The second boss is called Afilaor, not Alifaor. It's a very interesting wordplay in Spanish: an 'afilador' is a guy who works sharpening blades and knives (like the boss), they were common in the past in Spain; and an 'afilaor' without the 'd' is the word you'll hear when people from Andalucia, a southern region of Spain where a huge chunk of Blasphemous iconography originates, pronounce 'afilador' because of their accent. It's a really clever idea.
Adding to this great info, this little high-pitched whistle kinda sound you occasionally hear at the boss' theme is, actually, the whistle these sharpeners used to announce themselves when walking the streets. It's a quite nostalgic sound to hear if you've grown or spent some vacation time in some little town of southern Spain. Gameplay/moveset aside, the best boss design in the game imo, due to sheer creativity alone.
I like Incarnate Devotion the same way I like the Divine Dragon from Sekiro, it’s not meant to be a pressure test but a grand spectacle that you march through with authority. In Blasphemous’ case it’s a final hurrah after already beating the hardest boss prior. I can understand some ppl wanting another real challenge for the end-game boss but I think it balances out with Eviterno being right before. Plus who knows maybe Game Kitchen will give him a new phase and ending like they did with Crisanta in B1
Yeah. Kinda like a victory lap. Demands just enough effort. Like when you beat Radagon and then fight Elden Beast (altgough for some its the other way around).
I feel bad then for dying 6 times against him 😂. I honestly think they updated him because he has so much health and deals tons of the damage even with the rosary beads, and I absolutely hate that the flowers respawn while having ridiculous health and spamming fireballs
thats a good way to look at it. I guess you could look at Incarnate as a victory lap / spectacle like DD, and Eviterno as the true final boss. Then its not so bad :)
I get your gripes with Incarnate Devotion, however I have two counterpoints, 1. Though his attacks are limited I find them very fun to dodge, similar to Eviterno’s second phase, of course it having a simple moveset kinda makes sense since blud was literally just born and 2. His design is so visually stunning that the whole fight could literally just be staring at him and I’d be satisfied but that’s just me. Personally Blasphemous’ artstyle is my favorite of any game.
A simple moveset can still be difficult. Like even eviterno's moveset wasn't that complex Sword slash, Teleporting sword slash, sword air cut, summoning Flame pillers, huge sword cut, rinse and repeat. The problem was how fast he was. Devotion is just, mid. He could've atleast been like Escribar with a few spells
Benedicta is my favorite boss in the game because of the atmosphere. You’re fighting a ghost doll while endlessly rocketing up the tower, and then she takes out one of the platforms. As someone who’s loves platforming, this was a blast and I thought it was very radiance-like
eviterno threw me for such a loop. HUGE difficulty spike compared to the relative dip from the midgame up until the end. i was getting disappointed because you get all this mobility but the boss fights rarely make meaningful use about it. but eviterno really pushes you to make use of all of the games mechanics. one of the best boss fights in recent gaming history. it's a shame that they threw the 1st phase in there because it's kinda boring and very easy and you're always just trying to rush through it to get to the good part. idk what possesses developers to so desperately cling on to this trope of boss design.
The first phase is kinda needed, like a calm before the storm, and for you to build up the frevor needed for the second phase he has lesser health than infanta so it doesn't matter anyways. You can wreck him with veredicto
Absolutely hated this boss fight. The combination of the teleports and same-y animations for everything made it very hard to read his attacks, so the best option was just to borderline cheese him with lunge attacks from the rapier, which seem to have generous i-frames. Not to mention how easy the first phase was, the interminable dialogue, and the long phase transition... It just took forever to do new attempts.
@@notstarboard The dialogue in the beginning, and the middle are a gigantic stain on this fight. It would have been so much better without the downtime. I both love and hate this boss.
I Guess it was my build cuz Eviterno fight wasn't that big of a deal difficulty wise as everyone made him out to be. got him in my 4th or 5th try, all of them were close attempts , almost had him in my first try too but him summonong all the past bosses threw my rhythm off. was doing melee only too. also forgot to get my last base damage upgrade in my RuegaAlba skilltree as well lol. so i dont get it. he is incredibly fair and well telegraphed with fair hitboxes. i guess me only using ruega al alba and trying to play the whole game stylishly with combos helped. it was easy to get a certain full combo after his specific moves so i knew when to retreat, or use my Upward slash or downward plunge etc and as movement techs to avpid his attacks and act as gap closers etc
I'm surprised that he hasn't mentioned the parry mechanic at all, although based on the gameplay it seems he mostly played with the flail anyway. The parry was really useful and very rewarding against every melee boss, making them even better imo.
I most enjoyed Afilaor and Orospina. I wanted to fight them again as soon as I defeated them. Eviterno was very cool to learn. Phase 2 was a masterpiece and had my heart racing.
the video i was waiting for blasphemous 2 was such an excellent sequel to one and the boss quality was excellent also happy to see you back with consistent boss rankings
I didn't even know sínodo had that "floor is lava" attack, I used verdicto exclusively in that fight to regain fervor faster so I could spam this giant beam prayer that did massive damage
Playing through the game without upgrading your prayer beads really changes how you see the bosses, at least it did for me. Without the resistances you get from the beads, a lot of them will kill you in a couple of hits, which makes bosses like Sinodo a bullet hell like experience. If you thought some of the bosses were underwhelming, I highly suggest doing a run through without prayer beads.
as much as i enjoyed both of the top 2, I think I preferred Afilaor since you always had to do Eviternos first phase and couldn’t skip the cutscene. Still both great and overall great ranking
it is worth noting that, judging by the footage, Demod's playthrough was after the major balance patch that came out a couple of weeks ago. Prior to that, many of the mid-late game bosses were suuper easy, so they gave them a much needed buff. All that being said, even with the new balacing, it still hard to overstate just how much of an absurd difficulty spike Eviterno is. It was not only much harder than anything from the first game (including ng+ 3-phase Crisanta, which was no joke), but one of the hardest bosses I've beaten in general. For some context, it took me 3x as long to beat him than it did Malenia, 4,5hrs vs 1,5hrs. Though I did get stubborn and stuck with a parry-oriented approach, which is seemingly harder than just dodging everything.
Idk man, Eviterno was hard but comparing him to Malenia's weird. Might just be you're better at Elden Ring and paced yourself to learn her moves. I beat Inner Isshin with one hand (I've actually beaten the entirety of Sekiro with one hand lol) and Malenia was just something else.
I think that comes down to playstyle. I found none of the bosses to be as hard as some of the bosses of the first game (some of which were dlc, so maybe we'll get a similar spike in difficulty once a dlc for this one drops). I also focused a lot on parrying and i think it paid off. Didn't have that much trouble. Certainely not comparable to Malenia in any way shape or form for me.
@@axel9473 I definitely felt the bosses in this game were easier than part 1. Eviterno was oretty hard, but the DLC bosses from part 1 were still harder.
Hard disagree for me. I found third phase Crisanta on the first game waaaaaay harder than Eviterno. Evi took me 30 minutes to get. Crisanta I think I fought for hour and a half or two hours until admiting defeat, and had to try again the next day for another hour before finally winning. Still, both battles were pretty cool to me.
I hate Eviterno. It's since yesterday that I'm trying to beat him and still can't after 30+ tries. I find insufferable when a video game becomes a such frustrating and time consuming activity. Anyway, I appreciated your list!
How I beat Eviterno: Equip the time stopping chant, get 4-5 hits with veredicto (as it charges fervour faster) , stop time again and repeat. You'll have to dodge a few attacks but it wont be a problem.
Just finished Blashphemous 2 and I couldn't agree more, most in the sense of Odón. As I read he was much easier in the release version but was buffed extremely with the first patch. It toook me 2 days and about 8 hours to finally finish him. His attacks have a huge range and he can attack in the blink of an eye. This boss was such a chore. Eviterno on the other hand kicked my butt for good but after learning moveset more or less good, I was finally able to finish him. What a fight!
The Alifor sentinel part cracked me up. Afilaor is a slang for sharpener in spanish. In this case Blade sharpener. It was a common occupation in spanic countries back in the old times. Great content pal. Keep it up
Blasphemous 2 really did show how much they've learned from the previous game. I actually found the bosses in Blasphemous 1 to be a low point, more memorable for their bizarre designs than their mechanical quality. But the bosses in Blasphemous 2 just hit in all the right ways. Maybe it's because the game offers you a greater range of mobility and tighter response time, but each boss had a satisfying pace that I'd say only Quirce and Crisanta really achieved in Blasphemous. Shame they can't seem to get the final boss down, in both games it seems like the final boss is always the worst in terms of quality.
I felt a bit similar. Though i did enjoy the bosses (except exposito, that thing can go fuck itself) i do agree that compared to even other souls likes (salt and sanctuary, nioh 2, both remnant games, code vein, ect) they definitely didnt live up Well...the anunciadas (idk if thats right) came along, they were fun and decently challenging. Then we got wounds of eventide and serpies and isidora are probably my favourrite bosses in the game, such a step up which gave me absolute faith in this game
While I’m sure Odon could be a tough fight, my build absolutely wrecked him. I used the sword and just activated its ability then went ham. The dude was dead before I realized it
She's an early game boss and your experience varies wildly based on what you've found by that point. She is parry able but her timings are not super clear so I ended up just dodging and dodging.
Been waiting for this video. Your ranking of the Blasphemous 1 bosses is why I got the game. I absolutely loved it and it is why I bought Blasphemous 2 the day it came out. I think the quality far surpassed the first game and we have the same top two bosses so this was a great piece of content to see come across my subscription page
My list is like this 11 : faceless one 10 : svsona 9 : benedicta 8 : sinodo 7 : incernate devotion 6 : odons 5 : radames 4 : lesmes and infanta 3 : orospina 2 : afialor 1 : eviterno Overall I love this game more than the first one
You can use the single blade weapon to parry most of the hits. And most of the time it gives you a window of invulnerability not including magical attacks.
Fighting Odón now, I hate him. I like also like the idea of the fight, i love his visual design and the arena is my personal favorite boss backdrop. I particularly like how you see Odón in the distance prior to his drop in entrance. I don't usually play super difficult games like Blasphemous that take inspiration from the souls games, which I hate. The game being 2D makes the souls design manageable for me, mostly. What I hate about Odón is the way my attack animations are getting me killed more than anything. I'm sure I'm guilty of getting greedy with my attacks, but my slow animations compared to his is annoying.
Interesting tip: If you are having difficulties with Eviterno, just go to either left or right corner of the screen and face him directly, this makes parrying him a lot easier and less frustrating (applies to all except one attack where he hurls a red shockwave at you, just jump over it)!
Pronunciation is hard and I don’t begrudge that but I do still think about your pronunciation of “ten piedad” at least once a day and lose it laughing So glad to get more boss rankings!!
Hey D. Love the video but did you ever do an updated blasphemous boss ranking video with new bosses? Also would you ever consider doing a ranking for Aeterna Noctis?
I think odon was a good fight, and lets take a moment of appreciation for the devs for actually thinking in removing the contact damage from those specific enemies odon summons! A big bravo because i believe any other 2d game would keep them doing damage just from touching them Susona captured me with the atmosphere of the fight, the music and the design of the boss itself, i cant say much i just love bosses that are static images either fixed in the background or floating around, perhaps its not too impressive to look at but is beautifully creepy like if you were fighting a painting that came out of its canvas Sinodo is straight up one of my favorites, his theme is fantastic and i like bullet hell bosses And out of all the bosses lesmes might be my favorite he is such a chad
The deal with Odon, even though he pissed me off at first is that it is a very easy fight if you are patient and not to greedy, so if you have Ruego Al Alba 2 hits only shall do and then stay away from him, because there is lots of opportunities to damage him, but he can also smoke you if you are in impatient and don't pay attention to evade his attacks. This fight is not as hard as it seems, I found the first encounter you have with him in the Sea of Ink much worse as you have less space to run away from him as in the actual fight. If you have the blue fire pillars prayer and the red blade in the ground prayer, that will also give him some extra damage
Second phase eviterno was so difficult that I never actually defeated him properly I kept using the pausing time prayer and crouch spinning veredicto over and over
Same. I really wanted to fight him properly, but his first phase + cutscenes made 3 min of something so tedious, that i cheesed it. Little free time to waste it in that.
Love the game, but once I discovered you can cheese any boss with “stop time + down attack with Veredicto + fervor enhancements to repeat process”, replayibility is definitely hurt for me. It’s gonna be hard not to cheese any boss if they piss me off
Demod, try out Vigil: the longest night. Very similar to blasphemous, except it focuses more on weapon still trees. Would love to see your take on the (mostly) amazing boss roster. Great vid as always ty!
Dude please, learn the Q combo skill for the chained mace weapon,as a main of it,it hurted my insides for the whole video to not see a single skill of it
When i killed the last boss i was talking to the screen "come on, second phase, no way this is so short and boring. Eviterno had 2 phases and was much harder and visually more interesting". I was shocked. The game is great, but the ending felt lackluster.
I had a fun time reading orospina's attack got to a point where I was parrying most of her attacks xD .....altho the parry time in this game is very generous
I'd be very curious for you to try Final Fantasy 16 and see how it goes. Given your only previous Final Fantasy experience was 7 Remake, I'd love to see how the two compare in your eyes. Though I suspect I'm in the minority in that curiosity, haha. Great content as always, and glad to see you back, DeMod.
Damm, this exactly I would order worst to best. It was a 10/10 game for me, one of the bests in this genera if not top #1. I can't wait for the DLCs. Good video ;) 💯 Ohh and let's not forget, the music is a masterpiece.
Easy, most are trash and then you get Chrisanta of the Wrapped Agony, Laudes the First Amanecida and Isidora Voice of the Dead. These 3 are insane and are better than pretty much any boss in both games
My only gripe with Eviterno is his 2nd phase transition take so damn long. Like seriously , first phase can be easily done hitless , so all challenge is on 2nd phase, so why keep forcing us to watch long transition cutscene that's unskippable? Yeah the problem with Blasphemous 2nd phase boss design is you cant skip the transition cutscene .
it's wild how our strats for bosses are pretty much a copypasta. It fills me with so much satisfaction. This sequel is a MASSIVE improvement over the original game
Love Eviterno but I wont put pride aside for one reason: Just kinda wish I fought bosses akin to him just slightly before lmao. Def enjoyed more so BS1 bosses tbh. But agreed enjoyed the last 4 on list.
Spectacle, absolutely. And it's a great game for what it is: complete combat freedom for the player, with a crazy high skill ceiling. But most of the bosses are only spectacle, with very little mechanical depth; with the caveat being: it's dependent on the player's setup and combat skill. Great game to check out for the combat in and of itself, and a decent story; but ranking the bosses comes down to ranking how efficiently the player uses their immense tool kit. And outside of the amazing combat, it's a mediocre FF game, due to some bizarre choices. Worth checking out though at least
@@ricardodarcangelo2437 the bosses aren’t mechanically deep but pretty much all of them have a massive move set with very creative moves and are overall really fun. It’s one of the best games I’ve played in a while just because of the sheer cinematic nature of the game, from the spectacular boss fights to the great story. It’s absolutely not a final fantasy game but I feel the series is going to be this way for the foreseeable future and it does it greatly.
The second boss is called Afilaor, not Alifaor. Yeessss. I knew this video had to be coming!!! So excited!
Nice to have u back, Demod!! Ahaha now I can finally take a break from re-watching the good ol' DS2 Demod-a-thon! 😂
Pronunciation is hard and I don’t begrudge that but I do still think about your pronunciation of “ten piedad” at least once a day and lose it laughing
So glad to get more boss rankings!!
Eviterno is a fusion of Artorias and Dracula. Can only be the best
The Sound glitch came with the latest update
I hear they are working on fixing it though
I would love to see a Remnant 2 bosses ranking. I really enjoyed the game!
The odon sound track glitch still persists.
A big bravo because i believe any other 2d game would keep them doing damage just from touching them
Susona captured me with the atmosphere of the fight, the music and the design of the boss itself, i cant say much i just love bosses that are static images either fixed in the background or floating around, perhaps its not too impressive to look at but is beautifully creepy like if you were fighting a painting that came out of its canvas
Sinodo is straight up one of my favorites, his theme is fantastic and i like bullet hell bosses
And out of all the bosses lesmes might be my favorite he is such a chad
I occasionally got the Odon sound glitch too, it REALLY threw me off
The one thing I HATED about Evinterno was the transition from Phase 1 to 2 EVERY GODAMN TIME!!!
will you rank the remnant 2 bosses?
Really waited for your review. 😍
Agree but the fire boss was best for me...the thousands voices i mean ost epic + nice idea
You now it's a goated video when you see afilaor gets mentioned.
The beginning is me getting out of bed. Oh and yes, I played the first game and just started the second game the other day.
Love the game, but once I discovered you can cheese any boss with “stop time + down attack with Veredicto + fervor enhancements to repeat process”, replayibility is definitely hurt for me. It’s gonna be hard not to cheese any boss if they piss me off
the "i better not catch you lacking blud" cheese
Will you do the Jedi Survivor boss ranking?
Great video as always! Would really love to see you rank the bosses of FF16 next!!!
When are you going to do a boss ranking of remnant 2?
could you do a ranking for the remnant 2 bosses?
In my experience, you can brute force through most bosses in mid and late games as long as you collect everything you can get at that moment.
Bro, Odon's sound glitch was the same for me. That sucks
Man it took me 2 hours to get through odon ,it was so irritating
~notes Yerma dead in the background of that one boss~
...Me too, buddy. Me too. :(
Hey you should revisit the first game after that ranking doesn't include the DLC bosses because I enjoyed that video as much as I on this
I don't regret cheesing Eviterno with the time stop
Demod, try out Vigil: the longest night. Very similar to blasphemous, except it focuses more on weapon still trees.
Would love to see your take on the (mostly) amazing boss roster.
Great vid as always ty!
Agreed, that game was pretty underrated and had some pretty great bosses and combat as well.
I was thinking of that game today. Such a nice metroidvania.
Do you plan to play Bayonetta 3 next? I hope you can rank their boss battles too
Remnant 2 also came out and I’d love to see a ranking of that
Eviterno was great. I remember how satisfying all the dodging was
Afilaor trapped me in a corner so many times
Dude please, learn the Q combo skill for the chained mace weapon,as a main of it,it hurted my insides for the whole video to not see a single skill of it
When i killed the last boss i was talking to the screen "come on, second phase, no way this is so short and boring. Eviterno had 2 phases and was much harder and visually more interesting". I was shocked. The game is great, but the ending felt lackluster.
Create some shorts for a set of DLC bosses for a popular horror game remake released this year.
I had a fun time reading orospina's attack got to a point where I was parrying most of her attacks xD .....altho the parry time in this game is very generous
damn, spoiling us so much rn, and theres more to come this year with a new Lords of the Fallen coming out in like 2 weeks
At the very least this game deserves an Art Direction nomination at the game awards. It should win though.
Could you do a Sea of Stars boss ranking next?
Using the time ability really made the game so much easier lmao.
I knew the finale would be lackluster considering the devs blew their entire load on eviterno the real final boss
If you want a marvelous metroidvania with incredible bosses, I can recommand you Grime
I don't think there's any boss I've hated in this game, which speaks to how good the game is.
Orospina tells you, no matter what you think is cool, its better to start with the sword
Eviterno is a beast of a boss...until you use the time stop prayer and the flail with figures that recover magic on hit and just flail spam lol
Damm, this exactly I would order worst to best. It was a 10/10 game for me, one of the bests in this genera if not top #1. I can't wait for the DLCs. Good video ;) 💯 Ohh and let's not forget, the music is a masterpiece.
Love the videos
you havent made bosses ranking video about Jedi Survivor
I don't know if it's just me but I kinda wish there was a new ranking for the original Blasphemous but with all the DLC bosses.
Easy, most are trash and then you get Chrisanta of the Wrapped Agony, Laudes the First Amanecida and Isidora Voice of the Dead.
These 3 are insane and are better than pretty much any boss in both games
*The voices of the dead cannot be stopped*
My only gripe with Eviterno is his 2nd phase transition take so damn long.
Like seriously , first phase can be easily done hitless , so all challenge is on 2nd phase, so why keep forcing us to watch long transition cutscene that's unskippable?
Yeah the problem with Blasphemous 2nd phase boss design is you cant skip the transition cutscene .
I think the Devs are being sadistic, it's the only dialogue in the whole game you can't skip
it's wild how our strats for bosses are pretty much a copypasta. It fills me with so much satisfaction. This sequel is a MASSIVE improvement over the original game
Really enjoyed the sequel, however the tile stop power completely breaks the game. Won’t be surprised if it gets patched
Love Eviterno but I wont put pride aside for one reason: Just kinda wish I fought bosses akin to him just slightly before lmao. Def enjoyed more so BS1 bosses tbh. But agreed enjoyed the last 4 on list.
I like Lesmes and Infanta but I prefer Moreles and Insprite
You've still gotta remake the original with the DLC bosses
You should do ff16 boss ranking, some of the best bosses in a game I’ve seen in a while. Spectacle is insane
Damn loved both games, just ended second one today. Have to find some other game to play in elden ring dlc waiting room :D
Incarnate devotion is literally just the radience boss from hollow knight
Hope you will do new Lords of the Fallen when it comes out. If only so I know if it will be worth playing.
demod posts and I tune in.
