For us Americans, some of our old analog and hybrid bells sound with a quick pace, as more often than not, we’re familiar with fast bells. Cheers from America, mate!
6:15 (this part is correct I'm assume) the bell shat itself while the crossing was still working. Information below this is incorrect besides the edit of this comment Not actually a failure. Crossings can be programmed to have the bell ring and then have the bell shut off after the gate is down and not come back on And I think the Pedestrian Alarm is always on. That particular one looks to be an export and rebuild of an older American Crossing Edit:I know nothing on Australian Railroad crossings btw I'm assuming most are exported American crossings
I've filmed the crossing before, and on other activations the bell stayed on the whole time, it just gave up that time, so it failed. Vic crossings work different then American crossings
I am disappointed that so many new Safetran Type 3s are already failing in Australia. I haven't seen much video of American ones so I don't know if they have the same problem over here. I do know that the General Signals type 1s on crossings near me are still healthy, so I guess the Australian weather took a toll on them. I've seen quite a few American crossings intentionally go completely silent once the gates have lowered, but all the Australian ones I have seen do so due to faulty bells.
Siemens/Safetran Type 3's can last anywhere between 2 weeks and still alive, some factors include how the crossing is wired, there's one crossing in Lara, Victoria which has killed over 10 ST3's in the last few years, this signal probably has some sort of wiring fault that needs to be addressed. The most faulty part of an ST3 is the speaker, so it's a mix of a whole lot of things. Another reason there is so many faulty clips of them here is because Australia is chockers full of them, its like some area's of America with NEG's but worse. Funnily enough, the first GS1's to be installed in Australia are the last GS1's to exist on a crossing lol! GS1's are built quite well, they have outlasted a lot of GS2's here.
Majority of australia's lights are made by Westinghouse which is an australian company and they only made 8in lights. South Australia has some 12in lights.
