  • This is the Grange Rd level crossing in Carnegie, on the Dandenong corridor, with footage I took in March 2017 (before) and February 2018 (after). This crossing has since been grade separated, with trains running over the new Grange road bridge on the 18th June 2018.
In the months after I first filmed it in March 2017, this crossing was modified and upgraded to accommodate sky-rail during its construction. The new crossing had:
Two Westinghouse Hybrid bells (which were original). The bell on the southern side was programmed to sound out after the boom gates lowered. The bell on the northern side was programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rose
Westinghouse cross-arms on the southern boom gate mechanism and McKenzie & Holland cross-arms on the northern boom gate mechanism and the individual signal on the south eastern side of the crossing. The Westinghouse cross-arms replaced McKenzie & Holland cross-arms
Marked Westinghouse lights on all the crossing. These lights replaced unmarked McKenzie & Holland lights. All lights were upgraded to LED's, when previously all lights were incandescent
Siemens boom gate mechanisms. The mechanism on the southern side had an unmarked base (which replaced a Westinghouse base), while the mechanism on the northern side had a McKenzie & Holland base. The southern boom gate mechanism was shifted slightly to the north, and the boom gate arm on this signal had a folding mechanism at the tip, which extended when the boom gate lowered and retracted when the boom gate rose. This was to prevent the arm from contacting with the overhead sky-rail bridge being constructed
The individual signal had an unmarked base
I have already uploaded a video of this crossing before, with its old infrastructure, so if you want to see more footage of the crossing, see that video:

this crossing actually used to have a Mck&H teardrop bell. if you go to grange rd carnegie, and go (i think) between 2009 and 2007, you'll see one of the crossings had a teardrop bell!

0.04 - I used to live at 1 Lorne St when it was the single story 1940's house - the owner, Jerry Bonham botched the house in his so-called "Renovations" - He was more of a dreamer than a do'er. Behind the house was a single story (former) Milkbar shop, but Jerry was using it for his state-of-the-art printing company. Good to see both buildings have passed into history, but my haunting memories still remain, unfortunately.

It's nice that they kept the hybrid bells :)

1:05 nice catch of a double pass!
1:59 is that 2-color traffic light for the crossing? It looks similar to german railroad crossing lights!
7:42 that horn sounds moke like a K5LA, but still like a sick bird!
I noticed the pedestrian alarms sound similar to the ones at Clarendon! Which also sound like the alarms on level crossings on the Ffestinog railway!
The alarms seem to also sound faster when a 2nd train is approaching!

Double passes are quite common in this area, the trains are sooo frequent. It's a bit weird the 2-colour system. They're for the crossing, and they're meant to prevent traffic from blocking the crossing when it activates. There's literally traffic lights just past the crossing, and it regularly has traffic backing up, so it makes sense to have this system installed

Oh, the McK&H Aust one? Sadly they and a side signal are the only original infrastructure left. Both gated signals now have the new style signage and electronic bells (WCH)
