    As a husband who sleeps in a separate bed, its done for work purposes. Our shifts are different and we were disturbing each others sleep due to this. When we are both off, we sleep in the same bed.😢

      Same here. I'm married, 2 young kids. I have to wake up at 1 a.m for work, so I go to bed around 6 p.m.
      My wife and kids go to bed around 9-10 p.m. There's too much noise and commotion going on to sleep in my bed where it'll be quiet to get a good night's rest

    Relationships are not one size fits all. I have not slept in the same bed with my spouse in over 10 years. And our marriage does not lack intimacy at all! We hold hands, we go on walks, we talk, we have dinner together, we laugh together, we still have a ball. We are going on 38 years of marriage. And yes when we travel, we get adjoining rooms because I need my sleep! My spouse is a retired veteran with PTSD. Even with the meds, my spouse kicks, punches, and screams. There is nothing like being startled out of your sleep from a scream, or a slap and seeing this person devastated because they have no control of their actions. Intimacy doesn’t require that we sleep in the same bed. Our intimacy begins everyday when my spouse says good morning baby is there anything you need or I say good morning baby what would like for breakfast. I am happily married to my best friend! And I happily sleep alone every night!

    • @mikomai3754
      @mikomai3754 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you!! They don’t understand, marriages aren’t one size fits all and people do what is best for them. My husband and I sleep in separate bedrooms as well, because our sleep patterns are different and my husband has a very dangerous job and I wouldn’t want to keep him awake, when his job and life depends on him being always alert (I want him to come back home to me). Plus he’s an extremely light sleeper, who likes to be in complete darkness. We’ve been married 14 years and together 16 and we have absolutely no problem with intimacy. I think for people that haven’t been in a long term relationship or marriage for longer than 10 years don’t understand that intimacy isn’t just sexual. Intimacy is the act of being close on all plains of being, meaning mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It’s not just sexual.

    My grandparents were married 72 years and always had separate rooms, single beds. Seemed to have their sanity until their last days. I know that seems weird but i think it's a respect thing. Everyone needs personal space in a relationship. Boundaries are important. People need to learn boundaries with all relationships, including work relationships.

      If possible, you should try and address the snoring with a sleep study, it could be effecting the quality of sleep your partners are getting. If it is, it’s most likely causing fatigue or other health related issues you may not even be aware of. The extra bed may save you but it could potentially just be a bandaid to a more serious problem. Might sound like a bit much, but after fixing my sleep (snoring) issues myself I don’t know how I was operating like that for so long.

    I have been sleeping in a separate beds with my wife since my son was born over 5 years ago. I have PTSD and have been known to occasionally (very rarely) throw elbows or swing in my sleep...I dont care how rare it is I couldnt live with the fact of harming my baby or my wife in my sleep. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it BUT we are going to be purchasing a new bed at the end of this month and Im going to join my wife and son here on out. We did some test runs and it seems like Im good to go now. I know people who sleep in the bed with their spouse every night on the way out of their relationship. I know my situation is very specific but I see where yall coming from with it.

    We sleep selfishly. It is what it is. Because we can’t really control what we do. I snore pretty bad and move around a lot. My girl will seriously lay her head down and not move a single inch for 9 hours. She is like an angel. She says most nights I’m actually okay. But having that second bed is good for the nights that I’m back on my bullshit. Gotta respect your partners sleep! Cause a tired and worn out wife/husband is not going to lead to a happy marriage.

    • @Potato_Gnocchi
      @Potato_Gnocchi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Great point. Same situation. I snore like a Mack truck. My girl and I sleep together most nights, but having that separate bed when needed helps. I don't want her to suffer when she's gotta work in the AM, and I don't want to be resented for stuff I do when I'm unconscious 😂😂 I'd rather sleep together but you gotta respect your partner's need for sleep if you saw logs all night.

    My grandparents passed in the 2009 (Grandfather) & 2010 (Grandmother). They were in their 80's when they passed away and were married for 60+ years. Grandparents had 4 bedrooms in their home and they started sleeping in different bedrooms when they got into their 60's in the (1980's) and retired from working. Slept in different bedrooms for 20 years (1989 - 2009) before they passed away because my Grandfather was a morning person who woke up around 5:00am every morning and my grandmother was a night person who stayed up and watched Television until after midnight. Grandfather went to bed around 7:30 PM everyday. Even though they slept in different bedrooms would always make time for each other to watch Television with each other for at least an hour , two or more. Grandfather was a light sleeper and grandmother was a heavy sleeper.
    They irritated each other for decades at times, but the love that they had for each other kept them married for 60+ Years until they passed. Just hope I can stay married for 60+ years whenever I meet and marry my wife in future whenever I meet and marry her.

    My grandparents wouldn't get divorced and had separate bedrooms. They went to counseling for years and the doctors figured out my grandma was wacko. They had their 50th anniversary and finally got divorced. My grandpa was a farmer and did everything he could to make sure she was set for that day. She went to college while he farmed.
    When they finally got divorced she got half the income from the farm plus she was a part-time nurse.

    I will say for me and my wife sleeping separately almost ruined our marriage. That’s because once you start having separate bedrooms and beds you are ultimately opening the door to having a lack of intimacy which a marriage also needs to survive.
    Let’s also remember a marriage is about sharing everything in all aspects of our lives not just the things we “choose to share”

      @@jgyrwa I think you’re confusing codependency with not sharing a bed. Sharing a bed doesn’t mean you can’t be an individual with your own thoughts and ideas.
      All I’m saying is that once you decide to get married. You are committing yourself to a person, completely mind-body and spirit it’s not saying that you aren’t your own person. But you are also willing to share things very intimate with your partner such as your bed. also if the two of you cannot sleep together if that’s just something else for you to work on together. You don’t move out of the house just because you don’t like living with the person. You work through it.

    Do you rent separate rooms when you are on vacation?
    Okay, lots of people talk about their grandpa and grandma, or their mom and dad sleeping in separate beds, and had long marriages.
    Great, but do you really know about their personal relationship with each other.
    Intimacy in a marriage is so very
    important, and should be spontaneous.
    Even holding hands in bed and just talking with each other is special.
    My husband and I are in our late 70's.
    We met 13 years ago. Intimacy keeps our relationship alive, and keep us focus on each other. We both complain that each other snores loudly😊.
    We got used to it. If I am too loud during the night, he goes to the guest room.😊 We always sleep together.
    Your partner's snoring is not an excuse , unless you were an only child and set in your way. Then you will have a room mate.
    I have a friend who does shift work, her husband and her sleep in the same bed.
    In certain cultures, it is the norm for husband and wife to sleep together.
    My grandmother and grandfather slept in the same bed.
    My mom and dad slept in the same bed.

    I don’t think it’s a problem if you have the right partner.
    Some partners are understanding, and their relationship is not based on spooning in bed. There’s a fashion found in other places in that relationship.
    We have to stop applying a standard that works for everyone. It doesn’t exist. We are all individuals and what works between couples just works. Others, other things work.

    • @mikomai3754
      @mikomai3754 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! It’s not a problem because the couple has an understanding and a process that works for them. There are many reasons and I think it’s unfortunate when people can’t see outside of themselves, they paint everyone with the same brush. What works for you, may not work for me.

    My grandparents slept in separate beds for at least 20yrs! They were married for at least 45 yrs and literally until death did them apart.
    My wife and I have been married for almost 10yrs. We sleep in separate rooms from time to time due to our individual tastes in TV aka she loves Reality TV and I hate it. Lol.
    So sometimes she’ll fall asleep in that room while watching her shows that I hate, and I’ll sleep in our Master’s suite after I am done watching my movies/shows.
    No beef.

    An ex (before we were a couple and just friends) told me that he snored like a freight train (and he was NOT exaggerating lol). I'm a light sleeper. So he KNEW before it was even a thought that we'd be together that sleeping side by side just wasn't going to happen 🤷‍♀. When we eventually moved in together, having separate bedrooms was an automatic part of the equation. We also had different sleep/wake hours (I'm basically nocturnal and a freelance writer), so I'd hang out in his bedroom until he fell asleep (started snoring), and then I'd go to mine. In the early mornings, he'd wake me up in my bedroom (which I was fine with), and we'd have some time together before he left for work (after which I'd go back to sleep). Since we also had our own bathrooms, we didn't have any fights about our differing levels of cleanliness in that area 😏. Our eventual breakup didn't have anything to do with the fact that we didn't actually sleep together because we had plenty of intimacy and cuddle time with each other; we just didn't SLEEP together.
