Thanks for sharing! Great shots of the bus interior! I still think they should build a "bridge" and then put the bus back in it's original location. The whole purpose and meaning behind the Chris McCandless story lies not only in the bus itself, but in the location where he survived in the wild for months as well. I don't understand why it is not being taken seriously as a historic landmark for future generations to come and visit.
I hitched all over Alaska, rode the freight train out of Denali back in 1988. When I read this book I realized that I had done the same search for myself as Chris had in the Alaskan wilderness. I canoed the Yukon river as well, it was the greatest thing that I ever did and it defined me for the rest of my life. I was 24 as well, no matter what they do to me they can never take this away from me. I went into the wild but by the grace of God I came back again.
....look...as a camper, hiker, survivalist adventure seeker myself...I understand their intent...but let me tell you ~ This will not prevent seekers...from still going to that exact location...and setting up camp...this is almost certain...." one cannot remove history from its origin or birth place...the echo and memory...always remains " Amen !
It will not prevent all attempts, but it will prevent a few people from trying. Putting it in a museum will likely draw in people that might otherwise attempt a visit. They can be tourists in a more friendly environment. I'm a hiker/camper/climber myself. I'm not sure how I feel about the allure associated with this bus. It's a monument to being out of your element. I'm not sure that's a good thing.
The bus is gone but the area is still a good camping spot! Get your self in shape and camp out at the site. Enjoy nature, but do it wisely not as a pilgrimage.
I am so glad that we were able to share that adventure with you guys as I know I never would have been able to go out there. Thanks for the update and happy journeys.
This hurts me to my heart 😞 I really hope they preserve it so more people can enjoy it and have that wonderful connection you had. I feel like I just lost a friend
I went there many times when i lived in Alaska. Its a shame that people who weren't prepared for the Alaska wilderness helped with its removal. I hope it finds a good home!!!
Wow I to understand why they did it. I am at loss for words. I got emotional just watching the bus swinging from the helicopter. I hope they do something special with the bus so people can still honour Chris’s journey. I am also so grateful you got to accomplish your dream and you shared with us all. Much love and appreciation to you and all . Thanks for sharing your stories and I hope there are more adventures for us all. ❤️❤️
Relieved to hear the 'shocking news' that the bus was moved, as I first thought it might have been damaged or even destroyed. Hope they find the perfect resting place where Chris and his story can be visited and remembered. Enjoyed "Going North" so much, and so glad you and Justin took the trip and told your own story, and did the video for the rest of us to enjoy. As you said, understandable but still sad. Thank you for the news.
I was deeply saddened to see the Magic Bus being lifted in to the air but I too understand. It would be wrong on many levels to destroy it, not least the fact it was Chris's final resting place. I know it was a spiritual journey for you and Justin and that emotion was conveyed to your audience. When you finally reached the bus I was overcome and cried. I am happy you both got to go there as I feel any journey to see it now will not be the same as the whole atmosphere will have changed. Rest in peace Chris and to all those who lost their lives on their journey.
Maybe the bus can get wheels and a engine. To keep spreading Chris's love of travel and compassion. Chris is an angel. Bus needs to visit the rest of the world. Hugs and love..
I was sad that the bus was removed, but understand it needed to be done. I wish I could have visited it while it was still there. I’m guessing a few people may still visit the location regardless.
I know you have a connection with bus 142 and Chris but you will always have that. You know in your heart it was the best thing to do to save other peoples lives. Yes a story was told and a wonderful one however the bus belonged to Alaska and they felt it was necessary to move it. Y’all have shared with the world your journey and that is the best part for me. I have not seen, read or heard of this bus until I stumbled on y’all’s youtube channel. Thank you so much for footage that will be around forever.
A total of two people have died going to or from the bus in all the years it was there (not including McCandless). People die climbing mountains, swimming, hiking, and all other things routinely. 15 rescues in a dozen years. Much less than many other mountain climbs entail. Oregon's Mount Hood just for one example; At least 130 have died climbing the mountain, with around 50 rescue missions per year! 300 have died on Everest...and on and on. Yet 2 total deaths and 15 total rescues were too much? The bus should have stayed!
They could have kept the bus in its spot and just build a bridge over that river to make it easy for the visitors. Christopher's spirit will live on anyway
No that is NOT an argument it isn't about numbers silly it's about LIVES, needless loss of life including Chris's. Why on earth would you want more people to go out there and continue to DIE so you people can have a warm fuzzy at that bus? That's CRAZY you want MORE families to go through the loss of a loved one like Chris's sister? The fact of the matter is NOBODY would even go to the bus if it weren't for the book and movie. Nobody would care PERIOD you DON'T NEED to turn the bus into an idol just go reread to book and rewatch the movie. That bus has been broke down there for 60 years, it's in a harsh unforgiving WILDERNESS with GRIZZLY BEARS walking around and people have been attacked NOBODY'S talking about that. The locals do get to have a say about the resources spent in THEIR STATE and THEY WANTED THE BUS GONE end of discussion. Chris and all the other non-natives to Alaska had no business going out there unprepared in the first place! This kid may as well have just committed suicide, as go out there with ONLY a bag of rice, and no weapons or hunting skills.
@@DiligoBarba My goodness...do you ever leave your house? Or are you too scared to walk outside. Do you wear a helmet 24/7 incase you should trip and fall? Do you live underneath your bed afraid of the world? NEWSFLASH: PEOPLE GET KILLED EVERY DAY ON ADVENTURES THEY CHOOSE TO TRY! I raced cars my entire life, spent a good portion of my life over 200 mph. I fly planes. I boat. I water ski...and many other things. So do millions of others! Good thing you live in modern times, you would never have made it in life 100-150 years ago. What a sad, meaningless, shallow, scared life you must live...sad...
@@DiligoBarba just like other historic spots around the world and the stories behind them. Do you think people will fly to Cambodia to see a place full of skulls and named Killing Field for fun? The fact that there have been so many people coming to that bus just proves that Chris's journey meant something to them. Of course, there were people who weren't well-prepared for it, just like Chris. But at the end of the day, it's people's choices and the trip takes a spiritful part of their life. It's very easy to destroy things but extremely hard to build them up. It's not the bus that's gone, it's Chris and all of the meaningful things about it. Instead of removing it, perhaps just look at the dangerous matters and put on warnings, signs, rules, even laws about going there. I mean, economically, it could have been a good thing for tourism for a certain group of people.
On one hand I feel saddened by this news. It is as if this site has been desecrated. I truly hope they find a meaningful and safe spot to make the bus more accessible to those who wish to visit. I truly hope a nearby museum will step up and want to add this very sad tale to the history of Alaska.
The site was a GARBAGE DUMP. Piles of debris from hundreds of entitled city noobs who'd go up there for a 'special moment' and then act like a baboon in a pig sty. The magic was gone. Over. Done.
@@SpreadingtheMuse and an awful lot of rubbish was from locals, look at the rubbish in a lot of vids and you will see lots of empty food cans. Who carries tins of food on a hike, you'd be crazy to take the extra weight on a hike like that. I think youll find it was a mixture of both lazy hikers and locals who visit in their 4x4's and ATV's.
I understand that the bus was a huge part of the attraction in going there, but after some deep thought about it, I realised it's not about the bus, it's about experiencing what he experienced on the journey there. Sure, it will take some of the pressure off in going the whole way to where the bus was, but I would still like to hike a part of it to experience the area for myself and put myself in Chris's shoes. I hope that they move it to somewhere on a hiking trail so people can still experience the bus in a similar way, I would still like to hike to it, leave a note and get my picture on the seat at the front. I understand why it would be put into a museum but I think it would be wasted there. Sending love to everyone whos heart broke a little after hearing this news x
I just finished the series and it was fantastic! I laugjed and cried. What a wonderful blessing that you were able to see it when you did. Great job documenting your journey.
Truly appreciate this update, and both your journey to document this experience of being on the bus and honoring Chris as many people have is very meaningful with the utmost sincerity. I am reading " The Wild Truth by" Carine Mc Candless, and learned of this video today, this afternoon, and while looking at family photos in the book, Chris is with peace, I sense this with this move of the bus is shocking to many, people go unprepared as nit fully knowing what they are getting into with the elements ,it is a wise decision for people to honor his safety in legacy in full agreement. Powerful and a true honor to see this!! Much gratitude!
Wow thank you for the update on the bus I hope they do exactly what you said persevere protect and honor the bus I have not been able to see the bus but have always felt a strong connection to Chris.
I just read this news a little while again and immediately thought of you and Justin and Going North about your trip there. I'm so glad you were able to make the trip.
This is a shock, almost like your magic car getting hit by a few more deer...wow, but so glad you were able to get there before it was removed.....mixed feelings on this for sure, thanks for taking all of us along on your journey.
They could have kept the bus in its spot and just build a bridge over that river to make it easy for the visitors. Christopher's spirit will live on anyway
I was sad to see the news this morning. I was blessed to visit Magic Bus 142 in July 2014 with my son. Amazing trip, amazing place, and a very emotional visit there for me. Indescribable feeling being there. Today, a sad day to see it go and taken somewhere it wasn't meant to be...
Wow. I am all the more grateful for the beautiful film you made about your trip to Alaska, with that magical episode at The Bus. It was truly magical and whatever happens now, we have that. Thanks! 🙏🇳🇱
I can't begin to describe how much I have enjoyed your Going North series. I'm around two months younger than Chris McCandless would be today had he survived his great Alaskan adventure. I moved to Alaska around ten years ago, but sadly, have not explored much of it. I've spent all my time working, and what I have not spent working, I have wasted. What a shame that is. Your videos, and the re-discovery of the Chris McCandless story have reminded me why I came here in the first place. Thank You for sharing your experience. P.S. It saddens me that bus 142, The Magic Bus has been moved. You and your friend Justin are so lucky to have been able to experience it in its original location. I would have loved to go and visit the bus there and spend a night or two there. My understanding is that they plan on putting the bus on display at UAF's museum of the North. I am still going to go see it one day, but I know it won't be the same. Thanks again for sharing. Even after all these years, the Chris McCandless story remains one of the most compelling that I have ever heard.
Jerry, thanks so much for your kind words and your reflection of Chris and the bus. I still treasure my time there, it was definitely something I will never forget. I remember every part of that bus, and the area surrounding it as it is all etched in my mind. Someday I will get back to see the bus at UAF.
I am really sad, I hope that this bus take it in a museum or in a place that people can see it without risk personally I am in Algeria north of Africa and I would like to see it in front of me - Rip Christopher McCandless and Bus 142
Headlines : “bus caused a danger to tourists” No, tourist took it upon themselves to put themselves in danger. Plus now people will just go visit the spot where the bus was. And now they will just have no shelter.
@@ParklandFilms Plus from other videos it seems there was an awful amount of trash being left out there. I believe some was hauled away but almost looked like they needed a dump truck up there to clean the surrounding area up.
Never forget: It has been your journey to the bus that made the day. It also has been the journey that made Chris' day. That in the end is what counts.
Moving the bus, while sad for sentimental reasons, makes sense from a safety perspective. The silver lining is that now the bus can be seen by and influence thousands of people and be preserved in a way that tells Chris' story to a larger audience. RIP Chris McCandless. Your spirit continues to inspire.
I was deeply saddened by this , it was my number 1 destination. Was just waiting for my son to be old enough to go with me. Thanks for at least showing me what it was like to be there in person . I appreciate your channel
Wow. This makes me want to cry. I just found your page now as I learned of the bus’s flight. Thanks for posting. Thanks for you homage to Chris. Just wow.
@@bbs2183 They could have kept the bus in its spot and just build a bridge over that river to make it easy for the visitors. Sad, but Christopher's spirit will live on anyway
I am just discovering this . This breaks my heart I really like Christopher's story ever sense I watch the movie I will never forget his story and his legend . Thanks for the news although it it is shocking and sad .
My friends and I were out there back in 2015 , TH-cam into the wild CT boys. Crazy to see it go, kinda sad. It looks like it has taken a lot of heavy vandalism since we were there. Windows all smashed out and stuff moved around and missing. What an adventure though that I’ll never forget .
It’s the 30th of June 2021 here in Wellington NZ just seeing this video, truely sad to see it being moved it won’t be the same now. I didn’t even know it happened, with everything that’s going on right now. Thanks for tryout videos. 😔💔
I didn't know about any of this until watching 'Into the Wild' last week. Then I found the bus existed and had not changed, and ppl were going there. Then I watched documentaries. And now this happens. I don't think Chris would have wanted others to die visiting the bus. If it's preserved, protected, and more accessible then I think this is a good thing and helps promote the store and learnings that come from it. It preserves the bus, and the memory. Still super strange to see it being moved and airlifted, and takes away a certain magic that's felt by everything being unchanged for so long. You were lucky to have visited and experienced it before it was moved. To sit where Chris sat, lay where he lay, see the landscape he saw, cross the river he crossed etc.
I wonder what it cost to remove the bus in comparison to what it would cost to make a safer route to the bus. Lives are important and I'm sure Chris wouldn't want lives lost to his memory. I also wonder if Chris's family had some say in the matter. I'm so glad we have "Going North" to look back on and as often as we like. I read the book and saw the movie but never had the desire to go there so I might not fully understand those that do, although the story did grab my heart. I do see how shocked and anxious you are feeling, God Bless you! Thank you for the update!
as point of reference the average bridge is $5 million, most are small and in more hospitable areas. I'm sure every one thinks a standard highway bridge would be overkill however the foundation for that river requires massive costs. similar attempts in our Ouachita and elsewhere show the bridges are lost every flood. So my guess is $25 million minimum. That river will flood and take down practically all structures
U guys was lucky to go and see the bus just in time and now it's gone I don't even have the words to say guys I think it should been left alone thanks for the videos on the bus
Glad you were able to see the magic bus before it was moved. I did some research that the bus was flown to Alaska Universaty for restoration and put on display there.
I am just like you with a lost for words, I hope this is a good thing to make it safe for tourists, But his soul will remains in his resting spot..... The bus was so monumental to who Chris was as a great man.....
So sorry to hear that I really enjoyed going there as you took us there too in a way, I enjoyed the journey it was beautiful seeing the things you showed us, I really hope they keep the bus safe too, thank you again for the ride, look woreard to the next adventure,
I just found out about the bus being moved today. My emotions have gone full circle. At first, I was incensed. Then, I accepted the wisdom of moving it to prevent accidents and deaths to those who were making the pilgrimage to it. It isn't "gone", it has just been moved to a safer spot where, hopefully, people who feel a connection to Chris and the bus will have a safer pilgrimage to it. Then, I had an epiphany. One of the last things Chris wrote was a note begging for help to make it out of the wilderness. Chris never did, but now the bus that was just as stuck in the wilderness as Chris has. And, in a way, it kind of feels like Chris has finally made it out by proxy. And something inside me wants to celebrate.
While it appears to have been a "secret mission" the local Denali Borough officials held a public meeting in March 2020 and passed an official resolution to move the bus at that meeting with the assistance of state and federal agencies. www.denaliborough.org/vertical/sites/%7B63112C6F-13FC-4147-831D-8F3F0E33EC53%7D/uploads/Res_20-04_The_Bus.pdf
Good find! I had no idea they met and discussed moving the bus, but I'm not sure if it was a public meeting as word would have spread quickly about the bus being moved (possibly). Regardless, this is good knowledge, thanks for posting!
@@ParklandFilms It was an open public meeting. I doubt that they advertised it beyond the local community, since they both had jurisdiction and were the taxpayers absorbing the cost of rescues of people stranded trying to get to it. Newlywed Veranika Nikanava drowning in 2019 trying to get to it appears to have been the last straw.
What a twist to the story. Unthinkable, senseless removal of the symbol which drew ppl from all over the world. Sad. The access to the Bus should have been addressed in the first place. Ppl will come to this place regardless bc it's a spiritual journey. Thank God you made it over there for all of us who weren't able. Chris's story will never end bc it's about our own searching and it touches our hearts.
This has been one of my goals to make the hike. I can but the bus would have been what im going to see. Last place Chris was. Its a shame. But im sure people will still take the trip .
I appreciate you guys in your emotional investment into the whole thing and it wasn't nice until you went out there and cleaned it up some people wouldn't like that but I thought it was very nice to do that you guys are okay
I hope the bus is preserved so people can still visit it. Only it is not only the bus itself that is the draw but also the location. To bad they could not have developed a way to get to the bus safer.
it was my dream hiking to magic bus where it is. it is bad news for my bucket list. hope they ll put the bus at a right place so people can visit properly.
THANK YOU For making this video, for taking us all to th Magic BUS in such a SACRED BEAUTIFUL way (& in hindsight a very timely manner), but most of all; for being such an AMAZINGLY AWESOME Earthling! Gratitude and Appreciation for All you've given, sacrificed & created! Sending Big Love, Many Mercies and All of the Blessings from Northern Alberta Canada 🇨🇦 Hoping you and yours are Healthy, Happy & Safe during these unprecedented times of suffering, struggle & strife ✌🙏💚 No, I don't think the bus should have been moved. The excuse makes no logical sense, people will still want to go to the spot.😢
Gracias ☺️
Greetings from Clay County, Missouri, USA! I just saw that on the news; Came here to comment. looks like I'm a day late , again. Didn't feel right giving bad news an h, but did anyway. Thanks again for taking us along 327 h Not sure I'm going to make it up this year or not thanks again Ryan take care my friend
That bus has been there for almost 60 years.I know why they moved the bus people died getting there also the trash left behind by people.I hope the state sets the bus up for people to visit safely
No! So heartbreaking! Thank you so much for updating us! And thank you for making the Going North series, I will cherish it even more now. Oh, I can't believe it, I'm at a loss for words. :(
Wow, shocker. Like you I get why they did it. But it does seem a shame. So glad you got there before they moved it. Wherever it ends up it won't be the same. I feel not just the bus itself was special but where the bus was placed seemed special too.
Also, both of you have to know, and must always know it in your heart, that Chris was with you every second of that whole Adventure no matter where you went! It wasn't so much that you went there and felt his spirit there, as much as it was he was with you going there and he was with you when you left there because he enjoyed the closure as every other person that came there knowing in their own way, why he was out there in the first place. They knew how sad it was that he wasn't able to get back and get the proper care to get the berries out of his belly. But he knows! He is safe! He is alive in another Realm and will never die! As my younger brother a wonderful drummer, died in a car wreck from somebody else's bad driving! That driver lived! My brother and I were close he was 19 I was 21. And he has visited me. In dreams more real than reality itself. He's hugged me in my dreams and I have awakened feeling I was hugged more genuinely than any hugs I've experienced on this Earth. That's the truth of the human spirit. Chris is.. absolutely no pun intended, in heaven, feeling Joy and peace and excitement looking forward to meeting you and meeting all of those people he would have never met otherwise. You guys just have to know that. And believe it. The negativity on this Earth doesn't need any help. :-) and it's so much easier to let it all go to the most powerful energy that exists. Then kick back and feel the peace. Because worry is an absolute waste of time and it usually doesn't even come into play anyway. You met the bus with Chris. Chris accompanied you through your whole trip. That's why it went the way it did! Miraculously! Not to mention the excitement, the adrenaline the hilarity and absolute camaraderie between the three of you. I love you and all those that love Chris. I love my brother and I know I will see him and those hugs will continue, never ending
I do hope they preserve it in some way. But, I doubt visiting it out of context will ever be the same experience. I'm glad you guys got to visit the bus and share your experience with us.
I think that'ss why he leaved society, it's cruel and cold. Especially governments. Damm these hikers who doesn't look for their lives. They all saw the movie, read the book, but have comitted the same mistake. Because of 'em, I'm never going to have the emotion of being there. REST IN PEACE, CHRIS! You're finally going back home!
Sad to hear that the bus has been moved but I can understand why if people are dying literally to get there. I really hope that his family were consulted before this was done and that they will be making the decisions about it's future.
I dont know if youll be able to see this comment. But i hope someday youll read this and response back. Just last week i watched the movie into the wild and started knowing Chris through videos, articles, comments. And after that i started searching about the bus until i watched your video. Your video and justins video and even those videos of people who went there. The feelings the your felt when you went there is what i felt after i watched the movie and while watching the your videos. And i just cant wait to feel that again when The time comes for me to visit the bus. Actually i already planned it with my friend. That a right after this pandemic and traveling is allowed we will go and visit the bus and we call it the adventure of a lifetime. And today i woke with this news. I saw the author of the book post about it. And until now its 5pm i cannot eat or drink water because of this news. I feel really bad and sad. I’m out of words too. I havent seen the bus but watching your video now makes me cry and feel more sad. I am commenting to all the people who was able to visit the bus That they are very lucky. You and justin is very lucky to be able to experience part of of Chris life. Theres a lot ways in order to mame the hike very safe. Theres a lot of options instead of removing the bus there. Just like you i hope that they preserve it. I Hope that they guard cause for a traveler like us, that bus is not just a bus, that place is not just a place. It is something that is special for us, it is something that no word can describe why that bus and that place is very special for us. I will still visit the place and hike stampede trail. And i hope they will tell us their plans about the bus. I am in tears while typing this brother. If you have instgaram account please let me know i wanna follow you guys and hope to se e you guys in future travels. Mine is : mjinternational Thank you for your video. Tell it to Justin too. Thank you thank you!
John, thank you for such a personal opening of your heart and soul. I feel bad for so many people that cannot see the bus anymore in it's original location, it really did have a "magic" sense to it sitting in that clearing on top of the hill, overlooking the rivers. I wish they simply made a footbridge across the river. Sorry I'm not on instagram, but I do post videos on my channel from time to time. Thanks again and keep in touch!
As I was watching this, I couldn't help but wonder, if people will still want to make the trek to that spot, whether the bus is there or not. I hope they leave the plaque in it's spot. Thanks for sharing.
I don't think taking the bus away will stop people taking the journey there. I just want the bus preserved. Be sad to see it disappear. And it's contents.
Even though having never commentated a TH-cam video, I think now it's the right time: Since I read the book for the first time, I have been fascinated (positively as well as negatively) by Chris McCandless' story and his attitude referring to humility, kindness, honesty, and faith; I can absolutely understand people saying he has changed their way of thinking and living, hence he has helped me understanding focussing on the really essential things in life. Even though he was not dedicated to "things", it seems to me that the "Magic Bus" was the place where he finally found his inner piece. I would have loved to go there! But right now I'm questionning myself: is the "wild" still the same without the bus, has the bus yet lost its spell not being out there? Despite temporarily feeling depressed about the latest news, it is nevertheless good to know that the "Magic Bus" was out there giving him a shelter to find peace and fulfillment. I really appreciate the lessons Chris and his journey have taught me, and it is nice to know that many people here think about it similarly. Even though the bus has been removed, I'm looking forward to heading to Alaska soon. Greetings from Germany, Simon
Simon, this is probably the most well written comment I've had yet. Chris' story has affected you much like it affected me. Like you, I'm not sure if the Stampede Trail where the bus was will ever be the same. Or, is the "magic" still there? I don't know. I hope you make it to Alaska and it would be great to hear about your journey!

Such a good idea.. it’s a material object exactly what Chris didn’t like.. he wouldn’t even upset at all. People came first not a hunk of steel.
It's like the titanic I think they should have left it alone because after a certain point it becomes not only a historical site but a memorial.
But no One had died going to titanic. They just spend way too much money on a submarine ride

Colleen, thank you so much for your kind words.
This was a sad decision to remove the bus. People are dying on their way to Mount Everest as well.
So you think that justifies leaving it there? Oh let’s compare how people die just to leave a death trap in its place. Come on.
The story of 2020 in general. Remove the small things that MAY harm someone... ignore the large things that absolutely harm everyone.
Maybe the bus can get wheels and a engine. To keep spreading Chris's love of travel and compassion. Chris is an angel. Bus needs to visit the rest of the world. Hugs and love..
Interesting idea.
Kinda like this 👍
I was sad that the bus was removed, but understand it needed to be done. I wish I could have visited it while it was still there. I’m guessing a few people may still visit the location regardless.
You’re right, it was like a people magnet 🧲
I know you have a connection with bus 142 and Chris but you will always have that. You know in your heart it was the best thing to do to save other peoples lives. Yes a story was told and a wonderful one however the bus belonged to Alaska and they felt it was necessary to move it. Y’all have shared with the world your journey and that is the best part for me. I have not seen, read or heard of this bus until I stumbled on y’all’s youtube channel. Thank you so much for footage that will be around forever.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words!
I’m so glad you two made the trek to Alaska and have this wonderful footage!
Us too!
I've had the same thoughts as you, the more I think about it, this was a very shallow decision.
They could have kept the bus in its spot and just build a bridge over that river to make it easy for the visitors. Christopher's spirit will live on anyway
No that is NOT an argument it isn't about numbers silly it's about LIVES, needless loss of life including Chris's.
Why on earth would you want more people to go out there and continue to DIE so you people can have a warm
fuzzy at that bus? That's CRAZY you want MORE families to go through the loss of a loved one like Chris's sister?
The fact of the matter is NOBODY would even go to the bus if it weren't for the book and movie. Nobody would
care PERIOD you DON'T NEED to turn the bus into an idol just go reread to book and rewatch the movie.
That bus has been broke down there for 60 years, it's in a harsh unforgiving WILDERNESS with GRIZZLY BEARS
walking around and people have been attacked NOBODY'S talking about that. The locals do get to have a say
about the resources spent in THEIR STATE and THEY WANTED THE BUS GONE end of discussion. Chris and
all the other non-natives to Alaska had no business going out there unprepared in the first place! This kid may
as well have just committed suicide, as go out there with ONLY a bag of rice, and no weapons or hunting skills.
I feel the same way, it's a total desacration.
Into the Wild movie is so perfect, so clear, so deep; I think I watch the movie over 100 times...
And you took us along. And for that I thank you. God bless
You are welcome, thank you!
He hiked unprepared to his death. Not magic
Barf. It's a rotting old bus in the woods tied to a BS story romanticized by Hollywood.
I just finished the series and it was fantastic! I laugjed and cried. What a wonderful blessing that you were able to see it when you did. Great job documenting your journey.
Thank you so much!
I was lucky to see the bus from the air in the 90s. My friend had a Cessna 170.
Thank you Sam, good to hear from another bus visitor. You "felt" it too!! I'm sad and angry about it right now.
Wow. I am all the more grateful for the beautiful film you made about your trip to Alaska, with that magical episode at The Bus. It was truly magical and whatever happens now, we have that. Thanks! 🙏🇳🇱
Thanks Ellie, we also feel grateful for having been there, will never forget it.
I have mixed emotions... but we will always have your Going North Series to watch and re watch.. God Bless
Thank you.
I am glad I got to learn about the magic bus, I never heard the story or seen the book. Sad to see the magic bus flying off to a new home (hopefully)
I am really sad, I hope that this bus take it in a museum or in a place that people can see it without risk
personally I am in Algeria north of Africa and I would like to see it in front of me - Rip Christopher McCandless and Bus 142
Headlines : “bus caused a danger to tourists”
No, tourist took it upon themselves to put themselves in danger.
Plus now people will just go visit the spot where the bus was. And now they will just have no shelter.
Right, people put themselves in danger, the bus didn't tell them to do anything!
@@ParklandFilms Plus from other videos it seems there was an awful amount of trash being left out there. I believe some was hauled away but almost looked like they needed a dump truck up there to clean the surrounding area up.
No, the main reason for going was to see the bus. Now that main reason has been removed.
@@ParklandFilms the people who put themselves in danger also put their rescuers in danger.
@@fuelboyfilms You will never get a dump truck there
Never forget: It has been your journey to the bus that made the day. It also has been the journey that made Chris' day. That in the end is what counts.
Thank you. I always look fondly at our time at the bus.
It just wont feel the same. The spirit left the bus when it was moved.
I was deeply saddened by this , it was my number 1 destination. Was just waiting for my son to be old enough to go with me. Thanks for at least showing me what it was like to be there in person . I appreciate your channel
Thank you and I'm sorry you never made it out there.
Wow, treasure the memories, I know I will treasure what you and Justin shared through the videos. Thanks.
You bet!
@@ParklandFilms Saw your interview with Global news, well done. I hope the bus is placed in a safe place of honor to share the legacy for all.

I am just discovering this . This breaks my heart I really like Christopher's story ever sense I watch the movie I will never forget his story and his legend . Thanks for the news although it it is shocking and sad .
thank you for this. Happiness is only real when shared
Agree on the move. So great you got to document it in its original location.
Thanks Terry.
I watched your video! Yes most windows were broken, but at least it was still there. Sad to see it moved, thanks for commenting!
chris is forever in our hearts, never forgotten
Thank you, yes I feel so lucky to have been there and experience it.
I hope they at least put it in a museum
This is heartbreaking.
I hope this bus is kept in the museum or something.
It was much cheaper to move it the way it was. It was also a training mission, that would have cost the same if they trained doing something else.
i think it's good that it is moved to a museum where everybody can watch it
No kidding, I think a footbridge would have been relatively cheap and could have been crowdfunded. Thank you Becky, good to hear from you!
@@ParklandFilms No, a foot bridge would not have been relatively cheap to build.
as point of reference the average bridge is $5 million, most are small and in more hospitable areas.
Thank you!

Right on the money!
Those who planning for the visit that bus... Let me tell you.... My and your dream shattered... Now it's only a dream... 🥺
Part of me is missing now

This has been one of my goals to make the hike. I can but the bus would have been what im going to see. Last place Chris was. Its a shame. But im sure people will still take the trip .
Thanks for the update.
I appreciate you guys in your emotional investment into the whole thing and it wasn't nice until you went out there and cleaned it up some people wouldn't like that but I thought it was very nice to do that you guys are okay
Thank you!
I hope the bus is preserved so people can still visit it. Only it is not only the bus itself that is the draw but also the location. To bad they could not have developed a way to get to the bus safer.
Totally agree.
it was my dream hiking to magic bus where it is. it is bad news for my bucket list. hope they ll put the bus at a right place so people can visit properly.
Sorry your dream won't become a reality. However, in the next couple of years they should have the bus ready for viewing in Fairbanks!

Hey Brian, good to hear from you. Beater challenge was moved to 2021, so hopefully we see you then!! Too bad about the bus.
That bus has been there for almost 60 years.I know why they moved the bus people died getting there also the trash left behind by people.I hope the state sets the bus up for people to visit safely
I thought of you both immediately when I read about it.
No! So heartbreaking! Thank you so much for updating us! And thank you for making the Going North series, I will cherish it even more now. Oh, I can't believe it, I'm at a loss for words. :(
Heartbreaking. Hard to imagine what the McCandless family is feeling about this.
Wow, shocker. Like you I get why they did it. But it does seem a shame. So glad you got there before they moved it. Wherever it ends up it won't be the same. I feel not just the bus itself was special but where the bus was placed seemed special too.
You are right, it will never feel the same I'm sure.
Coincidentally I happened to be watching Into the Wild🤔
Well there goes my bucket list
Yes, it's really too bad. So many people feel the same way.
Thank you
I do hope they preserve it in some way. But, I doubt visiting it out of context will ever be the same experience. I'm glad you guys got to visit the bus and share your experience with us.
Well said! Thank you.
The family was NOT consulted and that is making me angry about it.

It's about time.
Wow that's crazy too hear that they had moved it
As I was watching this, I couldn't help but wonder, if people will still want to make the trek to that spot, whether the bus is there or not. I hope they leave the plaque in it's spot. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe a bridge could be built over the river and it will be a place people can safely get to for many years to come.

We should all go up there and get rescued, that way they know their plan truly failed.

I actually laughed out loud at this, ya no kidding hahaha
Well said.
I don't think taking the bus away will stop people taking the journey there. I just want the bus preserved. Be sad to see it disappear. And it's contents.
So sad they moved the bus.But it was for the good because people had to be rescued when going there.A few people drowned crossing the river.
Even though having never commentated a TH-cam video, I think now it's the right time:
Since I read the book for the first time, I have been fascinated (positively as well as negatively) by Chris McCandless' story and his attitude referring to humility, kindness, honesty, and faith; I can absolutely understand people saying he has changed their way of thinking and living, hence he has helped me understanding focussing on the really essential things in life.
Greetings from Germany,
Simon
Simon, this is probably the most well written comment I've had yet. Chris' story has affected you much like it affected me. Like you, I'm not sure if the Stampede Trail where the bus was will ever be the same. Or, is the "magic" still there? I don't know. I hope you make it to Alaska and it would be great to hear about your journey!
Bus needs to be in a Museum. That bus is Hallowed Ground
Damn...
That hurts man. I understand but it still hurts. Not the same in a different location. Guess I won't be doing that trip. 😢
Merci pour l'information Ryan. Triste nouvelle. J'aime beaucoup tes vidéos Going North.
