    E Aural Trainer - A little trick for Grades 4-7 ABRSM Aural.
    The last part of the ABRSM Aural Tests at Grades 4-7 is to clap a rhythm of a phrase played by the examiner and then state the whether it is in 2, 3 or 4 time (or for Grade 7 in 6/8 time). The trick to getting a “head start” on this question is to think about the answer even before the examiner plays the phrase. “How is that possible?” you may ask. Well the phrase will come from a piece you have already heard. Before this question was one based on certain musical features of the piece such as tonality, style, period, texture etc.
    Then the examiner will play a phrase from the same piece for you to clap the rhythm and state how many beats in a bar. SO THINK ABOUT THIS PART OF THE TEST ON THE FIRST PLAYING.

      I'm sure it will be fine. By human nature we tend to focus on the negative, but the examiners are looking for the positive also. You might find this article on the subject encouraging from my blog www.music-online.org.uk/2017/12/getting-your-exam-results-vs-your.html

    • @Ozrockerie
      @Ozrockerie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've completed AMEB 5th grade classical. That tune I played at leisure - it was among my grandmothers classical music books and I taught myself to play it many years ago. I'm a bit rusty on my playing currently. Later this year I plan to return to piano lessons - moving over to the contemporary grades.

      Listen for the strong beat and decide if it occurs every 2, 3 or beats. I have other videos in this E Aural Trainer playlist that practice this skill.

    I thought you were suppose to count all the notes in the bar to find out what time signature it is ? Very strange some people yeah it that way , can be so confusing.

    • @MusicOnlineUK
      @MusicOnlineUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the number of notes can vary, the "BEAT" always stays the same.

    Before the tests with the big pieces where you answer questions, do they tell you what questions you’re being asked ?

    • @MusicOnlineUK
      @MusicOnlineUK  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they will tell you what specific characteristics to look out for, e.g. dynamics, articulation etc, but won't ask you about the time YET. However you know this question is coming so you can also prepare for this.
