Guys, I have owned, tested plenty of cars .. currently owned a Sapphire blue GT4 , and the mighty BMW 1M .. coming from a good enough trackdays experience .. the GT4 is by far the best experience I have ever had. No wonder it had the ECOTY award amongst big names. It was surprising when one of the journalists mentioned that this could be the best handling car ever built ... I was like "really? what an axaggerated statement"!! , couple of months later, got my blue GT4 .. driven it on road/track .. had it for almsot 7 months until now .. I can surely say this car is one of the most precious machines since Henry Ford's era .. and I can agree with that jouranlist who said "The best handling car ever built".. all inclusive. Thank you PORSCHE , Well done Mr.Andreas Preuninger.
i have a turbo forester and have just come back from tasmania - no shit rain, hail and snow fantastic and up to 220 klh in some spots - it is up graded in all areas a little.
Lane Mentaberry Boxer engine. famous rally proven AWDs. Great agility thanks to low center of gravity of boxer engine. Legacy sedan uses Porsche's 3.6 H6. very detuned though lol.
1/4 tank in 2 laps? that has to be either the gauge reading off at the moment you looked at it or you just read it wrong. 1/4 tanks in 2 laps would mean you can't even last a full 20 min lapping session on a single tank of gas. I've been to track days with GT4's, they fill up once or twice a day, not after every session.
I drove one of those GT4 CS and it is a fantastic car and really easy to drive. The perfect car to learn how a modern touring car works. The mid engine is perfect for traction and you can use the throttle nice to steer the car. One of the best CS cars on the planet.
Maybe I missed it, but you said the Clubsport had a PDK yet both looked to be shifting down with the stick. The paddles looked to be there, so was that just preference or is the PDK set-up differently in the Clubsport?
what bothers me more is that he has his thumbs inside the wheel. a good way to injure/lose one when something (unplanned) happens. one of the first things my father told me...
I'm honestly surprised that /drive would go and film at Texas World Speedway. I wish the track would at least be repaved and fix. This track has a lot of potential.
I've had my GT4 for 3 days. I love it so far. It will be parked after Halloween as we'll get snow in November. She'll be parked until spring. Once spring hits I'll return to golf and my GT4.
I still stand behind what I said. I have a relative in southern California. It's nice place to visit but if I ever moved it would be elsewhere in Canada. Happy New Year Fred. @@fredpinczuk7352
It does need some time to teach you brain to shift with paddels, even under race conditions and some will still prefer the gear stick as they are used to it. It´s a litle bit as you would switch fork and knife to the other hand.
The Porsche PDK stick always also works like a sequential manual gearbox stick by pushing them up/down. You can also disable the automatic PDK shifting and shift a Porsche with PDK like a car with sequential manual gearbox using the PDK stick. There for the PDK has still a stick - the guys at Porsche have decades of race experience and exactly knew what they are doing. So the road legal Porsche´s always have their DNA in race and motor sport.
Race-suits large enough to be re-purposed for a 10 men tent, helmets that don't fit properlly and cheap wine in plastic bottles. All class when it comes to reviewing a Porsche GT4
Matt, how come you are shifting with a stick? Clubsport has a PDK and paddles. I thought the stick taht is present in the cockpit was rather for changing modes or something, like here: /watch?v=Q0VZRk_yWgU
I don't know why I watch these GT4 videos as my GT4 is put away for the winter. Currently we have a few inches of snow on the ground. Two more months my GT4 will be back on the road.
The thing with the GT4... it is much slower than the Cayman S. The same with the 911 R, it is slower than a 911 S and up to a point, not really faster than a base 911 with PDK.
How ironic Porsche offers the road care w/ no PDK option. The race car has a standard PDK trans that should have been an option for the road car. :P :) Now watch Porsche announce a GT4 s :)
Matt, have you already forgot that you drove the 488 GTB??? I understand that you think Porsche makes the best cars in the world, at THIS level. But at TOP level Ferrari has set the bar and produced benchmark car after benchmark car for some time now. 458, Speciale and now 488 GTB that is just like the previous models a few steps above the rest.
Don't forget the 918, though. Seems to be well refined and can hang with any of the hypercars except tracks with lots of long straights. For pure day to day drivability, I'll take a porsche.
Have you driven a Porsche Cayman GT4? They're incredibly well sorted cars that make you feel like you're Michael Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton. The 488GTB is faster and looks edgier, but it's nowhere near the joy to drive that the Cayman is.
While ceramics don't go bad under street use with track use they become warped and cracked just like steel rotors but they are ALOT more expensive to replace. To give you an idea a friend of mine works at an Audi dealership and they have a customer with an R8 V10+ that tracks his car regularly. He had to get the rotors and pads replaced and just the rears cost $11,000, the fronts were another $12,500, this dude spent more on rotors in a year and a half of ownership then I paid for my car.
I just wanted to see the big guy get in and out of the cup car. I had an opportunity to partner up with one and it was a bitch getting in. I'm 230 pounds.
And exactly where will you be able to fit a spare set of wheels in a Gt4……..duh? Which is the achilles heel with the Gt4, as a track day car, it is totally impractical with no storage room. You need to invest in a car trailer & tow vehicle. This is why I would rather go with the Clubsport instead, a no compromise track/race car. Being over 100lbs lighter than the road car, aircon & adjustable ABS system, it makes more sense. More importantly, the engine & gearbox (PDK), is factory standard spec ie it is not a high maintenance race spec engine that requires a very expensive rebuild after 100hrs. The Clubsport was built to be serviced at any Porsche dealership exactly the same as the road car. Just look at the horrendous true costs associated in maintaining a GT3 track car. It is the perfect track car for the enthusiast wanting to go to the next level of racing without the high maintenance costs & headaches associated with most if not all race cars.
It looks worse than it drives, really fun track to run on. That and CJWilson Racing is in Austin. You can see Matt drove their Miatas at H2R just south of Austin in another video.
It is in the process of being bought out to build a housing development. It's been a long process, so the track owners haven't invested any more money into it because it is likely to be shut down soon (although it was just announced that it will be open for at least one more year)
This is really dry. I don't know just lacking enthusiasm? Like I bet if that guy did have sex with Marilyn she would be like eh. I watch/listen to Matt almost everyday, and he just didn't seem like he was having fun at all. Oh and I'm sure that guy brought the wine.

I like Japanese sports cars but I'm falling in love with cars made by Porsche.
Blue Euphoria Same here. I don't know if you like Subaru but Porsche & Subaru are like brother from another mother lol.
How so? Im curious?
i have a turbo forester and have just come back from tasmania - no shit rain, hail and snow fantastic and up to 220 klh in some spots - it is up graded in all areas a little.

1/4 tank in 2 laps? that has to be either the gauge reading off at the moment you looked at it or you just read it wrong. 1/4 tanks in 2 laps would mean you can't even last a full 20 min lapping session on a single tank of gas. AJ that helmet doesn't seem to fit you LOL
I really like seeing Road Car vs. Racecar comparison. Please more!
The sound set up on this channel is absolutely insane
I drove one of those GT4 CS and it is a fantastic car and really easy to drive. The perfect car to learn how a modern touring car works. The mid engine is perfect for traction and you can use the throttle nice to steer the car. One of the best CS cars on the planet.
Maybe I missed it, but you said the Clubsport had a PDK yet both looked to be shifting down with the stick. The paddles looked to be there, so was that just preference or is the PDK set-up differently in the Clubsport?
Manual in the GT4 road car, PDK in the GT4 Clubsport race car. You can use both the PDK selector lever or the paddles to shift.
Was about to ask the same question. Maybe the paddles are not hook up.
Hey Matt, you shift with the paddles on the steering wheel!
The GT4 is an incredibly aesthetic car. I like older cars, but the GT4 is probably the only post 2003 car I would be willing to buy
Whos this AJ guy? Seemed like he was holding that there wheel a little goofy
Jorden K right. bothered the hell out of me
Yeah, agreed. Guy kept taking his hand off the wheel too while he was talking. Who drives a race car like that?
someone who does not appreciate or understand that they get to drive a high performance car
what bothers me more is that he has his thumbs inside the wheel. a good way to injure/lose one when something (unplanned) happens.
one of the first things my father told me...
Poor technique. VERY annoying. Obviously not a high performance trained driver. Shuffling hands on the wheel- not good. His jokes are lame.
I'm so much agree with u Porsche makes best cars it just different experience driving Porsche
Glad to see /DRIVE is back but the actual driving footage in this video... not particularly exciting. A helmet cam would help.
Zygrene Your stuff is better, Zygrene! Sorry /Drive
piero914 That's probably a lot more praise than I deserve, but thank you!
The Sutter Home product placement at the end was hilarious
Bro.. why are you wearing a little kid's helmet tho?
I love the face he makes as he forces the 7-11 Sutter Home down lol.
Sorry brother, benefits of living in SoCal. Mine is year round fun.
I'm happy where I live as we don't have the violence you have south of Canada. Enjoy your sun and guns.@@fredpinczuk7352
@@seinsmeld13 I am actually Canadian, living in SoCal. And lesson learned from my parents long time ago. "When in Rome, you do as Romans."
I still stand behind what I said. I have a relative in southern California. It's nice place to visit but if I ever moved it would be elsewhere in Canada. Happy New Year Fred.
@@fredpinczuk7352
@@seinsmeld13 why golf? when you have a GT4. 😁
Wow you don't even have to hold on the the steering wheel on the race car. Are you going 20MPH..... your killing me dude.
was thinking the same thing... what kind of idiot drives like that in a race car
Obviously so they could talk over the sound they slowed down for their commentary haha. Jesus people, use some common sense.
the exhaust noise on that cup car is delicious!
AJ's helmet is too small. he should take care of that.
Pizza-Faced Turbo-Virgin might be one of the best username I've ever seen
This place is creeeepy !
is the paddle shifter broken ? why not use it
I can't get past the poor condition of the track
Oh look at that... 2 laps and I've burned a quarter tank of gas. 😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Love it Matt!
So awesome to se a video of the track I learned on. #saveTWS
So if you put the tires form the road car on to the race car, it would fell very similar to drive?
Ah my home track. Worked there all through college
New balance running sneakers , perfect driving shoes lol
Matt, why didn't you change gears with the paddles on the steering wheel?
It does need some time to teach you brain to shift with paddels, even under race conditions and some will still prefer the gear stick as they are used to it. It´s a litle bit as you would switch fork and knife to the other hand.
I see. I thought maybe the paddles were not working.
Does the GT4 have room for turbos and supercharger?
The Marylin Monroe comparison LMAO
Aj looks like a Canadian South Park character with that helmet...
Love the GT4 but hate how the wing looks. Wish they made it a little more aesthetically attractive, like the 911 GT3 wing.
I'm pretty sure that's the specs for the car, they aren't allowed to run a big wing.
Geefiasco I think the wing looks awesome !! Little more subdue than the GT3
lol. Let's not mention the paddles are broken then...
Confused, does it come with PDK? Looks like Matt's hand is reaching down towards a gearlever?
You can shift the PDK with the lever to.
Haha Matt.... I'm taking the racecar!!
why not use the paddle shifters on the wheel?
And people get triggered whenever I say the Cayman GT4 (The road car) should come with a PDK as an option...makes *so much sense...*
it would be nice to see both cars on the track at the same time to see the difference
The way u necked those huge bottles of booze at the end..........wow
LOL Wine in a bottle. That look was deserved.
Does the GT4 CS not have straight cut gears? didn't sound like straights.
The GT4CS has the PDK and the stick works like at a sequential manual gearbox Up/Down - gear up/down.
Well yeah, DCTs are awesome. No doubt. But DCT with straights sound awesome too. Not to mention the other benefits.
I love your analogies, and jokes. Re: Sex w/ Monroe & growing testicles from driving the clubsport.
How can you drive with the seat belt all twisted up and not realize it?
I don't know why I watch these GT4 videos as my GT4 is put away for the winter. Currently we have a few inches of snow on the ground. Two more months my GT4 will be back on the road.
awesome machines!!!!!!!
That was some pretty crude Sutter Home product placement. I don't know how you drank those things, they're really made for cooking.
Track's tarmac looks old. Really old, but I like it.
The thing with the GT4... it is much slower than the Cayman S. The same with the 911 R, it is slower than a 911 S and up to a point, not really faster than a base 911 with PDK.
How much extra for this gearbox?
Music please
Woah! A PDK and a stick.
Is that track abandoned?
Fun stuff!
Who does in car talking to the camera in a full face helmet?
does AJ know how to wear a helmet or is that just very far from the correct size?
this car isn't meant for straight lines guys...who cares about the 0-60...this car was designed for cornering
please post the video of Matt getting in and out of the racecar!
Cayman has a mid-engine, in my opinion this is a advantage, even better than the 911
Matt looks like a super villain.
Is this the AJ Baime who wrote "Go like hell" who inspired "Ford v Ferrari" ?
why they don't use the paddle shifter?
The most real race cars have a sequential manual gearbox and there fore race driver instinctively use the stick as they are used to it by practice.
So, what lap times were you guys running?! If you're not below a 1:48, that car is a waste of money, since I can do that on my motorcycle there!..
Turn off the rev matching? Why would I do that?
Because it's more involving without it and some people like the challenge.
Because you can do it on your own and that really satisfying.
Final conclusion, 2 amateur guys having fun!
How ironic Porsche offers the road care w/ no PDK option. The race car has a standard PDK trans that should have been an option for the road car. :P :) Now watch Porsche announce a GT4 s :)
I found it interesting that the roadcar was lower than the Clubsport. Would have expected it the other way around. Any thoughts on this?
For taking curbs on the track. The road car avoids curbs lol

I think AJ's helmet is too small I can see his whole chin when he's talking haha.
why doesn't the clubsport come with the ceramics
Zack Halverson because it can last longer. unless you're like racing for money with sponsor behind your back, sure get ceramics.
While ceramics don't go bad under street use with track use they become warped and cracked just like steel rotors but they are ALOT more expensive to replace. Why is motortrend even a thing when /DRIVE and /BIGMUSCLE and TheSmokingTire exist?
So what you're saying is you couldn't handle Marylin Monroe?!
This video would of been so much more better if it was only Matt
How tall is Matt anyways?
Tall, I think 6'3 or something.
I'll take the road car please!
is it just me or that gt4 sounds like an RB26?
Matt totally offsets any kind of weight advantage the race car might have had.
They could at least get him a properly fitted Bell or Arai helmet.
Would it be weird if Farah lost a yacht’s worth of weight?
Why didn't they just use the paddles
Was anyone else bothered by the fitment of AJ Baime's helmet? Because it was bothering the hell out of me!
...and the Differenz in Seconds ?!?!?!?
Nice video but should have taken those incredible cars to a proper track........with corners
Love your videos and Drive in general but AJ, hands at 9 and 3 mate. Get that steering technique down please.
Could he not find a helmet that fits his head? His chin is 2 inches below the helmet lol
I just wanted to see the big guy get in and out of the cup car. I had an opportunity to partner up with one and it was a bitch getting in. I'm 230 pounds.
Dude needs a helmet that fits!
BAE meats BAE
take the GT4 & put some slicks on it when going to trackdays.. done deal.
And you void the Porsche warranty. It specifically state not to run slicks due to the limited slip.

Dude, pull your helmet down so you can see over the chin guard!
I so want your job
your helmet is too high buddy...

Marilyn Monroe? how old are you, Gramps?
Why do you play the music so loud? It is just annoying and takes focus of the talking and engine noise.
Why does the AJ guy keep comparing the car to having sex. lol. he doesn't look like a teenager...
