Wow! I haven't seen such a good back and forth for such a long time. Every play was excellent and the best you could do. Each player was amazing at micro intensive work and honestly it came down to a few things but that is the best kind of game.
Yup. Incidentally, that's the only reason I could even remember that particular character's name. If he didn't share it with WHFB Malekith, he would have just be 'The Dark Elf guy.'

“Lokir and the Death Hag” is still winning my unofficial competition for best Dark Elf 90s band name, but “Malakeith and the Manticore” is a solid effort.
That clutch Prey at the end was beautiful - saved the Glade Lord from the monster double team and it hung Malekith out to dry for a nasty volley right after it expired.
Also lucky timing - IIRC, Prey doesn't prevent vertical movement, so Malekith could have potentially dodged up if he'd been caught on the ground. That would have saved him from a full volley. (Malekith looked like he was a mere second or two away from landing properly, so instead it just forced him up and held him there.)

I loved watching the D.E player change his cavalry to a thin line to break through the front line but got thwarted by the W.E player using theirs to screen, such a good game fantastic micro by the W.E player. As always great commentary, thank you.
Icepower went all in trying to counterpick waywatchers. 8 silver shielded infatry units, triple shielded DR, triple harpies and a harvester unit. This is one of better games you've casted recently, because pick wise, DE gambled. This build is an autoloose against dryad rush, but it is really good against kite. The fact that Dacder ran into it with triple WW and still won is damn impressive.
WW is the strongest build for WE. If Icepower didn't try and counter this build he would lose. I think you have it backward. Net+ waywatchers is the sauce.
@@fanaticpharaoh6689 Undoubtedly. But WE mellee rush exists, and it works mostly because of opponents overcompensating for WW, wich is what Icepower did in this game. So while WW+Prey build in general might be stronger than Helm of discord rush, in this game helm rush would just demolish DE, there isnt a single unit that can trade with driads even semi-decently. It was an all-in anti-kite build. The fact that WE player managed to beat it with triple WW is a testament of his skill.

@@ivannadtochiev1849 I wouldn't call it overcompensation at all. Malekith and a manticore supplying terror routs is actually very good agaisnt dryad rush. Dark riders have 40 CB, so they can also cycle charge through your own infantry as much as you want - wild riders cost 1100 so there's no way WE can afford to countercharge all of your dark riders. Plus, 8 very cost effective infantry units will beat 5 dryads for sure. WE infantry is trash, period. In my experience, this build does better agaisnt dryad rush and tree blob than WW spam.
GGs! As soon as i saw Icepower in command of DE i asumed he would claim victory...but that MU showed the power of healing when in good hands. Earthblood casting was just superb, always targeting the riders which finally got the game . So congrats to Dacder! Healing is just a pain in the ass in this game. If you do not take it seriously it will ge rid of all your steam and drain you into losing situations. I, personally, would like to see a rework of healing mechanics that could benefit somehow those factions that do not have acces to them. Starting for freaking Alarielle Star of Avelorn or whatever pointy ears pronounce it.
This was so well-played on both fronts. I'm not even sure what either side could have done better!! A little salty that the Dark Elves terror-routed toward the middle there, if that hadn't happened it would have been a closer game for sure. Makes me think Dark Elves could have built differently...but not sure what they could have changed...

I like the Dark Elf build against Wood Elves; bringing such a wide army with so many cheap troops lets you overrun them, making sure all your units have shields means they're a total waste of missile fire, enough Dark Riders to catch Waywatchers going out wide, and the flying units to lock them in if they fall back to a defensive line. Big points for the WE player for just making extremely efficient use of their pieces.
Was a super fun game, but a bad matchup. I much prefer it when my opponents ask me before they ask someone to cast but I guess nothing can be done about such things. I sorta embarrased myself again here.
maybe a little rude to not ask but honestly its not embarrassing, its easy in hindsight to point out peoples mistakes in the match but you both played really well
Fighting Wood Elves always sucks, because they basically go "you can't use half the roster," and there's nothing you can do about it. I am curious about the Harpies though, because I'd think they would always just kind of die before getting anything done...
I think I understand how you feel about this pretty well and I agree that an Opponent should always ask before sending in a Replay, yet still there is nothing to be ashamed of, was a high level match and I would always assume that your Opponent thinks the same Way. Most of us Players never really get into TWW PvP as we simply don't have the Micromanagement Skills to do so. And I guess most People understand that. If he is not doing so already - maybe Turin should ask the Players who send in Replays if both Opponents agreed on showing it in Public. There are some Videos out there of another Game where I played in PVP and I'm not looking too good in there ;)

I don`t see how Empire is any less micro intensive than Greenskins. Also, it`s not only about micro. Greenskins are the most straightforward faction to play properly. Most of their units have a simple concept.

he lost in the first few seconds. shoulda rushed with everything fast as possible and flanked with horses soon as possible. try to keep ranger thingys from getting space to shoot from safety.
what wasn't honorable? this DE player is prolly one of the worst out there, he instantly fed away all 3 harpies for nothing he used 1 breath attack the entire game as i saw and it was on the lord, he did absoutely fuck all with his cav, malkith used his spell on literally 3 models of waywatchers wasted all the soul leechs for fucking nothing at the start of the game. most people would beat this guy i'm sure reguardless of faction

he used them pretty poorly. u usually keep them far out of range until late games and then can just stay on routing units and occupy other weak targets.
they are better against units with non 360 field of fire, but also they ate precious ammo, which is pretty huge considering those volleys could have taken 10-20% of malekeith's hp. instead of shooting at an expensive unit, he's wasting ammo and potentially losing precious models on a low gold unit, making harpies a very cost effective meat shield.
Prey of Anath Rema is so powerfull, roots in general are but especially on the wood elves. It doesnt even need to be used to zone the enemy lord out of any and all engagements, making Malekith a waste of gold almost for the entire match.
I honestly think people could play around it a bit better, since if someone has just used it to stop a harass unit from reaching their waywatchers, you have 90 seconds where you can go wild without any threat of it. That being said, you can't really land a dragon against a waywatcher build even if prey is on cooldown since, unless you get lucky with animations, the second you land you can't dodge anymore and will get pincushioned just as badly as if you got netted. I think a dragon is just too risky to bring against Wood Elves, just like against Vampire Coast.
@@Eche24 The problem is, even with Prey, wood elves are one of the weakest factions. They're better than Chaos, Brettonia, and Dwarves, but not much else. Take that away and they're probably the single worst faction in the game since now their one gimmick can just be dodged, meaning they don't invalidate SEMs, while still having their weakness to cavalry and wide builds. I've seen plenty of WE games where the opponent messes up and they get their lord sniped, but the wood elves still lose hard because the person brought a lord that's cheap enough that you can afford to lose them (unlike Malekith on his dragon) and took advantage of the fact that monster/character sniping is the only thing Wood Elves are really all that good at. It's easy to get good value out of 3 waywatchers when your opponent brings a single target that's worth as much as they are.

The WE player had to be flawless to eak out a win on leadership. One misclick or jam up of cav and its over. I really feel they need help. They never win handily

Thats way too close given their comparative play. I don't mean victories should be sweeping. Just that if any other faction had played this well it would not have been so tight a victory window.
the we vs de matchup is really biased and the we have way too much advantages. it's not a good game , icepower tried his heart out in an almost unwinable matchup
Dunno man. Have you ever tried protecting your backline against so much fast cav plus 3 harpies? .. that's some seriously hard work . Tbf I don't think ice power synchronized his rush enough which made it a little easier on the WE player . But overall it was very impressive defensive skirmish play
Not really, it was a perfectly winnable game especially based on army selection. The problem was that he stacked multiple units of infantry onto a single enemy spears when he tried to do a push. Had he rotated those around to support the dark riders in their engagements he could have compromised his backline. The harpies also had not business fighting wild riders in 1v1s and basically never went for the waywatchers when the wild riders were occupied. When you bring such a wide army you want to force the enemy to choose what they answer to, by piece mealing his pushes he played right into WE's strenght.
8:00 the manticore wasn't running away from the battlefied, she was chasing the spellcaster of life, who actualy fled the battlefield

When the WE lost the caster and waywatchers had almost no ammo I thought it was game over. That was awesome.

I believe Greenskins are the easiest faction for newbies. Definitely do not start with Undead or Elf factions.
Greenskins are very micro intensive tho... Maybe empire because they have a wide roster, similar to older total war games

I honestly think people could play around it a bit better, since if someone has just used it to stop a harass unit from reaching their waywatchers, you have 90 seconds where you can go wild without any threat of it. That being said, you can't really land a dragon against a waywatcher build even if prey is on cooldown since, unless you get lucky with animations, the second you land you can't dodge anymore and will get pincushioned just as badly as if you got netted. I think a dragon is just too risky to bring against Wood Elves, just like against Vampire Coast.
@@Eche24 The problem is, even with Prey, wood elves are one of the weakest factions. They're better than Chaos, Brettonia, and Dwarves, but not much else. Take that away and they're probably the single worst faction in the game since now their one gimmick can just be dodged, meaning they don't invalidate SEMs, while still having their weakness to cavalry and wide builds. I've seen plenty of WE games where the opponent messes up and they get their lord sniped, but the wood elves still lose hard because the person brought a lord that's cheap enough that you can afford to lose them (unlike Malekith on his dragon) and took advantage of the fact that monster/character sniping is the only thing Wood Elves are really all that good at. It's easy to get good value out of 3 waywatchers when your opponent brings a single target that's worth as much as they are.

The WE player had to be flawless to eak out a win on leadership. One misclick or jam up of cav and its over. I really feel they need help. They never win handily

@@steelbear2063 i mean that when you outplay someone by so much it should be reflected in the result. The WE player had perfect execution and won on his like 3 volleys and a terror route. Thats way too close given their comparative play. I don't mean victories should be sweeping. Just that if any other faction had played this well it would not have been so tight a victory window.

the we vs de matchup is really biased and the we have way too much advantages. it's not a good game , icepower tried his heart out in an almost unwinable matchup
Dunno man. Have you ever tried protecting your backline against so much fast cav plus 3 harpies? .. that's some seriously hard work . Tbf I don't think ice power synchronized his rush enough which made it a little easier on the WE player . But overall it was very impressive defensive skirmish play
Not really, it was a perfectly winnable game especially based on army selection. The problem was that he stacked multiple units of infantry onto a single enemy spears when he tried to do a push. Had he rotated those around to support the dark riders in their engagements he could have compromised his backline. The harpies also had not business fighting wild riders in 1v1s and basically never went for the waywatchers when the wild riders were occupied. When you bring such a wide army you want to force the enemy to choose what they answer to, by piece mealing his pushes he played right into WE's strenght.
I sort of agree. WE have net and DE doesn't have strong heals.
