  • Abhi takes our Bike of the Day, a 1994 Yamaha TZM50R for a spin!
While the YSR50 has become relatively commonplace here in the United States, its successor - the TZM50R - is a far-sight rarer. Yamaha released the bike in an effort to rival Honda’s highly successful NSR50.

I was lucky to have a 1986 ysr50 when I was 16. It had a pipe and maxed out at 53mph and it was a fun 53mph

Soooooo awesome. Loved my YSR as a young fella...The trouble I got into on my air-cooled would have been leveled up by these upgrades for sure!

I bought a first year ysr50 when they came out in 1987, $903.00 out the door. I found that the air-cooled yz80 fit in the mounts and lighting coil bolted right on. I wonder if a liquid cooled yz80/85 engine would be swapable? I actually commuted about 10 miles to work and enjoyed people’s expressions at traffic lights.

Are these artificially speed limited? I know 50cc bikes are legally limited to 30km/h in Japan, but not sure if there's an actual limiter on the bike itself.

This specific bike does not have a speed limiter but I can't speak to the TZM50R in general as I don't know, sorry.

Too bad Commifornia won't let it across it's border.

I'm not sure I follow - this can be bought by someone in any state, California doesn't care where it goes. Some states will give it a license plate, some won't.

@@IconicMotorbikes It was meant to be a sarcastic comment. Your statement is true. We in CA could purchase but only as track bike or a show piece. We will never be able to license plate a gray market 2T or 4T, which is a shame.
