Back then Badminton is about techniques, but since the scoring is change (21point) Badminton is about power.
But still I always love badminton from time to time.
BWF wants to make it more exciting I guess. Before the change, gaining points is a slow, painful effort. Imagine a doubles game, you have to wait the serve to change 2x before it's your side's chance to make a point
Stamina too mate. Back then I can play all out because it's only 15pts per set

He's such a legend his name along with Susi Susanti's appeared in tests when I was in elementary school. Kids used to play badminton on the streets every sunday morning. He really helped make badminton become super popular in Indonesia. Not to mention lots of parents named their kids Taufik Hidayat after him.

Taufik (1981), Lin Dan (1983), LCW (1982).. They are the same age, but they reach peak performance at different ages.
In 17 years old (1999), Taufik became the world number 1.. He already appeared in the All England championship final & became Indonesia Open champion & sea games gold medalist at that year... (FYI at that era, badminton tournament isn't as many as nowaday)
So it's not about whether they are the same age or not, it's about whether they hit their peak at the same time??.. For me, it's good enough for Taufik that he can still beat Lin Dan until last time at 2006 & Lee chong wei last time at 2010 🙏

Taufik dominance is from 1998-2005 after a lot of injuries he drop in 2006. many people say he drop after getting married but actually is wrong, he drop because of his injuries. Taufik say "i am more care about my body rather than medal, sometime i fear of my injuries on the field". Lin Dan and LCW from 2000-2005 can't even beat Taufik Hidayat, but 2006 and later on no one argue that Lin Dan and LCW is best, such as Messi and Ronaldo.

The funny thing is Taufik had a blank-expressionless-face but the truth is he's very emotional & can get easily angry. I remember once, he play at some tournament, the referees keep playing foul, he finally got angry, throw his racket & went to the changing room. It took the head of tournament to convinced him to play again... And the head of the tournament stay there, so no more foul from the referees.

Taufik Hidayat is an artist. I mean, he can play our emotion when watch him. And I think the old is system is compatible for him. He gave point to his enemy first, then he locked his enemy's point.
The system nowadays is suitable for machine player. When the game start, the engine must be on. Taufik is not too suitable on that way.

@@amarreezlan7131 the old format consume much energy (stamina) for getting 1 point..thats why the game point end at 15..you need to win first shuttle for serve, then another one for point..if lose, the opponent get to serve and vice versa..it was very tiring for old format

Latihan fisik setiap hari pagi sore sampai muntah. gak kan sanggup juga orang biasa menjalaninya. begitulah kehidupan seorang atlit, latihan fisik, tekhnik dan mental yang sangat keras untuk menjadi yang terbaik di dunia
Lebih dari 6 tahun sih, Taufik Hidayat sendiri mengakui kalau dia mengorbankan masa kecil nya untuk fokus berlatih badminton. So i guess, for being a Olympic medalist, you need a life long commitment
