A friend asked me why I always looked so nice and pulled together when I was just staying home. I was just wearing a black pair of casual pants and a matching sweater. My hair was tidy and a had a light touch of make up and fragrance. It probably took as much time as pulling on track pants and sweat shirt and a pair of Crocs. I was raised to always dressed nicely. After all you never know who you might run into...or open the door to 🌹

I dry and style my hair 3 times a week since a couple of months ago and it has made a huge difference on my self perception. I feel put together. I also have a hand cream on my desk to make sure my hands are nourished throughout the day. I loved all your tips. My dad taught me the less is the better and I also feel at peace if my space is minimalistic. Loved this video. Thank you ❤
Can relate greatly… Outfit sort of impacts the mood greatly. Back in uni I use to secretly put on my gown in dorm when feeling less motivated to work. It looked a bit odd but thankfully I had a single ensuite.
The elegant element of how to look polished even at home that is dressing well, even at home, and smelling fresh and nice is a nice way to feel clean and good to yourself. Thank you for sharing this Jamila, it helps me to look more refreshed, and to romanticize being at home. It makes a big difference in how I often look at home. It helps me, thank you so much!
These tips are so helpful, especially the one about the shoes! I usually see Korean women in K-Dramas/K-Movies wear the most lovely block heeled shoes and they look sooo elegant in them.
Agreed, but also, too- if you look at American women in the 50’s, (and the same women who were alive then and still alive), there is such a drastic difference with what is acceptable to look like/what is the acceptable bare minimum to uphold. Women in the 1950s always wore makeup and heels, even at home. I see elderly women in the grocery stores sometimes and they bring shame to me! They are so much more put together than I am. There is so much attention to detail and purposeful living.
Mam I'm tremendously honoured to have you as a teacher. I started my journey with you when I was 14 and now I'm 16. Your TH-cam channel is a Blessing for me from ALLAH Almighty. I used to suffer a lot in finding etiquette vedios but your online palteform is something I used to crave desperately. Wow! It’s rare to see someone so young take such pride in themselves and be so self aware, especially in this era of social media. Young lady I wish you all the best. You are heading in the right direction❤
I very much agree with having fresh hair. I came to this realisation that I feel my most confident about my physical appearance when I have freshly washed and nice smelling hair, even when I am not going out. It also prevents breakouts! Also, the Indian summers call for oversized cotton T-shirts. But I buy them in the same color family with matching shorts to look put together. Thank you for this video Jamila. Much love ♥
I'd love to see a video about your garderobe, lookbooks of everyday outfits etc :D How to build a garderobe that is elegant and put together, how to choose and match different pieces of clothing :)
Thank you for taking time to help us to look our best whenever we might be, I love it. I would like to respectfuly request a video where you talk about that amazing woman who is related to your dad, I know that you are discreet and private about your family and loved ones, but would be nice to see something dedicated to her. Every time you mention her I can see reflected on your face how much admiration and respect you feel about her♥
I love having nice dinnerware! My favourite brands are Burleigh, Royal Albert, and soon I will look at Gien. I live in England and even very old dinnerware can be very affordable, on bargain antique shows you can find a beautiful 100+ year old cup and saucer for under £10.
Would you please make a video about dinnerware? What are must-haves and essentials, what shapes and patterns are timeless and elegant, or maybe showing some of your own collection as well!💗💗
Hi Jamila! I really appreciate your personality and your thinking. I hope that someday you will make a video about your updated, clean makeup collection and I’m courious about how you organize your clothes. Have a wonderfull day! 🌸
Thank you so much for reaffirming some things that I already do.... Fresh Flowers are so important for me, living in the North Hemisphere you don't always have them in your garden. My mum (like Jamila's auntie) always looked so nice, she always told me. "Be presentable always, you never know who you're going to meet". Whenever I don't put make up or wear nice clothes is when I see people..ha! Looking nice, make you feel nice... We don't need much, we're beautiful... We just need to enhance that...😉 Thanks Jami for always reminding good things ...🪻
Thank you Jamila. I’ve always admired your background! It is clean and crisp with no Knick knacks and that really gives me clarity to focus on your content solely so that I can truly benefit from the knowledge you are imparting . I can now see how your accomplishments are directly linked to the same clarity you have in life to go after self improvement & fine tuning the ‘self’ to elevate to a greater, more refined standard of living ❤
Thank you as always, Jamila. The most intriguing thing that you mentioned that how minimalist you are. I should have known from your videos. But it’s cool to think that they are not staged, but that is how you generally live. for a second I put myself in your shoes and felt that sense of focus and purpose that does not come from things but internally. not a bad way to live
Lovely. Very practical tips. I can say I follow the following: smell nice, indoor plants, organizing my surroundings (less of more for me as well Jamila) and yes I love my crokery too (my husband never understand my need to have an elegant pair of cup & saucer but he let me buy it anyway😄) After listening to this I am sure today onwards am going to put in more effort into the way I dress up even if I have to stay indoors. I have observed myself to being more interested in monochrome looks these days so will invest in those now. My mom has inspired me always and I learned from her all the above that I practice already. She still keeps reminding me to dress up nicely everyday😊
recommendation for at home makeup; invest in a BB cream. it’s a tinted moisturizer you can apply right after skincare to give more of a flawless yet natural base and then you can add other simple stuff like blush and eyeliner ❤
I really liked the video! I would be happy if you put links to different home clothes that you recommend as well as light summer dresses for those who want to look elegant.
I took only one time of jamila not wearing her typical casual sophisticated style and all of a sudden ''youtube etiquette critic's '' immediately jump and label her as not elegant.
It's about how things make you feel. Think about the feeling of Living in a classy hotel but with the comfortable feeling of home. The terms state the difference - Night wear & Day wear. Instead of wearing something shabby, ill- fitted, ill - matched.. wearing something proper, pretty, elegant yet comfortable (even at home) would make one feel good automatically. Best trick - 1. Replace all the shabby things - you won't have it, you won't use it. 2. Dressing up at home as if you might just step out and keeping the house as if someone might just drop in.😂 It's funny but it works.
She is so right. I made a big mistake by wearing loose clothings at home, as you guess it, it’s more comfortable. But I could have been more mindful if I wore fitting clothes.
Excellent tips. I am inspired to implement them in my life -- as I work from home, and rarely go out. Can you do a video on elegant travel/airport outfits? Airport presentation?
I agree with you for the most part but for me, it will be not cozy and comfy to wear gym clothes and sneakers around the house. But again it’s just me and I understand it defers from person to person. You look gorgeous in all those outfits. 💕

Im surprised that she refers to what she’s wearing elegant home wear because she looks likes she’s going to the gym. I thought she was going to show some nice, casual and comfortable clothes to wear at home, not sportswear.
i think each person interprets elegant differently, she does look elegant, poised, and put together. you just believe elegance is separate from sports and any clothes associated with sports: which is false. athletes are some of the most elegant people, it takes so much effort to make hard tasks appear easy: it’s a skilled elegance.
Elegance is a mindset. I can look elegant in anything I wear. Breaking stereotypes about elegance is what I intend to do. Wearing a silk robe would be stating the obvious and very cliche but I do wear robes too.
Guess I'll never look elegant at home in autumn and winter...heating systems leave much to be desired where I live, and that results in me having to bundle up in dozens of thermal layers and add at least one bulky fleece on top. Which basically makes me look like a tiny, grumpy Yeti 😅
I know you are probably curious, but I would think it is not good etiquette to ask someone's weight. I believe she mentioned in previous videos that she is 5'2. 😊
Hi there! While I appreciate your content and your worldly perspective, I must say that after seeing a few of your videos now that mentioned keeping one's figure as a woman, I find this idea very passe and frankly a little offensive. I have never been a keyboard warrior and by no means is this intended to hurt or take you down at all (I think you offer lots of wonderful information to the world!), but rather in hopes of sharing an alternative perspective that this kind of language could be harmful to other women out there. After working in the nonprofit sector, I learned a great deal about loaded language, such as this, and wanted to share my thoughts. Appreciate all that you do.
Thank you for the lovely video. There are some nice points there. I must say that I personally don't find leggings and cropped tops elegant. I don't like wearing them at home or anywhere else. Seeing a lady wearing something tight like that screams for attention and for me it is considered disgusting rather that elegant. Sorry for being honest.
I do not believe in wearing shoes in the house, or even having shoes specifically for the house. The home is to be comfortable in. I do not know a soul who actually wears real shoes in the house as it's neither comfortable or practical, and to be honest it's kind of ridiculous. Thats taking elegance to an unnecessary level. My casual home clothes are nice, comfortable, and easy to move in, but shoes make no sense in the home ensemble.
I'd say that it comes with a person's culture as well. I'm from Colombia and we're hardly ever shoeless. It doesn't matter if it's inside the house, you'd at least wear slippers. When coming to the East side of the world I had to adapt to take off my shoes. I might say majority of Latin Americans follow the same. Regards. 😊
@@dahiannat agreed, it can certainly be cultural. Also of note, it is not healthy for feet to be confined & compressed 18hrs a day. Sleeping barefoot is not enough for foot health.
