The devs shared yesterday that the game was supposed to have upto 13 chapters. However, due to their lack of self experiences and resources (nums of devs and money...), they had to cut it off, maybe they'd submit them through future DLCs. They also noted that they will try to fix certain major bugs (invisible walls,...) soon
I just heard this morning that they’re already planning DLC, probably will release soon. Yeah I was kind of bummed it was only 6 chapters. But considering they spend 7 years and 400 millons RMB, I guess investors need to see some results.
@@xueshang1035 yeah i mean this is their 3rd title. the first 1 was a crappy mobile game. 2nd was a decent rts. i doubt investors thought highly of them making a fully fleshed AAA title like this. hopefully this success brings more DLC or sequels in the future. having a studio be able to make games like this is a blessing for the gaming industry.
This. I think the move to another game might not be as good as trying to complete this Wukong franchise in about 2 installations. Now they have learned so much and have also made so much money to either fuel a groundbreaking DLC or a sequel that is fully realized in potential.
I’m only on the 2nd chapter and 5 chapters already seem like a decent amount. Can’t imagine there being 13 chapters lol. Granted I only play a few hours each day and souls games aren’t my forte.

As a Chinese player, I can say that Journey to the West is a household name in China, known by everyone from 80-year-old elders to 5-year-old children. BMW (Black Myth: Wukong) is so popular not only because it is China's first AAA game, but also because it incorporates a lot of cultural elements, regional music, and more. Many structures in the game, such as statues and temples, are faithfully recreated on a 1:1 scale based on real-life counterparts. It is this high quality and rich cultural content that has attracted many Chinese people, including those who have never played games before, to take an interest in this one. However, as the first AAA game from Game Science, I admit there are still some shortcomings, such as invisible walls, optimization issues, and so on. Therefore, I don't want it to be overly hyped in China or other countries. Sharing a game and its cultural elements with other countries is a joyful thing, but I hope everyone can approach it with a rational perspective.
well depends honestly, games like witcher 3 / skyrim / cyberpunk still have thousands of players YEARS after release, they are best example of games that can defend themselves with being good and thriving playerbase, so good singleplayer games like wukong, even if not as replayable as these games, and hardly comparable to rpg should still hold decent player base, of course not as big as cyberpunk, but a portion of that for sure. EDIT: milions of comments about how I can't compare rpg to wukong, apparently people read cyberpunk and end reading the fucking comment - i even wrote it myself that it's hardly comparable.. just gave top examples of games that are alive after years, and noticed that wukong will be lower due to not being rpg too.

Technically, it's not really about Journey to the West. It's what the developers think would happen after Journey to the West, hence the opening line "my master, safe; the scriptures, sound." All the original developers are Journey to the West enthusiasts, so enthusiastic to the point that they'd have hundreds of hours of arguments over what they envision would happen after the journey even off-work even just as friends instead of colleagues, given how their own understanding of Sun Wukong as a character differ. Also technically, it's not their first game as they made their first game Asura (The Victorious Fighting Budda/God), which is an MMORPG also under the setting of Journey to the West, at Tencent before they quit the company when they realized they'd never creat the game they really wanted at Tencent. From Black Myth, you can tell how much they love the story and the characters and how much love and care they've poured into this. Ironically, the Tencent game Asura, which used to have a lot of potential when it was first released more than 10 years ago, is completely in the dust now despite still running at the moment. *Edit A small fun fact: Tencent is actually a shareholder of Game Science, but only 5% under the specific clause of 3 NOs, aka "not interfering with decision-making on how the studio is run (不干预运营决策), not trying to be the dominating force/voice throughout the entire the project（不抢占项目主导), and not pursuing the marketing/monetization right of the game (不寻求发行运营). Guess as former employees, the developers know too damn well what Tencent would do to their beloved game if it's a majority holder. *Edit 2 I think one big reason this game is received so well, at least in China (you gotta understand Chinese gamers are super duper critical of their own Chinese games too, just look at some of the most poorly rated games on Steam), on top of the fact that it's a good game and also arguably the first China's original AAA game, is the rebelliousness and free spirit embedded in Sun Wukong and some other characters (Red boy, for example) throughout the game, unlike the original Journey to the West where it's more about how they are being tamed and disciplined. Chinese young adults need to feel that sometimes somewhere even if it's just in a video game and even if they still need to drag themselves to a 30-floor office building at 8 a.m. the next day. And don't ask me why I know it because I'm one of them.

Awesome, I hope they do a prequel for this and re-create the actual Journey to the west story... and that would be awesome. And they can even expand on the number of player characters to 4, Wukong, Pigsy, Sandy, White Dragon.

The fact that a Chinese game developer transcribing an influential Chinese folk tale into the video game medium is triggering the overly sensitive, PC cancel culture vultures is peak irony. This is many peoples first exposure to this story, and it’s hugely successful. If celebrating diversity and honoring other cultures was actually these peoples goal, you’d think they’d be happy about a game like this.

Yes the graphics are great and movement is really fluid, but i think i will not get that game. In a souls game i like ARMOR and SHIELDS and SWORDS and KNIGHT style looks etc ( bad ass heavy armor looks ) ... some dark stuff too like in LOTF.... this monkey game with just a stick weapon simply doesn't excite me , despite the gameplay looks really good. Maybe i get it when the game is on sale, but probably not. At the time it will be on sales i bet there are new souls like games out, with cool armor and swords and shields.
Crazy how Wukong added its haters into the game as an early optional boss. (blue big headed baby that throws a tantrum when its attacks fail and it gets hit)
Have you played black myth wukong yet? I honestly wasn't going to get it but my buddy told me he was enjoying it alot and it have a pretty good story and overall a really fun gameplay style i would definitely recommend it. I also have hundreds of hours into elden ring and have all the trophies done every ending ect. And in my honest opinion i enjoy Black myth wukong more. I have also beaten every other souls from software game as well and this is still better in my opinion. All the boss variety and secrets in one game is insane i played it all weekend while i was off work and was still going back to early part of the game unlocking hidden special bosses. It's honestly a nice refresher i only hope more games come out like this @ronaldseeder2078
The most hilarious example is Stardew valley imo. A game made by 1 guy, regular updates, zero microtransactions. Its in the top 20 of most sold games the last decades. A lot of the other top sellers have similarities with this, either being made by 1 guy or very small teams (Valheim, Minecraft, Terraria). Imagine being a triple-A studio with hundreads of people working on a game and getting outcompeted by a 1-man studio creating a 2D game.

I played Black Myth Wukong for 12 hours this weekend. It is an easy 9 out of 10 combat RPG. Packed with exciting boss fights, superb combat, and fun builds.

I have a powerful $3K PC built last year, but the game has crashed twice, frozen a few times, stuttered, and has this shadow glitch where building shadows become so black, you can't see anything. Resets have fixed the issues, but they crop back up. That's why I can't give it 10/10.

Chinese here, on the last opinion Asmongold had I will respectfully disagree. With few following reasons: 1.The social recognition of 'video gaming' is still at least a controversial topic here, so I would not assume any goverment funding going in the gaming industry diectly. 2.Even in the gaming industry, before the Black Myth it is very very obvious that investors prefer moblie games way better than any PC/console only game, let alone an 3A title. 3.The leader of Game Science released a social post on the day the game released saying that 'the main topic we had in the studio this year was on how to reduce the difficulty and lower the entry bar', so my biggest guess on those air walls would be caused by this aspect. Nonetheless, thanks for the subjective attitude as always Mr.Asmon. Hope everyone have a nice time playing this game.
I think the air wall should be the product of a compromise between artistic expression and objective technology. It's a problem, but it's not a big one.
A lot folks like to emphasize majority sales are from China which is totally true, but that doesn't mean Wukong sells bad in the west, actually Wukong's global sales performance is impressive. According to Gamalytics and VG insights (this is the source of player population used by these folks), 20% copies sold are from the west, they estimate the total copies sold is between 12 to 14 million, means 2.4 million to 2.8 million in west within 5 days. This is the best global sales performance for AAA single player games in 2024 so far. FF7RE Rebirth sold for months and the total sales globally is over 2 million copies. People should recognize it sells well in both China and the West because it's a good game, instead of trying create a false narrative that this game sells bad in the west.

That's one of the things I find funny, they try to tout this as if it's some sort of "gotcha" Of course the majority of players are Chinese, this is Chinese folklore and a lot of people's childhood. It's made by a Chinese company and the main language is in Chinese. I've been playing with Chinese dub and English subtitles, and it sounds great. I especially like the headless singer.

I just finished the game at 41 hours, the amount of variety I experienced is insane, I've missed some secrets I think. But man, I just love that the game is not bloated, like so many games these days. This game has more variety than most 100 hour games and thus did not overstay its welcome.

Why TF would I ever read the book or hear that's story? Not like TH-cam existed when DBZ came out. Nor did I care about theory or orgins. I was playing goldeneye 007 and watching cartoons, or riding my bike cuz my parents kicked me out of the house and locked the door.
One thing the game doesn't get enough credit for is the smaller stories within. Its basically the first game where I've actually found myself reading the enemy descriptions, as they all have interesting poems and little stories attached that are genuinely thought provoking, you can really feel a sense of Chinese history in the game, and they actually refer to things in the game, so after you have read some of them you will recognise pieces from the story in the scenery and the characters you meet, giving you a way to piece the story together as it happens and getting more context. You can really tell that the developers put a lot of work into the games narrative and having it truly feel like a Chinese thing.
I love the interactable illustrations at the end of each chapter. I’m not sure if all the interaction points are always revealed or if you have to actually find the characters to unlock them, but man it’s such a fantastic way to close off each chapter’s story. It’s hard to really say which is better the animations or that interactable illustration, but combined with the enemy scrolls, illustrations, poems, and stories the artistry behind this game is just next level stunning.
@@footthumb You have to find the characters to unlock them. Some are naturally reveal through the main story, others depend on if you have fought them through a hidden quest or not.

A lot of Asians love Baldur's gate, Metro Exodus, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and many western games. Sales and money get reinvested, mostly. Just another win win

I didn’t like it. It just felt like a PS5 platformer with really bad, stereotypical “shitty 1960s kung fu” acting. I understand that people want to love it because it’s a no bullshit game, however, a no bullshit game isn’t inherently great. If you enjoy it, great! I just didn’t think it was worth $60.
@@thisguy2973 Not liking is fine, I can see how the theatrical "kung fu style" and exagerated combat movement can irc some people (I don't get the platform part). But I don't think it's fair to say it's not worth the price tag. The amount of detailed models (very few reskins) and game content is a lot. It's the same reason why Real Time Strategy games and traditional Fighting Games are pretty expensive on launch. One has to make a lot of unique models to be interesting, the other has to hand animate a lot of stuff. This will jack up the production costs and of course the game price, unless they have other monetization schemes. An analogy would be: I won't ever use a space rocket, riding them seems like a major pain in the ass, but calling them overpriced without a good reason wouldn't sit well. They just fill a certain niche that I have no interest. Side note, I don't play Black Myth these type of cameras tend to give me motion sickness.

It won't win because the cards are stacked against it. The same journalists hating on it are the same ones who decide which game wins. Even Japanese games have a hard time winning unless they are old and established IPs. Frankly for a game like BMW, these types of awards don't matter.
“It feels like an anime” well Wu Kong was the inspiration for Akira Toriyama for Dragonball, Sun WuKong in Japanese is translated in Son Goku, and the monkey transformation, staff and flying cloud is directly ripped off WuKong, so yeah, WuKong is a tale from the 16th century, without Akira Toriyama most fighting anime/games wouldn’t exist

As an international student from China studying in US, I feel we know much more about west than ppl here know about us. No like if China has mandates on what games and how many hours a person / minor can play, the numbers are not giving you the same information and you cant look at them the same. Lazy as it is, it is easier and more concise to discount these numbers altogether instead of trying to correct for any and all externalities. @@MrEvans1 because of supply and demand, there are so many players in the eastern market and it's cheaper to maintain and run a bot farm in places like Russia and China, both have easy access for computer parts, hardware and even technicians that can be sourced locally in most towns and cities. Their gold can be sold cheaper than their western counterparts, the work force would be more streamlined as the results, people love to use it to mix in some of their racist remarks and try to send some kind of message, but if the situation is reversed, the west would be doing bot farms too, maybe even bigger than the Russian/Chinese ones, that's also why the biggest crypto farms are also in these countries, the reasons are the same.

(unless its on sale) now I'm watching the price of unfinished bug filled "AAA" games go up with chunks of the game taken out to sell to you later . . . sorry i went on a bit of a rant there
So gamespot gave this game an 8 out of 10. In the review they said, that the game is a boss rush game, that there is nothing to explore and enemies in between bosses are „cannon fodder“. I was a little worried hearing all of this just to find out, that this is not true. This whole debate and journalists trying to crush this game is insane.

I just found the scales to fight hidden bosses, there’s a wall where you defeated the rat princes first son, it’s on the right in his fight area, you can break this wall with a spirit that has a heavy hard attack, rock spirit, once broken you can go through the crack and claim the scale this unlocks bosses in each chapter. First boss in chapter two is behind a sand waterfall in area before the boar boss. From the shrine head up the stairs to the right and dispel the sand and then proceed to fight, chapter 1 has a dragon that you fight behind a waterfall similar to chapter 2 it’s in the area you fought the big head spirit. Left of the bridge, opposite side to where big head is.
You can really tell - Ubisoft, EA, etc and the shill journalists who get paid off hate the success of this game- it seems other than elden ring and a few other projects to include Baldurs gate, the gaming industry has cared more about bottom lines than truly making art. You can tell the difference. Look at the early 2000s and early 2010s-to now. I’m glad gamers are waking up and fighting back with their wallet… favoring studios that care more about the ART than the dollar.

I am not the biggest fan of open world and yet I always thought it would be tough for a game to be as fun as Elden Ring but Wukong has been amazing to play through. Now, granted I played ER base game for 400 hours and now after DLC has pushed that beyond 500+. I am not assuming I will play this game for as long but objectively speaking, Wukong seems like a masterclass. I can't wait for whatever this studio does next.

will happen 100% though I will agree if someone says its overhyped to heaven. it's good but not the best. if u deep dive u gonna find the issues (u don't have to even search for them). God of war was a way better polished game for example. though I love spawning an army of 50 monkeys and made my PC almost crash. or 1 shotting bosses with 1 single attack

The reason why fighting the Boss is quite easy is because you just played the cycle of reincarnation (New Game)for the first time, you need to play more cycles(New Cycles) of reincarnation, then the Bosses and monsters will become harder and harder.
We don't get a whole lot of games that release these days that don't feel like beta's, or early access, or a buggy mess, or monetized like shit. It's nice to see one proper full stable game doing well.
It’s crazy how much secrets people are missing. It’s not really that linear if you explore. The amount of people who missed the Red Dragon boss behind the waterfalls in chapter 1 is staggering. That and the Mad Tiger in the well in chapter 2. Where the ghost child leads you. These bosses help you defeat the main storyline bosses too.
@@bananaana1860 yes, it’s pretty tricky to find because you need the instrument you get from the tiger acolyte you fight on the bridge. I don’t wanna spoil to much, but once you have that make sure you explore all of chapter 2. You will need to come across 3 areas where you will hear a child asking you to play the instrument. Once you find the last spot a child leads you to a well to ask you to play. In the well is the Mad Tiger though and it’s a pretty tough boss, but definitely far from the most difficult.
It shows that "we need 10 billion microtransactions to make the game profitable" is a myth, because if you make a good enough game with none if that the audience will come.
It back up the examples set by Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur's Gate 3 in the last year or so. It's really encouraging to see big games with just a box price smashing records recently.
Game Science kinda went for a lower amount of profits with this game, bcos the studio consists of devs that had gotten fed up with gacha games, which is their background.
Actually the amount of people can afford PC or PS5 in China might surprise you 😅 especially with good enough GPU to play AAA games. that’s why mobile games are such big thing in China (most of them are shit of course). This game took me back almost 30 years when I played the 1st Devil May Cry or OG God of War way back when. It plays like an old school hack and slash but with modern things thrown to make it feel like a modern day game. This game is easily my game of the year pick (I have finished it btw with over 50 hours in my 1st playthrough). I have just hit the 2nd chapter in my 2nd playthrough. I wont spoil any thing but man, this game hits hard. Yes it has its flaws as do all games even feature complete games. Elden Ring has flaws too as does BG3 but they are still amazing games. Black Myth Wukong is on that level. It knows what it wants to do and it does it very well. Its not a souls like game, though it does have a couple of aspects inspired by souls games. Its not just a havk and slash game or just an RPG yet it has elements from those types of games. Its a fantastic mash up of different genres and I cant get enough.
One thing I don’t like about souls games is the dark, gritty atmosphere and nightmarish theme. BMW is such a breath of fresh air with its beautiful environment more normal looking design.

I will never believe any modern game journalist again, before playing it i remember reading about the review that said there is no female characters at all in the game. But it turns out there is a female characters in the game.
Let Black Myth and Concord be reminders that there are a lot more of us "old fashioned" gamers than there are "modern audience" gamers, and if the games industry wants to survive, it better choose a side now.

it's like they are expecting people to watch a blockbuster movie over and over again after a successful week. it's a story driven single player game. ypu play the game, finish the story, and maybe comeback later when you wanna enjoy it again, just like a movie. and besides that the devs already took the banks, it's not like a free to play MMO games which the devs will only makes money when people keeps playing it. nowadays journalism is a joke.
This is the most fun Combat I have experienced since DMC5. The Bosses are unbelievably Unique, and Very Fun to right. Almost every single Boss, is Amazing. The Boss Design is peak. Turning into Previous Bosses and enemies is Peak. Graphics are 11/10. Story is Peak, character is Peak. The Soundtrack goes Crazy. The Design of all the characters, is Amazing. This is in my top 3 favorite games👌💯🔥🔥

It would be great if a careful studio could take note of this. In fact, China, as a potential and vast consumer market, has players who truly embody the spirit of gamers when it comes to a good game. Sadly, most Western players are burdened by the shackles of political correctness.
I haven't had a chance to dive into the game too deeply, only a couple hours in, same with Stellar Blade. I love both games so far, but I work 7 days a week and every time I try to play my kids bug the crap out of me, LoL. So far, both this and Stellar Blade have been fantastic games, even with my limited time with them. Fortunately, I have a nice 3 day weekend, so I'll be playing both as much as possible, but probably more so with Black Myth Wukong as I love the original story.
The respec system in this game is absolute genius and more games need to adopt it. This game is very reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden. This game is nothing like God of War.
its not a scam at least. since Tom Clancy’s The Division to The day Before, there are so many games out there that have trailer scams, I still remember in 2020, when the wukong trailer was released, everyone was attracted by the graphics quality, but I still didn't have any expectations for it, and at this point I'm satisfied .

It does for statistics and popularity. The market for such a chinese nationalistic game is huge, compared to other games. So the huge number doesn't mean as much as if this would have been a game from another continent and for another target group. Doesn't mean it's a great game.

to answer your question at the 2:00 minute mark: it's because the asian market has different expectations for video games than the western market does. remember how eastern videogames were artificially simplified for western markets, reducing their difficulty levels to appease western markets? but also, in asia, any game that features prestige items that can be acquired via microtransactions have a much higher social value than they do in western markets. gatcha games for example, or even games like csgo due to their skins, are valued and appreciated on a different level. for the most part, as owning prestige or expensive things in certain circles are considered status symbols. so there are ultimate different metrics going into the evaluation of a games success. there is a considerable overlap, but also those vastly different aspects.

About the Chinese players situation, one thing I might add is that they are way more into multiplayer competitive games, like League or PUBG. So a single player game blowing up there is a much bigger deal than journalists would like you to think.
You guys are missing the point that this game has nothing to do with the western culture wars of woke vs anti woke. These issues are not relevant in China and most of Asia and we want to keep it that way. Westerners can fight amongst themselves over these issues all that they want. Amazing game.. The boss fights are really really good.. but like you said, I need a break from the stress of the boss fight sometimes just to explore and solve secret missions and whatnot. But everything else about this game is amazing.

It's been long overdue, a breakthrough adaptation of Monkey: Journey To The West for a worldwide, predominantly English-speaking audience. Glad it was a video game.
Sure some game journalists are trash, but somehow naively I think we are only focusing on the small batch of bad apples too much. The game is doing a great job looking like it’s a mega hit when in reality according to Simon Carless, 88.1% of the user base have been confirmed to be Chinese users with the US being 2nd with 3%. It’s manipulation of good press press at its best if you think about how we all go wooow at user numbers or revenue.
I find it funny how people are acting like those talking about how so much of the sales from this game are china are being racist. But they are also the ones calling everything woke so I don't think they are ok in the head.
Game is really good, action is fluid, you can counter not just dodge just like in DMC5, bosses are unique and have lots of attack moves which make them hard to predict and takes time to remember all their moves

That frog spirit is actually busted, though you have to upgrade it. Once it's leveled up a couple times the frog does elemental damage which hits like a truck.

The devs shared yesterday that the game was supposed to have upto 13 chapters. However, due to their lack of self experiences and resources (nums of devs and money...), they had to cut it off, maybe they'd submit them through future DLCs. They also noted that they will try to fix certain major bugs (invisible walls,...) soon
I just heard this morning that they’re already planning DLC, probably will release soon.
Yeah I was kind of bummed it was only 6 chapters. But considering they spend 7 years and 400 millons RMB, I guess investors need to see some results.

This. I think the move to another game might not be as good as trying to complete this Wukong franchise in about 2 installations. Now they have learned so much and have also made so much money to either fuel a groundbreaking DLC or a sequel that is fully realized in potential.

As a Chinese player, I can say that Journey to the West is a household name in China, known by everyone from 80-year-old elders to 5-year-old children. BMW (Black Myth: Wukong) is so popular not only because it is China's first AAA game, but also because it incorporates a lot of cultural elements, regional music, and more. Many structures in the game, such as statues and temples, are faithfully recreated on a 1:1 scale based on real-life counterparts. It is this high quality and rich cultural content that has attracted many Chinese people, including those who have never played games before, to take an interest in this one.
However, as the first AAA game from Game Science, I admit there are still some shortcomings, such as invisible walls, optimization issues, and so on. Therefore, I don't want it to be overly hyped in China or other countries. Sharing a game and its cultural elements with other countries is a joyful thing, but I hope everyone can approach it with a rational perspective.

well depends honestly, games like witcher 3 / skyrim / cyberpunk still have thousands of players YEARS after release, they are best example of games that can defend themselves with being good and thriving playerbase, so good singleplayer games like wukong, even if not as replayable as these games, and hardly comparable to rpg should still hold decent player base, of course not as big as cyberpunk, but a portion of that for sure.
EDIT: milions of comments about how I can't compare rpg to wukong, apparently people read cyberpunk and end reading the fucking comment - i even wrote it myself that it's hardly comparable.. just gave top examples of games that are alive after years, and noticed that wukong will be lower due to not being rpg too.

Technically, it's not really about Journey to the West. It's what the developers think would happen after Journey to the West, hence the opening line "my master, safe; the scriptures, sound." All the original developers are Journey to the West enthusiasts, so enthusiastic to the point that they'd have hundreds of hours of arguments over what they envision would happen after the journey even off-work even just as friends instead of colleagues, given how their own understanding of Sun Wukong as a character differ. Also technically, it's not their first game as they made their first game Asura (The Victorious Fighting Budda/God), which is an MMORPG also under the setting of Journey to the West, at Tencent before they quit the company when they realized they'd never creat the game they really wanted at Tencent. From Black Myth, you can tell how much they love the story and the characters and how much love and care they've poured into this. Ironically, the Tencent game Asura, which used to have a lot of potential when it was first released more than 10 years ago, is completely in the dust now despite still running at the moment.

A small fun fact: Tencent is actually a shareholder of Game Science, but only 5% under the specific clause of 3 NOs, aka "not interfering with decision-making on how the studio is run (不干预运营决策), not trying to be the dominating force/voice throughout the entire the project（不抢占项目主导), and not pursuing the marketing/monetization right of the game (不寻求发行运营). Guess as former employees, the developers know too damn well what Tencent would do to their beloved game if it's a majority holder.

I think one big reason this game is received so well, at least in China (you gotta understand Chinese gamers are super duper critical of their own Chinese games too, just look at some of the most poorly rated games on Steam), on top of the fact that it's a good game and also arguably the first China's original AAA game, is the rebelliousness and free spirit embedded in Sun Wukong and some other characters (Red boy, for example) throughout the game, unlike the original Journey to the West where it's more about how they are being tamed and disciplined. Chinese young adults need to feel that sometimes somewhere even if it's just in a video game and even if they still need to drag themselves to a 30-floor office building at 8 a.m. the next day. And don't ask me why I know it because I'm one of them.

Have you played black myth wukong yet? I honestly wasn't going to get it but my buddy told me he was enjoying it alot and it have a pretty good story and overall a really fun gameplay style i would definitely recommend it. I also have hundreds of hours into elden ring and have all the trophies done every ending ect. And in my honest opinion i enjoy Black myth wukong more. I have also beaten every other souls from software game as well and this is still better in my opinion. All the boss variety and secrets in one game is insane i played it all weekend while i was off work and was still going back to early part of the game unlocking hidden special bosses. It's honestly a nice refresher i only hope more games come out like this @ronaldseeder2078

The most hilarious example is Stardew valley imo. A game made by 1 guy, regular updates, zero microtransactions. Its in the top 20 of most sold games the last decades. A lot of the other top sellers have similarities with this, either being made by 1 guy or very small teams (Valheim, Minecraft, Terraria).
Imagine being a triple-A studio with hundreads of people working on a game and getting outcompeted by a 1-man studio creating a 2D game.

I played Black Myth Wukong for 12 hours this weekend. It is an easy 9 out of 10 combat RPG. Packed with exciting boss fights, superb combat, and fun builds.
I can't wait to play it.

I have a powerful $3K PC built last year, but the game has crashed twice, frozen a few times, stuttered, and has this shadow glitch where building shadows become so black, you can't see anything. Resets have fixed the issues, but they crop back up. That's why I can't give it 10/10.

Chinese here, on the last opinion Asmongold had I will respectfully disagree. With few following reasons:
1.The social recognition of 'video gaming' is still at least a controversial topic here, so I would not assume any goverment funding going in the gaming industry diectly.
2.Even in the gaming industry, before the Black Myth it is very very obvious that investors prefer moblie games way better than any PC/console only game, let alone an 3A title.
3.The leader of Game Science released a social post on the day the game released saying that 'the main topic we had in the studio this year was on how to reduce the difficulty and lower the entry bar', so my biggest guess on those air walls would be caused by this aspect.

I think the air wall should be the product of a compromise between artistic expression and objective technology. It's a problem, but it's not a big one.
A lot folks like to emphasize majority sales are from China which is totally true, but that doesn't mean Wukong sells bad in the west, actually Wukong's global sales performance is impressive. According to Gamalytics and VG insights (this is the source of player population used by these folks), 20% copies sold are from the west, they estimate the total copies sold is between 12 to 14 million, means 2.4 million to 2.8 million in west within 5 days. This is the best global sales performance for AAA single player games in 2024 so far. FF7RE Rebirth sold for months and the total sales globally is over 2 million copies. People should recognize it sells well in both China and the West because it's a good game, instead of trying create a false narrative that this game sells bad in the west.

I just finished the game at 41 hours, the amount of variety I experienced is insane, I've missed some secrets I think. But man, I just love that the game is not bloated, like so many games these days. This game has more variety than most 100 hour games and thus did not overstay its welcome.

One thing the game doesn't get enough credit for is the smaller stories within. Its basically the first game where I've actually found myself reading the enemy descriptions, as they all have interesting poems and little stories attached that are genuinely thought provoking, you can really feel a sense of Chinese history in the game, and they actually refer to things in the game, so after you have read some of them you will recognise pieces from the story in the scenery and the characters you meet, giving you a way to piece the story together as it happens and getting more context. You can really tell that the developers put a lot of work into the games narrative and having it truly feel like a Chinese thing.
I love the interactable illustrations at the end of each chapter. I’m not sure if all the interaction points are always revealed or if you have to actually find the characters to unlock them, but man it’s such a fantastic way to close off each chapter’s story. It’s hard to really say which is better the animations or that interactable illustration, but combined with the enemy scrolls, illustrations, poems, and stories the artistry behind this game is just next level stunning.
@@footthumb You have to find the characters to unlock them. Some are naturally reveal through the main story, others depend on if you have fought them through a hidden quest or not.
This is such a satisfying middlefinger to those activists. For us gamers this is a massive victory.

I understand that people want to love it because it’s a no bullshit game, however, a no bullshit game isn’t inherently great. If you enjoy it, great! I just didn’t think it was worth $60.

But I don't think it's fair to say it's not worth the price tag. The amount of detailed models (very few reskins) and game content is a lot.
It's the same reason why Real Time Strategy games and traditional Fighting Games are pretty expensive on launch. One has to make a lot of unique models to be interesting, the other has to hand animate a lot of stuff. This will jack up the production costs and of course the game price, unless they have other monetization schemes.
An analogy would be: I won't ever use a space rocket, riding them seems like a major pain in the ass, but calling them overpriced without a good reason wouldn't sit well. They just fill a certain niche that I have no interest.
Side note, I don't play Black Myth these type of cameras tend to give me motion sickness.

@@MrEvans1 because of supply and demand, there are so many players in the eastern market and it's cheaper to maintain and run a bot farm in places like Russia and China, both have easy access for computer parts, hardware and even technicians that can be sourced locally in most towns and cities. Their gold can be sold cheaper than their western counterparts, the work force would be more streamlined as the results, people love to use it to mix in some of their racist remarks and try to send some kind of message, but if the situation is reversed, the west would be doing bot farms too, maybe even bigger than the Russian/Chinese ones, that's also why the biggest crypto farms are also in these countries, the reasons are the same.

So gamespot gave this game an 8 out of 10. In the review they said, that the game is a boss rush game, that there is nothing to explore and enemies in between bosses are „cannon fodder“. I was a little worried hearing all of this just to find out, that this is not true. This whole debate and journalists trying to crush this game is insane.

I just found the scales to fight hidden bosses, there’s a wall where you defeated the rat princes first son, it’s on the right in his fight area, you can break this wall with a spirit that has a heavy hard attack, rock spirit, once broken you can go through the crack and claim the scale this unlocks bosses in each chapter. First boss in chapter two is behind a sand waterfall in area before the boar boss. From the shrine head up the stairs to the right and dispel the sand and then proceed to fight, chapter 1 has a dragon that you fight behind a waterfall similar to chapter 2 it’s in the area you fought the big head spirit. Left of the bridge, opposite side to where big head is.
You can really tell - Ubisoft, EA, etc and the shill journalists who get paid off hate the success of this game- it seems other than elden ring and a few other projects to include Baldurs gate, the gaming industry has cared more about bottom lines than truly making art. You can tell the difference. Look at the early 2000s and early 2010s-to now.

I am not the biggest fan of open world and yet I always thought it would be tough for a game to be as fun as Elden Ring but Wukong has been amazing to play through. Now, granted I played ER base game for 400 hours and now after DLC has pushed that beyond 500+. I am not assuming I will play this game for as long but objectively speaking, Wukong seems like a masterclass. I can't wait for whatever this studio does next.

The thing about yellow wind sage is that, you can remove the sandstorm blocking your vision complete by getting an artifact from a hidden quest line.
The reason why fighting the Boss is quite easy is because you just played the cycle of reincarnation (New Game)for the first time, you need to play more cycles(New Cycles) of reincarnation, then the Bosses and monsters will become harder and harder.
We don't get a whole lot of games that release these days that don't feel like beta's, or early access, or a buggy mess, or monetized like shit. It's nice to see one proper full stable game doing well.
If Black Myth wukong is released like 2077, it will be a disaster for the Chinese gaming industry.People will not believe chinese AAA game anymore.

It’s crazy how much secrets people are missing. It’s not really that linear if you explore. The amount of people who missed the Red Dragon boss behind the waterfalls in chapter 1 is staggering. That and the Mad Tiger in the well in chapter 2. Where the ghost child leads you. These bosses help you defeat the main storyline bosses too.

@@bananaana1860 yes, it’s pretty tricky to find because you need the instrument you get from the tiger acolyte you fight on the bridge. I don’t wanna spoil to much, but once you have that make sure you explore all of chapter 2. You will need to come across 3 areas where you will hear a child asking you to play the instrument. Once you find the last spot a child leads you to a well to ask you to play. In the well is the Mad Tiger though and it’s a pretty tough boss, but definitely far from the most difficult.

This game took me back almost 30 years when I played the 1st Devil May Cry or OG God of War way back when. It plays like an old school hack and slash but with modern things thrown to make it feel like a modern day game. This game is easily my game of the year pick (I have finished it btw with over 50 hours in my 1st playthrough). I have just hit the 2nd chapter in my 2nd playthrough. I wont spoil any thing but man, this game hits hard. Yes it has its flaws as do all games even feature complete games. Elden Ring has flaws too as does BG3 but they are still amazing games. Black Myth Wukong is on that level. It knows what it wants to do and it does it very well. Its not a souls like game, though it does have a couple of aspects inspired by souls games. Its not just a havk and slash game or just an RPG yet it has elements from those types of games. Its a fantastic mash up of different genres and I cant get enough.
One thing I don’t like about souls games is the dark, gritty atmosphere and nightmarish theme. BMW is such a breath of fresh air with its beautiful environment more normal looking design.

it's like they are expecting people to watch a blockbuster movie over and over again after a successful week. it's a story driven single player game. ypu play the game, finish the story, and maybe comeback later when you wanna enjoy it again, just like a movie. and besides that the devs already took the banks, it's not like a free to play MMO games which the devs will only makes money when people keeps playing it. nowadays journalism is a joke.
This is the most fun Combat I have experienced since DMC5. The Bosses are unbelievably Unique, and Very Fun to right. Almost every single Boss, is Amazing. The Boss Design is peak. Turning into Previous Bosses and enemies is Peak. Graphics are 11/10. Story is Peak, character is Peak. The Soundtrack goes Crazy. The Design of all the characters, is Amazing. This is in my top 3 favorite games👌💯🔥🔥

Pretty much. Cyberpunk's also got a similar popularity in China. But somehow those awakesters failed to mention that.
It would be great if a careful studio could take note of this. In fact, China, as a potential and vast consumer market, has players who truly embody the spirit of gamers when it comes to a good game. Sadly, most Western players are burdened by the shackles of political correctness.
I haven't had a chance to dive into the game too deeply, only a couple hours in, same with Stellar Blade. I love both games so far, but I work 7 days a week and every time I try to play my kids bug the crap out of me, LoL. So far, both this and Stellar Blade have been fantastic games, even with my limited time with them. Fortunately, I have a nice 3 day weekend, so I'll be playing both as much as possible, but probably more so with Black Myth Wukong as I love the original story.
The respec system in this game is absolute genius and more games need to adopt it. This game is very reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden. This game is nothing like God of War.

its not a scam at least. since Tom Clancy’s The Division to The day Before, there are so many games out there that have trailer scams, I still remember in 2020, when the wukong trailer was released, everyone was attracted by the graphics quality, but I still didn't have any expectations for it, and at this point I'm satisfied .

remember how eastern videogames were artificially simplified for western markets, reducing their difficulty levels to appease western markets?
but also, in asia, any game that features prestige items that can be acquired via microtransactions have a much higher social value than they do in western markets. gatcha games for example, or even games like csgo due to their skins, are valued and appreciated on a different level. for the most part, as owning prestige or expensive things in certain circles are considered status symbols.
so there are ultimate different metrics going into the evaluation of a games success. there is a considerable overlap, but also those vastly different aspects.

Wukong may be China’s first AAA game, but it is NOT China’s first game. China has a huge gaming industry and the Chinese govt has better things to do than back any one game 😂
About the Chinese players situation, one thing I might add is that they are way more into multiplayer competitive games, like League or PUBG. So a single player game blowing up there is a much bigger deal than journalists would like you to think.

You guys are missing the point that this game has nothing to do with the western culture wars of woke vs anti woke. These issues are not relevant in China and most of Asia and we want to keep it that way. Westerners can fight amongst themselves over these issues all that they want. The more that you do the more you will leave Asia alone.
Where are you from? Surely not China, since 'feminism' of the 'garden variety' there is punching left and right now. In Korea it's a full blown war, and in Japan, the worst times are even past. Of course, it's more like normal men vs. woke feminists, but in these three nations which make up East Asia, woke vs. anti-woke is definitely relevant.
In China, those 'woke feminists' have been trying to sabotage this game since day 0, someone even sprayed death threats on the dev's office building. Of course you can close your eyes and turn your back, especially if you're not from China to begin with, but this shit is real, much more real than you think. I support your decision to play the game without all the politics, but saying that this game has nothing to do with woke vs. anti-woke is just plain wrong.

Amazing game.. The boss fights are really really good.. but like you said, I need a break from the stress of the boss fight sometimes just to explore and solve secret missions and whatnot. But everything else about this game is amazing.

I don't think that's fair. It should realistically be 60%, considering the highest demographic of gamers is Asians (I am not sure what the breakdown is of specifically China)
@@JPMonster13 The game is pretty popular in China, with a lot of basketball streamers playing it. I’m not too sure about its popularity in the West, but I’ve seen people say it’s only big in China. So, I made a relatively conservative estimate.

For the frog to start doing damage you have to find all the hidden frog bosses in each chapter then level it up. It will then do very good damage and status effects

It's been long overdue, a breakthrough adaptation of Monkey: Journey To The West for a worldwide, predominantly English-speaking audience. Glad it was a video game.
Sure some game journalists are trash, but somehow naively I think we are only focusing on the small batch of bad apples too much. The game is doing a great job looking like it’s a mega hit when in reality according to Simon Carless, 88.1% of the user base have been confirmed to be Chinese users with the US being 2nd with 3%. It’s manipulation of good press press at its best if you think about how we all go wooow at user numbers or revenue.
I find it funny how people are acting like those talking about how so much of the sales from this game are china are being racist. But they are also the ones calling everything woke so I don't think they are ok in the head.
Game is really good, action is fluid, you can counter not just dodge just like in DMC5, bosses are unique and have lots of attack moves which make them hard to predict and takes time to remember all their moves

That frog spirit is actually busted, though you have to upgrade it. Once it's leveled up a couple times the frog does elemental damage which hits like a truck.
