I used to frequent a cafe just around the corner from Neils studio, one day my mate and I were out the back door having a ciggie and teaching him how to play "Four Seasons In One Day" on the guitar when suddenly my mate had this embarrassed grin on his face, I turned around and there was Neil behind me listening to me butcher his song. I immediately bowed in reverence and presented him the guitar to which he replied "keep going mate, you play it better than I do" Yeah Right.

Powerful yet flawless voice, that's before you take the songwriting and guitarist ability into account. Just an incredible musician.

He has such a knack for single lines that just stick in your head. "When your seven worlds collide, "The finger of blame has turned upon itself," and of course "try to catch the deluge in a paper cup."
Saw them in Cincinnati on the Woodface tour. Was such a great show. I think it's the only time I've been to a concert where the band seemed to really enjoy playing. They were just having a great time.
They didn't give him an OBE for nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a Knighthood before too long.

This is unbelievable talent. To pull that song off live, flawlessly and better than the recording is incredible. This whole show is up there with one of the best live performances ever. All three are unbelievable.

Neil Finn writes lyrics that bring forth life into the world. You can feel his soul when he sings, and the band is a force that can't be ignored. Inspiring, and a blessing to us all. When I listen to their music my mind fills up like a crowded house.

This is one of the most beautiful and amazing songs ever. I discovered it on a compilation album as a child, possibly Now 26. It used to be the song I’d go back to over and over. 30 something years later and it still means so much to me.
i think as i grew up i took songs like this for granted. maybe im just getting old but im coming back to these classics and getting blown away by them. maybe its just nostagia

I love this song.Here's a story.Many years ago I was in a very Foreign and exotic country were I didn't speak the Language nor did I know my way around. I was very much alone & far from home.I found myself needing to get across town so I got into a cab & told the driver the name of the street & the address sat back & hoped for the best.The rather Scrofulous looking driver turned on the radio & this song came on.A wave of Tranquility came over me as I lost myself in it's Melody and Imagery.

I was surfing with him in Byron Bay when I was about 15. I couldn't place his face but I turned to him and said are you in a band? He said yeh Crowded House and I was absolutely thrilled. You bring tears to my eyes when ever I hear any of your songs. Thank you Sir our fine Kiwi friend...

Perfect. ‘You’re still so young to have travelled so far, old enough to know who you are...’ That line always makes me think of my daughter; she was born just after this song came out, and I always think of this song and specifically that line when I think of her growing into a woman and finding her own way in life. She’s 24 now. I can’t listen to this song without feeling that familiar prickling behind my eyelids. It’s one of my all time favourites and I think Neil Finn is a solid gold genius.
It's easy to make comparisons of his songwriting to Lennon and McCartney, but I would go one further and compare him to Paul Simon. That line in particular is very Paul Simonesque.

You can have a thousand Marshall stacks but the most powerful thing remains one voice, one guitar, and a song that cuts you to the bone.
This performance had a very special impact on me as a young adult and I watched it many times. I'd only been into Crowded House and Neil for a year or two when this originally aired. Distant Sun was by far my favourite of his songs, maybe my favourite of all time, and this was the ultimate acoustic version. The strength, little bit of grit and emotion in his voice combined with clean, solid strumming and the acoustic solo. Perfect.

Wow...that voice...magical. I loved this when I was younger I am now rediscovering Neil and Crowded House all over again....and it’s even better this time around.
...and he is an extraordinary rhythm accompanist, not just guitarist - absolutely exquisite chord voicing and phrasing for each song, subtle not to interfere but so interesting to play. Those Finn boys have got the haunting voices and songs that will keep a flame alight inside ya !

as an Australian/Amercian I listen to you alot. you give me such emotional help when I miss Australia. my Yankee Husband says Him again,you play him all the time.but my aussie daughter and I can't get enough of him.he has a purity to his songs.and his voice is so soothing.he brings us comfort.I know he's a kiwi but he so aussie too. I love him and I know the sacrifice it takes on him and his family. He makes the world feel happy inside. we love you Neil you are our Hero.

Distant sun. Don’t dream it’s over. Finding great pleasure in these old 80’s by Crowded House, are they Aussies, Kiwis or a blend, I’m not quite sure, down under anyway. They’ve managed to produce some incredible songs touching my Swedish soul, and somehow made it everlasting, that must be quality in songwriting.
Funny how one miles apart connect in cords and harmonies, must be a deep culture thing, can’t be only the language, can it…
When I hear a song like this, it makes me sad...because I know I'll never write anything this beautiful. Well done, Mr. Finn.

I saw Crowded House in Liverpool England in 1992, amazing. Neil Finn, super talented musician. And hes from New Zealand where i grew up too. :) Though im living in England now enjoying infrequent sunny weather and good pints of real ale ;)

Crowded house and his voice got me through some of the toughest times in my life. Thank you guys. Prob saved my life more than once. Actually thats not true. You saved my moms abusive husbands life but i dont hold that against yall. Ron you should be their biggest fan! Had i not changed the disk to crowded house from the cult who knows. You might not have been so lucky.

In my opinion, one of the best bands out there and songwriters .
I was fortunate enough to see Neil perform this live. One of my favourite songs, i'll never forget it. I recall a review of the album described it as "being mugged by angels", that's how I felt listening to Neil sing.
