The great migration of black people in the US have changed the world's music, food, language, fashion, and culture. As a native of Mississippi, I deeply appreciate how California embraces their southern roots.

do u ever think if the great migration never happened, we could be really running the south...i think it was set up to look good early on and then pull the rug from under us

    • @torreyt948

@@matrix2030x ther were black legislators and thriving communities in the south after the Civil War during Reconstruction, but the Klan was started to terrorize good people, and make them leave. The California migration was so recent as opposed to the east coast migration, many people from the west coast are moving back south as a result of skyrocketing cost of living. If we are smart about it, we can build political power in the near future.

@@makingmoney8470 cmon mane, are u tripping, the vast majority of black people in the US were transported from West and Central Africa to Virginia or South Carolina. Sure it's possible there may have been co nact between Africans and Native Americans before European exploration, but anything beyond that is debatable. Please don't discount the existence of the natives to this land, you are doing the work of white supremacists when you push that narrative

Started do wop group called Majestic Boys in 66'. When they started "Westside Apple Caps" in 67' they made Eddie Watts leader of that. 69' they decided change the name ACB to the Brims at his house on 68th n Bonsallo in his room original five Eddie, Kenny, Bear, Domino, Twin.

It was 2 other's there at that meeting as told to me by Twin 1( Ralph Kelley was Twin2RIP): Larry j and this other guy I just heard about this other dude, but have a recent picture of him attending Bear's Homegoing in San Bernadino 2 years ago. I have to get his name from the Sista who knew all of them around 66, (she knew them all, Lee, Felix, Hawk, and whoever else was hanging at the shack on 68th Bonsallo Although I thought it was 65th.) they were sandbox friends as she calls it. The Teen post was on corner of 68th & Hoover right at the light. Let me see if I can contact her right now before I forget. This dude had torn shoes back in the day or they were too tight from being passed down and I guess something special was going on at church or school but this dude didn't have a decent pair so he said he wasn't going: Well Bear aka Larry (RIP) got this dude a pair of new shoes. This dude never forgot that and shared this at Bear's Homegoing, crying. No everyone wasn't always heartless but life eventually changed a lot of their hearts and minds. Let me get that name. I'm back: Willie B is his name and it was their graduation from Jr High. If you knew what you typed, you know they were on the scene too. Only ones living out that crew is Kenny, Twin1, Larry J and Domino. Peace

We everywhere the South is the new migration pattern but it’s weird bc most almost 60 percent of Foundational Black Americans still born and live in the South. Nothing like the South and it’s also weird how some southern cities/states correlate the cities/states that Black folk moved to during the Great Migration. In example, Houston OKC Tulsa Dallas Little Rock Shreveport Baton Rouge and New Orleans all have similarities to L.A and the Bay as well as Midwest areas but these were the main states that migrated to the West. Also, how Mississippi Memphis Nashville Alabama(Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, etc) have main ties similarities to Midwest areas like Ohio Chicago(Illinois) Detroit and Flint(Michigan) Indiana Milwaukee, Missouri(St Louis, Kansas City). Then you had the more black Eastern coastal migration from with people from Georgia the Carolinas Florida and Virginia having ties and similarities to Northeast cities and states like Philly NYC D.C Baltimore Connecticut Boston(Mass) Pittsburgh Buffalo, Newark, Camden NJ New Jersey in general has a lot of Black Americans in a lot of, also a lot of other cities and towns in this region as were other regions of the country. The USA is truly our home weather we like it or not. We all have our own individual cultures based on our region it’s amazing how we migrated and the routes people took

Awhhh Kev Mac, I just saw the one you did on Lil Kountry. I wish you had told me why you called so we could have gotten the facts a lil more straight. There was no 59Brims when Lil K moved here from Texas, only LA Brims. Yes they were some Untouchables but I'm not sure if they came after Lil K death or not. Untouchable would have been Suga Bear & some other's and 5-9 came around 74 too. The picture you showing with our son & 3 guys Lil Kountry was already dead when that picture was taken, that was 1973 son's 2nd birthday. That's Baby Kountry on left and 2 other Brims. But hey good trying. when I met Lil Kountry in late 69, they were already calling LA Brims, they were LA Brims when I met them and that was before Lil Kountry late 68 or early 69.

I tried calling you back it said the number was disconnected. The only question I had was when did the Brims get the name. Elgin clearly said in 1972 they changed the name from Apple Hats. It’s hard to nail down names and name changes when the leader and his younger homegirl are completely in disagreement. So at that point I lean on newspapers and Brims doesn’t show up until early 1972.

Also… in the interview with Elgin he says they was never LA Brims I just refer to them as La Brims to distinguish the originals from San Diego and New York.

@@KevMacVideos, all I can tell you I don't know when Elgin started hanging around but I met him when I was going with Lil Kountry. I had the baby 2-5-1971, and we were already Brims. Before I met Lil Kountry they was saying Brims, so I was saying it too. I was going up to the park and been to the shack on 65th & Bonsallo and the Teen Post. I really didn't know them that well when they were Apple Hats. I was only aware of them and that name faded fast.

@@KevMacVideos, well just a suggestion Brotha Kev called New York and San Diego La Brim not the LA Brims and call Brims who they are: LA Brims. Appreciate you in doing a great job keeping all information together, especially since everyone has a different point of view on what happened and what it was like.
