Tonight's game showed it really could go either way. Acuna, first player in history to hit 30 homers and have 60 stolen bases, and he did it before September for crying out loud.
Acuña is having a historic season on a better team, maybe next year for Mookie
Mookie Betts will have played 10 full seasons at the end of this year, and has already put together what I consider a solid HOF level career. If he keeps going at this rate, he'll walk into Cooperstown when he is ready to retire.

Don't be so sure. Both Acuna and Betts would be excellent choices this season.
I'll be straight up, if I could vote it WOULD be for Acuna. Because despite their WAR being equal on Baseball Reference, I think BR drastically undervalues stolen bases.
But if someone voted for Betts because of his pretty much equal value with the bat, and far better defense, I couldn't tell them that they were "wrong."
Acuña leads Betts in EVERY Statisical category except WAR which they are tied. Acuna has made some crazy plays in right. And we have no idea what he would look like in another position because we got ALL-Stars in every infield position. Also Acuña has been HIM since the first game of the year. He has been consistent all year long unlike Mookie who struggled early. Plus Head to Head Acuña outplayed Mookie. IMO. Acuna is hands down the MVP. Mookie is a beast....He just got out-beasted this year.

I think Acuna's value is higher than Baseball Reference is giving him credit for. Their formula for calculating the value from stolen bases undervalues them, IMO.
Mookie didn't even get hot until July. Mvp can't be a streaky player like that, they have to be consistent all year, like Freeman or Acuña.

Ronald Acuna Jr will be the 2023 NL MVP. Acuna went alot over the last two years. Acuna has been the spark plug for the Braves. Nothing against Betts. Acuna has been doing great.
This is for this season, not the last two years. Sounds like you want him to win comeback player of the year award

@@scottbardsley284Frank Robinson is the only player to win an MVP in both leagues. While he did win a championship and WS MVP with Baltimore in 66' and another WS in 70', the Reds weren't able to beat the Yankees in 61' while he was with them. So pretty damn close.
Look at the stats, mookie betts has better war in both categories, OPS, homers, RBI, fielding, and much other stats. Though Acuna has been very good mookie still has loads of rbi at the leadoff spot. Acuna has tons of steals but personally that isn’t enough for me. As stated in the video mookie plays 5 out of the 8 positions in the field where he can probably add on 3rd base to that resume. This is why mookie has been a better player and will win MVP, if the season ended now at least.

Acuña has 120 runs scored this season 60 stolen bases in 133 games 616 plate appearances. Mookie has 116 runs scored this season 10 stolen bases in 127 games 586 plate appearances. The main reason Acuña may win MVP is because of the stolen bases and 30-60 season. Why do the stolen bases matter if he’s barely scoring more than mookie? Yeah Acuña has a .340 mookie has a .320 but still? Mookie leads the NL in OPS, Slugging, OPS+, and total bases. Acuña leads in Plate Appearances, hits, runs, SB, has the most caught stealings given he has tried to steal the most, and on base percentage. I really don’t see what Acuña has mookie doesn’t the stolen bases don’t matter if your not scoring.

This video said mookie was the best leadoff hitter by far and that he had a chance to break the homerun record for a leadoff hitter. I guess he had a chance, but Acuna was the one who broke the record. He has a higher BA, OBP, SLG, and has scored 16 more runs than mookie. I would say that the stats show that acuna has clearly been the best leadoff hitter. oWAR of 8.1 to mookies 7.5

Saying Betts is the best leadoff hitter “by far” might be a bit of a stretch…..just saying he’s the best leadoff hitter is worth a solid discussion. No matter how you look at it though we are definitely talking about the two premier players in the national league, let alone baseball. In the end I do believe Acuna will win MVP. It’s very likely he going to end the year with the stats .300ba/30hr/60sb/100runs/100rbi, which will make him the only player in MLB history with those numbers. Where Betts, deserving as he is, will have votes split from him by Freddie….who will end up with a batting title as well as 60 doubles.

You can’t be serious. The season ends tomorrow Acuña leads the league with the most hits, the most runs scored, the most stolen bases, the best WAR, the most plate appearances, played every game, second in the league in batting, hit 42 home runs more than Betts (39). Acuna had one of the best seasons in history of baseball. It’s not even close!
The MVP is for the whole season not for the month of August! Betts hit 282 in May!

Apparently you haven’t seen Mookie. Dodgers are my least favorite team, yet even I can see how dominant he is and why he’s the mvp. The dodgers only lost 4 games in august and he had a war of nearly 3 in just that months alone! Sure Acuna has the steals but mookie has the best war, ops, ops+, can play stellar defense at multiple positions and overall a more complete player
So what? Acuna stands around in right field for half the game. Mookie is gold glove at multiple positions. There's still a lot of season to go, but I think Mookie's got this.

The Braves leadoff man is -150 to win the award for the first time in his career. He has six hits across his last two games and is a home run shy of becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 30 home runs and steal 60 bases in the same season.

Mookie has 38 homers I think 98 RBIs and acuna got 30/60 I did say hands down acuna will win but now I'm looking at his second half stats it's gonna be close but I think acunas got it mookie close 2nd but you never know with these bbwA that vote ??? Acuna now has 41 hr 104 rbi and 70 SB first in history 40/70 so I still say hands down and he's hitting 336. Another player who is just a great hitter is Freddie freeman
