Dear Gareth, Here is a little trick I use for the Lines of the Treble Clef. "Every Good Boy Deserves FISH AND CHIPS" (Which gives you the two ledger line notes above the treble Clef.) Jeff (Australia)
I can read pitches on the treble clef or g clef and bass clef or f clef both line notes and spaces and line notes. Please do a tutorial on reading rhythms as i need to work on rhythmic patterns
Middle C "because it's in the middle of the piano keyboard"? I always thought it was because it was slap in the middle between the treble and bass clefs :)
How can I convert my vocal singing into a melody? I mean how can I find out which notes I'm singing? Do you recommend any videos which cover this subject?
@@MusicMattersGB .Most grateful for the reply. I assume that when you say" above middle C " you mean the C positioned in the middle of the piano. Is this the accepted orthodoxy for all the major scales, that is, one doesn't start at an octave higher or lower. As a beginner I find some of the terminology somewhat confusing, if not ambiguous and ill defined. Any clarification is most welcome, and thank you.
You can start a scale anywhere but that G on the second line of the treble clef stave is the G above middle C. (Middle C is on an extra line below the treble clef stave.)
I’m having real trouble sight reading in my exams. I wear very strong varifocals and the music is too high on the grand piano. To see through the reading bit in my glasses my head is tilted backwards and if I have to look at the keys while playing I’m too slow. If I move quickly I start to feel sick! I really want to continue with piano as I’m only at Grade 2. Have you known anyone with this problem? I’m about to rig up some kind of pulley so I could perhaps lower the music, but I wondered if there is anything better out there.
Tricky one. You may need separate piano playing glasses that are a single lens. On the other hand it’s good to learn to sight read without looking at your hands.
Spare a thought for us poor tenors! We are forever being switched between an octavo-treble and bass clef, often (and Oxford Music are especially culpable here) three or four times in the same piece. I suppose it makes us versatile :(
Dear Sir , When appearing for Sight reading for diploma under ABRSM, for Singing is it important for Singers to play the piano accompaniment while reading and performing the piece or can we singing the melody only without having to worry about the accompaniment, keeping the rhythm, pitch, dynamics and the phrasings correct?

Tom Mccarron me too
Yes, but if the second line up is a G, which one? In what octave would you assign to this G? Confused!
It’s the G above middle C.
