    I got mine nearly a year ago now and with over 1000hrs of print time this is my review.
    I had a lot of trouble with the extruder setup and funnily enough I also had adhesion issues. Over the last year I've fitted it with a direct drive, pei plate, 5015 fans, bimetal heartbreak, a genuine volcano and I've migrated to klipper. Most of these mods are fairly unnecessary I only went this route as my two previous printers (og prusa i3 and ender 3) aren't very fast and I was really craving a super fast machine. The only mods I think are necessary are the flexbed and direct drive to make it a super reliable and fairly fast machine. Since the upgrades it's been an absolute beast. After input shaper calibration I can easily run 12k acceleration and my print speed is usually 200-250mm/s and the quality is really good (on par with my Prusa i3 mk1 at 70mm/s). I have pushed it all the way up to 500 and it's been just fine but just not as high quality at this speed. The best thing about this machine is the motion system. For this price, a solid chassis with linear rails and silent drivers make it a steal. Especially considering that the replacement for this machine, the Flsun v400 has ditched the linear rails and have gone back to rods like it's predecessor the Flsun QQS.
    Since writing this, I have built a full heat controlled enclosure around it using 3x 2mm acrylic panels, packing foam in 3d printed adapters and a peliter module mounted to an old CPU cooler controlled by an Arduino and hbridge for chamber heat control. It's been perfectly capable at printing some very high quality carbonfiber nylon and polycarbonate parts with the help of a copper volcano heatblock and 70w heat cartridge

    I have had this printer for nearly a year without the problems you had. Not unusual in this 3D Printing malarkey. Until I tried PETG. Prints stuck to the build plate like a cow pat to a picnic blanket. Even with a barrier of my favourite gluestick, scalpel blades were involved. Constant clogs meant I only used it for PLA.
    I have since fitted a bi-metal throat/heatbreak and some Capricorn tubing, 0.6mm nozzle and it prints PETG like a champ. I am a happy bunny.
    I think for the price this is a great printer. The build quality is excellent and assembly was a breeze.
    Klipper will be the next upgrade I shall do on this. I am curious to see how far I can push this exceptional delta.

    Kudos for continuing to distinguish between an unboxing and actual review. Reviews take time, and the machine has to be put through the paces. So many people race to be the first to review, with no real experience with the machine. Honestly, 6 months to a year really is about right to get a good feel for a machine. Maybe 3 months if you use it everyday.

    Curious why your tube had so many issues. Mine and Emily’s and a few others have had anything near that problem. But as you said sometimes that’s just usher experience per each machine.
    As for the build plate, I feel like I’d much rather a print that sticks TOO good over one that can’t get adhesion to save its life haha but yes; that can be annoying. The V400 as you saw now has a flex plate which is great and it’s direct drive so they clearly listened to someone’s feedback before you made the same conclusion which is good!
    I think FLSUN is onto something with these delta printers making a comeback.

    my build plates have been perfect for over 6 months now printing PLA+ and ABS+. I remember reading somewhere that the glass let's go on its own once it falls below 27c or so and I've followed it since. prints just pop off when they are ready no glue or sprays. Time to time il wipe the build plates with alcohol to remove any residue. using a desk fan to help cool the plate accelerates things

    We bought two of these both using your discount code from your live stream which is one of the few livestreams I've ever watched on TH-cam. So far the Super Racer is the printer that has had the least amount of issues (for FDM) compared to the other printers we've bought. We have also had issues with the PTFE tube. It seems the inner diameter is just a bit too small so there seems to be just a bit too much friction. We did have one "Attack of the Blob Monster" which destroyed one of the Fan directors. Over all each machine has several hundred hours on them. While you have had adhesion issues of models sticking too well, I seem to have to opposite where prints don't stick well enough. Most of the time the prints sticks well until the build plate cools off and then it just flies right off.

  • @neildarlow
    @neildarlow ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I guess, with this being a fast machine, it has a capable hotend and that might suggest that you do need to print at speed to keep the flow going. Printing at lower speeds will lead to heat-creep and jams.
    I thought the Super Racer came with a heated bed with removable PEI sheet. It's certainly available as a replacement part here in the UK.
    I opted for the QQ-S Pro because I couldn't see myself printing super fast with a delta (I don't go above 80mm/sec print speed) but I got the sense that you need to use the Super Racer's speed to avoid such problems.

  • @dannewell2760
    @dannewell2760 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    1. It has been found that the extruder (gears within) may spin due to the set screw not being set correctly in the set screw channel and thus causing issues with molten filament in the tube, lack of feed, etc...
    2. If a print holds onto the plate, I let the plate cool to room temp. The only time I have a problem removing a print is while the plate and print are still hot/warm. At times, I can literally hear the print pop loose from the bed.

    Thanks for not sugar-coating it. I'd also say that, unless the STL/3MF files had rough outer walls, the surface finish wasn't that great either. I wonder if it's the calculations needed for the kinematics that are to blame or just the extruder/tube/hotend combo.
    "Fast" is so subjective. What are the hard numbers? e.g. 120 is flying for people used to printing at 60; Not so much if you regularly run 80-90. However, if the finish isn't as good then what's the point? You'll spend more than the time saved in 'polishing' the print. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      I don’t run mine past 100mm/s and quality is usually great. I also used pre made profiles from cura for the most part so it could very much have to do with what profiles are being used. This machine seems to have 15 different profiles depending on when you got it and what version of cura you run. I appreciate seeing the not so good with the “speed is best” debate

    Appreciate seeing your take on the super racer. Ironically, I had the opposite issue with the bed. I had many issues getting any consistent adhesion. Had the same complaint about not having a flex bed as well Although as of a few days ago, I have added a wham bam plate and it’s been fantastic! I did run into a similar tolerance issue with one of the print in place gears but I found that printing it slower helped that. Hoping to see more in the coming months on the v400 as a potential upgrade to the super racer.

    I think I agree with you for the most part on your review however I think at the price point it comes in at, it is basically still in top tier of cheaper hobbyist level printers. Sure they could have put more time and money into a few parts of the printers but I think that's where there next printer the v400 comes in I would expect that to be close to perfect at this point.

    I have 2 Flsun SR machines and have had no issues with them and they print extremely fast. However I did upgrade the extruder right out of the box to OMG and swapped the tubing out.
    I've never heard of anyone complain about a print sticking to much but ok whatever....
    I pre ordered the V400. 👍

  • @rcmaniac25
    @rcmaniac25 ปีที่แล้ว

    - Does it have ABL? Yes
    - Does it have filament runout sensor? Yes
    - Does it have removable flex plate? No
    In that case, not worth the time.
    On a different note: I saw, but didn't finish watching yet, the FLSUN V400 livestream and thought "wow, that was a fast turn around time for a review..." and then you mentioned the livestream was a year ago and I went "wait, did TH-cam recommend an old livestream to me?" but yay confusion, I see they're different machines.
    It may not seem like much, "it's just a PTFE tube", but you don't remember the pristine prints you get off a printer... you move onto the next print (once you finish showing off the prior). But you remember the jams, and time it was down for maintenance. You especially remember that time you did a 36h print and it jammed or detached on hour 35. So given the small pile of parts you had there, clearance issues, etc. it's something that requires a bit too much hand holding.

  • @Chameleongoo
    @Chameleongoo ปีที่แล้ว

    Haven't had any issues with the PTFE tube. I've only done 2 things to this printer- 1. Install cura printer config from a guy in the facebook group 2. Bought a magnetic spring steel print bed. Its at least twice as fast as my Tronxy X5SA for detailed prints, and 3x faster for rougher functional prints.
    Edit: The extruder is loud so it's getting replaced. Also considering direct drive and klipper upgrade path. Didn't want to wait until end of the year for the v400, but those upgrades should make it comparable minus the extra build plate size.

  • @Mueller3D
    @Mueller3D ปีที่แล้ว

    Flsun printers often have jamming issues when the Bowden tube either isn't pushed all the way tight against the hot-end, or when the fitting that holds the tube lets it slip a bit. Either way, when filament enters the space between the end of the tube and the nozzle, it can cause a jam. A good fix for this is known as the "Luke Hatfield fix", and you can find a nice CHEP video about that here on TH-cam.

      You have to torque the nozzle down after it heats up, and make sure the ptfe tube is fully inserted in the effector when it is hot. The Z height is critical for first layer and it may take a few tries to get it right. My SR is a good printer for the price.
      If you want perfection go with the bamboo lab carbon ams.

    I have the same issues with my Super Racer. Print in place stuff is a no go, it just wont do it.
    For the PTFE issue, I was able to fix it by loosening the fitting a bit, put the tube in and then tightening the fitting thus jamming the tube in enough to fill that gap. I did this on both sides and haven't had a jam or bad feed since.
    I really love my SR so long as I use it for what it's good at, going fast! Otherwise, if it's something that needs good quality or print in place I just use my Ender 5.

    There seem to be at least a couple options to address your main issue with the printer, and it would have been nice if you discussed those in your review. Did you install Capricorn tubing after any of those clogs? Did you consider replacing the extruder? Did you consider a nimble or mini sherpa? I know this is a review of the stock printer; however, it seems to at least be worth noting if the two main issues you seem to have with the printer can be fixed with $80-100 in parts.

      @@kvitoroulis I believe the issue to be accurate, but it's solved with a new heat break which is an inexpensive and easy fix that he doesn't mention. Interesting elements their Dear Joel! But its a budget delta! too true is the need for "too much" cost savings on things like the clone BTT boards, BMG and horrid PTFE tubing. I wacked klipper on this, and i'm glad to see that the speed elements and software change has been adopted into the v400! #exciting The levelling attachment is a little annoying, i'd rather it levelled each time I print without having to play about with the attachment. I didn't get the stick to bed issue but the PEI route or flex bed is a great route. I've had the ptfe pop out of the extruder, and from the hot end leaving me with a real mess and not a 3d printed part. Did FLSUN just do the bare minimum and hoped that (like creality) the community would rush out and fix things? Some impressive mods have been made for this machine including weight loss on the hot end but you will need to spend a couple of $ hundred $ dollars on this to make it a good, fast printer* I'm waiting on the V400 to arrive for review but would love to know what stock comparisons you make on the step up from SR to V400

I'm Having a stubborn problem with an Ender 3 Pro that fails to auto home when it gets to the y axis and am wondering if there is somewhere here I could correspond with you to get some ideas regarding a direction I might take short of replacing the main board. Do you have an email I could message you at regarding the issue, or would you be way too busy for such a thing?

    Cool review. Seems more than charitable. Some of those prints early in the video look a little rough, with lumpy blips and layer alignment laxity. It seems the Mingda Magician X and Elegoo Neptune 2 and even humble vanilla Ender 3s do better for less money

    I'm fussy about filament storage, the top spool works well in use covered with a Rubbermaid 21 cup dry food container, since that's my container for normal storage, along with a gallon storage bag and 30MM 3D printed container filled with Dry & Dry color changing gel.

    The build volume isn't quite a cylinder. Because of the travel limits for the three arms when approaching the top of the rails the build volume looks more like a pencil standing on-end - it comes to a point at the effector's maximum usable height.

    That Bowden tube issue is almost certainly caused by having too much back pressure from printing faster than the set-up can actually manage. Why they ship Deltas with old school nozzles and heat breaks AND push them to Delta style speeds is beyond me. I bet if you chucked a CHT nozzle in there and changed nothing else, the problem would vanish. (CHT nozzles do give slightly weird extrusions with twirly whirly internal stresses but it doesn't show up much on the outside of models, ime.)
