Thank you so much for explaining modulation. I am studying for my ABRSM grade 7 guitar and my brain just could not cope with learning modulation, however, you have shown a really simple way to understand and this and has helped me enormously. Thank you so much

A brilliant lesson. I have some Intermediate skills but I'm not yet at a Grade 1 level. So I study, and listen to these excellent lessons. My ear training is my weak point. And yet I was able to follow this lesson with several correct answers.
Did I mention that you are a brilliant teacher, Gareth? You have helped many people, judging by the comments. You have the most respectful comments section on You Tube. That is a tribute to your personality.

Hiya... I need some help as I'm driving myself a bit nuts.
We are working with subdominant as 4 and dominant as 5 right? I answered 3 correctly. BUT that last example for instance sounds more like a 6th to me. Why is that happening???

Hi. Make sure you're listening to the bass line rather than to the top part. And apply the technique of singing the original tonic to see if it fits the last chord or not. If you want a Skype lesson we could get to the bottom of what's what. All the best.

+Genevieve Radley Hi. This is focused on ABRSM but most of it is completely relevant to the Trinity syllabus too. The films are mainly about the musical knowledge. See www.mmcourses.co.uk for more. Good luck!

For some reason I got it in my head that the dominant chord had the tonic in, and wondered why I kept getting dominant and subdominant the wrong way around 😂
I struggle identifying the modulation when the piece starts in a minor key
