    Thoroughly enjoy your videos. I’ve been using a Halogen for several years now & plan on using more to save on conventional gas oven usage, your easy to follow instructions in a normal surroundings so much better than reading from a recipe book, I’m only cooking for two now which is on par with your good selves, quantities etc. I’ve now followed successfully your roast beef & pork videos & will now try roasting gammon. Well done. Maggie

    Thank you. Very helpful. I have just started using the Halowave Aircooker Deluxe - which has a rotating rotisserie. That makes for even cooking without having to turn the chicken half-way through. Also, it makes it more credible to roast potatoes underneath as there's less watery juices dripping because water content evaporates, leaving fat to drip (plus I use less oil/fat to begin with as it "aircooks" instead). I successfully tried 80 minutes at 180 degrees C on the rotating rotisserie for a 3 pound chicken, plus leave to rest for 20 mins.

      No problem. I would say for most foods, it cooks much, much faster than a conventional oven but for a chicken or other big meat etc, for example one 2KG or more you need to cook for atleast 1hr 10mins min, I would say, give 45 mins per KG min. I have a 12l Elgento model, the bulb is very bright and the bulb turns on and off during cooking, I am assuming it is a normal function due to the thermostat etc.

    FABULOUS VIDEOS!!!! I've just bought my very first halogen oven. It's a 12L Andrew James, with a hinged lid. I've tried following the instructions in the manual/cookbook provided, but somehow the cook times just don't work. I enjoyed your video on cooking/steaming veg and also cooking chicken. They were very helpful. I wonder, do you perhaps have a very basic video on halogen cooking, please, for a novice like me? All the best, Jeanette - London.

      I bought the same Andrew James halogen and I am thrilled with the easy way the food is cooked. I also often microwave carrots for 4 minutes, then wrap in foil with a knob of butter (and nothing else) and place the foil parcel in the halogen alongside the meat and the carrots are just beautiful. I also bought a Halogen recipe book which I have found useful.

    Thanks for your great videos. I have just bought my first halogen cooker Re your point about not being able to do the roasties with the chicken, I don't see this as a problem as meat should always be left to rest for at last 20 mins before carving. I cooked my fist chicken today for way longer than you said and it was still slightly underdone and had to go back. I had tried doing some potatoes with it. I will do it on it's own next time and see what happens. Thanks for the 'season all' tip!

    Regardless how you cook a chicken or any bird for that matter, it always a good idea to slide a knife under the skin to separate the skin from the meat. The reason is to make the skin much nicer when the chicken is ready to eat :-) Great video.

      +dereton33 ...my pleasure.i've been using mine for 10 yrs i've only ever used the ring a few times..you really only need it if you have something very large to roast and is too close to the element if you do use it you need to turn the temperature up a lot higher than without it as it seems to lose some of its heat ...also for the last half an hour if there is not enough room around the roast for spuds etc you can put the higher rack on over the meat and cook the spuds pumpkin whatever ..then the ring might be an advantage ........David ..

    Maybe you could repeat the temperature a bit more as I think you only mentioned the temp once and that were 200c whereas you mentioned the time quite a few times as the video went on I forget what temp you put it on? So maybe at the end of your video you could do a quick recap on the temp and the time it take to cook as people don't want to be cooking a chicken at 60c for 1.10mins

    Had an issue just now when lowering the chicken into the pre heated oven....burned fingers ! Yea I probably should have put the rack in during the pre heating process as lowering in the chicken by itself would have been easy. My resolution was to thread string through both sides of the rack, tie the ends and create a cradle to make the lowering process simple and...pain free. How do others get round this ?

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use thin oven gloves.

    • @mallarduk
      @mallarduk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dereton33 Awww that's way too sensible! But noted for next time. My bird was 1.6kg and I gave it 90mins at 200c, turning it over half way through (initially breast down) and I never needed the extension ring or tin foil near the end. The skin was crispy and the meat ultra moist - although a little red in places along the leg bones, so bined those parts.
      Overall, a success, but due to the 200c temp, no faster than a conventional oven.

    I thought that with the flow of hot air there is no need to turn meats. Other than electricity savings I don't see an advantage of using one of these vs a standard oven. What am I missing?

      A quicker cooking time, lower wattage use and tastier food.

    • @Vexarax
      @Vexarax 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also the advantage is that if you just don’t have a regular oven, and/or can’t afford one - one of these does EVERYTHING a regular oven does, literally. I got mine for $20NZD second hand (I think that’s like $USD?) and am so impressed with everything I’ve been able to cook in it - and so much more quickly than a regular oven too!!
      The ONLY thing I struggled slightly with to start with was making gravy after a roast, as it’s hard to catch the juices. But I now know I can use tinfoil under the rack or just stick everything directly in the bowl, and scrape out the juice after.
      I still have two stovetop elements working on the broken big oven, so transfer the juices into a pan for gravy making. If I didn’t have those, I’d only need to buy one of those little plug-in double elements.
      So yeah they’re definitely convenient for people in a tight spot financially. Everyone was telling me to buy a microwave - THANK GOD I USED THE MONEY ON THIS INSTEAD!!!

    Hi. I'm paranoid when it comes to cooking chicken in my halogen. I've always checked to ensure that the meat is cooked but get worried that sometimes a red liquid is in the cavity and there is some redness around the bone joints. I've read this can be the case with young birds (it's supposedly not blood) due to mass rearing techniques. In your opinion drawing on your experience is thia right?

      Just bought a Visicook halogen oven a few weeks ago and about to cook my first whole chicken in it...hence checking for hints and tips as the crappy info that came with it said 10mins/lb at 240c which clearly is nonsense. As for the splatter when cooking meats, mine came with a splatter guard to fit under the lamp which has worked well so far.

    I roasted a "chicken on a tray" as you can buy at Tesco, Lidl and all the other supermarkets and the tray is handy as basin for the dripping fat, while the chicken can be put on the low rack. imgur.com/a/CZeeWIJ . I grilled the bird 20min at 180degrees (C) with extension ring, starting its back (put a slice of lime in it), the turned and another 20min on top. Turned again for 10min @200C and finally on the top for another 10min: It was lovely! imgur.com/a/g3pptd8
