14:07 friendly reminder for Sky-Junk users, remember to switch on firing mode after it uses it's rocket ammo so the unit will once again start shotting with it's four snipers. It has separate, hidden ammo on them and I managed to win soo much battles because of that (like sniping off Vilitch for example).
@@splattbinat1542 I am not familiar with this unit, but if it has aditional men shotting and you are able to switch on firing mode after it uses canon ammo then yes. Same works for lizardmen dinos when they have these additional skinks throwing javelins on top of the unit. Also some modded units too have this ability like Marienburg Landship
@@jufuh1503 it's "firing at will" option, whenever unit goes out of it's amunnition, this mode automatically switches off without ability to toggle it again, however, if unit have secondary ammo then u can switch it on again so it will use it's full ammo. Because secondary ammo do not have range indicator, u can not mannualy fire it. Instead unit will shot automatically whenever enemy is within its range and firing arc if "firing at will" is toggled on. Simillar thing is happening for Khorne Soul Grinder or Chameleon Stalkers when they will use their ammo while close enough to the target and given melee attack order. Players do not see their range and thus can not manually order it to stay and shot, instead these two types of units are forced to do charge animation and shot while at it. Gladly this is a thing only for them because units like Dread Saurian or Khemrian War Sphinks despite being melee unit do shot when just moving around technically making them a "Naval like combat" units. After Sky-Junk uses it's ammo try to toggle firing at will on to see for yourself. Also I highly recommend spinning with the unit so all four snipers will get enemies in their own firing arcs with the result of shotting the target all the time, however it's targeting might be random if there are multiple for AI to choose so try to pick lone targets instead for full focus.
Thanks for reviewing it Legend. Two things, Yuan Bo can make all heroes and lords immortal and he can take any non enemy faction army with his mechanic. So, stealing Jorek was simple. I also have the golden knight and almost all of Wulffart’s heroes. The second thing is, when declaring an economic city, Yuan Bo gets increased relations with all factions so getting those dreadquakes was easy too.
Relations boosts and the fact Cathay is rich is so nice for just messing around with allied units. I have a mod that makes it so when I get a tier 3 outpost it gives me all their units regardless if they themselves can build it yet. Throwing around some money and trash settlements to get absurd alliances is so fun. I also really enjoy getting an alliance with Chaos Dwarves as Archaon to get their arty. Its lore sound and Chorf arty is a blast to use.
@@cinder8926Skaven artillery is quite fun with Chaos boys too. Nurgle especially benefits from having some plague claws, which are quite thematic for that matter.
@@GafferPerkele Yeah for sure allying Skaven as Chaos is also incredibly easy as you have all the same enemies anyway and if you are playing festus those minor settlements mean nothing so handing them of to Hellpit is a rapid way to get to Military Allies. My favourite alliances to make though with any faction I can is Bretonnia. Getting their Grail Knights and Guardians is so nice. I always like to have atleast 2 cav units in my armies when not the Brets so may aswell get the best ones out there.
I don't think it was good unit here. For missile army it gives bonus to reload speed, but once you reach 4s, you can't get lower, and with Miyao Ying you can reach that without drum. Also you can get harmony bonus without having Yang unit by using matters of state.
@@masaheimoi just have a decent yang unit which can bring its own value which cathay is not short of. Jade Halberdiers and dragon guard are very strong front line troops. Even the jade lion has utility although now that it disintegrates it is definitely weaker.
@@masaheimoi I generally don't play a campaign long enough to be done with fortress's or commercial districts so by the time I would be looking at doing the other, less powerful, matter of state's I am over the campaign. Also, those units are not weak so i don't feel as if it makes the army weaker or stronger. Just different composition.

It feels like the Cathay version of the weapons teams army for the Skaven (4 heroes, 4 Jezzails, 4 Ratling guns, 4 Plagueclaw Catapults, 1 Mortar, etc...)
You missed looking at Saytang's 4th line, he provides an additional 15% ammo for the whole army on top of the 15% of the 3rd line, and also speed and 12% missile strength to sky junk, among other things which didn't really matter in that army.

I noticed it myself as the jade court when you make commercial-focused cities they each give +10 relations with all factions so make ten tier 3 commercial cities and you can pretty much cancel Aversion and befriend everyone.
Legend: "You shoot here, you shoot there. You hold those units, you dont waste your ammo..." Meanwhile Chorfs see shattered unit of three wounded elven spearman: "Hehehehe mortar goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
I am doing similar Cathay ranged doomstack, and I think this has few problems: Jorek is not as good as warlock engineer because engineer can stop flying units. There is too much anti infantry artillery, less of them and more celestial dragon bows would have bern beater. Matters of state can bypass need for Yang unit to activate battle harmony. Also necromancers and plaque priest would be fine line holders, and Cathay gets item that summons even more units.
One huge benefit of the Sky Junk over the Fire Rain Rockets is they can see without moving all over the damn field like lunatics. Not saying they're better, just that is an actual benefit, they can position and fire from better areas faster which can come in handy to keep some sneaky unit trying to flank or sideswipe.
reload skill is insane with cathay now. Between all the boosts you can get them shooting a volley every 5 seconds. INSANE damage output on units that have one of the longest ranges and now new researches boost the damage done even more than before. They took a bit of melee capability from the frontline and then put the backline on steroids.
Sky Junks give a 25% harmony amplifier, so I think that's why they're included. In the battle you only had the war drum and sky junks near the crossbows, but I think the drum and sky junks are intended to be near the other artillery as well so that they benefit from the extra reload speed (& other harmony bonuses). The crossbows might get capped on reload speed by their animation, but I don't think the artillery do.
The war drum bonus doesn't just give harmony, it has a separate reload/melee stats aura that also applies to the artillery (incl the allied chorf artillery) so its pretty good. You can't really ever have enough reload skill for artillery because when is a 10+ second reloading unit going to run into the animation cap?
in terms of reload speed, it applies to the cathian atiliary as well, so while the crossbowmen might not get much extra benefit, its important for the rest of the army +magic damage buff from it is good vs phys resistance.
the drum increases the harmony and reload time by like 24%. if you have 6 crossbows you get 150% more firing speed. so you increase damage output, but give away ammunition.
yeah, reload speed is never bad, as long as you aren't at the minimum amount already (4.0). It doesn't go below that, which makes sense, since many reload animation take around that long.
I'll be honest, I'd put the war drum with the artillery and only move it near the crossbowmen once the enemy closes or the artillery runs out of ammo, whichever comes first.
See, in previous total war games, I could easily enjoy a total conquest campaign regardless of history, like conquering the world as England and invading their longest reigning allies Portugal for example. But in warhammer, I’m such a lore nerd, I’m like “nooo, Teclis would NEVER go and wipe out Bretonnia because they took marrianburg before I could” 😂😂

Surprised the war drum wasnt used and commented in more, never saw Legend use its bound ability which now provides AoE perma reload speed (on top of the harmony reload bonus.)
Considering how range heavy most cathay armies are, the reload speed buff is insane. Rocket artillery shots almost too fast with it. They just burn through their ammo and melee attack for melee units is nice to habe.
Another thing is that battlefield was perfect for the army. I imagine it would be harder to use on a field where they can actually run around the sides.
i feel like the sky junks add alot of firepower while not being prone to flanking, thus decreasing the width of the army. but your critiques make sense nonetheless
I wonder how this army would do against a similar Skaven army on a 100 corruption region. With all the sneakies and the jezzails and clanrats it would make this complicated as hell.
This comp is even better with the Jade Court I think, because fortress cities plus Yuan Bo dole out so much ammunition to their armies that it ceases being a concern at all even in these huge battles.
Cathay armies are really about balance. You need the drum, cannons artillery and archers to clean. Maybe the only nuance legend missed was he couls have the lanterns closer on front they quite tanky
Unfortunate that the army losses hit when the 4th stack hadn't really hit the field yet, I would have liked to see what they could manage to hit given that some of your units were out or, or about to run out of, ammo

You mean the great cannons? They are a decent all-rounder, but struggle a bit against big infantry stacks. They do however perform well against low entity unit stacks or sniping mages.
There is no reason why the units of the Empire are so much worse than the units of the other human factions. Almost all units which you can compare are better for Catchina or Ruslev. And i do not care about MP. Only play SP. So i want the Empire's cannons good against all units - like the Cathey ones. Cahtey and Kislev are so much better because of their monsters so the Empire need serious buffs. @@Manslayer-eo1nh
Once you've got Yuan Bo rolling , it's so easy to get alliances and good relations. I've got a turn 70 odd campaign on the go and with all the bits and bobs every faction is improving with people like Dark Elves wanting alliances , it's so weird .
Okay, I get it that when the A.I thinks it will win the battle it willl just attack you BUT how f-in hard can it be to program the A.I to ALWAYS form up ALL its units and wait for reinforcements before attacking regardless of the circumstances. The fourth army always ends up routing because of army losses, it's such a lame system.
This was amazing to see...but i will npte the battlefield was kind of ideal. A more open map with lots of (or acne patches of) trees would cause serious problems for that artillery. And then im not sure thats enough crossbows to cover against a wide cav attack.
Saytang ranged special attack is great against blobs of infantry, terrible against lords and heroes. You shouldn't have used it against Tyrion at the start of the battle, the normal attack is better in that case.
After patch 4.2.1 Cathay xbow units have insane missile damage with their tech tree and other buffs. Celestial xbows with 100+ ranged damage deletes things so fast lol
I really like this army, I prefer variety-compositions myself, but ey.. putting 2 Dreadquake Mortars in any army is gonna make it a doomstack on it's own..
Can you imagine a legendary hero doomstack? Like Ariel/Saytang/Kroak/Henry/Belegar ghost heroes all in one army? Super effort but I hope someone crazy will try it
Ariel is a exception in that you can't steal her, which is weird since you can steal Isabella and beat Vlad with her... Other than that it is not the most efficient doomstack since some heroes buff missiles which you don't have, or they have race specific buffs like Watcher buffing only Cathay units.
Yes, I can, with only one hero. My beloved level 50 Skarbrand is wiping out entire armies on his own, I kid you not, without barely ever losing any health lmao, he just stomps all over them and reigns carnage supreme. So often I do not use any of my skullcrushers or chosen, etc, they just sit there and watch, as Skarbrand boy does all the chomping, phenomenal. Blood for the blood god! Skulls for the skull throne!
Having every Bonus percentage based makes most of them kinda pointless IMO. Saytang buffs Base Missile damage by 5-10-15% and assuming the game rounds correctly, this puts the Celestial Dragonguards on +0/+1/+1 wich is basically nothing considering it`s base damage wich is affected by armor. The Unit with the highest Base missile damage are the Jade crossbowmen at 18 and even they only get +1/+2/+3. I get that they don`t want things to go too crazy but they could just use flat increases instead of these pseudo buffs at leats then you know exactly what you get. Then again +2 melee attack as a trait was deemed "too powerfull" so what do I expect
Sky junk have 50 ammo, fire rain rocket only 31. So maybe he pick them for the ammo. And they have a better los and don't hit your own troops. So debatable i think.
How to steal any hero from another faction: He needs to be immortal (so: level 20 or a legendary one). Have a military alliance or vassalize that faction so you can borrow the army he is in. Then make sure that hero dies(gets wounded) while that army belongs to you. After that, that agent will respawn into your faction and not in the allied one.

You kind of contradicted yourself with the argument against the Drum. "It gives reload but most of the time they weren't firing." Sounds like you want to increase burst damage. If that is what reload skill does, then having reload skill is good. When they DO fire, they need to obliterate the unit they are firing at as quickly as possible.

I think the sky-junk are there because they can be packed into the Yang aura or on top of the other artillery, requiring less space to deploy.
Also far less prone to friendly fire or getting jumped by magic or cav
You don't need yang unit, you can use matters of state to give harmony to everyone.

@dwmarch balloons do give a spotting bonus for forests and stealth units I think. Very useful against dark elves.

Saytang not only has Celestial Quivers for +15% ammo for the army it also has Enchanted Ammunition which is another +15%.
I just like it that it's sth else - actually strategic and not just a boring spam army :)

fun fact : as Chaos Dwarves you can befriend Order Factions despite being Chaos . I had save with befriended Cathay, Kislev and Empire .

Dreadquake mortars are probably meant to sit in front of the archers, they can be remarkably good at tanking hits (just not dealing damage back)

I'll be honest, I'd put the war drum with the artillery and only move it near the crossbowmen once the enemy closes or the artillery runs out of ammo, whichever comes first.
See, in previous total war games, I could easily enjoy a total conquest campaign regardless of history, like conquering the world as England and invading their longest reigning allies Portugal for example.
But in warhammer, I’m such a lore nerd, I’m like “nooo, Teclis would NEVER go and wipe out Bretonnia because they took marrianburg before I could” 😂😂

As for the drums they got more spells for 'free' which are usefull in addition to the yang/yin bonus which i believe also applies to the artillery?
The war drum ror is there to provide magical attack I think.
These are the doomstacks I like :) the single entity/unit spam is boring, for me.
Surprised the war drum wasnt used and commented in more, never saw Legend use its bound ability which now provides AoE perma reload speed (on top of the harmony reload bonus.)
Considering how range heavy most cathay armies are, the reload speed buff is insane. Rocket artillery shots almost too fast with it. They just burn through their ammo and melee attack for melee units is nice to habe.
The RoR offering the magic damage aura can also be really nice

Another thing is that battlefield was perfect for the army. I imagine it would be harder to use on a field where they can actually run around the sides.

i feel like the sky junks add alot of firepower while not being prone to flanking, thus decreasing the width of the army. but your critiques make sense nonetheless
I wonder how this army would do against a similar Skaven army on a 100 corruption region. With all the sneakies and the jezzails and clanrats it would make this complicated as hell.

This comp is even better with the Jade Court I think, because fortress cities plus Yuan Bo dole out so much ammunition to their armies that it ceases being a concern at all even in these huge battles.
Cathay armies are really about balance. You need the drum, cannons artillery and archers to clean. Maybe the only nuance legend missed was he couls have the lanterns closer on front they quite tanky
Unfortunate that the army losses hit when the 4th stack hadn't really hit the field yet, I would have liked to see what they could manage to hit given that some of your units were out or, or about to run out of, ammo
I wish CA would spread some of their content around to flesh out the warhammer world instead of pushing more into certain factions. I am hoping that we get the entirety of it in the end.
The cannons of cathey are much better than the empire ones. I expect CA to buff them in ToD
You mean the great cannons? They are a decent all-rounder, but struggle a bit against big infantry stacks.
They do however perform well against low entity unit stacks or sniping mages.
There is no reason why the units of the Empire are so much worse than the units of the other human factions. Almost all units which you can compare are better for Catchina or Ruslev. And i do not care about MP. Only play SP. So i want the Empire's cannons good against all units - like the Cathey ones. Cahtey and Kislev are so much better because of their monsters so the Empire need serious buffs.

Once you've got Yuan Bo rolling , it's so easy to get alliances and good relations. I've got a turn 70 odd campaign on the go and with all the bits and bobs every faction is improving with people like Dark Elves wanting alliances , it's so weird .

Okay, I get it that when the A.I thinks it will win the battle it willl just attack you BUT how f-in hard can it be to program the A.I to ALWAYS form up ALL its units and wait for reinforcements before attacking regardless of the circumstances.
The fourth army always ends up routing because of army losses, it's such a lame system.

It went well because it was almost a choke point map. On other maps the AI would have more leeway to flank you.
This was amazing to see...but i will npte the battlefield was kind of ideal. A more open map with lots of (or acne patches of) trees would cause serious problems for that artillery. And then im not sure thats enough crossbows to cover against a wide cav attack.
Saytang ranged special attack is great against blobs of infantry, terrible against lords and heroes. You shouldn't have used it against Tyrion at the start of the battle, the normal attack is better in that case.

After patch 4.2.1 Cathay xbow units have insane missile damage with their tech tree and other buffs. Celestial xbows with 100+ ranged damage deletes things so fast lol

Can you imagine a legendary hero doomstack? Like Ariel/Saytang/Kroak/Henry/Belegar ghost heroes all in one army? Super effort but I hope someone crazy will try it
Ariel is a exception in that you can't steal her, which is weird since you can steal Isabella and beat Vlad with her... Other than that it is not the most efficient doomstack since some heroes buff missiles which you don't have, or they have race specific buffs like Watcher buffing only Cathay units.
Yes, I can, with only one hero. My beloved level 50 Skarbrand is wiping out entire armies on his own, I kid you not, without barely ever losing any health lmao, he just stomps all over them and reigns carnage supreme. So often I do not use any of my skullcrushers or chosen, etc, they just sit there and watch, as Skarbrand boy does all the chomping, phenomenal. Blood for the blood god! Skulls for the skull throne!

Having every Bonus percentage based makes most of them kinda pointless IMO.
Saytang buffs Base Missile damage by 5-10-15% and assuming the game rounds correctly, this puts the Celestial Dragonguards on +0/+1/+1 wich is basically nothing considering it`s base damage wich is affected by armor.
The Unit with the highest Base missile damage are the Jade crossbowmen at 18 and even they only get +1/+2/+3.
I get that they don`t want things to go too crazy but they could just use flat increases instead of these pseudo buffs at leats then you know exactly what you get.
Then again +2 melee attack as a trait was deemed "too powerfull" so what do I expect

Sky junk have 50 ammo, fire rain rocket only 31. So maybe he pick them for the ammo. And they have a better los and don't hit your own troops. So debatable i think.

How to steal any hero from another faction:
He needs to be immortal (so: level 20 or a legendary one). Have a military alliance or vassalize that faction so you can borrow the army he is in.
Then make sure that hero dies(gets wounded) while that army belongs to you. After that, that agent will respawn into your faction and not in the allied one.

You kind of contradicted yourself with the argument against the Drum. "It gives reload but most of the time they weren't firing." Sounds like you want to increase burst damage. If that is what reload skill does, then having reload skill is good. When they DO fire, they need to obliterate the unit they are firing at as quickly as possible.

Reload Skill I think is really important for crossbows the amount they will shoot goes up a lot
