    Forgot to mention the case is fully reversible, so you can flip the motherboard tray around and have the mobo on the right side, PSU on the left, etc. Kinda cool, but hardly unique. IMO you'll still need to run a custom loop & leverage more of this case's features for it to be worth the $179.99 US MSRP. Feel free to share your thoughts.

      It also seems as tho you couldn't use the upright mount for a watercooled gpu, as the inlet/outlet ports that protrude from the card wouldn't fit with the front panel on. I guess the EK 30 series FE blocks would be ok, but other than that, the block wouldn't fit

      So you can mount your GPU with the upright kit and the rad on "top" in the reverse setup. Then remove the plate for the back and 120mm on the side or the mesh front panel

    The rear plate for the upright GPU, not the bracket but the plate itself ... is reversible.
    If you inverted that plate it would set over an inch further back in the chassis.
    That means that the bracket would also be set back, which means you wouldnt have had a problem with the rad up top, or fans, or be too close to a rad or fans on the bottom, and/or you could put a 240 rad on the front panel.
    The reversibility of that panel is key to the design ... I guess you missed that.

  • @PhilPhysix

    well to be honest this review seems rushed and not thought through. a lot of wrong explanations and the critics you took on the case all seemed like you did not have a clear thought on how to do things. GPU power for example: you could easily run the cables below/behind the gpu through the gromit directly to the psu.
    do you really complain about the temps when not even fitting the case with fans? why not put a 360 rad at the top and 3 fans at the bottom? it's like you actually try to make the case look bad.
    i hope you remake this review with a bit more thought behind it.

    If custom painting of a case is “basic,” then this case is a dream with all its and modularity. Strictly from a parts build, I still find it a leap beyond most alternatives as one vendor has it listed for ~$150 US. That price seems very competitive given its flexibility.

  • @Admiral_Nimtz
    @Admiral_Nimtz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +94

    The problem is you didn't turn around the mounting plate that the GPU holder can bolt to. The front right side mounting plate not only can be changed but is reversable an moves it closer to the right outside panel giving you more room on the inside of the case to mount the top rad an fans. Looks like you rushed this build a little to get the review out.

      Yeah and his assessment is just bafflingly dumb. "The average builder can't use this! It'd be a waste!"
      Why? It's not much more and if you have a GPU mounted normally, it'll be just as good as the tens of thousands of builds using other Lian Li 011's? Not onlt that but these cases as we know can even work with vertical GPU's too etc etc.
      There's no NEED to custom loop this at all, and he simply built this terrible. Liek this is a garbage build, if you showed me pictures of this and went "The verge built another terrible computer!" I'd believe it was the verge lol.

    I've done a couple of builds in the past so no expert but this case can be utilised for a basic or advanced builders. It lets you customize in so many ways, including reverse, which if like me you need to switch the viewing side of your rig is a big deal - how was this an after thought?! Yes, inverting a case is not unique but to be done this well actually is.
    The negativity in this review is dumbfounding for a case this good - cable management, modularity, aesthetics all bang on the money.
    I was totally opened minded about choosing a case for my new build but after reading countless reviews I knew this was the one, I wasn't disappointed! This case was made for the community from listening and implementing their ideas. Great job Lian Li & Der8auer.

    I can't really figure out why you were so set on mounting a 280mm AIO or 140mm fans at the top or bottom. Why not install a 360mm AIO at the top and some triple 120mm fans at the bottom? Then you wouldn't have clearance issues with the side mounted GPU.
    Furthermore, I'm pretty sure there is a way to mount the other side panel behind the GPU to mount fans. You just have to get creative.
    P.S. - PCIe 4.0 extension cables do exist on the market and would allow you to run that cable behind the motherboard for a much cleaner look

    I did a build with this case. I got a good deal at Micro Center in my area, so I got it over the XL (which was full price). Not a bad little build. I mounted the AIO Radiator (GA 2 Trinity 360) on top. Single fan set (not push/pull) blowing out. I mounted the GPU (2.5 slot) in the traditional location - no riser cables or other nonsense. 1 120 fan in the back blowing out (traditional). Bottom set of 3 fans intake. Side set of 3 fans intake.
    This is a 14700K with the RTX 4070 Ti build with the Avermedia PCIe capture card. All works really well. Looks pretty good to since I went with the Lian Li Uni v2 fans. System will be mainly recording, streaming, and light video editing. Specs are a bit overkill but got a nicer system because of BF specials and the PCIe capture card requires NVIDIA GPUs for 60fps capture - otherwise, I would have opted for the Intel Arc A770 and a lower end chip.
    I do agree, this case goes on a desk not the floor - which I true for any "showcase" PC case like the O11D series.

  • @kasper_429

    3 things. #1: I'm pretty sure you're meant to use the fan bracket with the upright GPU mount so you'd have big, wide-open spaces (yeah!) to route the PCIe cables through. I could be wrong, idk.
    #2: IMO, the upright GPU bracket is just a gimmick and was clearly not thought through that well. It would look a lot cleaner if the riser cable was just a bit longer, so you could run it through the cable grommet right beside the GPU and then up through the bottom hole (if it were wide enough) where front panel connectors and fan/RGB cables would normally go.
    #3: I feel like 99% of people would just use the regular GPU/PCIe slots or the normally-vertical GPU mount that attaches where the PCIe slots are. The "upright" mount is just for show, IMO.
    Besides the things mentioned above, I love this case. They really improved on the design and the modularity is amazing.

    • @playeronthebeat

      length of the riser cable is absolutely my biggest down side for this case as well. The rest is managable. This, however, is pure garbage. You could fit it easily through the grommets and below the motherboard. It just needs to have the appropriate length. Sadly, though, they didn't do that for the final version. :/
      But still, I guess I'm gonna buy that case and that accessory... The case is just too much perfect for me and my use case.
      Maybe I'll find another riser cable or something that'd make this thing work like a charm!

    If you did a custom loop in this case, could you fit a 240 rad with fans up top with the GPU in the upright configuration? Another thought would be with the GPU taking up the normal Pump/Res area you would almost need to go with a distro plate on the front, so you don't end up blocking the view of the GPU which again is kind of a main reason for going with this case.

    • @Matt-gf4gd
      @Matt-gf4gd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get where you're coming from, but I think it can be done to make it even more cooling efficient in vertical upright position given you get a much more efficient air stream in the unobstructed "chimney" cooling format where fresh air sucks in the bottom and straight up through the exhaust. Also you can get a slim 20mm radiator and slim fans and fit a 3rd radiator behind the vertical GPU. Just food for thought.

    • @MoparMooser
      @MoparMooser 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Matt-gf4gd there is some other dude on here that did a break down of thermals for different fan configurations, and no matter how you do it, mounting the GPU upright causes higher temps for the GPU and the entire case. The main reasoning is that those side mounts provide great airflow for a radiator and the gpu is blocking all of that space and pushing hot air off of the GPU into the center of the case. Obviously its normal for a gpu to do this, but this issue lies with the gpu covering a massive vent allowing air to only come in from the bottom and out the top. If the side is used as an intake radiator, then you’ll be pulling in air from the side and the bottom allowing for a bigger surface area for the air to flow.
      All that being said: if you like the upright design and your temps don’t get out of control, by all means go for it. I just don’t see very many people buying a case like this to NOT attempt to take advantage of the airflow

    • @Matt-gf4gd
      @Matt-gf4gd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MoparMooser I actually didn't notice much worse temps in the upright. You can still probably mount a radiator there as well.... There's plenty of space leftover, depending on your card... I'd say about 40-60mm behind the GPU.
      I tried different orientations and found that the upright position lowered my CPU temps and increased my GPU temps slightly, but not by much. I found an odd orientation seemed to work pretty well where I mounted a 140mm fan as intake behind the GPU in upright at the bottom and an exhaust 140mm at the top behind the GPU. Thermals seemed pretty good with that setup, though I could see using the whole side as intake unobstructed probably gives slightly better thermals. I'm intending to go custom loop water cooled though with a bottom and top 360 radiator, so it wouldn't be an issue. If you're doing all air cooled, then probably a few % less optimal, but for the trade off of aesthetics I still kinda like it personally.

    Sorry man, but seems all the problems you mentioned after your build had to do with the parts you selected to use in this build and the distribution you decided also. You didn't know how to optimize and use wisely all that available space. The fail goes to your planning not to the case design.

    Umm route the PCIe 3x8 pin behind the GPU and not through that teeny tiny hole. There are other PCIe 4.0 riser cable extenders that are longer so they can also be routed behind the GPU and out of sight. For reference see GGF Events YT review.

    Beautiful case, but I feel the mesh should come standard on it, not the glass. I would also like to have the top I/O as standard instead of the little module. I have no issues standing up to plug something into a usb port. The vertical GPU mount seems gimmicky.
    Too bad you can't custom order cases like this and select the parts you want to come with it. I like this case more than my Meshify 2 XL, but not at the additional cost of customizing it the way I would like it to be. I would like it with the mesh front, the solid front panel in place of the vertical video card, and the top metal panel with the I/O holes in it. I should be able to call them up, tell them what I want and they ship it to me without the stuff I don't want.

    The only way I see the riser cable working is if it was longer and you could route it behind the case. Problem is that if you could route it behind the case, you would be potentially blocking off PCIE slots. (if you go down)
    I honestly don't see a situation that the riser cable wouldn't look bad. Lian Li didn't stop to think if they should

  • @daviniarobbins9298
    @daviniarobbins9298 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Radiator shouldn't be at the bottom of the case with the pump above it. You will have all the air in the pump which is bad. Better to fit the radiator to the roof or the side. Rookie mistake there. Hope you corrected that.
    Edit: Turn the case upside down. Not ideal but at least then the air will be in the radiator not the pump.

  • @Admiral_Nimtz
    @Admiral_Nimtz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I also forgot to mention not only is there a mesh front option but the solid inside panel has a open mesh option that is also reversable on the front right to again make room for the GPU. In my opinion you didn't give a accurate review of this case, instead a rushed half done build that is far below what this case is capable of.

  • @lowellford3419
    @lowellford3419 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would never put an AIO radiator below the pump housing. Over time air can build up around the pump and near run dry. Mount the radiator for an AIO "above" the cpu level like at the top of your case...not the bottom.

    The only thing that's killing me, personally for the accessory is the fact that it seems like you aren't able to route the riser cable behind the motherboard.
    Why didn't they include a riser cable that's long enough to fit this?
    This cable just... Destroys most of the atmosphere this case gives. Now you gotta probably buy a different riser cable if you want to an upright built in that case so that this cable won't be just running all over your built :/

    Good video, wrong build idea on that GPU. Traditional mount works best in this case and of course I always buy the mesh panels for the front if they offer it. I might splurge and get the newer EVO XL which fixes all these issues and is a nice step up from my lancool II mesh.

  • @BAWBBAGET
    @BAWBBAGET 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Knowing what I know now, having barely finished a 4090 build with a vertical mount from coolermaster, I would not have gotten this case. The bottom mount fan mount especially being on a rail instead of it letting you screw it directly to the case has made the vertical mount installation barely feasible because it’s touching the fans due to the slightly elevated height. Then there’s the fact that online videos have had the old version being demonstrated, providing an inaccurate presentation, notably when taking out the case with just a pull whereas the new version actually has screws attached BEFORE you can pull it off.
    Ridiculously annoying build.

    I think you could route the PCIE 8 pins plug through the bottom side rubber grommet, and you should not feel painful by going that route. And, also while you can opt for a 360 AIO with the upright GPU, why insist to stick with 280 AIO? I think the EVO presents ideas of future proof, thinking about the different possibility for different configuration and option. This case will carry over for many years and many different new builds along the way with different option that can make it look and perform differently. Again, opinion can be different but just propose another angle.

    So theres an issue with the Strix OC Cooler while mounted in the upright position. If the case is inverted, the Strix Oc card can drop close to 20c. It has something to do with the design of the Stric cooler. Not the case. Great case for a custom water cooling build.
