try to slow it down on the next one.
This is my favorite place to shop for my hobby supplies and kits.
I live almost exactly the same distance between Burbank and Brookhurst Hobbies so I have options. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and willing to interact with us customers.
100%!
너무 감사해요!🎉❤
Can we use normal black spray and spray blue on it? Can we do that.
I think if its the same paint brand/type, it should work. But of course do a test on a spoon first.
Ok
Wonderful that he did all the testing for us. But OMG! His delivery in the commentary was slower than the paint drying.
I've moved away from lacquers because of the smell , but Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 (not pray can) gave a fantastic finish. I now use Stynylrez and once you get the air pressure/needle size combo working right for you it's really good. A little flow improver really helps too.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm in the paint stage, interior and exterior parts are ready.. All the sudden, I decide to add Evans Designs flashing Micro LED's to the lightbar, do both sides red and ordered LA Sheriff decals. I'm mounting it to a base with a hidden battery and momentary switch. Should be pretty cool. Thanks for the tips.
I would love to see the results, especially since I'm in the middle of trying to light a kit but stuck trying to connect 16 LEDS.....
Don't shout at me, but do you wash the spoons before spraying them, as sometimes they have a releasing agent on them.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I didn’t wash the spoons but did wipe them down thoroughly with an alcohol wipe. I wouldn’t shout at you 😆. That’s a very relevant question.
Hey Weekend Hobbyist, thanks for this video! Good stuff! I'm mostly chiming in because I had the same exact experience with the Gunmetal from Alclad II Lacquers. I followed the instructions by using the 'Black Primer & Microfiller' as a base coat (non Gloss black, as per instructions). The Gunmetal just looked like more of the black, but a smooth finish, I thought something was off with the paint in the bottle. I actually fixed it by going right over it with a Gundam Gunmetal Marker from their Metallic set. I used the 'Gundam Airbrush System' to apply it. It saved the day! I can't figure out why the metallic flakes don't shine through properly in that Alcad Gun Metal. I can honestly say I will never use that particular Alclad paint ever again for gun metal. I might experiment over a shinier metal base paint, I noticed it has this translucent pen ink purple hue to it.
Thanks for watching and your message. Now I know I didn’t mess up 😎
