FYI I have worked in the Auto industry in BC Canada for 30 years and never seen that style line that was installed without the safety clip. The plastic clip is very important as the metal clip is prone to getting stretched out of spec which could allow the line to disconnect under transmission line pressure. The safety clip will not fit over the metal clip if it is bent enough to not hold the line, the line can not disconnect from the metal clip if the safety clip is sitting properly against the fitting. Good presentation .
Many thanks for that great info. I should have stressed that better for sure instead of quickly glancing over it for sure. I appreciate the comment and feedback. Make sure to subscribe and again....thanks.
Always use the safety clip. I had a snap ring fail even through you could hear and see it clip in. Not fun with fluid all over the ground and a transmission that wouldn't shift or engage out several miles from town.
@@MotorCityMechanic Hey brotha got a tech question hope you can steer me in the right direction. Got a 15 ram 1500 hemi 8spd , had to replace the lines" 52014804AI " my question is on the transmission heater the 2 holes for the lines which is which ? Does the farthest hole on the heater does that line connect to the top or bottom line at the radiator? I can't find a clear diagram and not sure if I mixed them up. Basically which line is supply and return at both connection points, radiator and transmission heater. Any help would be amazing. Love your videos.
David, you are GOOD! You KNOW how to explain the DETAILS that are NECESSARY and ARE the very reasons that guys like me come to view your videos in the first place! Keep us the expert teaching! We NEED it.
There is a small o-ring inside the fitting that should be changed or you run the risk of the cooler line leaking.Choice is yours, just know that if it leaks now you have to take it apart again.
This is the tenth and last video I feel the need to watch before I go work on my truck. You took the time to clearly show how it works and Why it works that way. And personally that's what really makes the difference in my understanding. The Why it works the way it does. Several other clips showed the same technique, most not as visible as this video. So thank you for a job very well done. I salute you sir
Thanks bud I'm always a fan of anyone who helps me avoid buying those specialty tools. They make so many I would run out of room in the toolbox or just plain forget I have them
Omg thank you!!! 3 hrs I spent, on my birthday to beat it all, trying to get the plastic clip back on an 05 Liberty line. 1 clip, 3 hrs. All afternoon replacing both lines. I wish I had found this video during searches prior to starting this project... I'd not have had such a long, rough day.

I'm finding the hardest part of fixing a car,, is all the different clips and how to remove them and replace them, because you just can't figure out how ,to get the part off.... this video is very helpful, you explained it, very well thank you!!
Great explanation and tip. Good camera work and straight to the point. Far too many mechanical videos on you tube that are of poor quality and way too long. Greatly appreciated. Anything you can add on the 4.7 will be appreciated. Not many tutorials on '05 Dakota 4.7 V8 and I struggle finding information.
Many thanks for the kind words about the video. My early videos sucked when it came to quality....over time I evolved lol. I will certainly keep those requests in mind for future videos. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already

Just want to say thank you for the video. Working on a 2004 GMC Savana, replacing the radiator. First time having a transmission cooler inside the radiator and these type of connectors. Made the switch a breeze with a small screwdriver.
I am a few years late finding this video, I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider XLS 4.7L, information about anything under the hood is scarce, I cannot tell you how much help this video was for me changing my radiator and removing transmission lines. Thanks David, that was great. I am just about to change the radiator in my 07 Dakota that has exactly the same type disconnects, and I was in awe as to how I was going to get them free, so you did me a world of good. I will continue to watch your video's so keep the good stuff coming. Thanks again.
Finally, Finally, Finally, somebody reveals the mystery, of the "Mystery Clip", the one that's Clipping the public with it's mystery. This is the only video I've found that shows up close what this and how to work it off/on. When something like this comes along and so many people won't explain it and there are no instructions on it's box, the reason for it is to Clip the Public for $$$$$. If nothing else then it's good for the transmission specialist when it leaks out all your transmission fluid on a freeway which also is a shot in the arm for the wrecker business. Thanks so much ! ! !
Thanks Dave! Now my c230 is gonna stop popping off tranny line!!! Auto place guy said clip must go on plastic cover !!! Lost alot of fluid !!due to not doing it myself!!! You bet I'll be bugging ! Have a good day Dave ! You done saved my day !!!
This was a huge help! Worked right away. The new radiator already has the C clips and O-rings installed, so I didn't have to transfer them, which was nice. But I'll probably grab them off the old radiator. Thanks for the super helpful video. Also saw your PT Cruiser timing belt and water pump replacement video and decided that it was way too involved for my skill set or available space, single car monthly rental garage. Just gonna leave that to the expert, but doing my own radiator and getting the transmission oil lines off was what was holding me up on another car I was working on.
God bless you man, you just saved me $250.00 because I didn't have a clue on how that set up worked and I was just getting ready to take my car to the shop to have a radiator replaced.
Wow. Thank you Sir. I came to your channel because i received a new radiator with those style of fittings. I was baffled but thanks to you. I basically have a safety measure for if the screw on connectors fail.
I was changing a radiator on 06 pacifica and the tranny cooler broke at the cooler. Thanks for how to take apart. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEASY. THANK YOU AGAIN.
Excellent viseo. Shows the "shop" way ($$$), and the quick & simple way. I have had the lines pop off 2 times. All the fluid spewed out. Dang! The white plastic "keeper" caps would meke a more secute connection. Thanks!! 👍👍
