Lin Dan was always the cocky one. But in this match, Lin Dan showed show much respect for Taufik, often picking up the shuttle even when he won the point, and that high five in the middle of the game. Two legends, what a match!

Actually Taufik’s prime was little bit earlier than Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei, even though their ages are pretty close. He was basically the best during the earlier 2000s, in 2004 he won the gold, but young Lin lost in the first round, also did Lee lost in the round of 16. I wonder what will happen if three of them total overlapped in their primes.

It's interesting to note that in many matches between them, Lin Dan rarely went for a straight attack against Taufik. Against other players, Lin Dan was super aggressive in his prime, but only Taufik could make him extend longer rallies because of the former's defense and shuttle placement. Taufik was one of the very few players that could dictate the pace in the game against Lin Dan. Even LCW could hardly push LD to move that much.

Although Taufik lost, I would like to credit him some. Despite inferior in stamina due to age, his footwork & racquet swimg are second to none. His movement is so fluid on court, that sometimes Lin Dan is caught off balance.

In terms of talented body for badminton, no one can beat taufik, period.. he's built for badminton. Look so effortless while still deadly powerful. Lcw trained for it, while lin dan is perfect overall, mentally and physically.

Taufik tahun 1998 sudah ikut tim Thomas Indonesia , Juara. Tahun 1999 beliau runner up All England, sayangnya hingga pensiun belum pernah juara All England.
Performa Taufik menurun drastis sesudah beliau meraih emas keduanya di Asean Games 2006 Qatar.
Setelah itu selama 6 tahun tunggal putra membosankan karna hanya Lin Dan Dan Lee Chong Wei yang bersaing ketat, meski LCW belum pernah dapat emas Asean Games dan Olimpiade namun secara head to head TH kalah lawan LCW

Both are great, Lin Dan is my Pav player all the time but Taufik Hidayat is a legend in my country. Anwy, the crowd was fantastic.
49:57 was Taufik's last Olympic point through out his 4 Olympic performances it's :( sad, he started it in Sydney 2000 as 1st seed but being Quarterfinalist, beaten by Gold medalist Ji Xinpeng ; and his best result was Athens 2004 (Gold), 2008 as 7th seed beaten by Wong Choong Hann of Malaysia in 2nd round and the last performance in London 2012 as 11th seed, end up in round 16, beaten by Lin Dan.

I remember this match. I think this match also change people's perspective of lin dan. Lin dan show so many respect to taufiq in this game. Legends. Taufiq already declining at this time of his career. Lin dan can easily beat him by miles. But yeah legend respect legend, i guess.
Already declining is somewhat an understatement, considering his struggle to win tournament since as early as 2007. He’s still a legend and we are still proud of him, regardless
