  • Part 2. of a hot bite over a few morning sessions off the Gold Coast seen us go 10/10 on the mackerel I had a different mate on board every morning to target their first Spanish Mackerel. We had Tweed Bait bonito and garfish with plan of slow trolling them around the 18fathom mark.
I have 6 x set ups on board when targeting mackerel 2x for trolling that I switch between dead baits and hardbodies.
    1.
Rod: Wilson live fibre 7''/0H 8-15kg
    Reel: Shimano TLD25
    Line: Berkey Suffix 50lb 800mtrs
    2.
Rod: Wilson live fibre 7'/0H 8-15kg
    Reel: Avet LX6/3
    Line: Tasline 50lb 700mtrs
2 x set ups for live baiting that I try to keep rigged ready to go as you never know when a big fish may show up next to the boat that you can then send a live down on his nose. also a heavy set-up or two for throwing lures.
    3.LIVE BAIT SET UP
    Rod: Shimano Jewel
    Reel: Shimano Charter special
    Line: Tasline 30lb
4.- LIVE BAIT SET UP AND SMALL SPIN ROD
    Rod: Blood Demon
    Reel: ATC 4500
    Line:
    5. LURE SET UP - POPPERS STICKBAITS
    Rod: Blood Demon
    Reel: Daiwa Saltiga 10,000
    Line: Tasline 50lb
    6. BAIT JIG SET UP
    Rod: Daiwa Saltist
    Reel: Daiwa Saltiga 4500

One other thing I’ve been undecided on is those crimps. They worry me every time I think of using them and end up doing my sort of sad version of a Bimini twist, usually bent as. I wonder on the crimps strength under duress. Just something squashed down to hold it. Like no knots nuffin else ? You took a lot of time squeezing yours. Can you over squeeze them. When do you feel confident that it won’t let you down. Can your line get cut on it like improperly finished Bimini twists.
I’ve got plenty and certainly quicker than the bimini twist and finishing it off properly. I’m about over it. Thanks for your help guys. Is that the Goldy?

Do you make the rigs as simple as possible. What do you think of snap swivels or any swivel like between main leader and wire (get bitten or scare fish off?)? Cheers Mick at Noosa.

Yeah I make and sell the rigs mate I only have the one swivel from the wire to leader no snap swivel above the leader as yeah it will create a bubble trail and may get bitten off either a wind on leader or a FG knot 🪢 👍
If your interested in some rigs the website is down atm just inbox me on Insta or facey

Hey mate. Just a question, do you troll at random 30+ meter marks or do you troll at 30 meter ledges?

    • @LivingFreeFishing
      @LivingFreeFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I troll on bait grounds and reef/ledges that will hold bait that’s where the mackerel will tend to hang but I also troll when I’m heading to intended fishing grounds you can find new ground doing this and where the fish will be hanging.
