    Really excellent how to! Thanks for taking the time to post this! And a quick tip > You can insert the metal clips into the rollers before you clip the regulator ball into the rollers, makes things a LOT easier. And also make sure to repair any tears in the vapor barrier or loose fitting sealant/ adhesive as the side airbag sensor triggers deployment by rapid increase of air volume pressure, not G-forces. Any major leaks in the vapor barrier could delay side airbag deployment. *Thumbs up!*

    You don't even have to take the metal clips out of the plastic rollers when installing. You can leave them in and when you push the ball into the roller the clip will open enough and then close itself on the back of the ball saving a bit of a headache.

    Very good video. You might want to emphasize the importance of getting the window in the channels and note that if this is not done before attaching it to the regulator, the window will not slide properly and will have to be disassembled again and positioned in the channels.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! My passenger window went a few months back, but I got it to at least stay up. Now my drivers side rear window did the same thing and unfortunately I cannot get it to stay up. I was going to purchase a entire regulator set when I really didn't need to. Thanks for the great video and it's going to save me a lot of money that I did not need to spend.

    great video - just used it to fix my broken rollers. Thanks for all the advice. One word of warning - don't use parcel tape on the black section of the window frame on the outside of the door to secure the broken window in place as it discolours the trim when the tape is removed.

    This was an excellent video description. Luckily I had to do the passenger side, less to disconnect, but since you described the driver side with the trunk and gas connector I'll be ready for that side if need be. Bravo for your knowledge and the simplistic way you explained it. I wish I had seen your vid before I took off sound barrier.BTW, Saab sells rollers $8.19each in my local Delaware dealership.Thanks again.

    Thanks for the vid! Just watched Eric the car guy's vid, and then this as an insurance policiy, and went at it onmy 9-5. All fixed up. Easy? No. But hard? No. not with these vids for a guide. I cant stress this enough though: Make sure your window gets fully back on the weatherstripping! Mine, while putting the glass in, shoved the rubber track at th e back side of the glass out of its channel. When i rolled the window down it bunched all that rubber up inside the door. had to take the rollers etc back off, remove glass, and fix all that rubber. Then carefully inserted the glass again, making sure it seated right. After that it was gravy.

    I have just done this job, and it was exactly as you described.
    The only thing I would say is that you need to be aware of the warning on the vapour barrier about the side air bag sensor.
    In view of this, it may be best to disconnect the battery, but if you do you can't move the window mech to line up the scissor action and glass runners.
    I took a chance and didn't disconnect it, and I have lived to tell the tale...but be careful.

    Thanks for the repair video. My Passenger side Window fell off the tracks. I think the rubber track guides also have also fallen out as the Window has always rattled badly unless it's fully up. I will tear off the Door Panel if is ever stops raining. Thank you!
    PS, our 2002 SAAB 9-5 has 180K Town Miles. Most trips are under 10 miles which is horrible on the engine yet it runs great and doesn't burn a drop of oil. Mine has the 3.0 Vauxhall 54 degree V6.

    Thank you for posting the Saab window regulator repair. Mine just broke this morning. It wasn't frozen, it appeared the vertical seal at the rear of the glass folded into the channel, causing resistance. Anyone else had this? It's a pain!

    • @andrewgreenwell4089
      @andrewgreenwell4089 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah that could be what happened to my window. I already replaced the regulators, but my window only goes halfway down before it starts to pitch forward. So I stop.

    • @bobble4293
      @bobble4293 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Greenwell Hi, since my earlier posting, I've realised that, if all's well, the window travels vertically up and down, never leaving the vertical channel, and that a broken or worn roller or rollers allowed the window to tip forwards, eventually getting to the point where, the glass failing to re-enter the seal channel on its way up, resistance to movement was enough to cause the worn rollers to fail catastrophically, bending one of the lower regulator arms and allowing the glass to drop into the door. There are THREE rollers in total (cost me £11, including post from Neo Bros)
      They have NEW regulator mechanisms for £35 inc post, too.
      Saab windows don't have "one touch", or the ability to sense abnormal resistance. My Passat windows, with "one touch" would roll back down if they encountered the sort of resistance that caused the damage to my Saab regulator assembly.
      it is possible to adjust the regulator upper roller channels to ensure the window moves vertically (my next job on a dry day)

    Hi!
    Got a 9-5 MY06, on the "softplastic" barrier it says something like disconnect the airbag sensor. How do I do that ? Don't want to get the airbag in my face.....
    Another thing, the "glue" does'nt seem to be reuseable on my car, where do I get new "glue" ?

    • @Garryuana
      @Garryuana 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      They all say something along the lines of "airbag sensor in door, see manual before repair"... With replacing the rollers and doing the window repair you don't need to concern yourself with this. Just follow the instructions in the video and you'll be fine. Don't go messing around with the airbag sensors!

    Hi, this is an old video but I have a current problem. My window seems to be off track on the driver's side, and I have it close now. It made a cracking sound, but did not break. I am wondering how I know if I need a new roller versus an entire regulator?

    • @Tryst46
      @Tryst46 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jennifer Zaccara The regulator is fine so long as you can hear the motor running. If you can push the window control up and stop as soon as you see the window move slightly, you can ensure the window is locked in the up position for now. It also tells you the regulator is working properly.
      These rollers break all too easily and are, 99.9% of the time, the main culprit for the window not working. If you intend on keeping the car for any length of time, I would buy a few to make sure you have spares for next time, they are getting hard to find. I have only just done mine with the last of my spares and the whole job took about 10 minutes.

    Is this the same procedure on a 2003 Volvo S80? Both my driver and passenger side window will not go up or down at all or without coming out of track completely and falling. Both are laminated windows and now have cracks in them. Driver side is cracked on interior piece of glass, and front passenger door is crack on exterior piece of glass. I've been told you can avoid the difficulty of positioning the clips on the rollers after the window is positioned by leaving the clips on the rollers while the window is still out. The explanation was that the spindle on the regulator will snapp past the clip just as it does the roller with pressure. Have you tried this? Does anyone else know if it works?

    No mention of lube although the original guides and rollers in our '99 9-3 had evidence of lube. So question is dry or lubed? and what lube - lithium grease or ??

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's a good idea to apply lithium grease to the guides and rollers to help prevent binding.

    • @Qctep
      @Qctep 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No grease! It only causes problems. I can say this with some authority because I have done this procedure several times. Once to a car that absolutely would not stop popping the rollers off because someone had greased it. It only behaved after I took out till the rubber and thoroughly cleaned it. Silicone lubricant - a "dry lubricant" was the final solution. I have also seen doors where the lower channel rubber had been removed by an incompetent mechanic who applied grade and could not keep the rollers from popping off. No Grease! Dry Lube Only!

      I just replaced the rollers on a the driver's door of a 2002 9-3 and had the same response. The ball joint toward the rear of the door pops out of the roller when the widow is almost all the way down.
      Does that mean the regulator arms are bent? The motor works fine.
      It looks like the original problem was a blue plastic cover broke and interfered with the widow, which broke the rollers. I yanked out the cover, but don't know what's under there.
      Hopefully, I didn't create a new problem. Any insight?

    • @thingserik7269
      @thingserik7269 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This happened to me and I had to bend both sides to keep the ball in the rollers. It appears that the channels where the rollers glide were causing resistence from dirt or bent from using a channel locks to pop the arm into the roller. I managed to get the window up with 2 broken rollers. I only lower that window an inch just in case it wants to pop out. I found watching multiple videos on this subject will help you confront different scenerios

    I have a 2000 93 with the same issue, does it have the same or similar regular set up as the 95?

      I believe the two designs are different between the models unfortunately.

      @@fcpeuro Hi there. The two designs do seem to be different. I'm into the innards of the front left door of my 2003 9-3, and it looks like the rollers I've purchased are no good to me. Your video description does include the 9-3 and probably shouldn't. I see your detailed application list does only include the 9-5 from Saab though. Doh!
      I jumped too soon then, but it would appear that the rollers are not that easy to come by in the UK, so I guess I can resell without too much trouble. Still don't know why my window has developed a 'clunk' in operation. Regards....

    I'm having trouble disconnecting the harness for the mirror control -- I don't want to force anything, and It's not clear what has to be pulled up.

      Hello Lois, there should be a release in the middle of the connector that will need to be pushed in. You can also use a flat head screw driver to gently separate the connector.

    My window was getting wonky about a year ago and simply stopped using it lol, I even ordered the new rollers when they first started getting loose years ago.. Just put them in now and it was definitely much easier than i thought LOL. Did both front doors in my 9-5 in under an hour just dickin' around. I found its easier to use a razor blade to cut through the sticky stuff, and it's more of a glob than double sided sticky tape so it will restick. But i used a little bit of quality duct tape anyway.
    Had a Volvo S60 with over 200K miles, great car.. nothing ever broke, car was crashed and figured a Saab would be good :-/ Love the car, but WTF lol. Otherwise love the car ;-)

    It's all too common for them to break. If someone would make a metal roller that won't snap after 6 months, they would make a fortune in sales.
    It's also a PITA trying to get hold of these rollers now in the UK.
