    • @niclastname
      @niclastname 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @alan wake The only argument against it that I've heard is that it's harder to work with in general. I've heard luthiers say that it wears their tools out faster etc as well because it's a much harder material.
      I've also heard some people say "it changes the tone". I highly doubt anyone would be able to hear a difference blind though.

      I disagree. A 26.5 scale ( shecter omen 7 ) is a much better choice for low string note stability. More tension across a longer tensioner will always sound better. Ibanez really should invert the headstock on all their 7 strung guitars as it would achieve a better low end due to the increased tension length

    P.S. you forgot 2 very important differences.
    The Schecter has a compound radius neck which is more ergonomic than the Ibanez Wizard neck and it has stainless steel frets,which will last longer than the nickel ones of the Ibanez.

    Good comparison video. I would add construction details about the body wood (mahogany vs ash), and the fingerboard wood (rosewood vs ebony). Also a big construction detail, the truss rod access, on the Schecter; the "wheel" style adjustment is an excellent feature, and it avoids removing wood at the neck/headstock joint.

    • @niclastname
      @niclastname 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CL8ON6 Yeah I have a huge issue with knobs that close as well. I spent most of my time since I started, playing a Dean ML where the knobs and switches are WAY out of the way like a les paul etc. I tried to play a Schecter (don't remember the model), where the knob is right up next to the pickup like that and I was nudging it and changing the volume with my picking ALL THE TIME! That's when I started to notice how common that placement is. Look at most strats. They have it so damn close like that, so I guess a lot of people just get used to that from the beginning so it doesn't bother them.
      The funny thing to me is that it's unnecessary and when I look at Schecter's artist models, I noticed that pretty much every single artist has their controls moved out of the way. So I don't know why that's so common like that. The only explanation I've heard is for people that want to do volume swells. I don't hear most people doing volume swells though lol. Plus, they could just get a volume pedal for that.

      I know I'm late but the ibanez sounds SO much better. The schecter sounds muffled especially in high notes because it's compressed. You can always compress in a mix or with a pedal, I don't want that sound coming from the pickup.

      Ibanez used to make very reasonable priced,high-end guitars Made in Japan.
      Sadly it has become so expensive to make guitars in Japan nowadays,MIJ guitars are as expensive as Made in USA models in some cases.Their import series like the ''Premiums'' (Made in Indonesia) are hit or miss,I've seen some which were great and some with horrible fretwork or finishing flaws.Their necks are also an aquired taste,they're build for superfast playing and have very flat fretboards,that's why they're so popular among shred-players,but for rythm stuff and chords they're not so good.
      Schecter's import series,specially the more high-end models made in S.Korea are absolute value for money,same with the Made in Indonesia series. They have either brandname pickups like these Fishman Fluence here or EMG's or Schecter's own,Made in USA passive pickups.(Keep in mind,Schecter was originally a pickup company,so their stock pickups are top.) Their fretwork, necks and neckjoints are great,many models have compound radius fretboards (wider up the neck,flatter the more you go down) and ss-frets,which makes their playabillity superb.
      What makes them also very attractive,they offer fixed bridge and Floyd Rose for most models and also every model is available as a lefthanded version.
      Another great alternative,for rock/metal,are the Charvel Pro Mod Series.

    One of my guitars is a reissue C-1 Classic neckthru, w/ Ducan JB and Jazz pups, beautiful amber quilted maple top, rosewood fretboard, extra jumbo frets with a vine inlay that goes all along the neck. Originally I purchased a 2008 model and had it for good number of years. I could never quite get the intonation as perfect as I thought it should be. About 6 years ago I contacted Schecter and explained what was happening, and asked if there was a fix they could do, because to me it looked like the saddle bridge was not place quite right. I was amazed, and greatly impressed that the rep asked me to send my C-1 in, so that they tech department could take a look at. I said, no problem. I sent it to them. I got a call from them a couple days after the confirmed delivery. The rep told me that the bridge was indeed not place correctly when it was made, and that that is a factory defect. The amazing part? Their amazing warranty. The rep offered me a brand new C-1. However, he explained that my version of the C-1 had been discontinued, but they reissued that guitar, and the only difference is that the new version has an abalone vine inlay instead of the older pearl inlay. No problem I said, I'll take it. They shipped a brand new C-1 and case, and it played and sounded fantastic just like the original. Back in 2008 IIRC the list price was around $800, and I paid around $600. I think Schecter no longer make the C-1 Classic. I'm keeping mine cause it is a fantastic guitar that I use for my Humbucker tones, and it's infinitely better feeling and playing than a 2015 Gibson Les Paul Standard I bought back then. Yes, my C-1 is a better guitar than the LP Standard. The LP looks awesome as it's a classic guitar, but for playability the C-1 wins hands down. Tones are very close, player's choice. I like them both.

    Re binding. The neck binding is a highlight the body binding is more at a level with the lower neck the cream binding may be more to tie in with the wood on the neck than the binding on it as it's visually on the same level. That might explain it.

    Regarding Binding: Presumably the white binding on the neck is to provide higher contrast with the dots, which can be issue under some conditions (speaking from experience). I assume the cream color on the body is because it looks better there... This makes sense to me, functionality where you need it, cosmetic where it does not compromise function.

      Yeah same here I feel old having it called a traditional sound I personally like the thinner sound of the Ibanez, to me that means clarity and the chunkiness of the schecter to me sounds like impeeding how long it could hold a note and there's not a lot of room to improve tone if you like fast metal like me. I've never really cared for Schecter guitars but in this case the Schecter definately wins. If it were against a RG and a tremolo was in play the Ibanez would win. Interesting and Great Vid! Put my best headphones on through DAC to here these, the BlueTooth laptop speakers weren't cuttin it. Have to say things always sound different between being Live and once Recorded. Listened a few times and concluded the Fishman's sounded better, more defined across the board. Chords were terrific, able to hear each string and nothing getting lost. Still the Dimarzio's have that tone so familiar, it feels like home. Reason I was surprised and had to listen a few times, was hard not to be prejudiced by something one knows well (Ibanez/Dimarzio Combo).
    Never owned a Schecter, came close but always decide on something else. Sounds odd but always got this voice in my head saying "Really good parts, feels good, looks good, sounds good ..... Why so cheap compared to _________", as if there had to be something wrong. Yup Crazy! This Video may have Sold me on one. That's one heck of a guitar, prefer the neck and body over the thinner Ibanez. too. Very Sweet Guitar!!
    The Ibanez is stunning from the front! Anyone know if it is a Laminate top or an actual hunk of quilted Maple? Tis gorgeous!!. As far as the question of White binding on the neck whereas the body it cream. Simple answer, COST. Can make a pile of necks and all can be put of various coloured bodies with white neck binding, cheaper overall as production doesn't have to stop and change colours (also white is a fractionally cheaper too when purchased in HUGE quantities. Plus it can be an extra bonus having colour matched binding only on a Custom Shop Model.
    Really good Vid Darrell. Both guitars were shown very well. The Nut on the Shecter is an Ernie Ball Compensated Nut, found it on a spec sheet. Guess that one is a draw.

    The only things that matters in the end are: Amp, Cab and Hands. Guitars are just signal senders, there is no any difference in sound between those two. Appearance, comfort yes. Any effects on sound ( No). Buy good cab, good amp. Take a piece of wood with pick-ups and strings , and it will sound good.
