Just a heads-up, that extension cord doesn't look like it's 20amp rated so you may need a different solution. The breaker won't protect it if you're drawing too much for it to handle.

Divide the plywood based on the number of printers you will place, and leave about half an inch of space between each one to help reduce vibration between printers. You could test it with one row of printers spaced out and compare it to another row where all the printers are placed close together.

Shopnation (Woodwork/print farm youtube channel) did that on his first farm build-out but not future expansions. I'm guessing it didn't have the impact he was hoping for.

But what are the alternatives for the farm? Bambu that will lock you up into their ecosystem, with potentially subscription to use multiple printers? Or maybe Creality, which kind-of works, but still needs to be tinkered with on a constant basis?

Nice! I'm a bit jealous right now 🙂 As you've asked for our print farm experiences (I gave you one of our dartcase products at formnext 2023): We are currently running 14 Printers in a mix of Prusa and Bambu (which isnt perfect), but it is always a lot of fun just to stand in front of the shelfs when everything is running! ANd I love the prusa connect, it is so much easier to run multiple printers from this than any other solution we tried, yet.

Right now it seems smartest to start the business publicly and scale the farm to ~20 printers.

I've been considering what platform I'd use for a print-farm. I think I'd probably go with Sovol SV06's or SV07's; they certainly aren't the best quality, but the ease of swapping the entire hotend assembly with 3 screws and a ribbon cable would result in very little machine downtime should anything break.

I know time is money, but was the additional cost of prebuilt machines worth the assembly time? I know it took me about 8 hours to put my 3s together, but it was my first and only time assembling. I would assume that I could assemble 3 in the same 5-8 hours if I did each step on a, b and c printers before moving the the next step. OR, in buying bulk machines, is the kit price no longer that much lower?

As someone who owns an X1C, I can tell you that the price to performance is there and the machine is genuinely incredible. You really cannot beat it, or any Bambu printer, for the price. As for the videos, its easy to get hyperbolic and react/overreact to things that people don't want to hear (read), but if you are using the printer and the BambuStudio application, nothing will really change as an end-user. If you are immediately making the purchase, go for it, the machines work great and really are plug and play. If you have a month to wait, let everything sit and see where everything stands when the dust settles.

Is there a bulk discount from Prusa Research for purchasing that many printers? It is hard to not choose the $14k discount (shipping + assembly cost) for a Kit vs a Assembled unit, but I can also see where there could be significant opportunity costs. Maybe it would be worth it to pay locals a per machine assembly fee if you can get them all setup without significant time loss.
It has hard to argue against Prusa since it is known for it's quality, but getting 2x as many printers for the same cost with other brands that have been show to have similar print quality is hard to pass up. Not certain I would choose Bambu with their recent closed platform nature, however several other brands are definitely competing very well in the same space as Prusa.

@@scarfa21 With the current controversy surrounding Bambu and their firmware, especially not really suitable for print farms. There are much better alternatives than Prusa at that price, offering more options and an open-source ecosystem. Sovol SV08, Anycubic Kobra S1, Creality K1/K2. What we want is the speed of a CoreXY, an enclosure, and an MMU. If they had chosen Prusa's CoreOne, I wouldn't have said anything...

@@SB-100 I wouldn't trade my P1S for an MK series-maybe the CoreOne-but the MK4 is very ordinary. When I look at it, I see my old AnetA8, lol. I have one P1S and several other printers like the Voron 2.4 and ZeroG, but I will never buy the Prusa MK series.

@@Nicecube3D Everything you said is valid _to you_. You are not understanding that for this use case, the Mk4S makes more sense: Prusa builds them to be *reliable*. This is a commercial print farm, where downtime means loss of money.
As much as I love VORON and ZeroG's Mercury One (I have both), they still are DIY printers, which means you are on your own to maintain them, and that's a big no-no on commercial environments. Also, the faster printer is to have more printers: why wait for one printer to finish when you can make multiple printers divide the workload?
