Oh Sir ! You’re the best professor of music of the Net, you’re explanation of music is outstanding. I’ve been studying music for 5 months from different sites and you just blow them away with your approach and theory that is so easy to understand from a beginner like me .I’m 65 years old and never played piano of my life, but you’re giving me the strength and courage to pursue my dream of playing piano and understanding music . Thank you so much Garreth for your patience and teaching skills.
I am very grateful for your selfless contribution. This is a video of a beginner practicing listening. There are still very clear steps underneath what you said. It was very useful to me.
Gareth, I was told to move my lips and not make a sound from the 3rd Primary until 2nd Secondary. I tried to enroll in a singing for beginners course in universtiy since an opera singer friend said I should at least develop a stage voice. I was devestated when the singing professor asked me if it wasn't too late to be refunded. When I found out it was, she profusedly apologized, but the damage was done. I joked with people and told them I was born with two left ears. And I started playing the piano last year. And I sang along with you. Which was a major accomplishmeht. I'm not ready for the Grade 1 exam, maybe in another year. But I'm going to succeed. Merci beaucoup.
That’s a terrible earlier experience - sadly one that is repeated too often. Absolutely brilliant that you’re now able to take your music in a positive direction.
Thanks so much! My exam is in 2 days and I am a bit nervous, I watched this video because I can sing well but I am not as confident with aurel EXAMS so this video really really helped!!
VERY HELPFUL THING! If you are going/have gone through puberty, you CAN ask the examiner to change the range of scales down/up! So you won't just awkwardly fail to sing the higher notes!

Hello, Thank you for uploding such a clear video, it's helped me a lot. I have never taken an abrsm test before and I don't know which grade I should start with, because in terms of pieces I can play grade 5, and for the rest (aural and sight reading)I have never had training. I would happily start at the beginning with grade one but the exams are very expensive. So I was wondering if starting at grade 2 or 3, without having a teacher or previous exam experience would be suicide. Thank you in advance.
A pleasure. Much more at www.mmcourses.co.uk including details of our 25 online courses and of our Maestros programme. You’ll find courses on each grade of Aural Tests on our site which would be a much cheaper option for you.
I have my auditions for my middle school tomorrow and I’m stressing out sooooo much. Even though this video is a little hard to understand, I feel much more confident for tomorrow
That’s great. Yes solfege is a possibility as long as you’re really fluent in the use of it. For some people having to think of solfege names is just another challenge but for those who are used to it it’s helpful. See www.mmcourses.co.uk for access to our online courses.

Love the videos, just watched the one in grade 6 about cadences. Was hoping to go through all the videos methodically, where can I find Grade 1 Aural Lesson 1? It doesn't seem to be coming up in a search. Thanks.
Ahhhhh, thought they were all on TH-cam for free! There's always a catch! I'm a poor student though so unfortunately won't be downloading the bundles. I get these kind of lessons already in person, was just hoping for a little bit of TH-cam homework. Thanks anyway, you're a great teacher.
+Billy Bones Sorry about that... You don't need to buy the bundles. The individual grades are not expensive if that helps. Good luck with your studies. Maybe some kind relative would buy you a bundle for Christmas or your next birthday?

Hi my keyboard exam is on friday coming and when were singing can you sing an octave lower/higher but the same note?
No problem. Sing in your most comfortable octave.
Good luck!
Thanks sir! Do u have a grade 8 level singing back a phrase thingy? Cheers🎉

What if the breathe you take makes you miss the correct timing?

The phrases are quite short so breathe before each phrase and you will be fine.
Thank you sir

Isn’t a key code just for pitch or volume
The key chord just helps you to locate the key before you sing in that key.
