    This is the Cunningar Rd (Boorowa Rd) level crossing at Cunningar, New South Wales. It is located four kilometres east of Harden, on the main line between Sydney and Melbourne.
    The signals here were installed in October 1970. Both signals had Westinghouse LED lights which replaced the original McKenzie & Holland lights in 2007. The signal on the northern side of the crossing had a WRRS/GRS Type D gate mechanism and a McKenzie & Holland teardrop bell which rang from start up until the gates had lowered. The signal on the southern side had a WRRS/GRS Type B gate mechanism and a Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell which rang from start up until the gates rose.
    In early 2017 the teardrop bell on the northern signal was replaced by a new Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell which can be seen in this video • Update: Cunningar and ...
    Then in early 2018 these signals were ripped out and the crossing upgraded with new signals which can be seen in this video • Level Crossing Update,...

    I like how the teardrop bells make a clicking noise whenever the hammer hits the dong. Also, did you notice how the lights on the signal with the WCH bell turn on slightly earlier than the one with the teardrop bell?

    2:35 bell looks really thick!
    4:18 sounds odd with a deep bell ,and an American type bell!
    5:52 those diesels look older than the ones at 7:22!
    7:13 that horn sounds good!
    7:27 those box cars look old!

    • @McKHAust

      The thick looking bell is an Australian made version of the US&S teardrop bell. There was originally 2 of them but one wore out and was replaced by an American bell. The diesels on the first train were made in the 1960's and the ones on the second train were made in the 1990's. I think the box cars were made in the 1970's.

    Nice teardrop! I think it needs a little TLC though
    I was going to suggest the crossing in Kooragang which has two bells on the same mast - One mounted on top of the overhead signal, and one on the 'usual' part of the mast !! It's not as interesting now that the Westinghouse bells have been replaced with BORING Safetran E-bells

      Apparently, the Teardrop bell here has been replaced with a WCH m-bell.

      Shame. At least it wasn't a victorian crossing! I wonder how the bells in Junee are going

    • @McKHAust
      @McKHAust  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It certainly has been, replaced by a brand new WCH mechanical bell. The teardrop was still there in early February when I went past, so it's only happened very recently.

    • @McKHAust
      @McKHAust  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No change to the bells at Junee, both teardrops are still there and the working one sounds quite weak. If they are waiting for the second one to die so they can replace both at once, they probably won't have to wait very long!
