Max power nd 300-600mm/min. As many passes as needed to get through. Mdf will always have black edges as it is not the best material because it contains a lot of glue. Some mdf boards are easy to cut, some are almost impossible.

Black color is so that the laser beam does not reflect off the surface and has something to work on. You can blacken the sirface with more easily removable paint like children watercolors. You need black surface so the laser light can be absorbed. You can do stainless without blackening with the s9, but I haven't tested brass yet.

The working time heavily depends on the details and fill amount. But the machines themselves can run for hours at a time. Here I have engraved a photo which took 21 hours to complete:
      th-cam.com/video/iUTRLMqlYX4/w-d-xo.html
The fill step was very small (0.1mm) but it did it perfectly.

All decent diode lasers can do all of this! Guessing you were paid to say how great this laser was. I have never tried a mirror, but I can get the same results from my super cheap $200 no name laser. I am guessing I can do a mirror too, just never tried it.

I was not paid or got anything for this video. This video is just me having fun with this laser, because I wanted to see what it can do, and I got a lot of requests about certain materials in the comments. I have tested a lot of cheper lasers. Cheaper lasers usually fail to engrave stainless steel and ceramics and other metallic parts. I tried mirror with weaker laser and it engraved it but the engraving was not as clean because it did not have enough beam energy to cleanly burn away the coating. But Sculpfun S9 is still considered a cheap laser. Its 300$, but it performs almost as good as some 500$+ machines

@@jon9947 I got it for free to review on my website. There was no obligation from the sponsor for me to make this video.
If you listened the video, you would hear that I said that it is the only laser in this price range that can do ALL of these projects. This means that less capable machines can still do some of them. I have around 10+ laser engravers currently, ranging from 200$ to 800$. And none of the sub 400$ lasers I have is capable to engrave stainless steel half as good as the S9. This is why I said that it is the best in this price range.
The reason that the video sounds a bit like a commercial is because I have posted my affiliate link for this machine as the affiliate commission helps me to make more videos for you at no extra cost to the buyers of the machine. Plus it enables me to obtain discount coupons that benefit the viewers.
Each video takes about 50+ hours of my work, and I can't do this for free as it takes away most of my free time. I still need to work at my job 8 hours each day. TH-cam is my hobby. If you expect that someone is going to spend 300$-500$ of their own money each month and then film and edit the video for 1 month in the weekends, just to earn 30$ from youtube ad revenue from that video, then you have weird expectations.
But one thing is true and that is that all of my reviews are unbiased. I always say what I want. If I like the machine I say good things, but if I don't like something I will say it as well. On my website you can see objective performance tests of all the machines I have tested so you can compare their performance directly and buy the machine that suits your needs the most. This is why I do all of this, because manufacturer specs for these machines are all over the place and it is impossible to compare the machines using the product descriptions online.

I had great success engraving transparent acrylic. You need to paint it black first with a spray paint or better - some water soluble Tempera paint that can be easily washed off. Then the paint dries, you engrave the thing and after engraving you remove the paint. The engraving leaves a matte finish. Same procedure with glass, you just need to set the engraving speed much slower and use more power.
