  • Cook carrots, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower. parsnips, butternut squash all in one go in the Halogen Oven. I par boil the potatoes, carrots and parsnips for 10 mins and cook them altogether for an hour at 200 degrees. You don't have to par boil if you like your veg more crunchy. Jan takes you through another good cooking recipe for the Halogen oven.
    you can buy your Halogen oven here through our Amazon link www.dereton33.c...

    I bought a halogen oven ages ago, but the instruction book said to put all the food on the rack and not directly in the bowl, which is useless for doing veg. I ended up putting it into storage. I'm pleased to know you can actually roast veg without a rack. I will go and get it back out of storage now.

      If like myself, you prefer yours less cooked (it is a matter of personal taste after all) then if you want extra crispy outsides on your roast potatoes, then par-boil for 4-5 mins .... just to soften the outside of the potatoes a little, drain, then give them a good shake about in the pan to "fluff" them up a little, then put into the oven, and cook for about 25-35 mins, test with skewer, if you need a little longer cooking, then put them back on for an extra 5-10 mins!Carrots and parsnip I personally would not par-boil, but cut them into slightly thinner strips than you would for conventional oven, and then cook in with the potatoes .... adjust times according to the "done - ness" of your liking! Again, all down to personal taste! The way that dereton33 describes, would absolutely suit my daughter in law, but not me TBH I prefer more crunch to veg! To my mind, there is no right or wrong way here, it is as I said a matter of personal taste, so the thing to do is EXPERIMENT! (and enjoy!) Hope this helps anyone in doubt! xxx and I hope dereton33 you don't mind me saying all this? :) xxx ( Just to add, thanks to you, I am now discovering the joys of using my halogen oven! xx)

    I have had a halogen oven used it until I wore it out. Bought a new one a month ago. The food comes out lovely and moist on the inside and roast pork has the best crackle.
    I have found that they do not cook quicker than conventional oven but the are cheaper to run so save on your power bill and they are so easy to keep clean because most of them have a wash cycle that are the benefits.
    Love mine only use conventional oven for large quantities which is not that often anymore because I cook for 2 , 90% of the time.
    It does not cook fast like a microwave so you need to allow for the cooking time.

    I own a Halogen oven. But I would never do this. Why use the oven if you boil it for an hour first. The point of the oven is "less work" . This just gave an extra hour washing up. As the other comment pointed out...where is the meat? What was the meat...or did the family eat only veggies?

  • @patrickjohnson5658
    @patrickjohnson5658 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The bottom line here is you cannot boil potatoes or veg directly from scratch in a halogen as opposed to just steaming them. I tried boiling water in one at its highest setting to no avail. So I use my halogen for roasting chicken portions, cooking steak and other meats and sometimes chips.The boiling I leave to doing in a saucepan on a small portable single electrical hob as I have no big oven as I have only myself to cook for.

  • @premasru

    I don't think the Halogen oven bowl part is particularly useful for vegetarians. The grilling part is great for cooking frozen veggie burgers, vegetarian sausages, that type of thing, frozen chips. Steaming vegetables in a regular steamer takes maximum 20 minutes, and you can collect the small water from the veggies.

      Rara D, I thought the same. It makes me almost angry due to the vast amount of energy that is wasted throughout the heavily complicated method. Also again she is using tons of aluminum foil. She seems crazy about it. I guess that is due to the braincells it kills. People either use it in tons or hate it and don't use it at all. I never saw someone use it reasonable. Though to me there is no reasonable use of tin foil, because it's nothing but useless but so harmful and wasteful

    Hm, I don't really understand. If I precook the vegetables, then I can cook them to the end, without a halogen oven, stopping, turning it. etc. Goes much quicker.... To pour away the cooking water of potatoes is a great mistake, too. I think, there is an other way, to use this thing effectively.

      It uses far less power ,so it saves you money once you get the hang of it & use it often , it's cheaper than buying an an oven & hob as well as having a very small foot print in a confined dwelling place .....so a good present to people starting out on their own such as a newly qualified student or an ex services person coming back home to the mother land .
      As it does not use more power than 1000 watts it won't not make your kitchen extra hot in summer ....... good if you live in a tower block & don't have a garden to go out into .

      @dereton33  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on there size. If you pre boil them also effects the timings. So roughly 20 minutes for small ones boiled first and 30 minutes for large boiled, add another 10 if they have not been boiled first.

  • @poisonempress

      +Firebird's Child You don't have to par boil them if you don't want to and do not have the facilities to do so. I like to par boil mine as that makes them start to crumble and you get the most awesome crackly roast spuds. Do not worry if you do not have cooking facilities you can pop your potatoes into the Halogen, just allow a little longer to cook right through and not be hard in the middle. You can check by piercing with a skewer. Thanks for watching jan

Why does one have to "par" boild anything first? Anyway what the hell is "par boil" anyway? Cook them first a little? If so whats the point of even buying one of these if one has to "half boil/cook" anything first? Oh and its taking more then 18-25 mins to cook just chips? As i say, ive only just bought one of these so i have no idea how to use it properly! Great vid and i hope to see more and have a great day!

    This is a bit off topic. I've recently bought an Andrew James halogen oven. The one with the hinged lid and digital controls. According to the booklet I should use the lower rack for pizzas. However when I do so, the base is soggy! Have you experienced this problem? I also have a higher rack and an airfryer I was going to experiment with, but any info to save me from burnt pizzas would be appreciated!

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dalriada842 I would use the higher rack with the spacer, however as you have the model with the hinge lid you will not be able to do this, so how about trying to cook the pizza by placing it on a baking tray and then on the rack. Hopefully the heat will transmit through the tray and make it crisp? Good luck Jan

    • @dalriada842
      @dalriada842 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dereton33 I have the spacer ring too. There is a clip that allows the hinged mechanism to be raised and lowered. I'll try your suggestion of the higher rack and spacer. Thanks!

      Even if you want to cook roast potatoes in a conventional oven it is necessary to par boil them for ten minutes . Any cookbook will tell you this. Halogen ovens are cheaper to run than conventional ovens, especialy if you are cooking for one or two people.

    Why do you insist in cooking in the bowl this is dangerous and will not let the air circulate, this is why you get trays

    The halogen oven is not good for everything..Good for bought pies and all meat..Pizza is useless in the Halogen..They are not cracked up to be all that. Hence why the prices have come down. You can cook par boiled root veg but I prefer the oven..They only take 30 mins to cook in my oven..Or use an air fryer

    The foil is bad for the brain if you let the food tach the foil.

    • @stephanieo6252
      @stephanieo6252 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Newest studies state otherwise. It's not harmful to cook in foil. However it makes no sense to put food in foil when cooking in this. That's crazy.

    What did I just watch! Boil and add OIL hmm....... Just use your oven as you defeated the purpose of the gadget you purchased. I mean the food looks great, I understand the concept of what you are saying. But for the purpose of reviewing this gadget you purchased............. You just went 360 4x.
