  • A hot bite over a few morning sessions off the Gold Coast seen us go 10/10 on the mackerel I had a different mate on board every morning to target their first Spanish Mackerel. We had Tweed Bait bonito and garfish on board with plan of slow trolling them around the 18fathom mark.
    I have 6 x set ups on board when targeting mackerel 2x for trolling that I switch between dead baits and hardbodies.
    1.
    Rod: Wilson live fibre 7''/0H 8-15kg
    Reel: Shimano TLD25
    Line: Berkey Suffix 50lb 800mtrs
    2.
    Rod: Wilson live fibre 7'/0H 8-15kg
    Reel: Avet LX6/3
    Line: Tasline 50lb 700mtrs
    2 x set ups for live baiting that I try to keep rigged ready to go as you never know when a big fish may show up next to the boat that you can then send a live down on his nose. also a heavy set-up or two for throwing lures.
    3.LIVE BAIT SET UP
    Rod: Shimano Jewel
    Reel: Shimano Charter special
    Line: Tasline 30lb
    4.- LIVE BAIT SET UP AND SMALL SPIN ROD
    Rod: Blood Demon
    Reel: ATC 4500
    Line:
    5. LURE SET UP - POPPERS STICKBAITS
    Rod: Blood Demon
    Reel: Daiwa Saltiga 10,000
    Line: Tasline 50lb
    6. BAIT JIG SET UP
    Rod: Daiwa Saltist
    Reel: Daiwa Saltiga 4500

    Great vid. Tip: always have boat in forward gear - fish comes along side from rear. They’ll do circles if you go to neutral.

    Your TH-cam channel is beautiful and interesting, thank you I have a question..? Does the fish bite the bait from the head or from the tail?

    • @LivingFreeFishing
      @LivingFreeFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Spanish tend to attack their prey from behind most of the time disabling the fish by biting it in half then swinging back round to eat the other half

    Enjoyed watching your video and the tips. What speed is working for you trolling live and dead bait? Thank you

    • @LivingFreeFishing
      @LivingFreeFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I troll live bait just in gear so about 2-3kph and dead baits I vary speeds I like to pre swim the bait first and adjust your speed till the bait is swimming how you want it then send it back into the line up

      @@LivingFreeFishing that sounds good. Thanks for the reply. I’ll try this out. I was thinking about trying this deep too for grouper using downriggers.
      Sometimes it was hard to hear what you were saying during the heavy rain. How heavy was the jig head you were using? Who makes the weighted hooks?
      You call the fish Spanish mackerel. I was wondering if that’s what we call in the Gulf of Mexico king mackerel.
      Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it.

    How fast (knots) for trolling?

  • @fisherman7834
    @fisherman7834 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    are you just covering ground randomly or trolling like a ledge or reef?
    Cheers from Oman

    • @LivingFreeFishing
      @LivingFreeFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A little of both we troll lures up to the grounds we intend on fishing as we can cover ground faster and still fish once we arrive at the intended reef/ledge then we tend to slow troll baits to get the bites and catch the larger fish.
