that Paul said that or that he is indeed one of the great songwriter of our times !~! i agree he's one of the great songwriters coming out of the 90's and there may be some truth to what was said there seems to be some variation on that story in different mediums !!~! CHEERS!
@@warriorus1163 Exactly. In fact, the post above yours even gives it away because Neil Finn did not come out of the 90s, he got his start during the 70s. It's just that he had continued success in the 90s.
Debonaire Nerd yes great point. I'm a fan of Neil, but people have a thing about making certain people or artists bigger than they are. Neil is a great artist, but not even close to Paul, and out of all the great songwriters, McCartney wouldn't pick Neil. I only have information via internet supplied to me that Paul denied it. I'll believe it for now. Great taking music
Neil Finn....a genius. Great songwriter and singer. Crowded House has been, for 35 years, one my favorite bands ever and no doubt he'll be a legend. Thanks for posting!
This is 1 of the best renditions of this song ever. I'm from Scotland and we always had to sing a song at house parties and my brother and I always practised our harmonies before we sang a crowded house song (our party piece) 😀 My brother is 5yrs gone and I still do my harmonises part to theses songs when I hear them 😪😪
Too funny. I was listening to a song by a friend's band today and I thought it sounded like both this and The Drugs Don't Work. And here I find this clip with Neil opening with The Verve. Love it.
This song is so so wonderfull, wow he never said they stole it,he just said it sounds like So many tasteful licks from Roddy Frame. Hugely talented guitarist
Three great musicians playing together is a treat to watch! Neil, as always, brilliant song. His music has a way of grabbing your emotions and pulling you into a multitude of personal feelings.
Neil and brother Tim did a live acoustic version of this song at KCRW (Santa Monica) back in 1988. I have a cassette tape, titled "It's Only Safe At Home", with this and many other great KCRW live studio recordings on it, received as a fundraiser premium in 1989. Precious.
Saw Neil Finn in The Valley, Brisbane, 2001. It was his "One - Neil" tour. So natural, so personable. In one of his songs he said, "I might need a little bit of help with the chorus. Does anybody know the words? " A few people joined him on the stage. It was a small, intimate venue and great atmosphere. It was almost like the guy and a few of his friends had dropped around and were having a jam session in your lounge room. When he finished the song, with his impromptu backing singers, and the rest of the audience joining in, he got a rousing round of applause with his comment, "Choice, eh? " A great night. An even greater talent.
Stumbled upon this playlist when searching for Crowded House, and it was an unexpected joy to see you had put it together! Really enjoyed this, great job! Eileen
Words can not describe how much respect I have for Neil Finn I have been lucky to have seen both crowded house and Neil Solo here In Dublin where he hangs out sometimes
He comes from my hometown, Hamilton, New Zealand! I agree with you - fantastic writer and performer unlike the popcorn artists (if you can call them that) of today who have their songs written for them.
Thanks for sharing KeeFHiDefVideos. I've got all the albums, but sometimes it's nice to listen to such musical genius with my beloved, even when she's a million miles away.
He's kind of a Tom Petty, or a Springsteen from Down Under. It knocks me out, watching his stuff on TH-cam, and hearing a stadium full of people singing every word to his songs. People really soak it in. It's a beautiful thing. He's a brilliant songwriter.
I’m learning this to sing at present. I really like listening to different versions, I’m glad Neil said the bridge chords were a bit more tricky, I’m plodding my way through them, haven’t got it yet. Lovely song though. I’ll sing it publicly next week at an open mic. I’d love to write something as pretty as this song. Kia ora Neil! :-)

I often play these 2 songs together when gigging (Drugs don't work and Better be home soon). Both great acousticly. Also Imagine (John Lennon) and Distant Sun are quite interchangable... I'm sure there are many more.

The Verve Drugs Dont Work . Genius musician - Richard Ashcroft..along with Neio Finn. Genius musicians.
When Paul McCartney was asked what it was like to be the world's best"living songwriter"Macca replied" you better ask Neil Finn!" High praise indeed.

Fake news.
McCartney was asked recently - he denied the quote.

Nice improvising in there, and the perfect tune to end a great performance. It's been one of my favourite CH songs for donkeys and never gets old.
He is great. This was live and perfecto. Wonderful song.
I know these bands still have a million fans but they don't seem to exist in the world anymore if you know what I mean. Beautiful song
Neil Finn and Roddy Frame, the two greatest lyric led songwriters of all time on the same stage. thank you youtube, im so happy i got to see this!!!
Absolutely flawless performance.
One of the best songs ever written and this rendition is gorgeous, just perfect, loved the improv guitar solo as well.
Yep

The fact he’s likened this track to The Drugs has made me fall in love with it even more 👏🏼

True poetry and musical genius. They were never appreciated as much as they deserved. Musical genius!
Damn you Neil Finn, I've always been an Agnostic/atheist, then I listen to someone like you and think there's no way that came from evolution.
This is the beauty of INFINITE possibility .Enjoy it while you can 🎶
It's magical either way.
There has to be a first cause. It's not a 'being', it's Eternity itself.
13th century philosophy.
A wealth of musical heritage and knowledge.
Neil is still the best! It’s 2020, but when he starts with the Ashcroft, (sigh) be still my beating heart!! Two favs!
