00:26 James L: When you were an employee, how did you decide whether to move on to another job? I think a similar dilemma exists when you're trying to decide whether to move your own business into another phase.

I always over committed. Even declining an administrator position with a competitor out of a sense of duty to my co-workers only to be laid off 8 months later.
You need to make the decisions that are right for you. Nobody else is going to advocate for your best interest and in the end you may end up regretting not saying yes at the time especially if it's a move up as opposed to a lateral.

I think you’ll have a hard time getting a job if you have a track record of staying only 3 to 6 months in one company. If that’s your plan just do contract work.

He didn’t say you have to jump ship every 3-6 months. He said you interview that often. This is so you stay sharp and always have something in your back pocket. It’s good advice and I believe that current average for a dev career field is 1.3 years before hopping.
