i don't think so. The slausons, gladiators etc. disbanded and turned black panthers I believe (not quite sure though) . And the Avenues came out in the end of the panther era. Monson tells stories of him accompanying Bunchy Carter to meetings with Ron Karenga etc. So the Panthers were already out, and on their way out when the avenues formed

They just moved to California and took on their new environment with a strong mindset that they been had. A lot of these dudes had already had a poverty criminal type mindset in the South like robbing stores and fighting other young guys, but moved to a city where it was heavily gang infested so they had to adapt because gangs weren’t in Southern states and cities until the mid-late 80s. The South has always had a criminal element and cities like Los Angeles Chicago Detroit was flooded with people who were from those states. There's no record of anyone by that name awarded a MOH in the Vietnam war. That's a very rare award, the highest of awards given out. Only given out for the most courageous acts during combat. So it's a big deal.

I am aware that the award is a big deal but had no idea people would call me out on this. The info comes from his obituary.

But it's something people do not take lightly at all. Most people who earned the medal of honor never live to see the award. As it normally involves sacrificing your self in battle for the sake of your comrades.
I know you have good intentions, but as a journalist fact checking is a must. Especially when you're talking about something of that magnitude.
