    One thing to note: Jay is mounting the CPU radiator as intake, but Lian Li's page suggests mounting it as exhaust, drawing in fresh air from the rear opening of the case. This setup should prevent the potential hot air exhaust-intake loop on the side.

    • @adamm419

    • @65Red
      @65Red 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I can see that working that way, but it would also make it a highly negative pressure setup. 2-3 fans on the GPU intaking vs the 3 provided case fans and the 2-3 on the AIO exhausting would make that case a dust magnet.

    I’m not 100 percent sure, cause the Lian-Li website is currently down, but I believe the case is intended to be used with both the side fans and aio radiator set as exhaust. That’s why there’s no filter on that side of the case. Then your intake air comes from the fan that can be mounted on the back. I would love to see some temperature testing with the case in that configuration.

    • @Dexx1s
      @Dexx1s 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +83

      Being realistic, it's not going to be good, but is not supposed to be. The GPU is taking in air for itself only. It doesn't care one bit about the rest of the components.

    • @Goatchees3
      @Goatchees3 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

      it's not truly using the GPU as the "intake" imo. You have 3 intake fans right behind it doing 90% of the intake already

    • @douglasmurphy3266
      @douglasmurphy3266 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Obviously nowhere near as much as 3 unhindered fans. But look at a teardown of a 4090, the actual board is about half-length. Those things are mostly radiator. It would depend on the board, but they are *by design*, passing air through them. It looks oriented to where the backplate is on the bottom and the far end sticks up to the top, so the top half will be passing air through. Not much different from a case that has drives, a PSU chamber, or a relocated PSU itself in the bottom front.

      A benchmark like his will rarely showcase a cases true potential. That's why his charts are always lead by cases which include big and high speed fan speeds. Like the torrent, which is a one trick pony. Most cases, aim for a middle of the road balance.
      That's why components like cases are better off in "showcase" type reviews. Pass/fail, then personal preference.

    Why didn't you install the fan on the rear that sits on the back of the half height pcie expansion slots. Also Jay, other people reviewing this case have the AIO set to exhaust so it doesn't fight with the exhaust fans. That way your only intake is your GPU fans and the one on the rear of the case.

      Silverstone doing this "new" idea of GPU intake and separate compartment for cpu and GPU for years. Dune came out first and MANY elements of star wars is based on it.

      @@SaiakuNaSenshu Do they have another front mount GPU case than the ALTA G1-M? Because that's an mATX case with a different layout than than this one. The front mount GPU is the only thing those two at least share in common.

    Lian-Li was the first case I bought way back in 2007, really nice quality, I gave it to a friend after I rebuilt in a new case but I miss it.
    Really interesting unconventional layout and I admire the tasteful RGB, not everything needs to be really flashy and Lian-Li definitely know how to keep things clean and sharp looking.

    That extra 120mm fan tray is also an accessory included with current versions of the 216 (I have one) -- according to the instructions it's meant to help with air flow if you use the optional vertical mount kit.

    I've been using a Silverstone SUGO 15 for almost 3 years, which also uses the GPU fans as the main intake. And it has the added factor of being a mini-ITX case, which makes it even more impressive.
    I have an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 7 5800X3D in there. the CPU is cooled with a 240mm AIO. It's a difficult build, but it's awesome. Very powerful in a tiny volume, and it has never thermal throttled on me.
    I don't see this case as anything extraordinary. Someone else did the same before, and did it better.

    Thank god a good video about this case. I've been waiting for one of these main channels to make a vid about this case cause the two I've seen so far have not done a good job in explaining the case. I just saw a bunch of 2 second pans of the case and no one showed actually building in it. Just empty once sec and boom fully built the next.

    Awesome review, covered any question I could have asked on this. Truly a nice case. The design seems like it would be bad if doing a full custom water loop, but for someone wanting to build a nice pc and just go cpu AIO, this seems perfect. Hope to see a lot of people building with this and will recommend to friends. The R&D behind it is crazy.

    Awesome Case and review!
    Imagine it with a Gigabyte Aorus Master (whatever gen) Graka, The RGB fans shining through the mesh!😍
    Also with a blower-type card. Which would complement what I think, despite what you said about "being scared card as intake, enough pressure etc". Because I think the card was never really meant as an intake, but as excluded from the whole system, to not interfere heat wise, as much as possible.
    As we all know: Card air doesn't go out at the backplate, only on the sides and I.O.Shield. All the card air is meant to leave the case as fast as possible, plus not being heated by all the other component's air, which is simply genius!
    Like having a card sitting on the bench beside, the hottest part in your system, NOT BEING in your system.
    If they had a little 4-10cm mesh/exhaust at the front of the left panel, all air from the card would leave the system instantly.
    Tbf could destroy some of the, very nice, aesthetics, having the left panel not 100% glass.

    Interesting case.. Though, not a fan of how much dp/hdmi cable that goes in on through the opening and bottom of the case. Works great if you have your case on your desk. But if you have your case off desk or anywhere else, seems like you'll have to buy a much longer dp/hdmi cable. As mentioned, it would have been great if Lian Li included an adapter or cord connecting from gpu that's serves as intake to the the back part of the case where a connector would be mounted. And the hole seems small to route more than 2 connectors (for dual or triple monitor setups).
    Using a gpu fans as intake, I'd like to see more tests on how effective that is.

    I really appreciate the half height PCI slots. I've seen a case or two go for an ATX board with a slim design and a vertical mount, but they pretty much just covered or deleted the additional slots. It's harder to find half height stuff sometimes, but having the option is muuuch preferred to not.
