Seems as though compassion from doctors is so few and far between.......or that they let us see anyway. It's humbling. Medical professionals are human too and I hope that they have a heart that it does get to them. Sadly.
I am so happy with Matt. He truly is an amazing A&E doctor! He really cares for each and every one of his patients. And when I saw him crying for the two patients he lost....I really believe he is the best doctor that he can be. Instead of pretending that he didn't feel anything, he grieved for them.
I imagine staying human is one of the hardest things for anyone who works regularly around major trauma
Ive lost 7 pregnancies with 9 babies… i was so heartbroken for her. Dr matt is the type of doctor you want as your doctor. He is a huge asset to his team and hospital.
That’s so sad, I’m so sorry. Someone I know had 5 losses and then was assessed for hormone levels and once she took progesterone during pregnancy she had two successful pregnancies. I know that may not be your issue but it might be worth asking about.
@@river8760 actually that was my problem with most of my losses. I now have 19,18yr old girls are twin 16yr old boys.
I think this is a really old episode. Dr. Matt Mak has since worked for London Air Ambulance. Back when this was made he said 'we aren't taught how to speak to people or be professional'. Luckily he has an intrinsic ability to do both, which has probably propelled him to where he is now - no pun intended!
I have always thought it was an absolute privilege to be there at the end of someone’s life. No one said all privileges are pleasant.
I get this, others may not.
I felt it as an honor and a privilege to be with my parents as they came to the end of their lives. I took care of my dad for the last 10 months of his life and was the caregiver for my mom for the last 5 years of her life. To be there when the reached the end was scary but at the same time such a blessing.
I completely agree.I was with my daughter (39)when she died. The drs let her wake up enough to see me and really know I was there. I lay beside her and told her it’s ok you go on .she did. I think it was comforting for both of us.
Me too. I could not do the work of critical care or hospice nurses, that’s for sure
I was with both my folks and was so blessed to see the peace on their faces as they left this life.
This is the reality of working in healthcare. The meetings with both the healthy and the sick. To transition from caring for someone who just died, to meet new patients the next second.
We should all be lucky enough to have this kind of doctor care for us. What a sweet man to care so much for someone he doesn’t know.

Matt is the most caring doctor! The whole team are heroes 👏 🙌 ❤️! This is such an admirable and emotionally hard profession. This is the kind of medical team we all want when ill.
As a woman and a wife, I just wanted to reach that dr and hug him. I have a newfound respect for doctors in ER now.

40:25 This is so very true and I do appreciate it being said outloud in a public forum like this. As a nurse, disabled/retired, I really do understand the suffering end of life if drug out for ages is cruel of those that that make this happen too often. I cannot tell you the depth of suffering I've seen in my career and in my own family as well. Thank you Dr. for seeing the reality of life and death and respecting it.

You are a really wonderful doctor Matt, kind and caring. As time goes on, I believe you will become one of the truly exceptional medics that we encounter now and then ... but not nearly often enough. Please learn one thing though, showing your emotions is not weakness, in fact it is the opposite. It takes a confident and secure person, who has nothing to prove, to allow themselves to show their emotions. As you develop that confidence you will find, paradoxically, there is a calming effect that comes from knowing you CAN be emotional when you need to be.
This guy is an amazing doctor.

I had a similar injury from my horse rearing up & falling on top of me ~~ they weigh a half ton. I was able to learn to walk again
As a fellow equestrian, I am thankful that you have been able to walk again.
So many people don't realise that horse riding is one of the most dangerous sports.
My sister told me to exercise more, I told her I already do that everyday just caring, feeding, mucking and riding. She replied that it's not really exercise, so I made her come riding and work the horses for a day. She couldn't walk the next day...lol.
I couldn't imagine the fear of knowing that during the rearing, you were going straight back and knowing your beautiful horse would crush you. It must have been terrifying.

I still play with horses ~~ my granddaughter has my boy for her 4-H project. I miss him.
I was trying like crazy to stop that horse from going completely over. I can’t believe I survived that & learned to walk again.

My mom had 11 miscarriages and 4 babies, but 3 of them were premature. This is not uncommon. My mom had rh- and my dad rh+. Now they can give a shot to prevent the problem.
Not when I was born. So I decided to come at 8 months instead. Still smart and ticking along at 75 yrs. 😂
@@barbaraburton8914 Besides the miscarriages , my siblings were 3 weeks early ( which is still early. I was 2.5 months early and my sister was 3 months early. ) All of it was considered to because of the Rh factor.
I wa hrown from a horse. Quite a shock/jolt to my body. No permanent damage, lots of bruises and soreness. We found out that my horse had been stung on his soft underbelly by a bee/wasp. He had a big swollen knot where the sting occurred. Not his fault he bucked to try to get rid of his pain.
I wish all American docs would go train with them for a period of time. I've watched several episodes and everyone is amazing!

Talking about your end of life expectations is so important. Everyone has to face this at some point. Talking to your loved ones about what you do and don’t want is vital. In my family we have made it absolutely clear what we do and don’t want. Get it in writing so everyone knows. In the middle of a crisis situation, that’s full of emotion, already knowing the wishes of loved ones can be comforting.

They're just like us except we turn to them for a remedy when we're not well.
I love how the mother says...well we'll just get rid of him..meaning the horse. She doesnt even know what happened. Not liking that attitude.
That really disturbed me also. Like her daughter’s horse has no meaning, no importance, just trash the pony having no idea why a previously gentle horse panicked.
She had a painful pregnancy three children and 7 miscarriage wow.

Using my food handlers liscense I sneak 6 corndogs into buffets across the country. I'm on a mission to spread kindness with corndogs! I place the corndogs in my jacket pockets, enter the buffet amd head for the fried food section, I place the corndogs sneakily on a tray and then sit back and watch as other patrons of the buffet enjoy eating my corndogs thinking they came from the buffet and not my jacket pockets.

Wow! What callous disregard for a person who just died when that medical person said "you can't be a doctor and appreciate people have to die... Not everyone can be saved and I also believe that sometimes not everyone should be saved." I bet you wouldn't say that if that was YOUR loved one on that table in distress! How callous and heartless. Perhaps the 'medical professional' who expressed that sentiment would find a career in banking more fitting. I hear you don't need compassion for your fellow man in that profession!
People should also not be forced to live in pain and misery because of the people around them can't let go. My dad died after a lot of pain due to Parkinson's and while I miss him I would say that it was time for him to go- You didn't want any lifesaving or extraordinary measures be taken for him for what? For more pain and misery?
She is far less empathetic than Matt.
I take it you don’t work in healthcare. Staff can’t lose it when patients die bc they still have the loved ones and other patients to care for. They have to quickly compartmentalize and move on to the next trauma. It’s not callous and heartless; they still have a job to do.

I don't understand WHY people take the risk of riding horses.
One moment you are OK having a nice time.
But the next moment ANYTHING can happen.
I watched a video where a man read the account of how 5 friends were killed riding a horse.
They were all very experienced horsewomen and men and all the accidents were just freak accidents.
Why not just keep horses and enjoy them from the ground?
Why get on their backs and give over your life to this 2,000 pound animal,
with all these unknown triggers that we don't understand?
Thank Goddess this place was formally turned into a full on, bells and whistles actual trauma center. Because they got the worst cases anyway.
Ellie didn't fight for her horse. She didn't ask if he was OK. If I was in Ellie's place, I would have got off the bed and murdered anyone that got between me and the horse. There was a horse that took my soul with him when he went.

@Sandra Nelson...Did you see ALL the interaction between that young woman and her family? NO you didn't, so you have no clue what all went on. She couldn't feel her left leg, she wasn't "jumping" off anything. She said that she'd been riding since she was six and that wasn't going to keep her from riding. I think the horse nuzzling her at the end says how deep their bond is...
I dont know man.. when you already had 7 miscarrages, have 3 healthy children and are 36 maybe you reaaaally should consider not getting pregnant anymore..
She appears to be staunchly Catholic, so she would be against abortion and contraception, anyway. According to USC Fertility, "after one miscarriage, the chance of a second miscarriage is about 14 to 21 percent. After two or three miscarriages, the rate is 24 to 29 percent and 31 to 33 percent, respectively". So, she might just have the bad luck of having recurrent miscarriages; however, yeah, I'd definitely look into getting a hysterectomy if she keeps going down that path, because an unhealthy reproductive tract might lead to cancer in the future.
Did that crazy Dr. really tell the patient having a miscarriage that Paracetamol (Tylenol) worked just as well IV as Morphine?? He was wonderful in every other way, but needs to take severe pain more seriously.
Tylenol thru IV works much better than tablets. It disseminates through the blood stream quickly and is a higher dose. Personally, after 9 surgeries, I don’t think it works as well as morphine.
I didn't see any pauses for a process to check patient pronouns. They should not advance with care till these are all validated. That includes a reaffirmation of each of the medical team.
When people are in resus I’m sure that’s the least of their worries
