      but the bases are only 99.95% of what they were last year, so really you can cut those stolen bases in half….. and Acuña Jr. is the only one playing on a diamond with bigger bases….. wait…. what if every park moved their plate one foot forward, it wouldn’t matter because Acuña Jr. averages 425 ft per homer (number 1 in length, and exit velo”) Acuña Jr. is simply on another level…. no gaps, no slumps, no excuses

    Mookie is definitely one of the best to play this game. However, Mookie's MVP MONTH does not supercede Ronald Acuna's MVP YEAR!!
    Mookie is exactly what he's supposed to be right now.... a runner up!
    That's exactly
    If the Braves and Dodgers meet up in the Championship series again this year. The performances between the two will most definitely seal the deal. No matter what was accomplished during the season. MVP's lead their team to a world series championship. We'll see what happens soon enough

    • @ifithrewmyguitaroutt
      @ifithrewmyguitaroutt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@panner11 I don't think the defensive metrics are that reliable. I agree he doesn't read the ball well off that bat, but as someone who watches him play every day, he very rarely costs us runs out there. He makes up for terrible reads and routes with speed and sheer athleticism. I just don't buy the notion that he is below average. Moreover, his arm is such a powerful deterrent when it comes to the opposing team going first to third or a runner at third going for home. I don't know if or how that's calculated in OAA, but they're almost certainly under-counting the benefits of his arm. I remember in 2021 when we had basically a AAA outfield for a couple of months, and teams ran on us all the time. The difference is very noticeable. His arm has saved us many, many bases.

    • @kennethkubo8358
      @kennethkubo8358 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ifithrewmyguitaroutt However, Mookie's arm in right has saved the Dodgers on multiple occasions, just ask Trent Grisham. Plus how many Gold Gloves does he have in right. The fact that Mookie can play the middle infield gives the Dodgers better match up flexibility. That alone makes him more valuable to his team.

  • @Wase616
    @Wase616 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One of the reasons mookies war is higher is because he plays a lot of shortstop and that’s a very valuable position and his defense is good there so it adds more war to him

  • @mjt07f
    @mjt07f ปีที่แล้ว +36

    Acuna is having a historic year and may go 40/40, there's no arguement, he's the MVP. WAR takes into consideration that Mookie is a 2B for parts of the season, which is nonsense.

    • @AG-fv4yb
      @AG-fv4yb ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How is that nonsense? Also if you compare RF to RF, Mookie is way better and is not even close defensively

    • @mjt07f
      @mjt07f ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @AG-fv4yb it's nonsense to compare WAR in this instance, because it artificially increases Mookie's WAR as well as his OPS+. Second basemen don't hit 40 HRs often, so that's spiked that number for him. Fielding wise, he's a better fielder, who's committed one less error, cause he's played 3 positions this year. The only category he's leading Acuna in is homeruns and Acuna would likely have more if he weren't hitting over .330.

    • @AG-fv4yb
      @AG-fv4yb ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mjt07f bro, how does a position dictate your offensive performance? It is so annoying to hear stuff like this because i guarantee you can find a superstar for each position. How many people hit 40hrs a year? Less than 10, around there. It doesn't matter if second baseman don't hit 40 hrs because they play second base. You have a guy that can play elite defense at 2nd and Short, in what way is that "artificial"? If he's gifted enough to do that, it adds to his value because he can play multiple positions and not worry about that position lacking defensively. It opens up options for the team by adding a lefty OF if they want to

    At the end of the day this race has been narrative versus value. All the advanced stats point to Mookie being more deserving, as his edge in weighted created more than outweighs Acuña’s edge in baserunning runs created while being the better and more versatile defender, meanwhile Acuña’s big argument is that he’s put two numbers together we’ve never seen next to each other before, had a stronger start, and a better team around him. That being said, it really seems like people are unmoved by the fact that Betts has been the league’s most valuable player, as at this point it seems like a lock to go to Acuña.

    • @whitedeion598
      @whitedeion598 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Acunas main argument isn't the "two numbers". It's having an OPS of .918 every month of the season. He may score 150 runs and get 220 hits. Those are very rare stats, and then there is likely 40 homers and 70 steals. He leads the league in runs, hits, total bases, OBP, OPS, and wOBA

    MVP means Most Valuable Player. Acuña does lead in many offensive stats but Mookie’s value is higher in his defensive versatility to go along with his also insane offense. Mookie’s ability to play 2nd base & SS is a value that Acuña doesn’t provide. You can’t even compare Acuña’s defense to Mookie’s at any time. This allows the Dodgers to play other players at right field and use Mookie at other positions and still be elite. Put Acuña at any other position and his offense might suffer.

    Mookie can play 2B and SS, and well too. Not saying that should give him MVP but you don’t mention it. It has been used a lot and he has changed positions in game a ton bc it allowed them to put pitch hitters in. His stats right now are about 100 in OF, 55 at 2B, and 15 at SS. That number is well over amount of games played bc they changed him in game over 35 times. Teams normally don’t usually have luxury of putting in pitch hitters like that but Mookie allows them too.

      That's the only thing people mention, cause Acuna is better at everything else other than the defense you talk about.
      And if you're going to talk about inside things like that, you have to realize that when Acuna gets on 1B, pitchers throw more fastballs to prevent the steal...more fastballs to the best fastball hitting team in MLB. There's a good reason why Ozzie, Olson, and Riley are having career best HR seasons.

    We should not be so quick to give acuna the MVP. he will win it, but we should give the award to the statistically more productive player. Right now, that’s mookie by a narrow margin. His wOBA is better, as well as OPS+ and WRC+ which takes into account stolen bases (which are of course much more common after the rule change). acuna’s xwOBA is better, but all that says is were it not for uncontrollables like fielding and ballpark environment, he WOULD HAVE had the better season. Mookie Betts has had OBJECTIVELY better offensive contributions per plate appearance, not to mention his fielding prowess.

    I have always been a bit unimpressed by the MVP Award. Most of the time, it is the best offensive player that gets this award rather than the actual player that did the most for his team. My guess is that Acuna will win but, IMO, it should be Betts. Betts has played Gold Glove baseball at 3 positions and has carried the Dodgers (along with Freeman) for most of the season whereas the Braves are just stacked. Acuna is a badass but is a badass within a team of badasses. Is he the MVP of baseball and the Braves or is he the Player of the Year? I really wish there was major significance given to both (rather than just the MVP) and that the MVP was the true most valuable player on the team and in baseball... in every facet.☺

    Oh mookie you lead in 2 categories? Acuna leads in damn near all the rest!. Oh bad news now acunas taken those stats too now. lol. Acuna not being voted MVP would be a travesty.
    Oh yeah, one more thing. Believe it or not they have an honor for a player that plays out of their mind for a month. It's called Player of the Month! MVP is the Most Valuable Player of the year. Acuna is clearly that player this year. Even before he went off in September hitting homer after homer to become only baseballs 5th player ever to go 40/40 but now any argument against him is ridiculous. 40/70! That's crazy and used to be thought a 40/50 season was impossible let alone a 40/60 and 40/70 is just ridiculous. Some haters want to talk the rule changes as an excuse for his SB totals but that's stupid. Even if the bigger bags halp a little look back at every Acuna steal and tell me how many were even close enough for that to affect it.
    It's not just Acuna either. This Braves team gets talked about a lot for how insanely good it is but even that doesnt do them justice. He is the spark plug for likely the greatest offense ever. Don't take my word check out the stats and you will see how special this line up is. Go ahead and think in your head of which teams you think were the best ever and compare them to this Braves offense. Just last night they moved ahead of the historic 1927 Yankees team in HR differential. Up to +117. They are on pace to become the first team ever to end a season with overall team slugging over .500. They have a record tying 5 players with 30 or more HR's The first team to ever have 3 guys over 35 HR.
    We can only imagine what their record would be had they had their Ace and #3 pitcher nearly all year. They had more starting pitchers used this year than anyone yet here they stand.They are 4 Austin Riley RBI's away from having their top 4 in the lineup all over 100 RBIS and the 5th with 90
    how historically powerful is this team? only team in top 5 that didnt happen in 2019 when something was up with the balls. It their pitchers can stay healthy and bullpen get back to how good it was I don't think anyone can beat them in the playoffs.
