  • 8th Gen R18 to K Series Part 2: Building a proper mount kit
    By Aaron Gaghagen and Brian Gillespie
    OK, last time we hung the K20R swap in the engine bay of our base model 8th gen Civic coupe using mounts that Hasport already makes for the hot boi Si. But, there are special provisions that needed to be made for use with the hydraulic power steering of the non-Si models as well as some differences in the passenger side connections. So, Brian busts out his modeling software to make things just right.
    Before you ask, yes Hasport will be making swap mounts for the 2006-2011 R18 chassis. They will be out some time in October 2021. For more information stay tuned to part 3 and 4 of this series.

    I saved for SO long to get a set of Hasport mounts for my fully built LSVTEC turbo in my EJ8 Civic coupe (that makes 709 whp) and I am so happy with my purchase. I had Innovative mounts, I had a custom brand, and it just vibrated and sounded like crap. As soon as I got the Hasport mounts it sounded and ran so much better. Absolutely NO vibration and the engine stays right where it's supposed to. Seriously, if anyone out there is building a Honda, you owe it to yourself to spend the extra cash and get a set of Hasport mounts for whatever you're project is.

    The FD2 typ r in Japan has hydrilic power steering I'm sure if you used the high pressure line from that car it should be easy to get the hybrid power steering working with this swap, here is the pn 53713-SNW-023

    • @VTECAcademy
      @VTECAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is probably too short since those cars are right-hand drive with puts the valve body near the same side as the pump. But this is good to know. That ECU will have at PS pressure switch input. I'll need to find out where it is and see if it is dormant US ECU.

    • @Doctork24a

      @@VTECAcademy your right I didn't think of that, probably wouldn't be hard to make a custom line. The eps unit has an output that goes to the ECU just like the ps pressure switch so I assume they would send the same information, compare how the pnf ecu is wired to the pnd or prb

    Great vid, may I ask what it takes to convert from hydro to electric power steering - is that easy? Also, what happens if the donor for the K24 is a TSX with a steel pan? Will this rear mount fit to the mount location on a steel pan?

    • @VTECAcademy
      @VTECAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would require the rack, the EPS brain, and a bunch of wiring.

    • @ivogiev
      @ivogiev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VTECAcademy , that would be a great thing to see as a video showing this process - do you plan to show such thing in the future? Is it safe to say that electric is better than hydraulic compared to parasitic losses, therefor better option for a tuned car? Is wiring separate harness that is plug-n-play or what you call a "bunch of wiring" is a lot more involved? Regarding the rear mount, what I see is the mount is the same for early and late model TSX, which must mean that in your kit the rear mount is the same too - but would be happy to read it for the piece of mind.

Please help

    • @VTECAcademy
      @VTECAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but there aren't mounts made for that swap. You'd have to make them. You could modify some stock mounts to work. The passenger side mount would be the more difficult one. The wiring would pose a problem. Power steering is electronic on the Si so you would either need to change the rack with the subframe or make an idler pulley for the engine. Then you'd have to have Honda reprogram the ECU to work with the Si chassis.

      With this mount kit you can also use the RSX, EP3, 08-13 Accord, 09-14 TSX, 12-15 Civic Si transmissions. The RSX and EP3 wound need a different shifter, the others would need a different bracket on top of the transmission to hold the cables.
