I have my violin grade 5 notes tomorrow.....I’m very nervous. And sometimes I can nail remembering the melody but if I’m distracted by like a footstep or something - I get distracted from the melody😭. I’ve definitely improved but still thinking abt the repetition of the melody is scary😬
Try to draw the shape of the melody in your mind as you hear it ie where it rises and where it falls, where it moves by step and where it leaps. You can then repeat the shape in your response, even if there are slips in notes.

It’s not easy. Keep working at it and you will improve. Imagine the direction of the melody in your head.

How about if one has to repeat it on the drums?
You can’t repeat a melody on the drums. You would have to sing or hum or whistle.

It’s really about developing pitching confidence and memory skills. Repetition will help achieve both.

Take your pieces but don’t bother with any other books.
