Honestly I just started playing this game again and I was wondering if demons souls was still popular in 10/04/2024 this video makes me think it’s still doing great, now the reason why I was wondering this is the ghosts of other people were frequent but we have seen game publishers make some games more lively with fake players so I’m happy to see I’m not the only one that had an itch to play this game again. \[T]/ 😊
Hot take: I actually think Bed of Chaos is not one of my least favorite bosses in the series. It doesn’t even crack my bottom 10. I do agree with the criticisms people have with it. But for me, there’s nothing more satisfying than firebombing it to oblivion🖤😤
This is just the beginning of this 7 part series. What a way to begin. Aside from that.. I can understand why the bosses were way easier given that it was their first go at it. But yeah some of these bosses will always hold a wonderful memory in my heart. My top 5 are in random order. Tower Knight, Penetrator, Flamelurker, Old Hero, and yes False King Allant.
I do hope you are making these because you want to and have a passion for it. I know you get boss rank pressure from fans a lot but I also know people don't want to do that same thing all the time. So I hope this is a enjoyed venture for you.
Agreed, i love DeMod, and i feel bad for the criticism i gave for his inconsistency of uploads coupled with chiming in with random negative content that could've been better thought out in my opinion. I absolutely love his essay videos and rankings, but i really hope he is doing this out of passion like you say instead of trying to cater to an audience, but i think it will also be a bit of a revival for his channel too, i hope he gets all the views in the world.
We are so back. VERY excited for this series and the quality ranking video of all the bosses. Hoping Gael is still king, but I won't be surprised if Ludwig is at the top.
I hope you stay consistent when ranking these bosses after using all ur advantages and knowledge. People inflate Elden rings difficulty when they’re allowed to summon, choose not to, then claim the Elden ring bosses are harder than they really are
Demon's Souls has my second favorite collection of bosses (just after Bloodborne) in the franchise. No game in the franchise has as much variety in bosses. Every boss is a puzzle that greatly rewards knowledge and experience above everything else. And each boss is harder for different play styles. The dark Souls and Elden ring collection of bosses can feel so same-y at times. Challenging, but boring. And when it comes to video game boss design, I prefer knowledge over reflexes. Where prep time is more important than invulnerability frames.
I love Demon’s Souls bosses not for their difficulty or fun factor, but for the atmosphere and how they feel like an event experience, something lost on recent FromSoft games. The only Elden Ring boss that made me go “wow this boss is cool” was Radahn(I haven’t seen or played the DLC though). The entrances of Tower Knight, Penetrator, Flamelurker, and Fool’s Idol are so memorable. It also helps that the bosses make so much sense for their environment that you can tell they are the boss of the area. For Elden Ring, you could shift the bosses randomly around and it honestly wouldn’t make much of a difference.
I missed you! I respected your opinion on ER and the DLC. I mostly did disagree but hey, that’s why we all have our opinions and taste. Can’t wait for your new rankings!
What I love about Demon's Souls bosses, compared to the other souls series, they all feel like puzzles for the most part. And the feeling of cracking that puzzle is soooo good all these years later.
Oje thing I think would be a super interesting vid would be ranking areas in souls games from easiest to hardest. I know you've done quality rankings for areas in the past, but debating their difficulty would yield some interesting discussions, as I believe that the challenge of areas in the series was a core component that was sadly pushed to the wayside in later entries.
I also don't think ppl were mad that DMod gave opinions on the Elden Ring DLC video, I'm curious if ppl were upset for the same reason I was, this was my gaming video sanctuary away from all the negativity of the gaming community on TH-cam. I played Demon’s Souls for the first time a few months ago (ironically it was the last Souls game I played.) In hindsight, Dragon God makes so much sense as a stealth boss. But no, I was convinced it was Ceaseless Discharge 1.0 It took a lot of patience, but I learned to dodge through the punches every time they happened. Honestly, it was a really gratifying experience.
I appreciate you DeMod, I have been with you since Souls 2, always look forward to new content 🙏🏻 I’m looking forward to this series :) Shout out to Denver, we have that CRUNK for sure 🔥
I think my best memories of demon souls bosses that scared me were flamelurker, king aliant, the dark world tendency npcs. and finally trying to beat old king doran legitamatly. that guy was an optional boss/fight done right i love his lore and just overall presence.
demon souls had probably the most unique first playthrough for me, I know a lot of people aren’t crazy about the remake but i absolutely love it….gonna have to do a playthrough now after watching this lol
To be honest it’s kind of fascinating to compare the average Demons Souls boss with the average Elden ring boss. There was an alternate universe where from soft became known for their puzzle bosses and the cryptic means of defeating them, rather than the intricate wiring and brutal skills checks of their current bosses
Fifteen years since I became obsessed with fromsoft games😳 crazy how far the games have evolved since Demon's *shoutout to the OG greataxe, man of culture **Old Hero is still my favorite boss in all the from games. The feeling i got when i first encountered him was just otherworldly and he seemed like a tragic figure. Such a cool boss ***16:56 in the original game you could snipe Allant with a bow without causing him to start aggro, when you first enter the fog gate from the elevator as long as you don't take a step forward he won't aggro. From there you can shoot arrows (aiming carefully and using the white soul cloud he emits as a guide to where he's standing) and kill him if you have a strong enough bow & arrow combo. There were a lot of cheese strategies for bosses and enemies in the ps3 version and before some of them got patched, I'm really lucky to have been one of the relatively few who played demon's souls upon release and it was the coolest game I had ever played at that point. Still holds a place in my heart as one of the greatest gaming experiences I'd had🙏
Neat. But with sincerity I do hope that this will be the final boss rankings for a while. I do really enjoy your essays and speedruns quite a bit more than just the standard rankings.
Played this game 2 months ago for the first time...and it's one the most addictive Souls games I've played regardless of how dated it is. Yes, for the PS3, and I love it. Hardest bosses for me were the Penetrator and King Allant, only because I don't do too well against reasonably fast bosses. Flame Lurker was easy with the flame negation ring and shield.
One thing you have to give to Dragon God: His design is cool as hell, and the implication that Big M went from fisting guy nr 1 to Dragon Fister is pretty neat.
Love the video, I liked it just as with all your videos. Quick grammar point: judicator is pronounced 'jew-dee-kay-tor'. Looking forward to the next video.
Thief Ring plus magic spells can trivialize Dragon God, and where he is looking does seem to matter. In part 2 he can wince in pain expanding your opening
There's a weird balance between difficulty and it feeling fair that seems to be getting harder to achieve on these games. I'd rather fight O&S than the Godskin Duo even of it's significantly easier, u could argue it's because ds1 is older i've fought them more but that was a choice i made because i was having fun meanwhile the godskin duo just feels like a chore after they " force " u to fight them multiple times on the same playthrough, so i just either leave up to an rng win or summon and brease through and neither option is satisfactory leaving your only other option being to put in the extra time in a already bloated game 😔
Great video! I know you had your issues with FFVII Rebirth but I'd love to see a ranking of bosses and companions as I found there could be a lot of depth to the companions and combat if you put the work in.
I've just played through world 2 in original Demon Souls on PS2 and to my surprise, the difficulty of bosses was somehow backwards. The Armored Spider was the hardest one. The Firelurker was hard, but I beat him on first try somehow, and the dragon god though took me two attempts, before I realized what I need to do, was surprisingly easy.
While I'm looking forward to your personal rankings, I would really love if you did a community quality boss ranking for each game. If you remember, we didn't really have that in the past until Sekiro and Elden Ring. Combining that with the fact that time and experience can change opinions and perspectives, it would be really cool to see how they've all stacked up in the view of the community. Hell, maybe cut out the middle man and just do one huge community ranking of all the Soulsborne bosses in one go. Like, numbered votes plus maybe 10 favorites for extra points like in the past. No worst because minus points are cringe, imo. Also, for ER, PLEASE include the trophy/achievement bosses (plus Golden Hippo and Leda in the DLC).
Fair play. Die to him more then any of the others. Hate to admit im one of the lucky few to finally get him down, just to get roasted by his breath and die before getting the kill. Easily one of my most embarrassing souls death. Glad the king has finally returned by the way, so hyped for the rest of these videos. Still waiting on the Wukong rankings too. Cheers!
For me, my first time playing (Day 1 PS3 preorder), I saw the message about how to parry and that quickly became the game for me. The problem with that is that the bosses are 90% gimmick and the gimmicks are far too easy to abuse so the game spent most of it's time as boring, and occasionally you find something like the mindflayer things that if they catch you once, you're stunned long enough to guarantee your demise, forcing you to start the whole level over again because you made one small mistake that's likely to keep happening because it's all about timing rather than planning or being prepared. Other than Dragon God, still just as bad as all the "way too easy" gimmick bosses, but is instead on the "too easy to fuck it up" side of gimmicks. Even to this day, having watched many videos on him and everything, I watch for when he's not looking before emerging from cover to attack the barriers and even with a weapon that can one or two shot them he knows I'm there and one shots me before I can move on and getting past each and every barrier feels like luck. I'm glad so many people gravitated to it, since we got Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3, and Bloodborne and Sekiro, but I'll never understand why so many people felt like this game wasn't terrible.
The hardest thing about Demon's Soul is not the bosses, but the levels themselves. The run backs, tight corridor's, ect are probably harder than the majority of levels in other fromsoft gsmes.
to the roots it is! Great! Good to see ya back on the up and up! Different content is absoutely fine! and no issue with your opinion on things. That is and should be a given, but even i, someone who has not your level of skill, can find good quality in fromsofts newest of ventures and even i find some of them bullshit, a good portion of em to be honest.

I think it’s really telling of Demons’ Souls’s overall difficulty that my SL1 run also just so happened to be my first deathless run of the game
honestly demons souls difficulty spike in ng+ is the hardest boss
demon souls had probably the most unique first playthrough for me, I know a lot of people aren’t crazy about the remake but i absolutely love it….gonna have to do a playthrough now after watching this lol
To be honest it’s kind of fascinating to compare the average Demons Souls boss with the average Elden ring boss.
There was an alternate universe where from soft became known for their puzzle bosses and the cryptic means of defeating them, rather than the intricate wiring and brutal skills checks of their current bosses
Cool editing. Felt like old times.
Didn’t realize we needed this!
Fifteen years since I became obsessed with fromsoft games😳 crazy how far the games have evolved since Demon's
*shoutout to the OG greataxe, man of culture
**Old Hero is still my favorite boss in all the from games. The feeling i got when i first encountered him was just otherworldly and he seemed like a tragic figure. Such a cool boss
***16:56 in the original game you could snipe Allant with a bow without causing him to start aggro, when you first enter the fog gate from the elevator as long as you don't take a step forward he won't aggro.
We need an updated version of the boss quality ranking now for all the games
when i saw the notification, I was surprised he hadn't done this already
Demon souls player when they get graced once: eat 15 pieces of grass
So what im hearing is that there's going to be like a 3 hour long boss ranking video in the future?! Count me in!!!
One thing you have to give to Dragon God: His design is cool as hell, and the implication that Big M went from fisting guy nr 1 to Dragon Fister is pretty neat.
Boss rankings are BACK
Im hyped for this series bro
Love the video, I liked it just as with all your videos. Quick grammar point: judicator is pronounced 'jew-dee-kay-tor'.
Looking forward to the next video.
Love you demod! Keep up the vids you are the 🐐
He has returned to us, at the turning of the tide!
WELCOME BACK DEMOD🎉🎉🎉
I've just played through world 2 in original Demon Souls on PS2 and to my surprise, the difficulty of bosses was somehow backwards. The Armored Spider was the hardest one. The Firelurker was hard, but I beat him on first try somehow, and the dragon god though took me two attempts, before I realized what I need to do, was surprisingly easy.
WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK
While I'm looking forward to your personal rankings, I would really love if you did a community quality boss ranking for each game.
DeMod: *Ranks Demon's Souls Bosses from Easiest to Hardest*
True King Allant: Ah, shit. Here we go again.
HONEY STOP TRYING TO GET FRISKY WITH ME, NEW DMOD JUST DROPPED
Taking a shot every time Demod says grass, will update you at the end of the vid
to the roots it is! Great! Good to see ya back on the up and up! Different content is absoutely fine! and no issue with your opinion on things. That is and should be a given, but even i, someone who has not your level of skill, can find good quality in fromsofts newest of ventures and even i find some of them bullshit, a good portion of em to be honest.
i’m glad i’m not the only souls vet who struggled really hard on dragon god 😭
I never would have thought about it, but Dragon God at number 1 is honestly a very obvious choice
