The first video I watched on how to replace the jalousie, I was like ok, not doing that. After watching this, I will definitely be doing it. Thanks for the video😊
Thanks for this - I had the replacement jalousie for 2 years and finally saw your video with this hack. Have wanted it installed, but wasn’t willing to spend $$$ have my trusted mechanic deal with it. As a female Saab owner for nearly 40 years (I’m on my 5th one, my 2nd beloved 9-5 wagon), I was inspired by your video and just completed the jalousie replacement myself for the minimal cost of the part. It took a tad more than 10 minutes, but easy-peasy and well worth it! Many thanks!!!
NOTE! for anyone with I believe an 04 and above, the sport mode wires are socketed and easily removal making the job easy the normal way. Just remove the screw and separate the half's. Early cars are a pita since they are soldered, thats where the pita reputation comes from
I watched that video where the guy cut that whole side off. I tried the same trick as you, just slicing the right side, and it's worked fine for over a year. Good job!!
Thank you. I've had the dreaded gap for best part of a year after the jalousie perished but seeing your video inspired me to order a new one and fit it. Took me about 15 minutes and inside is back to its previous pristine self. I'll be checking out your other videos now. 👍
Just did this and worked great. Only issue I had was the prndl-illumination not workikg afterwards, but that was easily resolved by pushing down on the bulb that illuminates it.
I have just change "jalousie" with your video. Absoultely fantastic and easy method. The biggest problems I had with removing the ring cover and the prindl cover, but still difficulty 1/10. Cheers!
Nice vid! I used to snip them like you did, but honestly tearing apart the shifter isn't too hard so thats the only way I do them now. Glad someone did a full explanation of the shortcut!! Also last I looked, those green straps were NLA, but if that's since changed or if you can find one, it's a good time to check & replace that too if it's worn.
Thanks for the video Man - really helped me understand how to replace the part! Have you ever had to replace the gear position bulb that's down there??
A very helpful video. Thank you very much. I have the near identical 9-5 2005 that had the same problem with jalousie disintegrating within a month after I bought the car.back in 2011. I just completed my repair following your video and the new jalousie looks and works great!
I made a little improvement to this by cutting through the round tab that pulls the jalousie back and forth. By doing that, the split is held together by the gearshifter slot and you cannot see the cut when it is all assembled again.
After watching this two days ago.... i ordered the Jalousie (£30..ouch.!) it came this morning and now fitted, eazy peazy..! And while i am on here, i upgraded the diverter valve to a nice shiny metal one, and changed the boost control solenoid... and now i have to keep clearing the P1110 code every now and again, What did i do wrong, and how can i stop this popping up again...? any ideas, cheers Andy UK.
Could you pls share the link for where you got the part? I need one for my 9-5 I’m so glad I know how to fix it now cuz the mechanic quoted me $135 to get it replaced!!
For some reason my saab 9-3 surges and wants to stall at a light after it's been driven .I'm just wondering if you know what to do about this. there a few others on the internet who have reported the symptom otherwise the car runs perfectly .
Hi all, so once the Jalousie is slipped around shifter, why not stop and super glue the cut back together, ad ten minutes to have a more secure Jalousie that won't catch, the hack is great but always room for improvement, thanks for all your time making these vids. 🔧
You can, but i think it would be very difficult to get it to sit right without getting glue anywhere else or making too large of a glue mark so the jalousie won’t slide freely 🤔This’ll still hold for years with this method!
@@AutoAutopsy again thanks for your work producing help vids :) just about to have a Jalousie put on that a young kid is 3D printing here, but not charging battery atm takes priority, my Toyota mechanic was not paying attention to WIS and found taking the brake master cylinder off made it possible to pull the alternator striate up without having to take Exhaust pipe off. :) so good and bad, had my 99 four doors stolen years ago, never got it back, good/bad friends grandfather passed away leaving a mint 9-5 2003 AERO and here in South Australia there are so many SAAB fans that are ready to help :) also GM and SAAB tried fitting one of our Holdens built here and there are six floating around with experimental SAAB motors and trying different orientations but nothing happened, would be cool to find at least one of them. rant over

@@AutoAutopsy I just watched your video and I can't believe I didn't see it before. Sorry about that and thanks for commiting back to me. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Doing this shortcut will cause the jalousie to break prematurely again. Because it's under constant use and cutting it will cause a "weak spot" where eventually it'll start to bend and it basically won't last. Tried it myself and with a friend, would not recommend.
Hmmm I'd say not to make the cut, at least in a hot place like Australia, you'll be replacing it again in a few weeks after it's heat cycled - if your going to do the cut make sure you glue it, as it sags and gets bound up in the shifter mechanism.... You then have another broken jalouise strip I can't speak for cooler places but definitely is a temporary fix in Australia. The jalouise covers from rockauto the uro branded ones landed here are ~ $30usd so for me not worth saving 10 minutes to then have to redo it a few weeks later under warranty for a customer...
Yeah not the same as Australian high uv and heat, last summer was 53oC (128F) as I say can't comment to where you live but will say I've done it to 3 cars all failed in less than a month so won't do it again. That's what I did a few months ago; cut a slit on one side. Folks, for the rubber covered trim, be careful NOT to pull the rubber off of its plastic base. Like he did, pry on the plastic part - not the rubber like I did.
