Schecter's Budget Friendly Shredder! - Omen Extreme - Demo / Review

- Sure, I've checked out some Schecter guitars in the past, and although those were fantastic guitars, they ranged from 800 to well over a thousand dollars. With the holidays in full force, not everyone has that kind of cash to drop on a guitar. At $399, the Schecter Omen Extreme is a wonderfully playable and totally useful shred guitar. Let's check it out!

Does it really have dual humbuckers? Let's take a closer look- Yes.
I would like but you have 69 likes... just count my comment as one

See THIS is EXACLTY what im talking about, all the other youtubers would have gotten the schecter THEY wanted and then showed off on a video and mention how "cough" affordable it is. YOU bring us gear an actual WORKING musician can afford, truth is very few of us will ever reach any kind of rock star status, those days are gone for good, but you can STILL make a living playing music, but odds are your not going to be able to afford 8 thousand dollar guitars doing it, even if you could why would you take it to a bar or club??? These are the guitars were looking for, this is the channel to see them and YOU are the man for doing it! Thank you so much young sir, your doing the whole community a major solid.
Ely you speak TRUTH!
Ely Molloy agreed!
Totally agree. I gig a Partscaster that cost £300 and it's perfect for gigs. Building another by stripping and modding a Squier. Gigging guitars should be mid range unless it's your main source of income.
For sure u don't gonna become a rockstar if u don't trust yourself that is right
There comes a point of diminishing returns when it comes to cost. I’ve played for nearly 30 years and I can honestly say there isn’t a guitar on this planet worth more than $1,000.
I have this exact guitar. I love how it plays. For me, it's all in the neck. I pick it up way more often than my Strat.
Is the neck thin sir?
@@joeysmith8482 yes
@srkolsto Does the neck feel smooth?
Know exactly what u mean just picked this exact axe up at guitar center for 299. It’s on sale now because it’s magenta😕
@@boruchfresnipple6632 I purchased mine online yesterday, the magenta! I think it looks great... But i purchased it based off reviews alone. Can't wait to get it!
Woo, more love for Schecter! I own 9 Schecter guitars, from the low, to mid, and high end offerings, and not a single one of them has ever disappointed me. The thing most people don't seem to realize about "cheap" guitars is that they are paying for less labor/attention to detail during production, so the frets and fret edges may not be as leveled/rounded/polished as they would be on an instrument of higher expense, and of course you are obviously paying for cheaper materials. Despite this, the fret work on all of my Schecters has been nothing short of excellent. Awesome video Max, I really enjoy these.
The big 3 manufactures have come a long way and yhey aim to keep their business especially with the come up Harley Benton and Korean builders, china will soon master their craft may cause some need to really excel to stay on top of the game.
I am honestly, really glad to see that people are slowly becoming less and less skeptical of instruments "made" or "crafted" in China. I am not entirely sure, but I think that these Schecters are still made in Indonesia, if Max didn't specify in the video maybe he could correct me here. But, whether it be from China, or Indonesia, both countries have excelled and improved greatly in their ability to make guitars identical to or very close to the quality of guitars made in Korea. Between all of my Schecter guitars, I own Korean models, Indonesian models, and a bass (Stiletto Custom 5) made in China; and I have no complaints concerning any of them after setting them up. But of course, between all of the price point tiers, things have to be sacrificed to increase their level of affordability; and from what I've noticed, it's usually things like hardware and pickups, and sometimes the way the neck is attached to the body, but I'm noticing more and more that set-neck, set-thru neck, and even neck-thru instruments are becoming way more available in the "affordable" range than they ever were before. What a time to be a guitarist! ;)
@GrapeSkoda yep that's why you have companies like Nike there.
@GrapeSkoda schecter guitars are made in Indonesia, not in china
The most underrated guitar company.
I've been playing guitar for 6 months with this guitar, (but in blue finish), and I was really excited to see a review of the first guitar I've had. As far as I feel, this guitar is more than what it's price tells it to be, and I love it.
I stopped playing for a decade and just got this to try and rekindle the fun during my youth. Really comfortable guitar! Had to adjust the truss a bit but it was good after that.
That's where I'm at too, but it's more like 30 years for me. Have a Japan-made Fender Telecaster with HBs and trem that I hate playing and an Ibanez PF-200 that sounds great when it works. Now, I'm looking for a well-built guitar that's easy to pick up and play. Doesn't hurt if it looks cool too. That said, I've been researching easy to play guitars and this one always comes up.
I have one and I use it for praise team at church. With the coil splitting you have access to lots of useful sounds. The pickups are surprisingly good for proprietary pups. You don’t need to upgrade this axe.
You use a guitar named OMEN at church? Man you must have a very chill Band Director LOL - Quick question, how does it sound in a worship setting? Most of these videos are Metal Focused and I'm also interested in using it in church someday. Could you share some insights?
@@Rawforce30I used to play a Schecter Gryphon in a church setting and it was fantastic. Occasionally I’d even keep it tuned down in C Standard and just transpose to play the different songs in the correct key, but it would give me the ability to add some depth in certain areas if it fit
I’m looking at a guitar specifically for worship music. You may have convinced me.
@@borisvandruff7532 I guess if you’re worried you could use a Fender Strat. You get no arguments with those.
@@borisvandruff7532 Fender strat. It will fit any music style.
I just got this in guitar today on the used section in guitar center. It’s a steal! I was about to buy something double the price of this. And I remember your review on this guitar and decided to try it for fun since I was already leaning towards the new one and dude! I was stun about the playability and the sound of this. Thank you so much for letting me save some money!! Keep it up!
It’s absolutely absurd how much guitars have gone up in price since then!
No joke. It's $499 now. Although, maybe it has some newer components...
Blame your racist democratic president, Trump had everything low
You can buy a good schecter for around 300;to 400 that's really cheap for what they are.
@@onireno In Australia it's about $1,000 AUD on average ($656 USD)
Got the Oceanburst a few months ago on sale at GS for $ 299. What a deal! Absolutely love this guitar. Plays great and looks even better. May swap out the pickups later but still sounds great out of the box. Can’t beat it for the money.
Glad to hear more love towards Schecter. I have a c1 plus model with some upgraded humbuckers and love the tone. Thanks for these reviews.
This is exactly my kind of guitar. I've been a fan of Schecters since the 80s and recently ordered their entry level C-6 Deluxe so I can soup it up with DiMarzios. I love lightweight guitars with great resonance, and the string through body hybrid sort of thing really works magic.
I have the same guitar and using it for 3 years. Didn't expected it to be reviewed. Absolutely love my Baby 💙
Walked into a store, saw this guitar, tried it and loved it. Bought it on the spot. That neck is simple amazing!
I'm up to four lefty Schecters in my stable, nearly half of what I own so far. They are easily the best playing instruments I own. My Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR Passive is an incredible instrument.
I love my extreme 6 with a floyd rose. I swapped in some DiMarzio D Activators and this thing really rocks.
Schecter Guitar Research is REALLY blowing the competition out of the water at the moment in the budget friendly department. I have their C-7 Deluxe in Satin White and MAN is this a beast of a guitar! It did need setting up to a lowered setup (That game of How Low Can Ya go lol) and raising the pickups substantially BUT once I did, MAN this guitar that was already lively WOKE UP like the demon it is!
I just picked up a used schecter c1 and it's killer to play. I almost bought an LP copy, but in terms of comfort it's no contest. Schecter definitely is my new favorite guitar maker.
I love my quilted blue Schecter Omen Extreme I have had for 2 years. Good wood quality and a binding on the body! Mine sounds great I play through Blackstar HT5R.
I had set up one of these for my uncle and I can 100% say this guitar is an amazing guitar for the money. It shred has 24 frets humbuckers and a coil tap
Dammit Max! Just got a new ESP for Xmas and here you come with this! It's beautiful. Let's see...we could lose this couch...
😂
I bought this same model guitar over the summer, with the ocean burst finish. The guitar, for its price feels, looks and sounds premium. Excellent review, sir!
Hearing the way this guitar sounded in Drop D ensured my purchase. I play a lot of Avenged Sevenfold and getting more into LOG, so definitely purchasing this budget beast.
As the palaces burn and ashes of the wake are my favorite LOG albums
i just got one for my first electric and i love it. so much easier to play than an acoustic and feels really user friendly.
I have bough 2 harley Benton's and a GOC because of you and I told them that upon order. You are a hell of a salesman. Love your videos sir.
That omen looks like a Schecter C-1 Elite (which was discontinued in the mid 2000s) except it has an extra volume knob and a bolt on neck as opposed to the C-1 Elite's one volume knob one tone knob and set neck. I bought my C-1 Elite years ago for 300 (although since then I've seen them go for a little as 150). Low action. Holds tune extremely well. Never had to make a truss rod adjustment to it since I've had it. Easy access to upper frets and super easy playability. Over time I lightly sanded the the laquered neck, added Sperzel locking tuners, Bare Knuckle Nailbomb pickups (ceramic in bridge, alnico in neck), replaced the volume and tone knobs with push/pull volume AND tone knobs (volume splits neck, tone splits bridge) and added Dunlop Strap Locks. I absolutely love that guitar. I'll never get rid of it. I'll play it until I wear the extra jumbo frets down. Then I'll replace them with stainless steel extra jumbo frets and keep playing it forever............
Im holding my 2006 Schecter C1-Elite right now, it actually has a neckthru, not set in.
I don't have the Extreme but I have a 10 year old Omen 6 and it's pretty cool. It did me pretty well for a long time, but then I felt like I wanted to upgrade the electronics cuz they were kinda crapping out a bit and I got fretwork done on it and now it's even better. Schecter makes really good guitars.
I've had one for about a year. The blue one. The neck is super comfortable. It stays in tune very well.
Thanks for including the guitar's weight!
A dear friend just gave me this guitar. My jaw dropped at the playability and tone!
hey Max, I've been watching your channel for a while and you always nail that tone I love your guitar tone. Could you make a video about how you achieve those tones?
All Hope Is Gone Watch the reviews he's done on his amps.
Id like to see whats out there in the workd of multi effects boardscthat are affordable.
Omg where is our hour long video of you just shredding on your favorite guitar? I'd love that! And yes this video sold me on this guitar so I bought one!!!
How much did you get it for? I think I'm sold.
I don’t own an Omen (yet) but I do own a CR6 from Schecter, and it’s an absolute BEAST! Plays smooth as butter, will absolutely RIP for heavy stuff, but honestly sounds great doing whatever style you throw at it. Favorite guitar I’ve ever played hands down.
This is why I love schecter
I have this guitar but in a red burst finish. I regularly gig with this, and I even use it for my school's jazz band.
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
I have the Schecter Omen Extreme in Ocean Blue Burst. I absolutely love it! It sounds great. The neck is so smooth and fast. The only thing I would change are the controls and switch arrangement. They seem backwards to what I'm used to. I may re-wire it, but that doesn't take away from the sound and playability. I don't think you could find another guitar this amazing anywhere close to this price range. I am very pleased with this instrument. Thank you for your videos, Sir! God bless.
I have the Schecter C-6 Plus. It's also a really decent shredder! It was $350.
I’ve said this before, I’ve never owned a bad Schecter. I currently have a Demon 6 with the Schecter actives in it. Love it. Their “entry” level budget guitars really are good. I wish 30 years ago I could get an entry level guitar this good. No sharp frets, no dead notes. My only gripe with the string through is I sometimes get a ringing from the strings BEHIND the bridge and the nut as well. Not sure why but all of my Schecters have done this. A gate helps. It’s really noticeable when playing staccato.
Yes, I have something of the same experience quickly remedied by inserting small piece of polyurethane foam barrier from air conditioner unit under the strings before they enter the body of the guitar and fixed it permanently. You can also pull the pot and go single coil helps.
Definitely gonna upgrade to this from my bullet strat
Great video as always. I love my Schecter C-1+ that looks pretty similar to that. Schecter makes some really good guitars under the 1k price point.
I had an older version that I sold a few years back. Then, they came only in black or white, had dot inlays and no coil split. Still, a very playable and enjoyable guitar, especially at this price point. The Diamond Plus pickups are pretty good as well. You won't regret purchasing one of these Omen Extremes!
Keith Merrow notwithstanding! lol
Quilt maple top with matching headstock, binding, coil split, string through body and under $ 400. Very nice! 👍
I own this guitar exact model but blue color. Love it. Had to lower the action a bit but it’s an outstanding guitar. My next will be a schecter as well.
Got one of these for $299 a few months back and it quickly became my favorite.
They’re almost $600 now :( fuck this economy man
I have that guitar with the Floyd rose. It was my first electric and I still play it to this day, even though I have bought more expensive guitars since then. Got it used in mint condition for $299.
Thanks for the video ! I just ordered one , finally ! After months of stalking it online ..Different than anything I currently own and can’t wait for it to arrive .
This is definitely the most no-nonsense and informative review of this beast! Most people never put effort into reviewing affordable gear
You should also review another affordable fan-favourite by Schecter, the Schecter Demon 6 (or perhaps the 7 string variant Demon 7 that I'm about to purchase in a few weeks)
Schecter never disappoints.
Damien 6 hardtail vs this omen extreme 6 which one has better tone and playability? Only the bridge is different.
I just bought my Shecter guitar its my third guitar in my collection. And Im really loven it. You cant beat it for the price for sure.👍
I just ordered the natural gloss color, and I’m excited to get it. Love the look, and excited to feel that neck and see it’s a shredder
My favorite guitar in my collection. My wife bought mine for Christmas 2yrs ago. It's a metal monster. And it's so versatile. Have a great day. SALUTE ✌ & GOODBYE.
A friend of mine borrowed me his Omen Extreme 7 for almost 3 years. Killer guitar. One Piece mahogany body, quilted maple top in trans red... The action was stupid fast and the tone... Kinda hard on the upper 6 frets cause the neck joint but still... I loved its passive yet hot pickups.
Your video helped me a lot and it was the "final psuh", thankm you soi much! :) The guitar arrived today, in the same color. I have been playing guitar since early last year, using a Harley Benton SC Custom II until now. The difference between the two is significant. To begin with, the Schecter arrived in perfect condition, with no loose parts, uneven surfaces, or aesthetic flaws.
It is much more comfortable to play and produces a richer, more detailed sound. It genuinely feels like playing a high-end, expensive guitar.
Wife got me one of these on father's day last year, I think she got it on sale for $329 on musician's friend. Mine is the ocean blue burst and it plays like a dream. I love the neck, not much effort needed to fret notes and zero fret buzz to boot. The only things I would change are the pickups and the tuners. They aren't bad but I'm spoiled on locking tuners, and a set of Schecter SuperRock pickups would really put this guitar over the top.
I have the most recent omen 6, got it for about 300 CAD tax in brand new. One of the best guitars I've owned
I’m a recently new subscriber. Love the budget guitar reviews. I was never able to afford top of the line stuff & had to make do with in my budget most of my musical life. I’ve owned a few gems here & there but never managed to hold on to them.
Your reviews are very informative & helpful in deciding what will be my next addition to my guitar collection.
A few things that I’m interested in seeing on your channel would be on innovative accessories for example, wireless systems. I’ve had a few in my career. I’ve noticed a few really inexpensive systems on the internet. The kind you just plug in guitar & plug into amp. Cables for speakers & guitar. What are the reliable brands. Seen some really cool looking braided ones online but looks are one thing & reliability is another. Guitar strings. The choices seems endless. I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky’s( 9’s ) because I’ve been using them since I started playing electric guitar. I would venture out of my comfort zone if there was a good starting point. Which brands are good for Floyd Rose bridges and hard tails.
Just a few ideas to expand your channel’s informative format. Thanks 🙏 for all that you already have done guitar players around the world 🌎 & keep up the awesome chops!
I have this guitar, it's a 2017 in red but same quilt top, and a Floyd Rose. Bought it ever did gently used for $350. I was a newb and didn't appreciate the guitar, the tone options, how nice it is. The V fret inlays are just beautiful, and they even have one in the first fret. Even as a newb I don't need an inlay to tell me where fret one is, but when I have all my guitars lined up and the one with the F1 inlay just stands out like a man in a child's world or something. Everything about the guitar is great, it's got 5 layer, (ply?) binding around the body and the headstock, single ply binding around the neck, one push pull control to turn the humbuckers into single coil sound, and mine is again equipped with a Floyd Rose tremolo device. I LOVE my Schecter, hands down, the best guitar I own.
string though schecters are awesome. I have an old diamond C1 and a Damien-6...next up a PT special with the P90 in it. That is my favorite brand (I also have Gibson, fender, Ibanez and hagstrom) It is the string through IMO that gives much of the tone and sustain.
The guitar is absolutely gorgeous. I bought the standard Omen-6 years back, and my mate had bought one about 20 years back. They are the ultimate budget metal guitar. Tone is fantastic, very playable. The neck pup is weak on the standard series, but the bridge is pretty decent and also sounds great downtuned say to C or C#. If anything happened to it, I'd probably buy the Extreme version, even though it's not a guitar I play often.
Got one of these for $299 on Stupid Deal of the Day. This rig is a TON of guitar for the money.... really love it. I got the ocean blue finish. The coil splitting is a great feature. The only thing I’d change are the tuners, but they’re hard to source in the pewter finish. Did not need a setup.... good to go right out of the box. This is my 2nd Schecter and I’m really impressed.
Just bought one (see thru Black finish)and should arrive tomorrow! I'm stoked!
I've always been impressed by Schecter's quality, including their first price axes. The Omen are great, they play great and the Schecter Diamond + pups are incredibly good for the price. Thanks for this video Max and, please, if you wanna bury another guitar in the sand : not this one ! ;)
Hell yeah dude you are the man. I'm going to get this on Monday from a pawn shop working on craigslist for now and I knew right away you'd have a video on here. Found it in about 30 seconds...I bought a schechter today and It doesn't matter much to me...as long as it shreds!
Thank you for this outstanding and thorough review. I bought this model (Ocean Sunburst?) in Jan and have been extremely happy with it. I've been away from playing for about 15 years and this was the perfect model and price point that I needed. I also got mine on discount from GC due to a slight scratch in the finish plus additional 20% store-wide. Walkout price was $275.
I watch all your videos really solid work. Love Schecter. Have a Hellraiser Hybrid c1 frs love it. Thinking about getting a Pt Special. Great job and your channel is awesome.
My Hellraiser C-1 FR Passive is amazing. I bet that Hybrid is SWEET!
I have one just like it but with a FR in the bridge. Excellent guitar it gets played quite a bit, it has to split time with an ESP 401 LP copy 68 Strat, and a Washburn Trevor Rabin signature.
I don’t have the omen extreme but I do have a diamond series and freakin love it great guitars for a fair price
Awesome axe! Looking to have one real soon! Thank you Guitar MAX for reviewing this guitar. You totally convinced me on this one.
Max, I hope you can get to review the Schecter PT. It is another budget friendly guitar from them. I love mine.
I just ordered myself a 7 string version of this guitar! Cannot wait ❤️ also, great review 🤘
I picked one up in the ocean burst back in October when guitar center had them on sale for $299! For the value I think it’s an excellent guitar personally I’d probably end up changing the humbuckers out for something different down the road. But other than that I think it’s great.
I've had my Schecter Omen Extreme 6 for 6 years now. It's my go to guitar. So versatile, Crunchy humbuckers or silky smooth single coils very reminiscent of a Tele. I'll never play anything but Schecter.
I like all the schecters ive played. I really like the pickups they put in the elite models in like 2005. Ive never tried the sgr versions of the schecter line up
I have the c-1xxx. Love it Schecter builds a nice guitar. I’d say it’s my favorite out of the 4 guitars I own
Don’t have that one but I do have the Apocalypse with Floyd rose and Sustainiac pup. Great playing and sounding guitar. Love them ❤️
Hi Max! Nice little guitar. I realy like the through stings insted of a tail peace. love the binding aroud the head stock to. sounds awesome especially for the price. to answer your question I realy enjoy this type of content. take care Max keep up the great work from your pal Helcat in Australia.
Nice video, I just ordered one of these because of your video, it will be my first Schecter, I got the ocean blue finish, I have heard nothing but good things about these guitars especially for the price range... Thanks for helping me make my decision... God Speed
Really glad you pointed that out, about the tremolo. I'm a lady and I've only owned a few guitars and played intermittently for over twenty years now. I don't know much about guitar hardware, but I know good sound when I hear it. I was about to buy a guitar under $400 with a tremolo, really love the way you can make the guitar whine with it, but good tone is definitely more important to me, and I hate fret buzz! Great video and demo, you're a beast! PS, if anyone reading this has any insight for me, I would be eternally grateful! ✌😁
Once again, great vid. Already got mine ordered. Thanks Max
Thanks for the video demo with Schecter Diamond Plus pickups. I wanted to hear them, the only thing I could suggest when you demo is to do small demo on neck pickup distorted for warm blues tone. Thank so much for your hard work and excellent demo’s!
Wes
I love my Schecters. I have a C1 Custom and a Damien.. neck just feels right for me
i owned this guitar . about 2 years ago i had it stolen from a X roommate i miss it maan . its a amazing guitar with amazing action i had the black trans
Just picked up this guitar today I love it so much
I own this same guitar in See thru Black, can't be beat for price. Definitely has its own vibe. Shines in D and C# tuning, I've thought about changing pickups, but feel it would take away from originality, and it's unique tone! Love this guitar 🎸💯💥
Just bought my first guitar(Squier Affinity hss) Saturday @ 40yrs old. Excited as hell but nervous I'm a little to old to just be starting.
Hans_Cholo_818 You can start at 60 and still shred. It's not like a physical sport.
I started at 52, you're going to do great!
@@robertpurdy4452 Thank you for the encouragement
Just bought a blue variant of this guitar and I love it! Plays amazing and fits my needs
*That distortion you use, is exactly what I love to use. Tons and tons. I've been a guitarist for over 30 years, and I love it heavy. Some say that over time you use less and less. No!!*
Awesome Review!
Just got this guitar but in blue. Love it!
Own a omen 6 and it really is my favorite guitar. I would definitely recommend it!
Max since you actually buried your guitar in the ground we do need sort of a series of videos on it! Maybe a clean up and a setup of it now and see what the damage is?
I always been a big fan of the Schecter guitar's and they are the best
I don't have that one but I do have the C-6 Elite. I absolutely love mine.
I have this exact guitar too, just love it. It has all I need for playing in my apartment to playing at band practice or to our gigs at clubs to medium venues. I haven't switched out any stock part and have no intensions ot doing so. Great demo!!
I have the same in purple, amazing vfm guitar, though I am only a beginner to intermediate level player, it has opened up the electric guitar horizons for me!
that six string joke, like it
just snagged one of these today (ocean burst), i absolutely love it
Just picked up a blue one yesterday. I love it and am blown away!
does it stay in tune after dive bombs?? please reply!!
Getting to enjoy these reviews more with the added humourous bits.
Mine came with an extra string. I like that guitar, find it to be well made and affordable, and doubt that I will ever reach a point where its limitations are larger than my own.
